Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/345494 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Little Faith: A Novel Author: Nickolas Butler Narrator: Danny Campbell Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 8 hours 23 minutes Release date: March 5, 2019 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 4 of Total 1 Genres: World Religions Publisher's Summary: In this moving new novel from celebrated author Nickolas Butler, a Wisconsin family grapples with the power and limitations of faith when one of their own falls under the influence of a radical church. Lyle Hovde is at the onset of his golden years, living a mostly content life in rural Wisconsin with his wife, Peg, daughter, Shiloh, and six-year old grandson, Isaac. After a troubled adolescence and subsequent estrangement from her parents, Shiloh has finally come home. But while Lyle is thrilled to have his whole family reunited, he’s also uneasy: in Shiloh’s absence, she has become deeply involved with an extremist church, and the devout pastor courting her is convinced Isaac has the spiritual ability to heal the sick. While reckoning with his own faith—or lack thereof—Lyle soon finds himself torn between his unease about the church and his desire to keep his daughter and grandson in his life. But when the church’s radical belief system threatens Isaac’s safety, Lyle is forced to make a decision from which the family may not recover. Set over the course of one year and beautifully evoking the change of seasons, Little Faith is a powerful and deeply affecting intergenerational novel about family and community, the ways in which belief is both formed and shaken, and the lengths we go to protect our own.

The Way of Abundance: A 60-Day Journey into a Deeply Meaningful Life by Ann Voskamp

mardi 3 avril 2018Duration 07:37:00

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/329650 to listen full audiobooks. Title: The Way of Abundance: A 60-Day Journey into a Deeply Meaningful Life Author: Ann Voskamp Narrator: Ann Voskamp Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 7 hours 37 minutes Release date: April 3, 2018 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 5 of Total 3 Genres: World Religions Publisher's Summary: What do you do when you wake up and feel like you're not enough for your life? Or when you look out the kitchen window as dusk falls and wonder how do you live when life keeps breaking your heart?  As Ann Voskamp writes, “great grief isn't meant to fit inside your body. It's why your heart breaks.” And each of us holds enough brokenness to overflow—to be given as the greatest story of our lives. In sixty vulnerably soulful stories, The Way of Abundance moves from self-weary brokenness to Christ-focused givenness. Drawing from the critically acclaimed, New York Times bestseller The Broken Way and Ann's online essays, this devotional dares us to embrace brokenness as a gift that moves us to givenness as a way to draw closer to the heart of God. Christ Himself broke like bread, giving Himself to us so we might have a lifelong communion with Him. Could it be that our brokenness is also a gift to the world? This gentle but exquisitely profound book does nothing less than take you on an intimate journey of the soul. As Ann writes, 'The wound in His side proves that Jesus is always on the side of the suffering, the wounded, the busted, the broken.' Discover how surrendering in unexpected ways is the first step toward receiving what you long for. Discover the good news that your beauty is not in your strength but in your fragility. Discover why your healing shines radiant through your wounds—and how only in brokenness will you ever be whole—and find the way to the abundance you were meant for.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam: The Monotheists by Frank Peters

vendredi 12 septembre 2008Duration 08:00:00

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/329600 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Judaism, Christianity and Islam: The Monotheists Author: Frank Peters Narrator: Frank Peters Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 8 hours 0 minutes Release date: September 12, 2008 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 3 of Total 2 Genres: World Religions Publisher's Summary: In everything that follows, 'Bible' always means the Hebrew or Jewish Bible. The Christian Scriptures will always be called 'New Testament' or 'Gospels.' Judaism, Christianity and Islam should be thought of as three faith communities rather than as three 'religions.' They are communities of believers, each with its own ideology, history (its ideology is often embedded in its history), its traditions, and, of course, its members, the great number of Jews, Christians and Muslims past and present. We cannot take much account of the members here, but they are the ones who are responsible for a good part of the ideology, history, and traditions. A distinction is sometimes made between history and sacred history. For all three groups, God is always somehow in charge of what happens to humans, but when God is thought to be more or less directly in charge, that is sacred history. The Bible, for example, is sacred history; what happened to the Jews afterwards is just plain history, where God appears to be (closely) observing events rather than directing them. But not in everyone's eyes: there are still any number of Jews, Christians and Muslims who regard whatever happens, or will happen, as God's doing, not man's. If the Arabic term is a little unfamiliar, 'Islam' means 'submission' (to God, of course), and a 'Muslim' is 'one who has submitted.' The words are Arabic but not all Muslims are Arabs by a long shot, and great many Turks and Iranians and millions and millions of Indians and Indonesians will be upset if you insist that they are. Nor are all Arabs Muslims. Many Palestinian Arabs are Christians, for example. Christians too can be anything ethnic under the sun, and what the Jews are will emerge throughout this course. Finally, it's easier to study these communities if the student attempts to maintain objectivity about each of the 'others.'

Standing at the Edge: Finding Freedom Where Fear and Courage Meet by Joan Halifax

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/329435 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Standing at the Edge: Finding Freedom Where Fear and Courage Meet Author: Joan Halifax Narrator: Joan Halifax Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 10 hours 37 minutes Release date: May 1, 2018 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 4.33 of Total 3 Genres: World Religions Publisher's Summary: 'In Standing at the Edge, Joan Halifax weaves together scientific research and her own powerful personal experiences as a social activist and humanitarian to show how we can transform our biggest challenges with compassion and wisdom. Standing at the Edge is essential reading for our time.' — Arianna Huffington, founder and CEO of Thrive Global Standing at the Edge is an evocative examination of how we can respond to suffering, live our fullest lives, and remain open to the full spectrum of our human experience. Joan Halifax has enriched thousands of lives around the world through her work as a humanitarian, a social activist, an anthropologist, and as a Buddhist teacher. Over many decades, she has also collaborated with neuroscientists, clinicians, and psychologists to understand how contemplative practice can be a vehicle for social transformation. Through her unusual background, she developed an understanding of how our greatest challenges can become the most valuable source of our wisdom—and how we can transform our experience of suffering into the power of compassion for the benefit of others. In this audiobook, Halifax identifies five psychological territories she calls Edge States—altruism, empathy, integrity, respect, and engagement—that epitomize strength of character. Yet each of these states can also be the cause of personal and social suffering. In this way, these five psychological experiences form edges, and it is only when we stand at these edges that we become open to the full range of our human experience and discover who we really are. Recounting the experiences of caregivers, activists, humanitarians, politicians, parents, and teachers, incorporating the wisdom of Zen traditions and mindfulness practices, and rooted in Halifax’s groundbreaking research on compassion, Standing at the Edge is destined to become a contemporary classic. A powerful guide on how to find the freedom we seek for others and ourselves, this is an audiobook that will serve us all. Praise for Standing at the Edge: '...narrator Joan Halifax's meditative voice takes us by the ear and reorients us toward serenity...Her slow and steady pace allows listeners to keep up with the considerable wisdom she is passing along. This title will likely leave listeners feeling serene.' - AudioFile Magazine 'Halifax offers an invitation to hold these states not only in our minds, but in our hearts.' — Psychology Today
