162: 9 Point Checklist for Wedding Vendor Reviews - Who Is Faking It Online?17 Nov 202500:12:27

Just the other day, I was chatting with three seasoned wedding vendors about how, lately, they’ve been hearing from engaged couples asking tons of questions about details that, honestly, aren’t likely to be problems at all. They were frustrated by how they’ve been micromanaged or not fully trusted. So I asked them: “How can an engaged couple really tell who’s a legit, experienced vendor who won’t let them down?”

They all agreed that it’s tough for couples to know, especially when so much of that trust comes from online reviews and testimonials that can feel overwhelming or sometimes leave you wondering what to really believe. That’s exactly what we’re diving into today: how to cut through the noise to understand what’s genuine in online reviews, and where to focus your attention while you research potential wedding vendors so you can book them with confidence.

And stay tuned till the end, I’ll be sharing my 9 Point Checklist for Wedding Vendor Reviews and help you to work out who might be faking it online.

161: Wedding After-Parties: Just Another Expense Or A Brilliant Idea?10 Nov 202500:22:57

Have you ever wondered what happens when a wedding feels too good to end, but you’re not quite ready for the party to be over? Maybe you’ve noticed how after-parties are suddenly cropping up in everyone’s wedding plans, or you’re curious why couples are making space in their budget for this bonus round of celebrating.

On today’s episode, we’ll dig into the real reasons after-parties are getting so much love lately, plus some surprisingly creative ways to throw one: whether you want a rooftop cocktail hour, a backyard bonfire, or just a cosy lounge for late-night snacks and stories. If you’re looking for inspiration well beyond the usual dance floor, you’re in the right place.

And if you listen all the way through, there’s a little something extra: a behind-the-scenes idea for making even the simplest after-party truly unforgettable, no matter your budget or style, that might just become your new favourite wedding memory.

152: Pt2 - How To Choose Your Wedding Songs & Great Musicians with Him & Her Music08 Sep 202500:37:41

Welcome back to Part 2 of my interview with Peter and Chelsea from Him and Her Music, where we continue our deep dive into how you can collaborate and work with your wedding musicians to get the very best experience in the lead-up and on the day for yourself, for you, your fiancé and your future memories too.

If you joined us for Part 1, you’ve already heard how Chelsea and Pete’s expertise, transparency, and heartfelt advice make them more than just performers; they’re planners, curators and pros at creating moments that matter. And you’d also now realise how that doesn’t happen by accident. It takes a lot of experience, thought, and coordination too.

So in this episode, Part 2 of our chat, you’ll hear some of their real wedding stories that prove just how powerful live music can be, like how they transformed a brief for “old Italian vibes” into an unforgettable evening.

You’ll learn how to choose your wedding songs, everything from your aisle song to your first dance and also hear Chelsea’s personal approach to choosing her processional and how she dealt with feeling overwhelmed on their wedding day.

And stick around to the end, because Peter and Chelsea offer their best tips and very candid guidance for sourcing, booking, and working with musicians who do more than just sound good, because experienced wedding musicians can also reduce your stress levels and weave a magic atmosphere for you and your guests.

61: Micro-weddings With Massive Impact: Why Size Really Does Matter with WedShed23 Oct 202300:33:11

While large weddings are often a blast because of the vibe that lots of people gathered together can bring and the go-go-go, smaller weddings have advantages that you might not appreciate at first glance.

Some of the most intimate, and moving experiences I've had at weddings are those with just a handful of highly invested family and friends.

Sometimes it’s the smaller micro weddings and the time and space they allow for everyone who attends, that feel a little more intentional, with guests that are present and deeply involved.

This week my guest, the incredible, Amy Parfett, co-founder of WedShed, Gravy and now author, is going to break micro weddings down for you.

 You'll learn:

• how post-covid times and the cost of living crisis are affecting wedding plans, trends and timing of getting married.

• the big advantages of little micro weddings, and

• Amy's easy 3 step, how-to-get-started guide for planning a micro wedding of your very own.

60: How Rethinking your Wedding Outfit Can Achieve Sustainability and Style with Hilandel16 Oct 202300:49:46

This episode comes with a language warning, Hillary is, like me, a fan of swearing and spreading it around like seasoning in her conversation. We clicked pretty much instantly.

And she’s got some brilliant ideas to share with you about the re-wearing, repurposing and repeating of your outfits, both for the wedding, before and after.

The Hilandel owner and designer creates wedding attire with a focus on feminism, sustainable fashion and body neutrality so she is a perfect fit for the Unbridely podcast and I think you’re going to LOVE her no-nonsense straight talk.

Today Hillary will teach you:

  • The one big question you want to ask yourself before you even start thinking about designing or shopping for your wedding outfit
  • Some key points to consider when you’re arranging deliveries, or working out where your wedding flowers and food leftovers are going after your celebrations are over, and
  • Why you can maybe skip buying those bridal pumps and get something that you really want.

And stay listening to the end for Hillary’s thoughts on how the Australian wedding industry stacks up against the rest of the world.

59: Your Wedding Processional - How To Make It Your Own and LOVE It09 Oct 202300:23:22

Most civil ceremonies in Australia start with what’s known as the processional; when certain people enter the ceremony space, typically down an aisle that is formed between the assembled guests, in a specific order to mark the beginning of a wedding ceremony.

Really, there are no limits and a question that I’m hearing more and more in my role as a marriage celebrant over the last few years in particular is: “do we have to have a processional, at all?” And the short answer is… no

But this is also when many engaged couples get stuck, what IS the alternative? How can we make it our own? And what does that even look like?

Today, I’ll teach you:

  • WHAT a typical processional might look like in a non-religious wedding ceremony here in Australia.
  • WHY you might want to change it up or skip it altogether, and what you could in that instance
  • WHO you can include, and who you really should avoid including (I’m looking at you children under 5 and animals)
  • And HOW you can do it in a way that you actually look forward to and feel comfortable with, including some ideas and tips for those nervous or awkward types.

58: Yes, The Post-Wedding Blues are Real; Here's How to Skip Them02 Oct 202300:15:15

Imagine your wedding planning is like the unfolding and riveting story of an adventure novel and your wedding is the last chapter where everything comes together.

It’s when the drama gets resolved, the narrative comes full circle and the heroes (that’s you and your fiancé) have their time to shine.

But what if the final chapter of your story was not as satisfying as you’d hoped? Maybe the closing remarks weren’t hopeful or filled with meaning, maybe one of your favourite people didn’t get their justice, or maybe the ending was so spectacular that you’re quite simply devastated that there’s no more to come.

And just like when you’ve closed the book on an incredible read, finished binging your new fave series or just heard the final siren of the season, the time after your wedding celebrations can be a big letdown.

It's commonly known as the post-wedding blues.

And while it’s not the end of the world, it’s a bummer and with a couple of tweaks to what is most probably already in your plans, you can nix most of the unpleasantness and get on with your married life with renewed vigour and purpose!

So today I’m going to share:

  • The different ways that the post-wedding blues can show up in your life,
  • 9 different reasons why you might be feeling this way, and
  • How to skip most of the bullshit too!

57: 4 Things At Your Wedding Your Fam and Friends Will Actually Care About with Hannah Rose Weddings25 Sep 202300:43:41

If doctors are the worst patients, have you ever wondered how a wedding planner goes with planning their own wedding?

Hannah has been working in weddings for 15 years, but next year, she's actually getting married herself! So I wanted to know if her experience makes wedding planning different for her. What are the easy bits, what are the perks and what is still a head fuck?

And why is she planting a cooked sausage in her garden the night before her wedding?

We'll also delve into the 4 things that Hannah believes the guests of your wedding, your family and closest friends will really care about, remember, and possibly bitch about, behind your back.

Plus make sure you listen until the end to hear our take on the global wedding vendor code and a message to those seemingly helpful, but sometimes just pain-in-the-ass wedding guests who might need to back off a bit!

55: 7 Huge Wedding Dress Questions Answered By A Bridal Stylist with the Pronovias Group11 Sep 202300:53:21

9 years ago I was so embarrassed about my budget, style, appearance and size, that I didn’t even set foot into a bridal store at all.

And if my recent DMs with listeners, and my couples are anything to go by, nothing has really changed either.

The search for your wedding attire still really comes down to confidence and your knowledge of how, where and when, rather than what the market or online options can offer you at any given time.

And this is why I’m incredibly excited for you to listen to my interview with Bianca Velt-Herron who is currently the Aus/NZ Sales Manager for 3 labels from the Spanish bridal house the Pronovias Group.

Bianca is going to teach you:

  • How, when and where to start your wedding dress search,
  • What options there are for inclusive sizing,
  • Why buying online probably won’t save you money,
  • Why some stores charge fees for appointments,
  • How many people you can bring along with you, and
  • Why you might not be allowed to take photos in-store.

Stay listening until the end to find out what Bianca’s key highlights are in wedding fashion for the 2024 season.

54: How To Love The Body You Get Married In with Sami Rose04 Sep 202300:35:52

Have you ever been invited to a special event, like a big birthday party, and immediately calculated the number of days, weeks or months until that event because you’re trying to work out how much weight you might be able to lose, or put on, before then?

Increasingly newly engaged people are being targeted for Wed shred programs and bridal boot camps and it’s not unusual to be asked by well-meaning, but less-than-tactful family and friends what your weight loss plan is, or how much you want to lose before your big day.

Sami Rose is an advocate for body neutrality and helps people make peace with food and their bodies and be kinder to themselves.

Sami is going to teach you:

  • why your impending wedding date is not the best deadline or motivation for sustainable lifestyle change or your happiness,
  • why being at your thinnest or smallest doesn’t necessarily mean looking or feeling your best, and
  • some handy questions to help you reframe the way you think about your body image.

I also share a message from one of my brides about how she feels her family have been detrimental to her body image from a very young age and what Sami recommends she do when it comes to shopping for her wedding dress.

And stay listening to the end for Sami’s best tips for keeping your confidence high, prioritising your health goals and how to love how you feel in the body you get engaged, and married, in.

151: Pt1 - Insider Secrets About How To Work With Great Musicians For Your Wedding with Him & Her Music01 Sep 202500:42:29

You know, I’ve not realised until recently that, for most engaged couples, they’ve never booked and worked with musicians before. In fact, your wedding day might just be the only time you need to discuss an event run sheet, set list, and power requirements with musicians.

There are some things that they need from an engaged couple to work and perform to the best of their ability. And the thing is, you probably don’t know what those things are.

So in today’s episode, you’ll meet the dynamic husband-and-wife duo Peter and Chelsea from Him and Her Music. For over a decade, they’ve made it their mission to turn ordinary gatherings into extraordinary celebrations.

They aren’t just musicians—they’re musical translators, planners, and memory-makers, bringing a deep understanding, expertise, talent and some awesome insider secrets for couples dreaming of their perfect wedding soundtrack.

In this episode, Part 1, you'll discover:

  • Why live music is so much more than just a checkbox on your planning list.
  • The most overlooked decisions and biggest mistakes that couples make when they choose and book their musicians.
  • Why you actually don’t want to be too rigid with your playlist.
  • And how your dancefloor energy is a living thing and how to let it grow, develop and thrive so more of your guests get to enjoy it and have a brilliant time.

52: What If Your Guests Think Your Wedding Is Boring?21 Aug 202300:19:04

Have you had this nightmare yet?

That none of your guests:

  • aren't going to enjoy themselves,
  • that you aren’t going to be great hosts, or
  • that your wedding is going to be boring?

It’s a sentiment that I can really relate to, but I’ve got to say, looking back now, those worries were perhaps some of the biggest wastes of my time in my entire planning experience.

Spoiler alert, they’re dumb, unnecessary and possibly (depending on how far you take it) a waste of your hard-earned money too.

So I’d like to share a little research that I did about the long-term memories of our wedding guests, what mattered to them and what has lingered the standout of our wedding celebration 9 years ago.

I also share what your guests really need to not be bored, and hence for you to not have a boring wedding, plus a reality check for those adults who claim to be bored.

51: Why Your Most Beautiful & Healthy Wedding Hair Is All About The Prep with NFM Hair14 Aug 202300:25:35

I’m the bad hair client who has been known to cut their own fringe, use box dyes and supermarket shampoo as well!

And then I feel the guilts the next time I need to go back - like a naughty kid who is about to be told off.

So when I saw the lovely Neve from NFM Hair posting on her socials about hair tips for brides and one of them was as crucial and helpful as finishing your hair and makeup with an hour to spare to make sure that you’re not stressed, have time for a drink and can just chill with your squad before your ceremony or whatever’s coming up next – I knew I had to get her to give you all the deets on how to prepare for your wedding hairstyle without the guilt trip.

How to make sure that in the weeks or months leading up to your wedding you are doing the best you can with what you’ve got.

Today you’ll learn:

  • When and how it’s best to start preparing your hair
  • All about heat protection and preventative strategies to alleviate any damage
  • Whether you should wash the night before your wedding (or not) and what that means for your stylist, PLUS
  • How to pick your alternate or plan B hairstyle in case the wind, humidity or rain is not so great on the day.

50: Unbridely Modern Wedding Gift Etiquette; is asking for cash tacky?07 Aug 202300:16:19

There are so many potential pitfalls for engaged couples and their guests around wedding gifts.

Did you know that kitchen knives, mirrors umbrellas, and anything secondhand or re-gifted could not only be considered a little strange, but also bad luck for the couple getting married?

Then there are the conflicting values between different cultures.

In the United States asking for money as a wedding gift can still be interpreted as a bit tacky. Whereas in most European and Asian cultures, the gift of money is essential, and in fact, it's considered disrespectful to not give the appropriate amount, depending on your social standing and your closeness to the couple getting married.

In this episode, I share:

  • what wedding gift etiquette looked like in the past,
  • plus 4 easy steps to making sure you get what you want, how you want it, communicate your wishes to your family and friends and also thank them in a reasonable timeframe for their contributions.

49: How To Share Your Story Through Your Wedding Flowers with Tweed Twigs31 Jul 202300:28:43

Wedding bouquets and floral design at weddings in general have evolved a lot over the years.

Today, flowers are not only used as decorative elements in weddings but can also evoke memories, tell a story, pay tribute to those who’ve passed away and even signal to your guests where they can find you (*cough* at the bar).

In fact, Graham of Tweed Twigs encourages his couples to recount the specifics of important moments that he can weave into the design of his florals to create a sense of connection and unique intentionality too.

Today Graham is going to teach you:

  • why flowers have never been more expensive,
  • and how to be creative with your flower budget so you can make more of an impact with what you’ve got,
  • how event florists differ from a retail flower shop,
  • plus how your personal stories and memories can be a springboard for your wedding decor plans.

48: How Introverts Can Create Their Dream Wedding with Comfort & Ease24 Jul 202300:25:43

Can I confess something?

I know I lean towards the introversion side of the scale because 8/10 when I plan any kind of outing with a group of people, even if I love them and I'm excited to see them, I always need to have an escape plan for when it becomes too much.

It feels like an overload of talking, thinking, and general noise, and I crave some quiet to gather my thoughts again and recharge.

So if you or your fiancé feel similarly and you tend to have a more introverted personality type, planning your wedding may come with some unique additional challenges.

In this ep you’ll learn:

  • About introversion and extroversion and how these personality traits can show up in your wedding planning and affect your needs and preferences
  • 11 practical tips and strategies for managing your wedding as an introvert to make the process and the celebration more fun, smooth and comfortable.

43: Why You Might Want A Wedding Content Creator (and what they are) with The Wedding Creators19 Jun 202300:40:04

Wedding content creators have been popping up around the world over the last 6 months or so, supplying newlyweds with ready-to-post Reels, TikToks, photos and videos of their wedding day, often within 24 hours.

They can be used to make an announcement to your family and friends after you elope, as a fun way to revisit your day, to share with loved ones who can’t make it or even as a video guest book.

Lex from Lexicon Creative is going to teach you all about how content creation works for weddings including:

  • what a wedding content creator does,
  • why you might want one and
  • how it’s different from asking your little sister to take BTS photos.

We also share how Lex and her team work with your professional wedding photographer and/or videographer, how the process works, the costs and why you want to get a content creator who’s not a dickhead. Very important.

150: Why Wedding Day Voices Matter for Future Generations with Spirit and Sound25 Aug 202500:30:55

When was the last time you truly listened to the sound of a loved one’s voice?

Have you ever noticed how it evokes certain memories and super-charged emotions for you?

What if the most meaningful memory of your wedding day wasn't captured in a photo because we chose to think a little differently about, and expanded on, the way we document weddings?

My guest, Kate Mishkin, is the founder of Spirit and Sound, a company that creates one-of-a-kind audio documentaries of couples’ wedding days.

Kate shares how she draws out deeply personal stories from newlyweds, their families, and friends, why the human voice has an intimate quality that photos can’t capture, and the coolest way couples are preserving these recordings for future generations to enjoy.

Make sure you stay listening until the end, because Kate also reveals her favourite unexpected moments from weddings, and the simple steps you can take, even if you don't hire a producer, to start preserving your own love story in sound.

42: The Huge Advantages of Eloping - Why They Are Growing in Popularity12 Jun 202300:24:06

Picture this, the breathtaking vista of a remote and luxurious destination, romantic and meaningful forever moments when life just seems to go in slow motion and a day that revolves exclusively around the both of you, your love story and your desires.

And the best part? You'll get to do all of this while saving time, your hard-earned money and your sanity!

Whether you are a globe-trotting, adventurer, a busy career-focused individual, maybe you are incredibly impulsive or you're someone who simply values quality over quantity. You may be attracted to the relative simplicity, shorter lead times, and ease of eloping.

And if you are also trying to juggle work, study your social and family life, health goals, travel and personal growth, it's no real surprise why planning a wedding on top of all of this might feel a bit much.

In this episode, Camille will cover:

  • the 6 huge benefits of eloping including some insights into the 2023 EasyWeddings Industry report on the average cost of a wedding in Australia, plus
  • the downsides of running away and getting married, including
  • a few recommended ways to navigate those difficult conversations that need to be had with immediate family and your best friends.

41: 4 Opportunities To Add Spirituality To Your Ceremony (even if you're not religious) with Minister Toya05 Jun 202300:29:45

Do you think of yourself as spiritual?
Have you ever had a spiritual experience?

Or are you more like my family and have an unnatural distrust of, and take personal offence to, alternative health practices, let alone spirituality? It's funny, but it's just not something that my family has ever really explored or taken an interest in, and yet, I like to think of myself as a spiritual person.

In the context of your wedding and in particular your ceremony, how can you express your beliefs in a way that aligns with how you are most at ease? And if you've come from a similar background to me, doesn't feel too woo-woo for you and doesn't necessarily refer to a particular religion as such.

Today I'm jamming with New Orleans Wedding officiant Minister Toya whose diverse couples have been featured in Vogue and Martha Stewart Weddings and many, many others.

As a wedding officiant, marriage, and spiritual coach, LaToya serves couples that want personalized attention, authentic joy, a whole lot of magic and genuine connection throughout their journey.

You'll learn about:

  • the 4 opportunities you have to infuse your ceremony with spirituality, even if you're not religious,
  • why LaToya only takes one ceremony a day now (as opposed to the four, which she's done in the past), and
  • her pre-wedding rituals (which are a lot more practical than you might think).

Let’s chat about wedding vendor meals.

If you haven't heard about them before, you may be thinking: why do I care what my photographer eats on my wedding day?

In this episode, I'm gonna share with you:

  • what vendor meals are,
  • why it’s respectful and more efficient for you to provide a vendor meal for your photographer, videographer, DJ etc.,

39: How Multi-day Wedding Events Help You Create More Meaningful Connections with Anthem House22 May 202300:33:56

If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times: “Your wedding day goes by so quickly”. And you’re like, what the hell am I meant to do about that?

The answer is multi-day weddings. In some cultures and religions, they’ve been doing it for centuries, but in Western culture, we’re only just starting to understand the possibilities. And this is where Dana and Courtney come in.

As owners of Anthem House, they specialise in multi-day wedding events that span over 2, 3 or even 4 days and know ALL the ins and outs to make them successful without wearing you out or sending you broke, either.

Today Courtney and Dana will teach you:

  • The different types of non-wedding day events you might want to host
  • Which guests to invite, how and when
  • The rise of more of an after-wedding vacation for you and your closest family and friends, PLUS
  • How to be prepared, pace yourself and look after your mental health during an extended weekend of celebrating too.
  • And we also solve a personal mystery for me when we chat about what the Americans call a rehearsal dinner – I mean, what the hell are they DOING over there anyway?

37: Tegan and Rohan - Hard Family Conversations and Spending Your Money on What Matters08 May 202300:55:13

I’m almost 100% certain that all engaged couples have this same problem.

And even though you think it’s unique, that your family is a bit embarrassing, or out of the ordinary, I can assure you that every family has their quirks.

You can’t choose your family and often, your relationship with them is not simple either.

It can get real messy real quick, especially when you’re talking about who you’re going to invite and the roles you want to give them for your wedding.

For Rohan and Tegan, who got married late last year, they certainly had their share of emotion-charged conversations with their loved ones. But I remember thinking at the time, that I had never heard of a couple who had handled it better and knew that I had to get them to share their approach with you.

Today you’ll learn:

  • where Tegan and Rohan drew the line about what they were going to spend their budget on when the wedding tax bit hard,
  • how Tegan decided to include her father and step-father in their ceremony and reception,
  • and the tough conversations they needed to have when they opted to cut down their wedding guest numbers.

If you’re struggling to assert yourself so you can have the wedding day you really want, Rohan and Tegan also have some great advice at the end about how delegating small tasks to your family and friends actually increases their connection to your wedding day and you.

34: How to Give an Amazing Wedding Speech (even if you're really nervous) with Authentically Funny Speeches17 Apr 202300:39:41

The fear of public speaking, or Glossophobia, is believed to affect up to 75% of the population.

So when your sister, best friend or daughter tells you that they want you to do a speech at their wedding and you’d rather stay at home and pull out your toenails with a pair of pliers, you're not alone.

But rather than adhering to the “fake it until you make it” principle, Beth Sherman believes that being honest and self-aware is actually a funnier and more smart approach for your speech.

Beth is a stand-up comedian, multi-Emmy award-winning comedy writer and the founder of Authentically Funny Speeches, where to date she's ghost-written more than 300 wedding speeches.

Today Beth is going to share with you:

  • how to reframe how you think about speeches,
  • what an engaged couple can do to help their speakers,
  • how to stop your voice from shaking, and
  • why you need to get rid of the mic the second after you’ve done the speech.

33: How to Create a Banger Wedding Ceremony Vibe (with no apologies) with Nat Sproal10 Apr 202300:30:48

You know that one friend that says everything you are thinking, but out loud with virtually no filter? For me, in the celebrant world in Australia, this is Nat Sproal

I feel like we share the same brain, but while, believe it or not, I'm a little more reserved in saying these thoughts in public, Nat, just don't care.

And it's genius because it's also part of her charm and marketing as one of the most in-demand celebrants in the country. So when I wanted to share with you the nuts and bolts of what makes for a banger of a ceremony, I knew I had to bring her on the podcast so you can reap the spoils of her worldly wisdom and delight in her no holds barred perspective with me.

Today you’ll learn:

  • how to kick off your ceremony,
  • why you might want to consider having your wedding party sit down
  • how Ninja Vows work (and why they're hilarious), plus
  • fascinating factoids about weddings that you will never be able to un unhear (like what the cutting of your wedding cake actually symbolises).

And you know how sometimes in life, you might not realize it at the time, but later you can see, how you held back; that you didn't really do what you wanted to? You regret it, and you’re essentially waiting for someone to give you permission?

This is the permission episode for your wedding ceremony.

So buckle up because it’s rated SS for super sweary, but also supremely satisfying.

149: Why the Best Man and Maid of Honour Need To Rethink Roasting In Their Wedding Speech with Altar & Toast18 Aug 202500:53:49

Have you ever had to endure a painful wedding speech by an overconfident best man or a terrified bridesmaid and thought, “There must be a better way than:

a) listing off story after inappropriate story,

b) relying on tired, sexist or clichéd jokes, or

c) just winging it?”

You’re absolutely spot on. We can do better.

Today, I’m joined by Sydney Shannahan, wedding writer, editor and founder of Altar & Toast, who reveals why pushing past the first draft, using speech cards and refraining from roasting the newlyweds can transform wedding party speeches.

32: How to Save $3k on Your Wedding by Being on Top of Your RSVPs03 Apr 202300:22:12

According to brides.com, the average wedding guest list has around 15-20% of guests who RSVP they’re not attending. So if you've got a 100-person guest list, for example, this would mean 15 to 20 people are not planning on showing up.

So you don't need to add them to your numbers for food, drinks, or table decorations. And when you really think about table decorations, you can imagine that each table for your reception may have linen. So tablecloth, napkin plates, glassware, cutlery, centrepieces, table numbers, candles, floral display.

If we are talking about a full wedding, this cost could easily be around $150 per person. Or $3,000 that you could save on your wedding IF you can get those RSVPs back in time.

That's a BIG if and therein lies the rub, my friend.

It's quite distressing, but also super common for wedding guests not to RSVP for many different reasons, but today you'll learn:

  • the 4 main reasons that your family and friends won't RSVP to your wedding on time,
  • plus the 6 ways that you can be proactive about it and change the result, which could potentially save you around $3k on your wedding!

30: 3 Often Forgotten Aspects That Can Make Your Wedding Ceremony Awesome with Roxy Hotten20 Mar 202300:17:18

Sometimes engaged couples feel like they don't have a lot of input into their wedding ceremony and how well it goes. That either the celebrant or officiant gets it right, or very, very wrong. But when you have knowledge about these three key parts of your ceremony, you have the ability to affect the outcome and feel more confident too.

And this is precisely why my chat with gregarious, dynamic, and laid-back celebrant Bridbane-based celebrant, Roxy Hotten, is so important for you to hear.

Roxy is gonna teach you 3 often forgotten aspects of your ceremony. Which, when you give them a little thought and a little pre-planning, can really make a difference to both you and your family and friends. It's the difference between a ceremony that feels amazing and one that your guests are just waiting for it to end.

We chat about Roxy's most memorable ceremony in Egypt, and she shares all about wedding guest care, different recessional options (that's the part where you're walking out as a married couple) and also the perfect length of a ceremony for you.

There are countless different traditions, superstitions, cultural influences and religions that you may want to consider and include in your wedding planning and your day of activities.

But the number one thing that I implore you to consider is:

Your host, Camille Abbott, shares 6 outdated wedding traditions that don't make sense in 2023, and a few ideas for how to give them a bit of a glow-up.

Maybe you can start a beautiful and meaningful new tradition that you'll be proud to have your family pass down in the future.

Steven Athinodorou is the Adelaide Showroom & Business Development Manager for Australian made-to-measure tailor, Oscar Hunt.

The short story is, Steven knows his stuff.

25: 5 smart things to do when you buy a pre-loved wedding dress + Felicia's experience with StillWhite13 Feb 202300:32:02

Did you know that some wedding gowns already purchased in anticipation of the big wedding day pre-covid, never got to have their moment in the sun?

This was the case for Felicia’s second-hand wedding dress.

Over the last 3 years with the pandemic and the fallout of travel bans, lockdowns and social restrictions, there has been a wholesale shift and change in many engaged couples’ wedding plans, expectations and budgets.

Felicia purchased her gown on the online platform StillWhite and it had not even been worn as the original owner had planned her wedding, then it was postponed due to complications around covid and then they decided to elope.

Recently married Felicia is a self-confessed “financially meticulous person” and did a whole heap of research before she decided to click the “Contact seller” button.

Fortunately for you, Felicia is really generous and happy to share how she did it and today you’ll learn all about her experience, the pros and cons of buying pre-loved, including local bridal boutique The Bride Lab’s perspective and advice, and the 5 smart things to do when you buy a pre-loved wedding dress.

24: Weddings are a team sport Manage My Wedding podcast guest interview06 Feb 202300:52:16

This week I’m sharing the guest interview I did with Yvette Sitters on the Manage My Wedding podcast a little while ago.

Yevette is a wedding planner with 22 years of experience, the creator of the Manage My Wedding app, the Manage My Wedding online store and obviously podcast host. She’s a bit of an overachiever, a type-A planner and a family woman.

Yvette asked me what I mean when I say “weddings are a team sport”, how to choose and book your wedding vendors and also my biggest wedding planning tip for engaged couples.

I love the sound of this interview like it’s just a chat between two old friends and yet, it was the very first time we’d ever spoken. Yvette truly practices what she preaches about supporting other women in business and I can’t wait to interview her this year.

23: How to get Better Wedding Photos with Time and Intention with Time with Alex30 Jan 202300:19:15

“Giving each thing that you do on your wedding day 110% will result in photos that make you feel something.”

Wedding photographer, Alex Szczesniak, from Time With Alex, believes that engaged couples can get better wedding photos by doubling down on their intentions and making smart use of their very limited time.

He also believes that wedding photography is a service first and an art form second and shares how to be more efficient with your family photos, why reception entrances are the worst waste of time ever, and why he let his Mum tell him who to invite to his own wedding.

148: 9 Point Beach Wedding Ceremony Checklist, For Your Perfectly Imperfect Day11 Aug 202500:24:09

Have you ever pictured yourself gliding barefoot down a sandy aisle, ocean glistening in the distance, a soft sea breeze gently tousling your hair, feeling content and chilled while surrounded by your favourite people?

It sounds perfect… right up until someone forgets the sunscreen, your nan gets heat stroke, and that gentle breeze turns into a storm-force gale that rips your floral display clean off your ceremony arch.

There’s nothing wrong with having a beach wedding. But what you need to come to terms with is that you have control over next to nothing in that setting.

Because here’s the real secret: the most amazing beach weddings aren’t the ones where nothing went wrong—they’re the ones where the couple had prepared as much as they possibly could, and then accepted that a few surprises were coming, and chose to laugh, breathe, and roll with it.

So today, I’m going to chat through the not-so-glamorous (but absolutely manageable) realities of beach ceremonies and 9 of my best tips for sidestepping high tide, dehydration, and sandfly-bitten limbs.

22: These 3 Important First Steps in Your Wedding Planning Change Everything23 Jan 202300:15:27

Every week, newly engaged couples ask me where they should start with their wedding planning. And there are so many conflicting opinions, information and guides available.

So today I'm going to share with you what I believe to be the 3 indisputable, foundational and crucially important first steps you need to take after you get engaged. This is before you go and book anything in, go to venue opens or start dress shopping.

I've also sourced some sobering data about wedding debt, which indicates that the quality of your relationship and marriage are more likely to be negatively impacted if you are not addressing step 3 with your fiancé before you get married.

20: 6 Essential Questions To Ask Yourself Before You Pick Your Bridesmaids09 Jan 202300:17:05

I bet you’ve had this vision in your head for years now;

You’re livin' it up with your bridesmaids, on endless summer days laughing in the sunshine, sipping cocktails and planning your most magical wedding day.

The reality, unfortunately, is rarely as shiny and perfect as that.

Often one or two of them are a lot less than enthralled, won’t communicate on the group chat you specifically set up to discuss planning things with, or seem hell-bent on making what should be a wonderful and exciting time as difficult and stressful as possible for you.

I don’t want that for you. And it all starts with the people you choose to surround yourself with, the ones you keep closest to you.

In this episode, I’m going to teach you the 6 deadset essential questions you need to be asking yourself BEFORE you pick your bridesmaids, groomsmen, or wedding party, including a little history on the early roles of bridesmaids which I think might surprise you and perhaps have you rethinking your expectations too.

"I'm now broke." We asked 15 women exactly how much it cost them to be a bridesmaid.
