Episode Transcript

Welcome to Unjaded. You know what I just realized? I just realized that I have been batch recording podcast episodes all afternoon and I have not worn my headphones for any of them. So I sure hope that my amazing editor, Alvin is able to fix this up for us because otherwise it will be driving you crazy, especially if you have one of the acoustic gates in your human design. So on this episode of Unjaded, we are going to be answering. I am going to be answering a listener question. And that listener question is, what does responding actually look like in real life? I know that as a generator or a manifesting generator, I am here to live in response, but I don't have the first clue what that actually means in my life. I love this question and I get it all the time from generator types. So stay tuned if you would like to know how to use your strategy of response in your actual life.

Welcome to unjaded. This is your straight talk shoot from the hip, wrapped in a little bit of love. Human design for business podcast we talk a lot here about clicking clarifying your message so that you can bring in paying clients with ease and ease is different from easy. Stick around to find out how we roll here. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. I am a two four emotional manifesting generator, light on the emotional, and I'm a quad right human design.

In realspeak. I am an entrepreneur of 30 plus years. I've had every kind of business there is, and I always say that business is my love language. I can't wait to dive in with you here on the podcast. So first, if you have no idea what I am talking about with these funny words like manifesting generator and response and strategy, then I invite you to go to my website. It's vickiedickson.com. It's linked in the show notes. Just pause this episode and head on over there to run your human design chart. So, human design is a snapshot of two moments in time. It's the moment of your birth and the moment your soul entered your body about 88 days before birth. It's a mix of different systems, like the I ching, the chakra system, the kabbalah, and astrology, and it gives you a snapshot of who you're here to be.

I'm telling you, human design, it is incredible how bang on it is every single time. I was just talking to my chiropractor today, and he didn't know what it was either. And I said, you know, even when I have. I'm sorry, guys, if you're listening. But even when I have husbands come to me and they, you know, their wives bought them a reading or whatever or making them do this, and they don't really believe in it every single time, they're like, oh my God, how did you know that? And your human design holds your highest potential, your greatest gifts, all of the ways that you've been told that you're wrong and how to actually come out and stand in your power again so that you can have the impact that you're here to have. So each of the human design types, there are four or five human design types, depending on who you ask. Manifesting generators are a subtype of generators. So they are a generator type.

So that's where we get the four versus five. But all of each type has its own strategy for how to show up in life, for how your energy works in life. And generator types, which includes manifesting generators, have these big enveloping auras. They take everything in. We want to just like magnetize everything to us, and our strategy is to respond. So responding is different than reacting, but it is actually responding to things that are already happening around you. So you're not here to initiate as a generator type, but we've all been conditioned to go out and make things happen, right? Like the Nike commercials, just do it. But as a generator, we wait to respond, which doesn't mean that you're doing nothing while you're waiting to respond.

The secret is in making the waiting juicy. I love the word juicy. Now you may call it something else. So, as a generator, manifesting generator, your signature theme, the thing that you makes you know that you are 100% on track, is when you feel satisfied. So I would ask you, how would you describe a feeling of satisfaction when you are fully and totally satisfied? What does that feel like for you? For me, it feels juicy in my sacral. It's like, you know, the moment after the perfect kiss or that first bite of a junior mint when you've been craving chocolate all day. You know what I'm saying? Or this might be not enough for this podcast, but like really, really, really good sex. The feeling you have in your body after satisfaction, absolutely satisfied.

So by doing what you love as a generator type, you experience this feeling of satisfaction. And when you feel really fully satisfied, your energy field is open to all of the things that the universe is trying to send your way for you to respond to. So in real life, it could look like, let's say you're slaving it away at your desk and you're trying to create a course because you've heard that online courses are the only way to make money in the online space. That's a topic for another episode. But anyway, it feels like a slog. You're sitting at your desk and you're frustrated. When you're frustrated, it's telling you that you're off track. It's not that you're doing something wrong.

It's like, hey, something's off track here in you. Your energy is not flowing the way that it should be flowing. It's not that you're getting the task wrong. It's probably that you weren't in response and you just tried to create from nothing. So it feels like a slog. It feels like you have to drag yourself into your office. It feels like you're looking at your laptop and you want to smash it against the wall. Frustration is building and it's just not coming together like it should.

It is difficult, really, really difficult to make the thing happen. That's because you're not in response, you're initiating. So try this instead. Let's say that you have an idea for an online course and you're in this mastermind, and someone is talking about creating courses, and you feel your sacral get juicy. You feel yourself be pulled. Think how a magnet pulls something to it. And I wish you could see me. My body is like moving with my sacral.

So your sacral, if you're new here, your...

Episode Transcript

Welcome back to Unjaded. I am super excited to be with you here today. I have just finished the last of our three day masterclass series at the time of this recording, and I am fired up and ready to go.

Welcome to Unjaded. This is your straight talk, shoot from the hip, wrapped in a little bit of love, Human Design for Business podcast. We talk a lot here about clarifying your message so that you can bring in paying clients with ease and ease is different from easy. Stick around to find out how we roll here. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. I am a 2/4 emotional manifesting generator, light on the emotional, and I'm a quad right in human design in real speak. I am an entrepreneur of 30 plus years. I've had every kind of business there is, and I always say that business is my love language. I can't wait to dive in with you here on the podcast.

So I thought it would be fun to take you through some of what we have done in the three day masterclass series because these are some of the things that you can be doing in your content now in order to bring you paying clients. So on day one, we talked a lot about your human design profile and how it influences your content, because your profile is the role that you were here to play in the movie of your life. It's who you be as you move through your life, and your content needs to reflect that. We also talked about the types of content that everybody tells you that you have to be posting all the time, and then you post all of this content. You spend so much time slaving over posting this content and it doesn't get you hired. So you may have heard that you need to be posting more educational content and you feel like you're basically teaching a free course on Instagram with your content. You may be feeling like you have to be entertaining people and you don't want to dance on reels.

Hello, I'm with you on that one. You may be feeling like you rely way too much on inspiring content. You just go to your default of, oh, I can't think of anything to post, so I'm just going to post something inspiring and at least it will be uplifting and it will add love and light into the world and all of those things, but it doesn't get you hired. The other thing that I think there's one other type of content that you're either using it too much or you're never using it, and that is sales content. Right? We either shy completely away from selling content or we're selling in some way or another all the time. And selling can be as little as a constant call to action for people, you know, wearing your audience out, asking them to comment, words and things like this. So we talked about those types of content, and then we talked about how to add the flavor that actually makes people want to hire you. And that flavor that you want to be thinking about adding is things that build authority in your content.

You need to show up as an authority in your content in order to get hired. You can educate until the cows come home. You can inspire all day long, and nobody is going to hire you if you haven't built authority. You want to also make your content relatable. You want to empathize and relate without jumping in the pool with your people, without being like, oh, I'm here with you. I feel you so much. You know, you're not there with them. You are a few steps ahead of the people who are going to hire you.

And then, of course, your people need to trust you in order to hire you. And the way that you build trust is by showing up on the regular. People need to be able to count on you. They need to know what you stand for and that you're going to still stand for that tomorrow and a week from now and a month from now in your content. So that was day one. On day two, we took a detour. We were going to cover something completely different. But in the Facebook group, what I noticed is that people are not clear on the problem that they solve.

Most people are not clear on the problem that they solve. And you can never create the right kind of content, the content that's going to get you hired if you don't know what you actually solve for your people. So, you know, we tend to think of niche as the person that we serve. You know, we've done all of these exercises around our ideal client, avatar, and what she drives and how much money she makes and who she's married to and where she lives, what kind of jeans she wears and all of these things. And it doesn't matter. At the end of the day, what I invite you to really put some thought into is

Episode TranscriptHost, Vickie Dickson:

Welcome back to another episode of unjaded Today is a regular Monday episode, so it's going to be a little bit longer than our daily drops. But before we get into it, I would love for you to meet Juliana. Juliana and I spent full day together in a content audit intensive, and we worked for eight hours on her really finding the message within her own human design. So we married Human Design and copywriting and writing skills and all of the things to land on messaging for her launch, because she has some big goals for this launch, and she wants to knock it out of the park, and she understands that she's not doing that with her current content. One of the reasons is that she was working with a manifesting generator coach with all of the centers defined, and she was trying to create content like that. Manifesting generator coach creates content because that's what she was training her to do. Here's the thing about your human design. Your Human Design is the window to exactly what you need to say, how exactly you need to say it, and who exactly you're speaking to, and that's not going to be the same for you as it is for me, as it is for Juliana, as it is for any of the other people who you have heard from, who've gone through my content by design system to start to create content that actually lands with their people and gets them hired. Because your content, just like everything else in your life, is an inside job. Here's Juliana.

Business Intensive Client, Juliana Christine:

I have worked with many business coaches. The work I did with Vickie during the business intensive was next level. The ahas breakthroughs and epiphanies I had were out of this world. Vickie has the ability to hop, skip and leap from human design to business strategy to deep emotional beliefs so that you can really get unstuck in your business. Because we all know it's not just the strategy you need, it's also clearing the beliefs that keep you small. As a psychotherapist, energy worker and Human Design Specialist, I found Vickie's support to be exactly what I needed. It takes tremendous skill for someone to meet me at the depths at which I am willing and want to go, and Vickie's got it in eight hours, I got to my deep inner truth at what stops me from accessing it. I got crystal clear on how I can leverage my human design and content creation, and I got her eyes on my website and how I can communicate my message with crystal clarity.

Host, Vickie Dickson:

Welcome to unjaded. This is your straight talk. Shoot from the hip, wrapped in a little bit of love human design for business. Podcast. We talk a lot here about clarifying your message so that you can bring in paying clients with ease. And ease is different from easy. Stick around to find out how we roll here. I've had every kind of business there is, and I always say that business is my love language. I can't wait to dive in with you here on the podcast. So welcome to unjaded. Today I have a super fun episode. I love these little group coaching episodes because we get to hear from other, mostly women in business, and we get to shout out other businesses in the space. So we are talking today about podcasting because it is a topic of conversation that's hot and heavy in my world right now, I'm just fresh off the launch of a second podcast. It is not my own podcast, but I'm fortunate to host a second podcast for bodygraph chart, and that podcast is called the pulse on human design. Those are highly consumable episodes. They're, you know, 10 minutes or less, most of them, and they're all about building your business. Now I've heard it said often since, in the last week since we launched, that it's a podcast for any kind of business. Would you don't have to have a human design business benefit from that podcast at all, the same as unjaded. So we're going to be talking today about podcasting. Because a lot of people are asking, oh my gosh, I want to start a podcast. Or where would you even begin to start a podcast? Or I wish I could do a drum roll here. The biggest thing that people ask about starting a podcast is how to come up with ideas. What if I run out of things to say? That seems to be the reason that people don't start a podcast. And I know I felt like that too. I had no intentions of starting a podcast before last year when I went to tribal, and actually one of the guests here today was at tribal with me as well, and I didn't even think of starting a podcast. And then we kept hearing in the room how search is going to audio and how we needed to get more...

Episode Transcript:

Welcome to unjaded Before we get into the episode today, I'd love for you to hear from Andrea. Andrea is a graduate of the content by design course, and she has been using her messaging to fill her books. She now has a 100% close rate, and I think it's really worth listening to her for about a minute, and then we'll get into the episode today, which is really meaty. It's going to walk you through how to use your human design profile in your business so that you too can create the kind of content that brings you paying clients with ease and without feeling like you're a slave to the algorithm. Here's Andrea.

Hey. My name is Andrea Slate, and I'm an Online Business Manager and a recent graduate of content by design. Now I joined content by design, because as an online business manager, my job is to work in other people's businesses and the behind the scenes and make everything flow seamlessly for them. But what I realized I wasn't doing was creating content for myself and like sharing the stories about how I serve. So I joined content by design, with the intent to start to share more content, and what I realized was that the lessons in content by design actually apply to more than (air quote) “just” social media content. Pretty soon, I was using it in my emails, proposals, articles. I do some ghost writing for some clients and articles, and I was really able to fine tune my own voice as well as better understand my clients voices when I'm writing for them. The biggest win in my own business, though, was that as soon as I applied what I learned in content by design to my proposal writing, I had a 100% close rate - successfully closing rate on every single proposal, and I filled my books so there's now a waitlist to work with me. I couldn't recommend content by design enough. You need this course.

Welcome to unjaded. This is your straight talk. Shoot from the hip, wrapped in a little bit of love human design for business podcast. We talk a lot here about clarifying your message so that you can bring in paying clients with ease. And ease is different from easy. Stick around to find out how we roll here. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. I am a two, four, emotional manifesting generator. Light on the emotional and I'm a quad right in human design, in real speak. I am an entrepreneur of 30 plus years, I've had every kind of business there is, and I always say that business is my love language. I can't wait to dive in with you here on the podcast today on unjaded, we are going to be talking about your human design profile and how it relates to creating content that your ideal clients are actually going to hear in order to hire you so that you can make more money and have your big impact. So this episode kind of came about because we had a conversation in my BG five class last week about profile, and there were a few people saying that, you know, I have this client and they're a four, six profile, or whatever profile, and they don't behave as that profile. Why would that be? Because your human design profile is the role you play in the movie of your life. It's who you came here to be, how you like the character that you you are as you move through your life. So you would think that that would be really innate and natural, right? And to a degree, it is, but I really think it's more natural for you once you accept and start living your human design. So let's unpack that. Think about when you were a child, all of the things that you were told by the world at large were wrong with you. Most often, those are the things that are the most natural to you, right? The things that came naturally because you were just a kid and you were just being who you came here to be. But let's say you're a third line profile. You were bumping into life. You were probably clumsy. You were breaking things. Maybe you broke yourself. I mean, I have a four year old granddaughter who's a three five, and she's already broken her leg, and she's always banging herself up and getting hurt, and that's just how she's gonna move through life, and that's gonna go for other things in her life as well, not just her physical banging herself around, right? Because third lines have to learn through experience. I'm also married to a third line profile for 32 years, and you know, he was so conditioned away from all of the ways he was screwing up for his whole life. Third line profiles can really feel like they're getting things all wrong, and they can have a lot of shame around that. So as you've stepped into your adult life, like, why would you want to be that? Of course, you're going to try to cover that up. No, you're not going to show up in your content as someone who gets it wrong all the time, because that just feels like people aren't going to buy from you. But that's actually when people are going to buy for you, when you show up as all

Episode Transcript:

Hey, this is Sarah Mertzlufft, your microdosing wing woman. I got my first paying client as a result of going through CBD, I learned how to speak about my business in a way that works for both me and my clients. And I am attracting soul aligned people who don't even want to sign up for my email list. They just want my product. So it has been amazing.

Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host. Vickie Dickson, this is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in. Welcome back to unjaded. Or if this is your first time here, welcome here. You're gonna have some fun today, my guest is Lori Ann murabito, and Lori Ann is a speaking coach and also a student of the content by design course. I want to tell you a fun story about how we met. Lori Ann and I have known each other about a year, and we traveled to tribal last year, about this time, actually, last year we were at tribal, which was a an in person mastermind in Florida, and we just hit it off, and here we are, a year later, we've been back and forth in each other's businesses and doing lots of fun stuff, and we take some of the same courses and hold each other accountable and all of the things to our business goals. So I'm really excited to chat with Lori Ann today, and I'm going to give you just a brief overview of her human design. We're not going to really dive into her human design, but I want you to know who she is from that perspective, and then we're going to be talking a little bit about what led her to take content by design, how she's going to use what she learned in her speaking business and in creating content as she moves forward, and all that jazz. So Lori Ann is a four, six, emotional manifesting generator, and she has the cross of the sleeping Phoenix, which is the energy that we are moving into in 2027 and beyond. So welcome Lori Ann to the show. Thank you very much for having me. I know that was a lot, and I remember tribal I you know, when you ever introduced yourself and said that you were an expert in human design. I was like, oh yes, because I think you were the only person there that had ever heard of human design before. Yes, out of 13 people, I was and I knew what my, I knew what my, my I knew that I was a manifesting generator. I didn't know so much that I was a four, six, and some of the other things that I know now that I can speak off the top of my of my head when people ask, but you know, like, yeah, I was so excited that you were in the group. I want to just bring that around for our listeners for a little bit, just because there are a lot of people here who are in the human design space. And I know that I went to tribal thinking that everyone in the world knew about human design and that it wasn't really so much of a big deal. And then I got into that room with everyone, and like I said, you were one of 13 people there, and you, you and I were the only two who knew about human design. And people were, like, gobsmacked by it, absolutely amazed. I would open my mouth and I would say something, and they would be like, Oh my God, tell me more. And I hear, anyway, that one of so I'm a I'm a line two in my human design, which means that people have to tell me what I'm good at, because I don't know. But I hear a lot that I'm able to simplify human design concepts so that people can understand them. And I guess my message for you here, if you're human design practitioners, that we always have to simplify it, because not everyone knows human design, and we walk around thinking or acting like speaking like everyone knows human design, and it's like code. I mean, it's all weird words, like the cross of the sleeping Phoenix. What the heck is that? Or a manifesting generator? What the heck is that? So this is just a little shout out that has really nothing to do with the rest of the episode, kind of though, because we talk about this in content by design, it's like, simplify. How can you simplify your message? And that really needs to be done in the human design space. So back to what we're supposed to be touching about. Talk to me about your business. Well, I am a reformed, painfully shy girl who accidentally became a professional speaker. And some years ago, I sort of stepped off the stage, although, as the speaker, you never step off the stage. And today I actually help coaches and consultants and service providers write and deliver amazing presentations that they use as their best form of marketing. It all happened by accident when somebody sent me a text saying, lorianne, do you write speeches for people? And I had so much fun helping her, and it literally changed her business. She went from losing money to having a full practice. Because you look at speaking, not necessarily as something that you are looking for. Speaking gigs in order to get paid for you look at speaking as the fastest way to grow your business. So how does someone

Episode Transcript (auto-transcribed, please excuse any typos):

Welcome back Today on unjaded I am answering a listener question, and the question is, what is circuitry in human design, and how do I use mine? If you have a question that you would like me to answer live? I love doing this, because I'm a manifesting generator, and it gives me something to respond to. Please connect with me on Instagram. It's Vickie Dickson on Instagram, and I'll link that in the show notes for you so that you can send it along. Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in. Okay, so what is circuitry? Let's start at the beginning in human design, you will see lots of little numbers all over your body graph. Some of those numbers will be colored in or defined. Those are your gates. For some of your gates, you will also see that they are connected to another gate through a line. The line may be red or black, or red and black or another color. If someone has branded their chart differently, but traditionally, they would be red and black. So the red lines, if you're looking at a traditional chart, and if you're looking at the chart that you got from my website, the red lines are subconscious. And in human design, subconscious is not something that we think of when we think of unconscious in the healing space or in the spiritual place. We think of things that we're doing unconsciously, and we want to maybe fix them, or we want to get more in tune with them. It's not like that in human design. Is it's something that you brought in in your body to have this trip around with. And it's it's not something that's changing, nor is it something that you need to change. And the black is energy that you're more conscious of, you're more aware of it's your personality. It's probably you hear about those gates on that are colored in black, and you're like, oh, yeah, I can totally relate to that, whereas the red sometimes other people will see it in you, but you can't Regardless, these lines that are colored in are called channels. So if you have a full line from one number to another number that is called a channel, and each channel, there are 32 channels, and each channel fits into one of three, slash four types of circuitry. So we have integration circuitry, individual circuitry, collective circuitry and tribal circuitry. And I'm not going to go through which channels are in which circuits, because we could be here all day, and that's a lot of information. More than you need to understand how to use your circuits. So what you really want to know is what type of circuitry you have. And chances are, you have a mix. Actually, I've worked with hundreds of people, done hundreds and hundreds of readings to date, and then also coaching and the content by design course, and all of those things. And I've only seen one person who has more than one channel, and it's all one type, and it's actually my daughter. She has all individual circuitry. I wish I had had human design when I was raising her. Oh my gosh. Oi, yay. So someone with individual circuitry has a lot of mutative energy in them. They have a lot of, obviously, individuality. They are here to be themselves. Above all else, I find that these are often people in their businesses that have to do things their own way and can't really be tied down with being bothered with, you know, a ton of one on one clients, or, you know, holding people accountable to things. They're more people who lead by example, I would say, with individual circuitry. Now, again, you may, you probably do have a mix of different kinds of circuitry, but for her, she's all individual circuitry. So it's, it's got to be all about what's going to keep her happy and satisfied in her life. She's a manifesting generator. So we're looking for satisfaction. I attended Vickie's content by design course in the spring of 2024 and my company is called Mastering your human design. And we had just done a brand pivot, a major, major brand pivot. So it was the very beginning of this brand pivot, where I started to work with Vickie. So the results are not as much in terms of followers or in terms of engagement, but it's more in terms of my ability to create that going forward as a result of this. Course, the things that I think are the measurable results are I am so much more confident on social media than I ever was before. I actually enjoy it. My copy is a lot tighter and focused. My time is being used so much more efficiently when I am in the mode of creating content, and you get all of these techniques, but the main thing for me was being able to be super, super confident about what I'm writing and who I'm writing it for, and that I'm writing it in a way that's going to engage my audience. And the last thing is as a manifesting generator who practices human design, Vickie as a manifesting generator helped me really lean...

Episode Transcript:

Host, Vickie Dickson:

Welcome to Unjaded today. My guest is Jen Vertanen. And Jen is a 6/2 Emotional Manifesting Generator, and she's going to be talking with us today about her experience in the content by design course. So if you have been looking at thinking about contemplating taking content by design, here is a real live person with a real live human design who has taken the course and is creating content based on our human design.

Intro:

Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host. Vickie Dickson, this is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

Host, Vickie Dickson:

So welcome Jen.

Guest, Jen Vertanen:

Thanks so much for having me. I could talk all day about this, course, so I'm excited.

Host, Vickie Dickson:

Oh, yay. Well, and I could talk all day to you, because I think that you just do such interesting work in the world, and it's interesting because your hustle right now is a side hustle, and you're completely happy to keep it off side hustle. You have a full time gig.

Guest, Jen Vertanen:

Yep. And I love I'm one of those unusual creatures. I feel very, very blessed.

Host, Vickie Dickson:

Yeah, and manifesting generator too, right? You get to do multiple things and be lit up by those things.

Guest, Jen Vertanen:

Yeah, even in my role at my day job, I have a very traditional role of engineering project manager. But I do everything from planning off sites to getting our E team to make big decisions to leading strategic projects, to ordering T shirts. So I do a lot of different things.

Host, Vickie Dickson:

And we will have your picture on the artwork for this podcast episode. But I think it's so fun when I get to be in a room with you, because you are so funky and so individual looking. And that is even an expression of your human design. That's your gate eight coming out in your human design. It's so cool, because many people shy away from that energy in their design, but you just embrace it.

Guest, Jen Vertanen:

Well, that's funny, because, and this it is relevant to my human design. Is that my 20s, my 30s, my 40s, I was very much about black, white, gray, with pops of red.

Host, Vickie Dickson:

Wow.

Guest, Jen Vertanen:

And when I started my own healing at 45 all of a sudden I was like, No, I want to, like, I'm this vibrant person, you know, and it's just I gave myself permission to just start playing with color and having fun with it.

Host, Vickie Dickson:

I love it. I love it.

Guest, Jen Vertanen:

I mean, and I'm 54 now, so it's only been nine years of my life.

Host, Vickie Dickson:

And it just seems so you.

Guest, Jen Vertanen:

Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Host, Vickie Dickson:

So I know you can't see Jen as you're listening to the podcast, but I'm looking at her orange shirt and her pink hair and her giant pink glasses and like it's just all so beautiful and funky. I love it. I love that expression of that gate eight in your design. So tell me a little bit about your business.

Guest, Jen Vertanen:

Yeah. So I've had a tough entrepreneurial journey in that being the multi passionate, manifesting generator with only one undefined center. You know, it's like, am I health coach? Am I life coach? Am I a business coach? Because I could go so many different ways, right and where I've really landed on and I feel it. I feel it deep in my bones, is bringing together my project management and that strategic thinking of how we attack big problems and get things done with my natural coaching and mentoring that I've been doing my whole entire life. So combining those two together to really and my my ability to give myself permission to be me, right? And it all goes back to human design and understanding my human design for bringing all of that together and helping women like me who had big visions, big dreams, what have you, who maybe have followed a more traditional career path and are like, there's something more for me here. And they're, you know, they're just kind of ready to take off. And it's so it's, you know, helping women give themselves permission to do the big things that feel scary, and then helping them actually make it happen, that it's like my that's my magic, right? Is, how do we take this big, ambiguous, scary thing and actually make it happen? And for me, it's so much more about who you become in the process of following those dreams, right? If you think of the kind of bored, the kind of unfulfilled, unsatisfied, like happy, but not really happy, you know, woman, and it's like we have so much life and vibrancy in us, and how do we bring that out and do pretty epic things in the world?

Host, Vickie Dickson:

And I don't think there's a woman on earth who hasn't been in that happy but kind of unhappy place. Yeah, you know, we always think we're alone, but no, we're...

Living Your human design can be tricky sometimes, because we get caught up in all of the shoulds and the should nots. I should be launching this right now. I should be building this right now. I should be doing more reels. You can end up pushing through energy that you don't have to do things you don't even really need to be doing in your business. And we know how that plays out, right? We don't end up with magical things in our business when we push through energy we don't have. I believe this is one of the reasons a lot of launches flock, and that's what we're going to be talking about today on unjaded. Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in, no matter what your human design type is, there's at least one element of right timing in it, and you may have several, which makes it kind of magical when you're on and kind of hellish when you're not. It can feel like you're walking through quicksand when your energy is not on. And I don't mean just energy, as we think of compared to, you know, I'm exhausted, I'm tired out, I'm worn out, or I'm energized. I don't mean that this is a different kind of energy. And as you get into living your human design, you begin to start to be able to work with this sense of right timing, and you begin to be able to feel it in your body. That's what I'm going to invite you to do today. So I'm sure that you felt before when it's time to do a launch, you know that you have all the things to do, right? You write all the emails, or you know you have to write all the emails, and you feel pressure about them, but you know there's emails to write, and there's social media posts to create, and there's videos to make, and there's so many things, and then by the time the cart opens, you're either so sick of the launch already that your energy isn't in it at all. This is what happens to me as a manifesting generator, because I'm no longer in response to things, or you're worn out from doing all of that content creation, that you just have no energy for physical energy for the launch when you need to be most in it. And that is the way that I used to actually launch my offers. I'm kind of ashamed to say it now I remember complaining to this VA firm that I had hired, that launching wasn't fun, and that by the time I got into the launch, I was over it as a manifesting generator. I was ready to be doing something different. And had I known then about how response works, I would have known like, how I do my launches now is that I am so in them, because I'm always responding to things that are happening, and I'm doing polls, maybe in my stories, and I'm asking questions, and I'm doing live trainings, and I'm having fun in my launch. And as a generator type, that's really, really important for me. The worst thing for me to do, the worst thing for you to do, if you're a generator type, is to have everything planned out in advance. Yes, we need the skeleton there. I'm always going to promote having the skeleton there so that if the energy isn't there for it, or if you get called away for some reason, or whatever the case may be, you know that you're not going to have to panic that something's not in place, but you want to be able to give your gift yourself, the gift of being in response. So I knew something had to change in my launches, but I didn't know what that was, until I discovered human design. And to be honest with you, I actually thought that that's just how launches were. I heard a lot of people talking about how exhausting launches were. I heard a lot of people talking about how their launches would flop, or how, you know, they wanted to have 20 people in, and they got five people in, and so they would launch over and over and over again, trying to make the income that they needed to make in their business. So I'm gonna walk you through what I'm experiencing now as I prepare to launch the content by design course, so that you can take the lessons from it as we go along. Okay, I so wish that you were here with me in the room so that we could chat back and forth, but I'll just stay in your earbuds instead. So my own human design is highly mutative. What that means is that the energy is not there, not there, not there, not there, and then, boom, it's on. So if you're familiar with human design, you may think that this is about the root pulse, and it can be about the root pulse, right? I have a defined root center. So if your root center is colored in, that's the bottom center on your human design chart. If that's colored in, then you have a defined root and your root naturally operates in a pulse. The energy pulses on and off. This is one of the ways that you're able to really easily most of the time. You're designed actually to manage stress very easily. You're designed to have an innate system of handling stress within your body. It's where adrenaline pressure lives in the body. So that's one of the places where this energy pulses on and off, in my own design and maybe in yours, but it also lives in my circuitry. So think of your human design circuitry as the circuit board that everything your your entire design, is laid out on this circuit board, just like a circuit board would be in your home, or an electric panel would be in your home, and that's how you do everything that you do. And you may have circuitry in your design that is also mutative. I have mutative circuitry in my design, which means that there are things that just are not there until they're there, and life and society doesn't honor this in us. I know that you feel that. I know that if you have this type of energy in your. Sign as well. You have felt many times like there was something wrong with you because you just couldn't make it happen, or you, you know, slog through and really burned yourself out trying to make it happen. And then there are other times when you just can get 10 times work done as anyone else in the same amount of time, just effortlessly. And that's because of this pulsing on and off. It's there's a pulse that goes there's many pulses, but there's a pulse that goes on and off in your body for your creativity. So right now, I'm creative in a lot of areas of my business. I am getting tons done. I'm launching a second podcast with bodygraph chart. If you're a...

Unjaded Episode 67 transcript:

Welcome to unjaded. Welcome back if you are back for another episode, and welcome if this is your first time, I'm so happy to have you here. So today we're going to be talking about simplifying your message. And this episode came about because the other day, someone commented on a social media post of mine, and I swear it was if he was speaking another language, the language was human design, but I didn't understand what the heck he was saying. And I know human design. So today on unjaded, we're going to be unpacking how and why it's time to simplify your message, so that the people you're here to work with can quickly understand what it is that you do, and hire you to help them. If that sounds good. Keep listening. Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

Okay, dear listener, I would love to invite you to repeat after me, I, your name, do solemnly swear to take all of the gobbledygook out of my messaging. Seriously, there's this thing that we do when we write that we don't normally do when we're speaking. It's like, we stop behaving like a real person. And we start speaking like an encyclopedia. If you've ever been guilty of trying to sound smart online, I am begging you to stop doing this. Never ever, ever do it. Again, the highest compliment that you can get is that you are capable of simplifying things. Let me take you back to my yoga teacher days. So I had this real knack for teaching seniors and low mobility yoga. And there was another teacher at the studio that I worked at who really looked down her nose at me, and she completely dismissed me as a valid yoga teacher. Because I just and I'm putting that in air quotes, I just taught seniors or I just taught low mobility. And then she had to teach my yoga class one day, and the people were lost, because they couldn't do any of what she was doing. She was a one woman show up in the on the mat in front of them, she was contorting herself into all of these poses, that they couldn't even begin to wrap their minds around, let alone their bodies around. So she completely lost them. And the class was horrible for them and for her. And that's how it is for your people. When you use complicated language in your posts. This is rampant in the coaching space. I call it coach speak, and it doesn't land at all. And it is really, really, really rampant in human design spaces. Because human design can be complicated, right. And I've been guilty of it myself on this podcast, where we have all of these funny words in human design, we have all of these weird concepts in coaching. And we speak about our industry, our niche as if other people get it, and they don't always get it. And if they don't get it, they can't hire us to work with them. So the simpler you can make things, the better people get that you get them, they understand that you know what it feels like to be them. And you know what, it's harder to teach, or to simplify things than it is to do the advanced version. So go back to my yoga class, I actually had to take a whole lot of specialized training, to be able to understand how to make small movements matter. And it's really easy when you're at the front of the room, and you're able to just speak to I'm putting this again in air quotes, more advanced people. So think of this in your coaching job and your human design job in your health coaching practice, whatever it is that you have, think of how easy it would be to stand at the front of the room and talk to people who already know, human design or already know your niche, it would be really, really easy. It's really easy to teach that yoga class to people who already know the poses. But it actually is more of an art, it's harder to take into account injuries and chronic conditions and replace body parts. All of those things, when you're trying to simplify something for somebody, it is not about dumbing it down, not at all. It's about simplifying it. And the better you understand something yourself as a coach, a teacher, a service provider, the better you understand it yourself, the easier it's going to be for you to simplify it. Sometimes we use the big words, and we don't make them super, super understandable for our people, because we can't really grasp in our brain how to make it make sense for them. Which means that we maybe don't have quite the understanding that we need to have of it. So it's gonna be a little bit harder for you at first to get the hang of speaking simply. But once you get on to it, I promise that your content will flow more easily out of you because you won't be worried about trying to sound smart, and that your engagement will absolutely go up. So I'm going to give you an exercise. And at the end of this exercise, the good news is you're going to have at least 10 more posts, maybe more that we'll be ready that you can get into your scheduler or whatever it is that you're using whatever system it is that you're using. So I invite you to go back to your last 10 posts that you posted on social media or blog posts.

Those are emails that you wrote whatever it is, go back to your...

Unjaded Episode 66 Transcript:

Hello, hello, hello and welcome back to unjaded or welcome. If this is your first time here, I must apologize in advance if there is a little bit of difference in sound quality today, it is raining outside of my office and from time to time I hear the little pitter patter on my window. And my dog is currently in palliative care at home. And so if we hear his little footsteps, I do not have the heart to put him outside while I do these recordings. So he is going to be participating in these podcast recordings, perhaps today we're going to be talking about your content. And if you're missing this one piece in your content, then you're getting it wrong and you're not going to be drawing the people to you that you want to draw into your world as clients. Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in. So I had a really fun experience where I was able to come up with a piece of content in response the other day, what was happening was that Emily and the kids were visiting the cottage. And they didn't have any hats because they had outgrown the pile that was there from last year. So the next day we went into town and M was on a mission to buy hats, she came out of the kid's store with this huge bag and the kids were trying them on and we were having fun just sitting at an outdoor patio. And I said to her quick take a photo, I have an idea for a piece of content. And that's how response feels when you are creating content as a generator or a manifesting generator, you get to just boom, be in the moment and create something. That's not what this episode is about. But I couldn't resist sharing with you that little piece of magic. So when you get those little hits, where you're responding something you're like, gosh, there's something in that for me, he got to create the thing in that moment. So what I did was that I sent myself a voice memo. And then when I got back to the cottage, I popped it into my Trello board. So I knew it would be there when I was ready to record this episode. That is not the topic of this conversation though. What we're going to be talking about is the missing piece in your content that may not be bringing clients to you or the the thing that's missing is why you're not bringing clients in perhaps. So picture this, we're at this patio outside, it's a beautiful sunny day the umbrella is up and the kids are trying on all of these different hats. And the best hats in the bunch. She had ball caps, and she had straw hats and she had water hats and the best hats in the bunch. The ones that the kids love the most were the most beautiful colors. There was a navy blue, and there was this turquoisey which I'm prone to air am partial to. And these particular hats were really super lightweight, because you can you wear them in the water, they dry really quickly. And they have chinstrap so that they stay on the kids and the kids were having so much fun with these, they have this big huge rim that keeps the sun off. So I immediately thought, Oh, I wonder how some of my audience members would describe these hats if they were selling hats. If you were in that hat selling business? How would you describe these hats? Why would you think someone would buy these hats, because of the big rim because of the chin strap that keeps it on the child because they can be worn in the water because they dry quickly? What are all of the reasons that people would buy these hats. And I wish you were in front of me so that we could actually play in the energy of this so that we can actually have some back and forth around this. The thing is none of those reasons are why people buy the hats. And I want you to think about this when you're creating content to sell your offers. When you are developing content to share on social media to share in your emails, I want you to think about what your customer is actually buying. So your customer is not actually buying six weekly sessions self love, better sleep, self awareness, self discipline, a weight loss plan.

They're not buying that she's buying what's on the other side of that. So let's go back to the hats for a minute. What's on the other side of a kid wearing a hat in the summer. Now I'm in Ontario, Canada, and it gets really, really, really hot and really, really sunny here. Thank the Lord because for it seems like most of the year we are under winter weather but this summer is short and it's hot. So why does mom need her kids to wear a hat in the summer? Or why does she want her kid to wear a hat in the summer? Why does she buy the hat with the chin straps that dries quickly that has a big brim on it. She buys it so that her child doesn't get a sunburn. She buys the hat so that her child does not suffer pain. She buys the hat so that her child sleeps well because have you ever had a child who is burnt crisp from the sun, they can't sleep. She buys it so that they don't get skin cancer. She buys it so that they can play outside for longer. She buys it so that they can tire themselves out in the sunshine and enjoy getting the vitamin D under their skin before they come in for the day and sleep really well. That's what she's actually buying. She's not buying the Chinstraps the dry fast. The bird am all of those things. So let's look at this through the lens of your services, say you're selling Human Design deconditioning services. First, I'm going to call you to task on that word a little bit deconditioning, let's take out words in our content that nobody knows. Let's remove it, we can use it for SEO for the people and for the people who do know. But we want to speak in regular language for everyone else. So basically, if you have a deconditioning service, or you're offering deconditioning services in your business, you're helping people to heal. That's the long and the short of it, you will need to speak like you're speaking to an eight year old. So why does someone need to do that? To know themselves? Why does that matter? So what's on the other side of knowing themselves? Probably...

Episode Transcript:

On this episode of unjaded, I am answering a listener question that came in about the not self theme in human design. What is the not self theme in human design? And what does it mean for me?

So you're gonna want to have your human design chart handy as you listen into this episode, or at least understand or know your human design type. So if you don't have your human design chart, you can head on over to the website, just pause this episode and head on over to the website, Vickie dickson.com. And grab your chart. You can do that there for free, and then come back and listen in because you do want to know your human design type for this episode.

Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host,Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

Okay, so what is the not self theme? So in human design, each of the types has a not self theme, and a signature theme. So the not self is an emotion that comes up and we it will play out for you over and over and over again in your life when you're off track. And it's not necessarily something to say, oh my gosh, I'm doing everything wrong. I think of it as you know, those old GPS is that used to say recalculating, recalculating, recalculating. That's what the not self theme is, it's just a signpost in your human design that tells you that something is off track, and you need to course correct. And the way that you course correct is by leaning really hard into your strategy. And the way that you lean really hard into your strategy is different for each type. So we're going to be unpacking that on this episode. So let's start with generators, because they make up the largest part of the population generators and manifesting generators. You're not self theme is frustration. Now, I'm a manifesting generator. And I can tell you, that frustration is absolutely the theme that comes up for me over and over and over and over again. And I mean, if you listen to a lot of people speak, they are probably generators. And the thing that they say is, oh, my gosh, I'm so frustrated. Oh, that's so frustrating. If you're someone who says that all the time, then chances are you're a generator, or a manifesting generator, because you know, what frustration feels like? That's the emotion that's going to come up over and over and over again, when you're off track. And what gets us off track is that we don't start things from the right place. So we don't start things from our ability our need to respond, maybe we try to initiate something maybe we try to get something started without leaning into our sacral authority. So if you are a generator or a manifesting generator, you have a defined sacral. And that sacral is creative, lifeforce workforce energy. And it is like a magnet to the things that are right for you. It will absolutely magnetize the right people, places and experiences to you if you allow it to. But the thing is, we override it by doing our own thing by getting things started by just making things happen, you know, Nike, go out, just do it, all of those things. So when you are feeling frustrated and off track, it's oftentimes because you haven't honored that sacral response. So the thing that is going to bring you to your signature theme, which is actually satisfaction is going to be to lean hard into your sacral response is going to be to set aside those things that are frustrating you for a little while, even though you've got a whole bunch of conditioning around quitting things too early, you're going to give yourself a pass. And you're going to set aside those things for now that are frustrating you because you know that perhaps you didn't start them from the right place, you didn't have that sacral pull towards them. You just thought it was something that you had to get done. You just committed to something, and somebody's got a deadline for you and you feel like you would be out of integrity if you didn't hit that deadline. But there is no energy in it for you at all. So how can you set that aside and instead, lean into your sacral and let your sacral guide you to the next step. And as a generator type, so a generator or a manifesting generator? We have to trust that the universe will give us things to respond to, because it always does. The universe wants to conspire with us. Absolutely. All the time. I always like to think of my sacral it's like there's this this magnet with this big, big big chain on it that is just like literally going to the experiences that are absolutely right for me. I'm having a sacred pull to the things that are right for me. And I'm not having a sacred pose of the things that are wrong for me. So how can you lean into what lights up your sacred because when you are completely lit up for an experience when you love the work that you do, you're lit up in your life and you will light up the other people in your life you magnetize other people to you because you have this big beautiful aura and when you're satisfied you know how that feels in your body. You know how you can work on something that you're so excited about? It is a part passion project and you just love every minute of the work you're doing and you could forget to eat. You could forget to sleep, you could forget to do anything for the whole day, you're so lit up about this thing, and you feel completely satisfied. And then you get into bed at night and your head hits the pillow and you're out like a light. And when you get up the next morning, you're not drained. Because you've worked late on something that you love, you will have a whole new load of energy, you're energized again for the thing. That's how we should be feeling as generators and manifesting generators, we should be feeling completely and totally satisfied. Because it's contagious. It's really important as a generator tight, that you feel good as you go throughout your day, and you can't feel good if you're feeling frustrated, and burnt out and tired. So how can you allow yourself to surrender to things to respond to? If you are stuck in that not self theme of frustration? How can you instead step into allowing yourself to respond to something in the the universe sends your way so that you can have that feeling of satisfaction projectors, so projectors make up about 20% of the population. And you're not self theme is bitterness. Now some of the projectors that I work with, they hear this word bitter, and then oh, I don't really like that word, but then I say resentful, and they're like, ooh, that lands for me. So if you're a projector and you're feeling bitter or resentful of the people in your life, the work you have to do anything that's coming up for you, then that's a clue...

Episode Transcript:

Okay, welcome, welcome. Welcome to unjaded. We are going to be talking today about marketing as a way of life making marketing a way of life. And I have some guests here on the show, this is actually a group call. So every month I host a group call on the unjaded podcast, where we get to talk about a topic that is coming up over and over again. And honestly, as a manifesting generator, it's something that I have responded to in my business. So on the call today, I have five manifesting generators and one reflector, so it's a super fun time, I always love when we can have a reflector here, because they are so rare. So you're gonna hear from all of my guests later on in the episode. But first, let's talk about marketing. And this is sparked. Because I have two conversations over and over and over again, in my business. One of them is, but Vicki, I hate social media, I don't want to be on social media. And the other one is Vicki, I hate marketing, I don't want to sell anything, I don't want to be out there, I don't want to put my face out there, I don't want to bla bla bla bla bla bla bla. So I'm in the camp that marketing is a necessary evil. I actually love, love, love, love, love marketing. But it is a necessary evil. And I know you're going to run into human design coaches who will tell you otherwise, there are many, many, many human design coaches and other coaches who will tell you that you can just be you and sit on your lotus flower in the middle of the lake and have the world come to you. And that that might be true for some people. I know that following our human design is key. And we're going to be talking about that in this episode. But while I firmly believe that following our design is key to everything in life, I also believe that thinking that we can reach our business goals, without ever marketing our businesses or without ever marketing ourselves is like thinking that we can drive across the country without ever getting in a car. Or thinking that we can bake a cake without ever putting any ingredients in the bowl, like somebody has to know that you're out here, right, and somebody has to know what you have. Business is business. And there are just some business truths that can't be overlooked. One of those truths is that people are not going to flock to you. If you don't market yourself. That's just the way it is. So, you know, maybe this has happened to you before to have your listening in that you haven't made marketing part of your everyday life. So then when you try to sell an offer, you get crickets. And I think that that's probably happened to all of us a time or two where we we put something out there for sale. And we're like, oh, gosh, this is the perfect offer. This is the perfect thing. It solves all the problem. Why is nobody buying this thing I know it's happened to me. And every time that it's happened to me, I've gone back and I've been like, Okay, wait, you didn't market this, like you should, or in my case as a manifesting generator. A lot of times it's been that I haven't really been standing in my strategy, I haven't really been using my strategy of being in response. So I'll just give you four generators on the call live and listening in. Our strategy is to respond. And we're going to be talking about this in this episode. But you know, you can work with coaches who have you or teams who will have you have absolutely everything ready for your launch. Every email is scheduled, every social media post is scheduled, and you think it's going to be fantastic, because you're just going to sail through this launch for three weeks or six weeks, or whatever your launch is, and you're not going to have to do anything. And inside of you your manifesting generator or generator self, your soul is dying, because you have nothing to respond to. So you have to use your strategy in your marketing. And we're going to be unpacking that. But this has happened to me when I've gotten crickets in my business, it's because everything was like too prepared. So so we have to follow our design that way as well. So today, we're gonna cover three tips. So really easy to follow along and grab these three tips to make marketing a way of life in your business so that you may actually even enjoy it and draw clients to you on a regular basis.

Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

So tip number one, use your human design strategy to dictate how you create the content that you're using in your marketing to draw people in. If you are a generator type, like I talked about in the launch thing that I just talked about, respond to the things around you and share them with your audience. This is when you're most magnetic. And I know that everyone on this call and everyone listening in who has had manifesting generators says, Yeah, I respond to everything in my...

Episode Transcript:

Welcome back to unjaded. Today we are going to be talking about all things lead magnets. Why do you need a lead magnet things to consider when creating a lead magnet, what you need to do after your lead magnet, what your clients want from a lead magnet, all of the things. Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

So first, let's talk about what a lead magnet is. A lead magnet is something that your potential client or an audience member can get from you that you basically use it to generate leads or to increase traffic. So somebody is going to look at your lead magnet, oh, I want that. And they're going to give you their email address, which is very, very precious to them. And in return, you're going to give them this valuable lead magnet. So I want to talk about three things that are really important for you to consider as you're starting to think about what you're going to use as a lead magnet on your site. The first thing is you do want it to be highly valuable, like I just said, people are parting with their email address in order to get your lead magnet, they are not going to want to give you their email list for something that's really lame. So you want to give high value with your lead magnet. Now, don't confuse high value with lots of information. Because sometimes that is often actually it's information overload, right, it's too much and they can't do anything with it. So the second thing that I would love for you to consider is making your lead magnet bite sized. What we want to do is that we want to have our audience members, our ideal clients, our new email people, we want to have them have a quick win, we want them to feel like they got something we want them to actually get something but we need them to feel like they actually got something out of our lead magnet. And when we just dump information on them, it actually gives them more work to do. I mean, I don't know about you, but I have probably a couple 100 PDF downloads in my files, wherever they live in my laptop. God only knows if you saw my laptop. But all of these PDF downloads that I've never looked twice at or read the first couple of pages and then like, one of the reasons is that it's information overload. Another thing is that people often use their lead magnet as a sales pitch. And that is not what your lead magnet is. So first thing highly, highly valuable second thing bite size so that your audience member or your client potential client gets a win. And the third thing is that there is a way to invite them into the next step with you, what you're doing is that you're basically starting them on your customer journey, and it is a journey. So you don't want to give them like everything that they ever are going to need to know about the thing that you do and your lead magnet, partly because of information overload, but partly because you don't want them thinking, Oh, I've got what I need. Now I can solve my problem, you want to naturally have them want to take the next step with you. And you're going to have them do that through the email sequence that you're going to build on the back end of your lead magnet. Hold on. If if this is like oh my god, she's speaking Greek, don't worry, I'm going to walk you through it. So one of the things that you're going to consider when you start to create your lead magnet, when you start to think about what type of lead magnet you actually want is the different formats that it can be in. So a quiz works very, very well as a lead magnet, they are probably one of the top performing lead magnets, that there are online. And if you're anything like me, you have probably taken quite a few quizzes online. They're just super fun to do right and then you deliver value on the back end through your email sequence. So a quiz is a really great lead magnet. Another thing is a video course a mini course think micro like really, really tiny little course, one thing. So say that you offer a seven step process in your signature program, your signature offer, you're gonna give them one thing that they can do in this little micro course, that can work really, really well it can be a series of like three, six minute videos in a PDF or something like that. I'm talking highly consumable here if you go this route, another thing that I have seen done is where people will release one module of their signature program or their signature course. And that can work really well as well. It gives people a taste of what it is that you do, if you have tons of social proof that your course or program works really, really well and that people do experience a transformation in it, then releasing that first module can be a really effective lead magnet. If you just developed your course and you're still trying to you know it's in beta and you're trying to gather feedback from people and testimonials and all of those things. It may not be the best lead magnet, this is more for tried and true courses and programs, PDFs and ebooks. These are probably the most common things and I'm going to suggest that if you can do something different, do something different because they kind of are overdone. So the thing to remember if you are doing a an ebook or PDF download of some sort is to make it extremely valuable and extremely consumable. So please do not give someone a list of one 100 things that they need to do in their life, in order to experience a change, like three things is great. Three things that you break it down, I think I have one on my website, it's I mean, I created it probably three or four years ago. So it probably needs to be redone, which is another tip, go back through your lead magnets and see when you need to freshen them up. And I'm at this point, probably with a lot of that on my site. But when it's in the health pitfalls in your human design, because I came from a holistic health background, so I was marrying the two careers at that point. And I think it walks you through three places where your health lives and your human design, which is consumable, that is enough that someone can look at and go, Okay, this is how I sleep, this is how I eat. This is how my brain works, you know, something like that. Or you could even just do it like this is how your brain works on human design, like you couldn't really chunk it down. Our tendency is to always add more and more and more and more and more information. But think, How can I simplify it, the highest compliment you're gonna get from someone is that you have simplified something so that they can understand it. And that's what you want to do and your lead magnet. Another thing that's really popular is a checklist. So you know, three ways to know that you're off track in your business, five mistakes you're making in your sales funnel. Three things your child is eating that is interfering with their sleep, something like that, like just a really quick little checklist that can be a good lead magnet a scorecard. So this is something that Adam Shively, does, he is the podcasting Business School podcast. look him up if you have a podcast he's really great to listen to. But he has a scorecard. And he suggests that anyone can use a...

Episode Transcript:

Welcome to unjaded, I am super excited today to have a very special guests with me, Kathy Gleason. And Kathy and I met at pod Fest in January this year, we were sitting, you know how you're in a room with a bunch of people. And they do that thing where you have to turn around and greet the person next to you or ask them a question or something like this. And so I turned around Kathy was behind me and we talked about the, like icebreaker question that the workshop facilitator had asked. And Kathy talked to me about her podcast, which is called as I live in grieve. And if you haven't yet listened to it, do yourself a favor and listen to it. Kathy is without a doubt one of the best conversationalist I've ever come across, really and truly. And what I love about one of the things I love about your podcast is that you ask the best questions. So she has these things that she calls toddler questions. And they're like all those questions that we always all have in the back of our mind. And we don't ask them, but Kathy actually asks them, she has been called the Anderson Cooper of the podcast world, and her podcast is really, really good. I'm not just saying that cuz she's sitting here in front of me. So really do yourself a favor. Bit is focused on grief and moving through grief because Kathy has grieved. She's had some grief in her life. And she is using her human design as a six to profile I believe, to show up as a role model to others. Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

So welcome to the podcast. Kathy, I'm excited to have you here. I couldn't be more excited to be here. And it was one of those things that immediately when we met at pod Fest and started talking, I just felt there was this true connection? A little did I know how great that connection was going to be? Because you and I have had some phenomenal conversations between January and now in just a few short months. And thank you so much for your kind words, you truly flattered me. I'm not a great one to feel comfortable with recognition or accomplishments. But you know, I'm going to try to get used to it because words like those are just, they're great. Thank you. I'm gonna be here. And you're welcome. And I appreciate you being here. And it's funny because as a generator, we don't typically think of generators in the Human Design Space is needing recognition, it's more of a projector thing that we talk about. But I actually had the experience where I got an email from a listener today. And she was like, Oh, my gosh, I'm a generator. And I didn't realize how much recognition fuels me how much how good it feels to be recognized for what I'm doing. And I think that we missed that piece for generators. So if you're listening in and you have a generator in your life, I would love for you to understand that because they don't have a motor connected to their throat, which might be weird human design language, but just trust me on it. They too need to be recognized. And that's not why I was doing this here. I really do believe that about Cathy's podcast. In fact, the first episode that I listened to move me to tears. So I remember I was walking listening to your podcast where you talked about Lee, and you'll have to listen into the podcast to hear that I'm not sure which episode number it was. But I was crying listening to you and listening to your lived experience. So and so many episodes since then. I mean, I spoke about your podcasts on a webinar or something I was doing and somebody said, Oh my gosh, I could just listen to her voice all day. I love listening to her podcast. So really, really, really, if you're listening to this, you really, really, really have to go and listen to Kathy's podcast. So thank you. You're welcome. And thank you for your gift to the like it is a gift, your podcast is a gift to the world.

And you have recently discovered human design like recently as in January, I guess a few months ago, we were in discussion with you because I remember saying to you, what is human design? And that started to me what has become a monumental experience in my life. And, you know, I remember one of the first things you mentioned about after we ran my chart and discovered that I was a generator. And one of the things you mentioned was about the decision making and how it's difficult for generators to make a decision if they're given an open ended question. And that, you know, in that moment, I that that is me, that probably is the most perfect description of me, because over the last, oh gosh, I don't know, at least 20 years of my life. When people would ask for something about me, I would always say, don't ask me to make a decision. I cannot make a decision. I hadn't at that point made the distinction that it was easier if it was a yes or no question. I just knew I had trouble making decisions. And that was the first thing. The first primary thing that you mentioned to me about generators that hooked me, okay. So if you're a generator or a manifesting generator in your listening in what Kathy is talking about is getting in tune with your sacral response. So yes or no questions are going to be much easier for you to answer than an open ended question. I know that I get those opening

Good questions too. And I'm or a multiple choice question good got a multiple choice question on test. It's like, I'm paralyzed with it. So when you are asked a yes or no question, or when you ask yourself a yes or no question, you can actually be in touch with your inner wisdom, your sacral center. So since discovering that what else have you discovered about humans? Well, it's been like, it's been like, I've been in the desert, and Allison hit that oasis. Here's all this information, and I need to know it all. I guess it's also part of being a generator, I joke with my daughter, who is a projector that we go down so many rabbit holes, because she and I both do so much research. It could be if one of us or someone in the family went to the doctor and was prescribed a medication, we have to look that up and find those side effects. You know, what are the potential, we look up the disease, we look up what else might be, we are just always going down rabbit holes. So it became that way for me with human design. And poor Vicki, I think I kept bombarding you with questions. We did a reading. And then I did the longer reading because I had to know more. And I still I have that worksheet right beside me. It's only 70 pages or so. And I still go through it. I bought two books, I've looked on websites, I considered taking a course. And round and round. And it's still human design for me. Every day, I'm pondering one concept or another of human design. Right now I think I've got a pretty fair...

Episode Transcript:

Bernie and I actually have a really cool story of how we met. But we didn't meet at pod fest. We both traveled to pod fest separately. And there was a table in the middle of the room and it had all of these business cards on it. And I went up and I saw that Bernie talks about he has a podcast, the midlife fulfill podcast. And as you know, I'm about all things midlife and really realizing our impact at midlife and beyond that we're here to have. And I contacted Bernie to just check out his show. And he said, You know, I went to that same table and there's one card that I picked up and it was yours. So somehow we are supposed to be talking about midlife together. I think Bernie is a husband, father, grandfather, and he's been a podcaster for 10 years. I would love to know more about this. You're an original b2b content marketer and content marketing is my very favorite thing. So we'll definitely talk about that. He can speak in front of crowds of 1000s without being afraid or anxious, but heights of more than 10 feet off the ground scare him to death. He does not like the ocean but he lives in Florida. And he's passionate about helping people thrive at midlife and that's what we're going to be diving in on today with Bernie we're going to talk a lot about he has the five pillars of fulfillment at midlife. Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

Okay, so welcome to the unjaded podcast. My guest today is Bernie Burgess, and I probably just butchered your last name, did I it is pronounced Borgias rhymes, like rhymes with gorgeous, like my wife and my daughter. I love that. I love that. So welcome to the podcast. Bernie. I'm excited to have you here. Well, thank you so much, Vicki. I'm excited to be here. So you are let's just talk about your human design for a second here. Before we dive in, you are a projector and you do a lot of things as a projector. I think there's a little bit of a misconception that projectors need to be tired all the time. You don't seem like a tired guy to me. But they need to be tired all the time. And they can't do lots of things. And you have had a corporate career for how long? Let's call it 40 years, or two years and a side hustle as a podcaster for 10 years. And it seems like you have a big full life. Yeah, yeah. Now 15 of those 40 years include my own business, I had an agency, a b2b content marketing agency for 15 years. So that's part of the 40 years I started in my first job at a very young age, it was about 20. And then I worked in different roles in corporate and then I had my own agency for 15 years. And then I did the unthinkable. Vicki after 15 years of running my own agency, I rolled the dice and I merged it with a few others, we did a roll up of three other companies and we went to market as a new company, not as an agency. We're currently totally pivoting. And after four years of of making that go, I threw in the towel and I just said, you know, I not happy I don't like what I'm doing. I don't even like the direction things are headed. And I did the unthinkable. And I took a corporate job. And I've been back in a corporate job for about three years now Vice President of Global content marketing for pretty large company and, and I enjoy it, but to your point, I started podcasting 10 years ago, and you and I run video and you see this big microphone. It's next to my face. I always joke Vicki that it's been an appendage because I've been in front of his microphone now for about 10 years. So I thoroughly thoroughly enjoy podcasting and I'm honored to be with you on the unjaded podcast. Well, thank you, thank you for being here. So when I looked at your website and the some of the stuff that I was poking around in there, you talk about fulfillment at midlife, and you say that looking at your whole life, and trying to look at fulfillment through the lens of your whole life would be like trying to boil the ocean. So how did you come to talking about fulfillment at midlife? Like what was the catalyst for that? I love this question, Nikki and I'm actually if it's okay with you're going to answer it and sort of in two parts. First, how did I come to talk about midlife and then why fulfillment. So as I mentioned, I've been podcasting for 10 years I was in between podcast shows back in late 2021. So I was looking I was searching for my next podcast. I had retired my previous podcast, the modern marketing engine podcast, it's still out there. I have retired that at episode 300. And that was a b2b focused podcast about marketing. And so because of the phase that I made in my life, I started thinking about midlife I started doing some research on midlife. I'm like okay, I can really sink my teeth into this whole midlife topic. And as I dug into it, Vicki, as I dug and dug and dug, what I discovered is that there's hundreds of podcasts on midlife, almost all of them, like probably 99% of them are hosted by women. And they're focused on women on topics like menopause and divorce and related topics. And of course, there's nothing wrong with that. But there's more to midlife than that. And obviously, I'm not a woman. And so as I dug deeper, I found more on this concept of happiness, who doesn't want to be happy, we all want to be happy, I want to be happy, Vicki, you want to be happy, we all want to be happy. But then I dug into that and realized that there's a distinction between happiness and fulfillment. fulfillment is more so level deep, it's really more associated with achievements, whereas happiness is more of an emotion. And nobody was out there or is out there except me Bernie boards just talking about fulfillment in midlife on the midlife fulfill podcast....

Episode Transcript:

23 years ago, my life changed forever.

It was a regular Thursday, a beautiful September afternoon. In my part of the world it is oftentimes we have summer really, really late into the fall. And it was one of those days where you know, that summer is just hanging on. And you can feel the hot sun on you. And it feels so good, because you know, it's not gonna last much longer. It was an afternoon just like that. And I was standing in the kitchen, with toddlers holding on to my legs and Hidin between my legs. And my father walked in the door. And we had a conversation that changed my life forever. I'm gonna unpack it with you here today.

Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

So my dad was 52 when we had this conversation, and this is timely right now, because I have just celebrated my 52nd birthday. In fact, the day that I'm recording, this is my 52nd birthday. And when my dad turned 52, shortly after he turned 52, he was driving home from an appointment, and he had a stroke. And that was kind of the beginning of the decline. So he walked in to my home this beautiful September Thursday afternoon. And he looked at me, and he said, I've just been diagnosed with dementia. And it's going to be up to you to put me in the nursing home when it's time because your mother and your sister won't be able to handle it. Because they are too emotional. They were their feelings on their sleeves. You are the strong one. And he turned around and he walked out the door. And my life was one way before that conversation and a completely different way. After that conversation. It was truly the biggest pivotal moment of my life. A lot has happened in the last 23 years. But somewhere inside of me, I always held up this year 52 with a little bit of dread. I mean, we know the statistics, I know the statistics well, because I have dug down every rabbit hole on Alzheimer's and dementia. And if you have a parent who's diagnosed with early onset dementia, you're 50% more likely than the average person to be diagnosed. And if you have a grandparent, you're 50% more likely. And I have a grandparent on my maternal side and my dad on my paternal side. So this was always a big thing for me, I threw myself into Alzheimer's research, I volunteered at the Alzheimer's Society, I got really involved. I had my retail store at that time, and I did a lot of fundraising for the Alzheimer's Society. And I kind of allowed it to consume me. And I really expected him to fight. I wanted my dad to fight this, but he chose not to. And somewhere along the way, I've had to understand that that was his decision how he lived his life. As I've approached this birthday of mine, I have really been sitting with the fear of this not the fear from Me. But I keep saying to my husband, can you imagine how scary that would be? Can you imagine how sad you would be that you weren't going to see your grandkids? Can you imagine how angry you would be at all of the things that you were going to miss out on. And for some reason, all of this, like compassion and empathy has just like boiled up in me as I have approached my 52nd birthday. Before that it was I don't know, like, some blame for choosing to just not fight and choosing to just, you know, go with with the disease. And also some, you know, a dare I say, I don't want to say but almost pity, but not really that deep understanding of oh my god, what would this feel like? And maybe it's because I have grandchildren now that I can sit with it and go, Oh my gosh, how would that actually feel to have this, this diagnosis thrown at you. And you know, maybe you're listening to this and you're someone who has had a scary diagnosis or someone in your life has had a scary diagnosis. And I feel you I feel you in this. So before this conversation with my dad, if you can call it a conversation, this one way conversation before this conversation, I lived my entire life for tomorrow. I had all of the systems in place. Everything was about when I retire when I get older when I this one I that I was 29 at the time of that conversation, and I was completely living for retirement. And in that moment like I can't even explain to you how quickly it all changed for me it was just changed everything and no longer did I really think about the future. I mean, futuristic is my number one strength and StrengthsFinder I have a lot of vision in my human design chart. So I mean, I'm always have an eye to the future but it like I didn't stop myself living for the future and I became this purpose driven. wingnut. Basically, it was like, I had to find my purpose. No matter what it costs me.

I had to just find my purpose.

I think we have a lot of different purposes as we go through our life. I think at different stages we have different ways of being we have different maybe ways that we realize our purpose through our career or who our family or through our contribution to the world and it changes over time. But the thing about our purpose that I've learned since discovering human design is that our purpose is really who we are here to be. It has nothing to do with what we are doing at that moment, what we are doing in our career, what we are doing in our business, what we are doing in volunteer work, any of those things, it has everything to do with how we show up in our lives, for ourselves and for others in our lives, and maybe for strangers, depending on the impact you're here to have. But it has everything to do with whom we are actually being. And that has been a huge gift of understanding my human design has been okay, I know what drives me, I know what I'm here to do. And I know who I'm here to be. So then all of these things that come up in life, I can use those experiences to build further towards my purpose to build deeper into my purpose. And you can do that with your human design too. So rather than continually searching for your purpose, as if it's something that's outside of you, let's begin to look at purpose as just the way that we move through life. That is the gift that your human design brings you. This isn't going to be a super long episode. Because I've been very careful, I hope to walk the line of not using this as therapy just as the backstory because I know that I have talked with you about it off and on. If you're a regular listener of the podcast, I know that you've heard bits and pieces of this story. And I know that if you're following along with my life, you may know bits of bout how difficult this birthday has been for me to process and I love birthdays, they are my favorite thing. But this one has had an edge to it. This one has had you know, and we have to remember that we have traumas that are stored in ourselves. And as much of the work that we do, it's still there in ourselves, right cellular memory is a thing. And this is a big one. For me. It's a really big one. And I needed over the course of this past week longer than week. But over the course of this past week, it's been pretty intense. I needed to allow myself to sit in it. And I needed to allow myself to understand that it was okay to have all of this stuff coming up around this birthday. And only natural. And that's another gift that my human design has given me is the ability to be able to go into my emotions, because if you remember, in my conversation with my dad, his conversation with me, he said, your mother and your sister are the emotional ones, you are able to handle this. You're the strong one. But you know what? I'm the emotional one. When you look at our human designs, I'm the emotional one. And they are the ones who are open or undefined emotionally. So we got it backwards, just like you've heard me say a bazillion times on this podcast, we get it backwards in society. You know, so many times we raise emotional children, at least we did back in my day, we raise emotional children to be unemotional, we teach them that their emotions are wrong, that they feel too much. And then the people who are undefined emotionally, they're the dramatic ones. And they're the ones that are amplifying all of the emotions. And they're the ones that have the space for all of these emotions, but they're not even theirs. It's so crazy. So another gift in your human design is really understanding your own emotional intelligence, really being able to dig into how you are meant to show up in the world emotionally. Are you here as a beacon as a guide, as someone who offers wisdom for others, emotional wisdom for others? Or are you here to actually feel the feels. So when you're ready to really dig into your human design so that you can find your purpose and that you can find out how you're really here to be and give yourself permission to be the way that you're here to be, you know, so many times we make our gifts, the things that we think are wrong with us. And I love to get in a room with you, and really unpack, oh, my gosh, you have so many gifts, these are the things that you are here to do. This is who you're actually here to be. And just because you've been told for your whole life, that it's something that's wrong with you, doesn't make it wrong with you. Let's get you living on purpose, every single day of your life, because none of us are here for a whole long time. That is something else that I've been sitting with in this last week or so is we've also experienced a death in the family. And I am sitting there and I'm going whoa, that it really is short. It...

Episode Transcript:

Welcome to unjaded, I'm excited to have you here today. If this is your first time, welcome, welcome, welcome. And if you are a regular listener, thank you for being here. I'm looking forward to this conversation today, because we're going to be talking about what emotional authority actually feels like in human design, and how you can actually work with your emotional authority. What is emotional authority? Well, it is the hardest part of my design that I have been working with or experimenting with for the past five years or so, and probably the most rewarding. So I'm going to tell you where to find this in your chart. I'm going to tell you how my lived experience has been working with it. And I'm going to bust some myths in the human design space about emotional authority. If you don't yet have your human design chart, please go to the website, just pause the episode and go to the website, Vickie dickson.com, you can do it right on your phone. I was gonna say I know you're walking or driving, don't do it on your phone as you're driving. But if you're walking, you could do it right from your phone. And you're gonna want to have your human design chart as you listen in so that you know if this is for you. Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

Okay, so as I said, this is based on your own human design, and we're going to be talking about emotional authority. Emotional authority is the emotional solar plexus in your human design chart. So I'm going to tell you where that is, first, bear with me if this is something you already know. But just so that we don't leave anyone behind, I want you to know where this is. So when you look at your human design chart or your human design body graph, you will see on the right hand side near the bottom, there is a triangle that will be colored in for you if this episode is applicable to you personally, if it's not applicable to you personally, that center will be white or not colored in however someone in your life might have an emotional authority might be an emotional authority, because about 53% of the population are emotional authorities. And that means that the other 47% are not and usually they find each other, right. That's the way that it works in life. So you are going to need this information as you move through life anyway, it's going to be really beneficial to have. So if that center is defined for you, the emotional solar plexus is defined for you, that means that your decision making superpower as I call it, or in human design, speak your inner authority is emotional, it means that you feel your way through life. Now I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you weren't taught how to feel your way through life. Because I know that in the generation that I was raised in our feelings were not honored. And that's not to place blame anywhere, because I believe that every generation gets it a little bit better than the generation before. But our feelings there was no space for our feelings. I hear that over and over and over again from the women that I work with. Like there was no room for my feelings in my household because everybody else's feelings mattered more. And I know in my own case, I was always told I was the stoic. You're the one who doesn't operate by her feelings. Your mother and your sister. Their feelings are vague, well guess what they're emotionally open or undefined. So what happens in spaces where you're undefined in your human design is where you will amplify things back into the field. So my suspicion is actually my entire family of origin, has undefined emotional solar plexus. So here was I, this little girl who was emotionally defined who was not allowed to feel emotion, and everyone else in my family felt it really, really big. So I didn't know I was gonna go here with this episode. But I'm going to talk to you about this story of my life. And it's important with this timing right now, because I have a birthday in this month. And it's been a birthday that I've been kind of not dreading, I love birthdays. But it's been a birthday that I've been sitting with feeling my way through for probably the last 20 years, to be honest with you. So I turned 52 in May. And when my father was 52, he walked into my house one day, it was a regular Thursday, I was standing in my kitchen. And when he walked in, I had two little boys grab ahold of my legs. And you know how the kids like hide behind your legs like that. And there were kids playing around, I had a home daycare at the time. He walked in, and he said, I've just been diagnosed with dementia. And it's your job to put me in the nursing home when it's time because your mother and your sister were their feelings on their sleeves and you're the only one who can handle it. And he turned around and he walked out the door and my life was one way before that moment. And another way after, it was truly a pivotal moment in my life. And I can't tell you since Human Design found me how often I have come back to that conversation. And like my heartbreaks a little bit for myself and this isn't like an evict me way at all but it just breaks a little bit that like wow, for my whole life. I have held this mourn this badge and almost like a badge of honor of not being a mother tional you know, if you met your my husband and me, he's emotionally undefined. So he has an A white emotional solar plexus in his chart. And if you met the two of us, you would assume that he's the more emotional one because he feels things so deeply. So I just want you to be aware that if you are looking at your own human design chart, and you see that you're emotionally defined, and you're you probably have some resistance, and you're going

This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

Welcome, today we are here with Heather Reeves and Heather has Heather Reeves yoga, I believe it's called on Instagram. And she does all kinds of healing modalities that we're going to talk about today. Heather is interested. This is a hot seat, Human Design hot seat for the jaded podcast. And Heather's interested in maybe changing directions in her business but she's not quite sure yet. So we are going to be talking about all of the things in her beautiful human design. Heather is a three five emotional manifesting generator. And if you've been around the podcast for a little while, you know that three fives are my favorite people on the planet. I have a son who has a three, five and a granddaughter who's a three, five. And it's so interesting to me. My granddaughter is a three five emotional manifesting generator 3420 Mani Jen. And it's interesting to me to see how an unconditioned child shows up in the world as a three, five compared with how an adult as a three five shows up in the world. It is so crazy to see the difference. We always say and I got this from one of my podcast guests that three fives are just a little bit unhinged. That's how you're meant to be is a little bit unhinged. And I feel like many Gen Xers were unhinged as well. So you've got it coming at you from a lot of directions, Heather. So we are going to dive into the episode today with you introducing yourself and telling us a little bit about what it is that you do.

So I'm Heather Reeves and I have been a massage therapist for 30 years. And I have sold my practice. And I'm still working within the practice treating people two days a week. But I'm also very passionate about yoga, about meditation, and about myofascial release, and helping women, especially women and women my age 50 Plus, finding ease in their physical body, but also in their minds. And that's been my niche. And it's just very much transitioning into that completely. And letting go of fear of trying on this new mind body mentor, and speaking my truth but also messaging to people in how I can help. A lot of people come to me obviously, as our bodies change hormonally, we're experiencing more pain, more discomfort. And I feel like there's so many things that I love. And it just kind of finding a structure creating a structure or a place that I can work from that I can sort of use each of those tools are all of those tools that I love. And I love incorporating crystals and essential oils into all of that.

You're so many people. So what would be homerun for you today, what would you love to get out of this quick little session that we're having today?

I think focusing direction I feel like I get onto something and then I lose my momentum. And I think keeping that momentum or for sure keeping that momentum and keeping my eye on the goal. Not giving up and saying no. And then going thinking I need to try something new or looking outside of myself maybe is the answer and listening more to me. My perfect business would look like working from home and having the opportunity to travel and facilitate retreat day is facilitating week long retreats, weekend retreats, but not being in one place. I love to travel and I love to meet new people. And I love having new experiences. And being in one office space and just massage after massage. It's very much burnt me out.

So, I mean, that is so much your design, but you need to have variability in your environment, like your environment needs to constantly be changing in order for you to feel good and do your best work partly as a manifesting generator partly as your it's called variable and human design. It's...

Episode Transcript:

Okay, so welcome to the unjaded podcast today, we have a really fun group session and we're talking about social media. So some of the things that we're going to cover in this episode are, is it really necessary to have social media to grow your business? I know that some of us have a love hate relationship with social media and we fantasize about like living on a deserted island without having to have social media. So we're going to talk about that. We're going to talk about if you do have social media, which platform should you be on? How can you use it without it draining you. And for this, we're going to be talking a little bit about human design. And then there are some human design practitioners in the room with me today as well. So they'll share their tips maybe as well. And how do you know what to post. So how this works is I'm going to talk for about 15 minutes, just a little bit of stuff that I know and have done in my social media journey. And then I'm going to open it up for questions for people who are in the room, and then everyone in the room is going to shout out their business so that you know where to find them. And all of the links that we talked about will be linked in the show notes for you afterwards.

Welcome to unjaded. I'm your host, Vickie Dickson. This is a podcast with a human design spin on building the life, the relationships and the business that you were made for. Let's dive in.

So first things first, is it really necessary to have social media to grow your business? I kind of think it is. I know we want a different answer than that. I know it's a myth. It's an urban myth. It seems to be like a legend out there somehow that maybe we could do it without social media. And maybe somebody can do it without social media. But I choose to see social media as a gift that we get to use for free to build our businesses. So what I try to do is look at social media as the welcome mat for my business. It's not the end all be all. Yes, there are some people also who build their entire businesses on social media. And maybe that's not maybe the best strategy either. But I think it is important that we be visible, what social media gives us as a way to be top of mind for people, or omnipresent so that they just think of us first when they think of the thing that we do our niche or our niche. If you're in the States. What I do a little trick that I use, and I learned this actually from Phoebe Kuhn long time ago, is that when I get ready to post on social media, I just tell myself that Mark Zuckerberg works for me. And you know, if I'm scheduling in my Trello, or in my Smarter Queue, I'm like Mark Zuckerberg works for me, it's okay, it doesn't matter if I batch all of this out at once. Mark Zuckerberg works for me, and the people that need to see this are going to see this. So I think that even though we look at social media as like a welcome point for our people, we need to be putting our focus on the long game. And the long game is anything with a search engine. So YouTube, Pinterest, blog, podcasts are some of my very favorite long term things. But anything that people can search you for, because your social media isn't going to last very long, each post isn't going to be lasting very long, right? I mean, I think you're lucky if you can get six hours out of a social media post now. So it's really important that we focus on a long game and repurposing is great for that. So lots of times what I see I love content repurposing, but lots of times, what I see people thinking is that they have to have like a big piece of content, or a bazillion big pieces of content, blog posts, and all of these things, in order to pull social media posts from them. But you can go the other way, as well. So you can take an Instagram post that you've written that you've had good response to, or that you love in your heart. And you can turn that into something bigger, you can turn that into a podcast episode, you can turn that into a blog, post, a YouTube, video, all of those things. So it doesn't always have to be going from the big piece to the little piece. One of the things that I think is really important with social media is that we're consistent. And consistency doesn't mean that you have to be there every day. You absolutely don't have to be on social media every day, if it's not your wheelhouse. But what I think is no matter what your human design is, so I'm a second line profiling human design. I know we have some projectors on the call, and we need time away, not just us. But I mean, there are a lot of us who need time away, right? And that's okay, we get to honor our design and we get to be able to pull away but that's where social media scheduler can really really help you out so that you're batching content, we're going to talk about how to batch it according to your design. But so that you're batching content as you go as your energy is there for it and then forgetting
