Strength Came after Doubt - Part 1 (episode 285-1)06 Jan 202600:24:13

Have you ever wondered what to do with your doubt?

Today’s guest, Joanna Mayo has had her own periods of doubt, expressing three different things that made the difference.Ā  She explored through reading, most notably Savannah Guthrie’s book, What God Does which provided comfort and hope.Ā  Joanna became more intentional in her faith through prayer and worship along with recognizing how being authentic and vulnerable is a place she finds strength.Ā  Finding the people that support you and seeking out new connections is the advice she shared.Ā  These were the beginnings of a process that ultimately renewed her faith.

Joanna is our guest this week for Spicy Christian Women - Becoming all that and a bag of chips. This is Part 1.

What This Year Taught Us (and What We’re Carrying Into the Next) - episode 28430 Dec 202500:49:05

Do you take the time, even a few moments, to look back at the year that is coming to a close? We did.

Good friends Amy DeFehr, Mary Ann Mariani and I took some inventory from this year - like our favorite memories (time with family, travel, a big move), biggest challenges (a child’s anxiety, marital speed bumps, a desire to teach) and something we tried for the first time (going to a conference alone, giving a eulogy, going on a girls trip). Reflecting is a great way to learn and to keep growing forward.

Next we thought about the upcoming year - areas that need more focus, things we want to do, and our word for the year. It was an empowering way to kick off the new year envisioning what we want, the work we want to do, and the people we want to continue to grow into being.

Join our conversation for the inspiration needed to reflect, and head into the new year with encouragement and intention.

Amy has been on UY in Walking Off a Cliff;IKnow Because I Know; and Reflections on 2024, Hopes for 2025.

You are Your Most Whole When you Find That Thing - Part 2 (episode 277-2)28 Oct 202500:23:03

Tune in for an inspiring reminder that God’s plan is often revealed in the everyday moments—if we simply say yes.

How can you stay in the present?

Scotti Taylor shares how she’s learned to trust God daily and see His presence in the small affirmations around her.

She reminds us of the beauty in slowing down with her favorite quote, ā€œPaint what is right in front of you,ā€ a powerful metaphor for living faithfully in the present. Our candid conversation touches on motherhood, perseverance, community, and spiritual growth, offering encouragement for women navigating life’s transitions with grace and faith.

Scotti is our guest this week for Spicy Christian Women - Becoming All that and a Bag of Chips. This is part two.

Our Stories Cannot Remain Untold - episode 19105 Dec 202300:23:07

What do you think of this definition of confidence?Ā  A place of belief in oneself that is unshakable.Ā  This week’s guest, Donna Cravotta, had a lot to say about women over 50 owning who they are and not caring what others think.Ā  And that spells confidence.Ā  She shares that these women are a bridge, a bridge between how life was and how life's going to be.Ā  It’s a special moment in time.

It began after her frustration with the lack of representation for women of a certain age in mainstream media along with her determination to create a platform for them.Ā  Donna created, "The Real 50 Over 50 Visibility Project: The Wisdom Revolution,ā€ which aims to uncover and amplify the stories of women over 50 who are changing the world.Ā  She is hard at work providing ways for them to connect and collaborate. These untold stories are important for us all.

Complacency is the Enemy of Confidence - episode 19028 Nov 202300:41:51

It all changed when she read Untamed by Glennon Doyle.Ā  Elyse Muscha recognized herself in the story and what followed was an evolution of who she knew she was.Ā  The confidence came through feeling comfortable in her own skin.Ā  That involved some risk taking because one of the biggest lessons for her was the realization that complacency is the enemy of confidence.Ā  Ā

Elyse shared these practical suggestions to minimize the negativity and maximize the confidence.

You need to surround yourself with positive people (those that build you up)

Take the risk (do it scared - step on the gas, yellow lights can be complacency)

Mirror time (talk to yourself like you would to others, the more you hear it, the more you will be rewired to believe it)

Take the time to fill your cup (self-care is a must)

To follow Elyse’s blog you can find it at The Prismatic Pencil Box.

Confidence: A Powerful Place to Stand - episode 18921 Nov 202300:23:02

Wise.Ā  Powerful.Ā  Friend.Ā  That is how I would describe this week’s guest, Arlana Scola as she shared many inspiring thoughts about confidence.Ā  Like her definition: itĀ  is knowing in the deepest part of yourself you’ve got it.Ā  Even in the hard times.Ā  This is especially true as Arlana’s foundation comes from her relationship with Christ, within that she doesn’t have to worry about anything.

Arlana’s three suggestions to strengthen your confidence muscle?

Decide what you want to build confidence in: whatever it is (like public speaking)

Make a plan of how you’re going to do it (practice in front of mirror, record)

Go out and do it!

It’s ok if you fall on our face because doing so is a great teacher.Ā  You can assess and grow the muscle.Ā  If you thwart or stop you won’t make any progress so get out there and try something.

You can find Arlana at Arlana's website and by email Arlana's email.

Confidence: A Belief it’s Going to Work - episode 18814 Nov 202300:32:20

His grandfather left an indelible imprint on his life.Ā  He showed him, ā€œLove is what love doesā€ and ā€œIf love doesn’t do anything then love ain’t nothingā€ and more, all through example.Ā  I picture a humble, hard-working, confident man.Ā  I think I’m right.Ā  This week’s guest, Mike Pittman, shared this tender story of working with his grandfather as a teenager, and how it helped form him into who he became.

My three words for Mike?Ā  Creative. Curious. Confident.

Mike defined confidence as ā€œthat thing that convinces you, you can do something.ā€Ā  (Simple and profound.)Ā  And the three suggestions to become more confident?

Suspend the belief that what you want is not possible to have

Surround yourself with people better than you, at least one person you can learn from

Be willing to be taught; don’t limit yourself or miss out on knowledge

Do Something that is Hard - episode 18707 Nov 202300:37:22

Strike a pose.Ā  (You likely remember that line from the Madonna song, Vogue.)Ā  This week Jessica Stoeckeler challenged us all to strike a confident pose for at least a minute and see how we feel after.Ā  You know, stand up tall, shoulders back, chest out and head held high.Ā  Yes!Ā  There definitely is a physical component to showing up and feeling confident.

And the three things Jessica suggests we do to become more confident:

1) Keep track of your accomplishments (even daily)

2) Do some sort of challenging exercise (I can do anything!)

3) Put on some bright red lipstick (I feel GREAT!)

You can accomplish anything if you try, even hard things.Ā  Just ask Jessica.

And the Sky will be Your Starting Point - episode 18631 Oct 202300:14:17

Who do you count on when you are in a pinch?Ā  I am happy to say I reached out to this young man all the way to Nigeria (from California) and he stepped into today’s recording.Ā  Enitan Balogun.Ā  He’s been on the show before and he never ceases to surprise me with his ability to inspire this third-act woman.

His distinction between feeling confident and being confident?Ā  A feeling is temporal, it’s just for the moment, whereas if you are being confident it is a part of who are.Ā  It’s a matter of trusting yourself and your instinct.

And the three things needed to reach that point of believing in yourself?Ā  Enitan said, believe in yourself or no none else will; find a mentor who is aligned with you; and be collaborative because you are better together and you have each other’s backs when things don’t go the way you planned.

Confidence is a State of Flow - episode 18524 Oct 202300:37:02

Right after the recorded part of this conversation, we continued to talk about confidence and why we think it is invaluable for each person to have.Ā  Our guest Lindsay Gumm, said there is a deficit of confidence out there, and I couldn’t agree more.Ā  Her definition for confidence is being in a state of flow, which I thought was a cool way to describe it.

And why are we so much harder on ourselves than we are on anyone else?Ā  Lindsay walked us through how she challenges the negative self-talk that is all too easy for us to listen to.Ā  If we do it only erodes our belief in ourself.Ā  She takes quiet time, becomes aware of the voice, and then examines what it is saying.Ā  In this way she can compare it to what is actually true, to what is.Ā  A worthwhile practice and one we can all do.Ā  It can only help us with our own confidence.

Who is the Picture of Confidence? - episode 18417 Oct 202300:28:52

Who is someone we would all know that is the picture of confidence?Ā  Our guest this week, Shaun Conde, answered Brad Pitt.Ā  His reasons?Ā  For being effortlessly confident but not braggadocios, for being down to earth, comfortable with himself, and for being someone who doesn’t need to prove anything, to anyone.Ā  Of course we don’t actually know Mr. Pitt yet he does exude these qualities.

And is there a difference between being confident and feeling confident?Ā  There are opposing thoughts that say one comes first, and the other follows.Ā  For our purposes Shaun felt if you summoned up courage, you could rise to the occasion and do a a hard thing scared.Ā  Why not?Ā  You don’t know how it will go.Ā  No one does.Ā  Most people want you to succeed.Ā  The ones that don’t don’t matter in the big picture of your life anyway.

Why Am I Here? - episode 18309 Oct 202300:46:18

You start with the word joyful, and you add icity, to make Joyfulicity.Ā  It’s not an official word but really who cares?Ā  You can tell what Laura Wakefield had in mind when she coined it.Ā  Laura asked me to come on her Joyfulicity podcast and I was happy to oblige.Ā  So what did we talk about?Ā  Turns out Laura did some homework by visiting the UY website and we had a great conversation about some things she found there.Ā  Like the three core values I value most: authenticity, transparency and vulnerability, and how I claimed them.

We also chatted about the importance of knowing yourself because then you can understand who you are, build your confidence, and reduce your fears.Ā  We also pondered some questions posted on the UY website like, Who would you be if you weren’t afraid?Ā  Why are you here?Ā  What are you doing about it?Ā  Looking at passion, adding intention, can equal your purpose if you let it.Ā  You are probably the only thing holding you back.Ā  Ā

Laura has been on UY episode 154, Learn to Dance in the Rain.

I’m Singing All the Time Now - episode 18203 Oct 202300:31:36

Emily Bruning is singing because she is filled with joy.Ā  Happiness is great but joy is better.Ā  It’s deeper and it’s lasting.Ā  She has made the best out of a pivot and changed course from the inside out.Ā  She had a restaurant job she was good at and worked with people she enjoyed BUT there was that returning feeling that something was missing.Ā  I miss theater was what she realized.Ā  Emily could have settled instead she listened to the nudge and did something about it.

First she started by asking herself some hard questions.Ā  Then she wrote about them to get clearer on the answers.Ā  Emily took a leap of faith, she didn’t have all the answers, that is where trust comes in.Ā  Once again she chose theater because this was the missing piece, where her heart always was.Ā  She set that goal and kept after it until she made it happen.Ā  All along the way she created routines that helped get her there, one for the morning and one at night.Ā  These habits helped build and provide direction for her, they have brought her the joy that results in singing all the time.

Emily has been on the podcast before in Daisies Help Me Breathe episodes 13, and Takeaways and Looks Ahead episode 40.

Join us for a heartfelt conversation about resilience, rediscovering passion, and what it means to live boldly and beautifully in this season of life.

It had been far too long.

We hadn’t connected in a while, and I got to remember what an inspiration this woman is!Ā  Scotti Taylor is a vibrant artist whose story is equal parts courage, faith, and creativity. Once a graphic designer, Scotti followed a divine nudge to pursue painting full-time, uncovering new layers of self-discovery along the way. In this inspiring conversation, she opens up about life after 50, caregiving for her daughter, hormone replacement therapy, and how faith and community shaped her journey. From her European adventures with her kids, to lessons learned from her grandmother, Scotti reminds us to relax, trust God, and embrace the beauty of becoming.

The Best and Worst Experience of My Life - episode 18126 Sep 202300:38:06

Your own life experiences really color your perspective.Ā  They are a custom made kaleidoscope to how you see things, the choices you make.Ā  During our conversation, Sara Marsh shared that we view others through our own lens.Ā  Everyone has a story. Ā  We may assign a particular storyline to them to fill in the gaps based on us, not necessarily them - human nature and all that.Ā  Sara’s point is maybe it’s better not to, but to see things from their perspective, not our own.

This is especially true when it comes to her son.Ā  She calls parenting the best and worst experience of her life, and anyone who has children gets the truth of the high highs and the low lows.Ā  Throughout their lives together, Sara’s son inspires her to be in the present moment because that’s where he is.Ā  Through being a brave, kind and funny kid from the system she sees he is a survivor, and she is all too happy to give him the best start to life possible.

Staying Meant Change - episode 18019 Sep 202300:28:05

Sometimes a pivot comes from within.Ā  You want to change something.Ā  What about when the thing coming is external?Ā  For Shannon Ziolkowski, the company she worked for since college was moving headquarters from Minneapolis to Miami.Ā  She did not want to make that geographical change and uproot her life.Ā  Shannon chose to stay.

Staying would mean leaving the company she loved.Ā  Faced with lots of change she did three things to pivot.Ā  First, she rewrote her resume even though it’s something she hates to do.Ā  Looking at her accomplishments, she got some help in how to translate those in an appealing, marketable way.Ā  Next she put herself out there creating a digital presence and applied to many openings posted.Ā  Not easy but necessary.Ā  Then she networked.Ā  Connecting, talking with others she was able to lean on the people in her circle as she valued their opinions.Ā  All the while she took the advice she would give to her 10-year old self: Believe in yourself.Ā  Your decisions will be ok and it’s going to work out.

Shannon was on the podcast before in You Can Still Have Fun in the Sun episode 153.

Your Life Speaks to You - episode 17912 Sep 202300:42:19

You can hear it in her voice.Ā  It’s inviting, warm and knowing.Ā  Wilma Hollis is passionate about sharing the goodness of God.Ā  She shares that we underestimate him.Ā  ā€œHe is more Daddy, not so much Father.ā€Ā  We are his children and as she further explains we are not to leave any crumbs on the table.Ā  God has so much more for you than you could want for yourself.Ā  Wilma wants to encourage you with this knowing.

Not understanding the connection between our words and our outcomes, is how Wilma frames life speaking to you.Ā  And that’s the title of her book, Life Speaking 101: Speak Life and Win.Ā  ā€œYou have the ability to speak God’s words and get God’s results.ā€Ā  Another layer deeper than most of us tend to think.Ā  I like Wilma’s observation that GodĀ  speaks for the solution of the light instead of speaking the problem.Ā  Certainly something to ponder.

I Want the Experience for Everyone - episode 17805 Sep 202300:39:40

Her dream is for more girls to have flying opportunities.Ā  Jenn Aupke is an accomplished pilot herself and she knows how life changing aviation can be.Ā  In addition to her military career she co-founded The Milieux Project to help this dream take shape.Ā  The non-profit educates girls to realize they have personal power, for them to know they have potential, and to push into it.

As Jenn shares, aviation is the great equalizer because as you learn to fly the confidence gets built in regardless of your gender.Ā  She wants this kind of an experience for everyone and is focusing on girls to help provide the possibilities.Ā  And in this way they won’t have to compare themselves to anyone else because they will trust themselves and they will soar.

Our Best Yes is Saying No - episode 17829 Aug 202300:35:28

Most every episode a guest says something that hits me as a profound truth, one I haveĀ  probably heard before and forgotten, and certainly one I need to be reminded of.Ā  Robyn Rebold-Smith spoke of making choices very intentionally.Ā  How giving her ā€˜best yes’ to one thing meant saying no to other things.Ā  No to things that she would be missing out on but would give more quality and strength to the ā€˜yes’ somewhere else.Ā  I have been sitting in this wisdom, how simple and balanced it is.

Robyn is committed to being real and that means having challenging conversations when necessary. She investigates and gathers information to see things from all perspectives.Ā  Then she looks at her part in the situation to see how to make things better.Ā  She loves people and wants to have positive impact. We Can Learn from this Teen - episode 17622 Aug 202300:33:13

This 15-year old was quick to say yes to being on the podcast. Again.Ā  Talking about the big pivot of heading into high school, Indya Hazlett had three important things to share: have a close friend to go through the experience with you, choose a mentor who has been there before, and pay attention to what you like to do.

You never know; you could turn that thing you you’ve always liked to do into a profession. Indya plans to be a stylist after after high school.Ā  She has known it for a long time.Ā  Her favorite thing is to get ready.Ā  That entails a bit of make-up, a flattering hairstyle, a killer outfit and a kickass attitude.Ā  And guess what?Ā  Indya has all of that in spades.

The Way God Created Me - episode 17515 Aug 202300:40:18

The very thing she tried to hide, her voice, is exactly how God has used her.Ā  Jessica Williams went from wondering if she was worthy of his love to knowing she is.Ā  Her willingness to be vulnerable encouraged others to do the same and as she shared her story it opened the door for others.Ā  Jessica turned her message into a book, Healing from Past Wounds.Ā  And who doesn’t have some of those?

As Jessica explains, things have been chosen for you.Ā  Passion has been given to you.Ā  There is a plan for your life.Ā  Are you willing to surrender and trust? Ā  If so, sit back and still yourself.Ā  Listen and pay attention because the very desire you have is a call on your life.Ā  You were meant to be you.Ā  Jessica no longer asks permission to be who she is.Ā  She already knows.

Life Should Feel Good - episode 17408 Aug 202300:31:34

This woman.Ā  My three words for Isha Casagrande? Generous. Driven. Beautiful. And not just her appearance although she’s got that for sure. Her heart.Ā  It’s as fine as they come. Her joy is to inspire women to be comfortable in their own skin.Ā That can start as simply as a smile on your face first thing in the morning, and putting something on your body that makes you feel good.

As Isha shares there is a lot of good going on in our lives but we need to be careful because the bad screams louder which then tends to get our attention.Ā  So what will you focus on?Ā  Take it slow, steady, and be a planner so you can free up some time to be.Ā  Keep the quiet time simple.Ā  This is what she has learned.Ā  Isha knows who she is, and knows her calling.Ā  Can we each say the same?

No One is Coming - episode 17225 Jul 202300:50:02

No one is coming.Ā  There will be no rescues, no one to do the thing for you.Ā  Sure you will have your people, and they will be there for support and encouragement, to love you.Ā  When it comes to the work, the doing, the actual healing, well that’s all you.Ā  Peg Ruppert is here to share with us the hope and possibilities there are to thrive.Ā  She especially wants to share steps to help recover yourself fully post divorce.

About 37% of US marriages end in divorce.Ā  While that is actually lower than I guessedĀ  it still happens, and it’s still painful.Ā  You don’t hear about too many carefree, happy marriages deciding to call it quits.Ā  Quite unexpectedly, Peg has become something of an expert.Ā  She took her corporate work and applied it to the personal arena.Ā  Voila!Ā  This huge pivot of rediscovering yourself has become her passion as she looks to help those who want to do more than survive, those who want to do the work, and thrive.

Brave but Not Always Confident - Part 2 (episode 276-2)14 Oct 202500:26:24

Adventure, faith, and the courage to let go of ā€œshouldsā€

In an unforgettable conversation that blends adventure, faith, and the challenges of personal growth, Michelle LeBeau shares from the heart. From serving as a VIP escort at the 1984 Olympics, and hopping freight trains in college, Michelle’s adventurous spirit shines through. She also shares about her family’s ongoing involvement in the Olympics and her impactful work with Y Malawi, alongside a lighter moment—recently rocking out at a Rolling Stones cover band concert for a cause supporting youth homelessness.

But this episode goes deeper than stories of adventure. Together we tackle the real struggles women face—fear of judgment, failure, and not meeting societal expectations. Michelle opens up about her own battles with self-doubt and the burden of ā€œshoulds,ā€ offering insight on how self-awareness, grace, and embracing vulnerability can transform not just ourselves but also the way we serve others. Together, they explore what it means to live with courage, push past fear, and reflect the love and inclusivity of Jesus.

Michelle is our guest this week for Spicy Christian Women - Becoming All that and a Bag of Chips.Ā  Here is part two.

he has been on the podcast before in A Hippy at Heart.

I’m Going to Write a Book - episode 17011 Jul 202300:41:00

Determined is definitely an accurate word to describe Sarah Harbut’s conviction to be an author.Ā  She can remember when she was a young girl thinking she would grow up to write, and not just for pleasure, but to actually be an author.Ā  First a lot of life got in the way.Ā  Sarah returned to the passion that was there all along, and is self-publishing her first book, Less Fear, More Fire.Ā  I like that she called it her first book because it’s clear she’s determined to write more.

Sarah has been influenced by Steve Harvey’s Jump philosophy.Ā  Identify your gift then take the jump and share it.Ā  It’s worth the risk because otherwise how will you know what might have been.Ā  This way of thinking is right up the Unabashed You message.Ā  And maybe that’s why we were led to Sarah.Ā  She’s reminding us to minimize the fear and to take the fire within us, harness the power of it, and use it for good.Ā  Just like she has.

I Was Ready for Anything that Might Come - episode 16904 Jul 202300:42:01

What if you’re bad at change?Ā  What if it’s hard for you?Ā  Well if you’re Micah Burog, you lean into your people where you feel safe and can get the support you need.Ā  Cuz change can be hard, even painful, yet sometimes it can be filled with joy and excitement.Ā  Like choosing to say yes to getting married.Ā  That’s where Micah is at with a big marital pivot coming up.

We’re learning from our guests that a pivot takes some work, some strategizing.Ā  Also the acceptance that this change may likely prepare you for something coming your way that isn’t quite here yet.Ā  That was an insight Micah had.Ā  All that she’s been through prepared her for right now.Ā  She couldn’t be happier, and it was well worth the work and the wait.Ā  She had a hunch, and she was right.

You Have to Get Over This - episode 16827 Jun 202300:38:36

She likes to do something that scares her, just a little bit, every day.Ā  This week’s guest, Kelly Robinson, noticed she was stuck in the comfort zone.Ā  Going to networking events was challenging as she hung out at the cheese table, not really wanting to take the risk and walk up to a stranger to introduce herself.Ā  What did they think?Ā  Was she bothering them?Ā  She decided it was time to get over it.Ā  So she did.Ā  That’s where the choice do things differently changed her life completely.

It really can be the small steps that add up to big changes over time.Ā  There are several best-selling books on that very topic so it must be a thing.Ā  Kelly gets it.Ā  She started a podcast, and she’s expanding her real estate business toĀ  Miami.Ā  While those are bigger things they took small steps to realize.Ā  Grateful for all of it, you will no longer find her just hanging at the cheese table.Ā  She’ll be connecting with others, finding out how they turned their missteps into progress because she’s curious, empathetic and relational.

Throw Yourself into It - episode 16720 Jun 202300:34:32

What do you want?Ā  And is it okay to want what you want?Ā  Two excellent, and telling, questions to ask yourself.Ā  They were both posed by this week’s guest, Andrew Gumm.Ā  As he has gotten older he has realized how much healthier it is to curb the people-pleasing and to find out what he wants, what he values, what is of importance to him.Ā  It makes sense to me.Ā  What would your answers be?

If you find yourself having to pivot, or choosing to make a big change, like moving, Andrew shares it’s better to be open-hearted, to be curious as you experience the newness, the differentness of your situation.Ā  Don’t retreat for there are lessons to be learned, life to be lived, relationships to be cultivated, new challenges to be tackled.Ā  And the sense of having met all of this will, no doubt, leave you with a deep sense of triumph.Ā  So go ahead.Ā  Throw yourself into it.

Andrew is a friend of the show and can be heard on the following: If Anything, Be Kind and Making Merry with Andrew and Greg.

Should I Really Care About That? - episode 16613 Jun 202300:27:37

It’s a great question and one we might all want to consider putting into practice.Ā  To combat her tendency to overthink, Taylor Conde-Nau has started asking herself if she should really care about this thing she keeps rolling around in her mind so much, whatever it might be.Ā  It’s a way to slow down the thought process and to keep things in perspective.

Her last name may sound familiar.Ā  She is my daughter.Ā  Taylor recently moved back to Southern California after living in Georgia where she, and her then husband, tried to make a go of things.Ā  It didn’t work and at the age of 22 she is home.Ā  I appreciate her commitment to learn from what she’s been through while using logical self-talk.Ā  And I was pleased she wanted to share some of her thoughts during a difficult time.Ā  May something you heard here today inspire you.

First though, you need to heal from past hurts so you can believe you are as valuable as you actually are.Ā  Jen has found great fulfillment in helping clients get to the root of issues, working through them so healing can take place.Ā  Then the negative self-talk can be replaced with positive affirmations you can state, and know to be true.Ā  You now believe it.Ā  Finally.

Saying Yes to Asking for a Friend - episode 16430 May 202300:41:54

ā€œYes, I’d love to help you celebrate your one-year anniversary!ā€Ā  That’s what I said when friend, Michele, asked me to to be on her podcast, Asking for a Friend.Ā  What is it I keep reading on social media?Ā  ā€˜Empowering women empower women.’  There are so many variations of this same thought out there.Ā  It’s reality that we don’t have to compete.Ā  Michele and I each have a podcast and likely share some of the same demographic yet we lift each other up, share notes, and make each other better whenever possible.

Being an introvert I find it fascinating that I can be a talker when we hit on a subject I am passionate about.Ā  Actually it’s more than a subject.Ā  It’s a reality.Ā  A way of thinking of things.Ā  A way of life.Ā  That’s one of the things I like about being a women who is eager to help other women.Ā  (Along with the men in my life too!)Ā  Face your fear; find courage to embrace confidence.Ā  Do it scared if you need to.Ā  Find people who lift you up and do the same for them.

Here’s Michele’s podcast: Asking for a Friend.

I have long admired this woman.Ā  Michelle LeBeau is back for an uplifting conversation about faith, courage, and community. Next we move into how Christian women can build confidence, overcome childhood insecurities, and bravely step into new experiences—whether in professional settings or personal growth. With reflections on church community, faith in everyday life, and entertainment habits (from PBS NewsHour to Stephen Colbert), this episode is a reminder that courage often starts small but can change everything.

ā€œRechelle from Unabashed You, shares on today's episode how she values more than anything authenticity, transparency, and vulnerability. Key components to having an honest relationship with others, as well as yourself.

ā€˜It's only through daring to be vulnerable that we can begin to be our best selves,’ says Rechelle.

On this episode, we talk about living a third act, what it means to live our passion with purpose, and how we've all been given different gifts to use in this life.ā€

Small Petal, Big Flower Energy - episode 16002 May 202300:50:44

Small petal, big flower energy.Ā  That is how Kassidy Rae Broome describes her biggest passion.Ā  The world can be hard.Ā  She wants to be able to be vulnerable, like a petal while also being strong like the entire whole flower.Ā  Both at the same time.Ā  I found Kassidy to be insightful as she has given the depth of this life tremendous thought.Ā  And all this by the age of 25.

Being drawn to stories with strong female characters who figure out they do have what it takes within themselves, I believe Kassidy also has this strength.Ā  As she says she has seen some dark days.Ā  Kassidy needed all those different experiences to get to where she is today.Ā  She has made a point to see the good, to take the free will she’s been gifted, and to focus on the positive.

I Knew There was More Out There - episode 15926 Apr 202300:34:40

She likes people who are authentic, who have gone through a challenge and come out the other side, all the better for having gone through it. - an opportunity for growth.Ā  That’s Ellen Burgan, Confidence and Joy Coach, this week’s guest.Ā  And if you’ve been listening to this podcast then you know that kind of talk is right up my alley.Ā  Maybe that’s why I was drawn to Ellen on Instagram.Ā  Kindred spirits and all that.

After 30 years in the business world, having raised children who are now independent, as Ellen put it, she was not ready to get out her knitting needles just yet.Ā  Of course that’s a playful way to say she still wanted to do something, something of service.Ā  And that is what she has done.Ā  Ellen listened to the nudges and found her way into doing the thing she loves doing.Ā  Coaching others into confidence and joy.

You can find Ellen on Instagram at Confidence and Joy Coach.

I Lost Myself in All of That - episode 15818 Apr 202300:36:40

ā€œI do what I want.ā€Ā  Trish Boaz has come a long way from losing herself during the busy years of raising kids, and working for a non-profit.Ā  Since retiring and moving back to her hometown she has made herself a priority.Ā  She’s made a point to ā€˜under-extend’ her obligations, so she can focus on inside development, back to what is important: herself.

With good years behind her she’s in the sweet spot of retirement, enjoying her time out in nature, which is the place she basks in, learns from, and leans into.Ā  And there is the joy of family and friends.Ā  Trish wonders about important things like how she can spread love one person at a time, and how to encourage others to get back to themselves.Ā  Be your first love.Ā  Let’s start there.

Her Shifted Mindset Became a Game Changer - episode 15711 Apr 202300:41:42

Little did she know a failed exam would change the course of her life.Ā  Or more to the point, choosing and being vulnerable to share she had failed, opened a whole new avenue to support others.Ā  Bryn Young is a licensed architect who has built a business helping people pass the arduous six exams required for licensure.Ā  She took a hard thing and made it good.

I want to be sure to share Bryn and I are related.Ā  In technical terms she’s my stepdaughter and in more loving terms she’s one of our kids.Ā  It’s been my pleasure to watch her become the woman she is.Ā  She’s seen me go through hard things and we’ve gone through some together.Ā  That’s the thing.Ā  You don’t know what the hard parts will teach you, and how it will help you speak life into others.Ā  Accepting a setback, learning from it, and doing the work will likely bring you to a new mindset: a gentle, positive, affirming way to see things, and to see yourself.Ā  This, and more, is what Bryn is about.Ā  Listen to what you are saying to yourself, about yourself.

You can find Bryn at B Young Design

Let’s Normalize Anxiety and More - episode 15604 Apr 202300:34:52

ā€œKeep going, you will be all right,ā€ is the advice My Linh would give her 10-year old self if she could.Ā  Having experienced trauma in her early years, My Linh understands anxiety all too well.Ā  She has learnedĀ  to give herself permission on the hard days, and to accept the entire journey as part of who she is with no judgment.Ā  Normalizing this fear is now part of her message to others.Ā  (My Linh’s previous episode is She Likes to Motivate People to TRY.)

The biggest takeaway?Ā  My Linh wants us all to know there is always someone to help you the way you need it.Ā  If we can’t find it we need to look somewhere else.Ā  Many fears are worth facing and getting a handle on so keep doing the work, it’s important because you are important.Ā  Don’t you want more?Ā  And let’s hope My Linh writes her book.Ā  She has depth and value to share with a unique and personal perspective.Ā  I’ll be first in line to purchase it.

You can find My Linh at The Asian Anxiety Coach.

Everything is Always Working Out for Me - episode 15528 Mar 202300:44:20

He’s inspired by anyone who lives authentically.Ā  That’s Brandon Rice, this week’s guest.Ā  I could have spoken to him for hours.Ā  It turns out we have many of the same philosophies.Ā  Brandon wants to become his best self, and he wants to encourage others to do the same.Ā  That should sound familiar.Ā  The tattoo he has that says ā€œcourageā€ on his left forearm is a reminder of its Latin meaning ā€œheartā€ as in follow your heart, and that is exactly what Brandon is doing.

As Brandon shared, negativity is a perception.Ā  That’s why everything is always working out for him.Ā  It’s all in how you view it.Ā  Positive thoughts bring positive results while negative thoughts bring negative results.Ā  That’s the law of attraction.Ā  There definitely are ways to shift how we see things, to learn from the hard things so we can move on better than before.Ā  I know just what he means - become who you already are.

Learn to Dance in the Rain - episode 15421 Mar 202300:43:34

Laura Wakefield is yet another woman who chooses to live fully.Ā  She even coined the word ā€œjoyfulicityā€ to express the way she approaches life.Ā  She believes what her dad taught her - approach life with childlike curiosity, be excited about it, and look for the good.Ā  Laura is all about it.

While life didn’t go exactly as she planned, this single mother of nine has learned the value of a good pivot.Ā  It means changing course just a bit and continuing onward.Ā  As Laura shares in her favorite quote ā€œLife isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass but learning to dance in the rain.ā€ (Vivian Greene)

You Can Still Have Fun in the Sun - episode 15314 Mar 202300:41:24

I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with this week’s guest, Shannon Ziolkowski.Ā  Not only is she kind and thoughtful, I learned a lot about sun-protected clothing.Ā  She works at Coolibar.Ā  The name ā€œcoolibarā€ is a tree found in Australia that offers shade.Ā  We met because I emailed the company asking them if they would soon be offering additional colors of a jogger pant I like.Ā  They actually responded.Ā  Really, how often does that happen anymore?Ā  Enter, Shannon.Ā  We struck up an email chat that resulted in a Zoom callĀ  request to talk more about my thoughts regarding their products.Ā  Now that is outstanding customer service.Ā  I can get behind a company like that.Ā  One that goes above and beyond what is expected.Ā  In other words, a commitment to excellence.

Before our chat, I did not know our day-to-day clothing offers such little sun-protection.Ā  There are many who have conditions that make it challenging to enjoy activities the rest of us take for granted.Ā  And that’s a quality-of-life issue.Ā  I feel compelled to help share their message.Ā  I am grateful this company exists and is committed to creating clothing that allows you to enjoy your time outside while keeping you protected from sun damage.Ā  Thanks Coolibar.

I Had Not Seen Myself as a Priority - episode 15207 Mar 202300:42:22

If you change the way you see things then the things you see will change.Ā  That is the philosophy today’s guest, Patti Diener lives.Ā  It took her a lifetime to realize how critical self care was to every part of her life.Ā  She had not seen herself as any kind of priority. Ā  Shifting perspective, paying attention to intention, made a world of difference for Patti.

Now Patti mentors others.Ā  She has the podcast, Beautiful Second Act, in which she encourages others to live their best lives now especially if they haven’t before.Ā  It’s never too late to be more you, to find more joy, to find your purpose, explore your passion.Ā  It’s either exactly where you are, stuck in some old habits that don’t serve you anymore, or it’s something better, something more.Ā  Ask. Believe.Ā  Receive.

Every Word You Speak has Power - Part 2 (episode 275-2)30 Sep 202500:16:13

We continue our conversation, Part 2 with Wilma Hollis for Spicy Christian Women - Becoming All that and a Bag of Chips.

It starts early in life, the things we are drawn to. ā€œGrowing up, who did you look up to?ā€

ā€œI looked up to people who told the truth. I looked up to, the pastor that I had growing up. I looked up to a journalist.

I looked up to people who defended you know someone who would say, that was wrong, you shouldn't have done that. We don't have enough of that now.ā€

What do women need right now?

ā€œOur role as the primary nurturers doesn't change just because the times change. If anything, there's a… there's more of a demand on our need to nurture. There's more of a demand to make the kids feel safe, to help, you know, people in your world feel like everything's gonna be okay. And so, in these times, it's so important that we nurture others, that's still… that's still necessary, but also make sure that we nurture ourselves.ā€

Yes, that.

Wilma has been on the podcast before in Seek it and Speak Itepisode 226 and Your Life Speaks to You episode 179.

I Need Tough Love - episode 15128 Feb 202300:37:22

Here’s the thing.Ā  I learn from every single person we have on, and Jessica Stoeckeler, this week’s guest, is no exception.Ā  Becoming a mom she saw a need for clean products and joined a company that embraces that philosophy.Ā  A self-described stressed-out person, Jessica sought relief with CBD products and found another company that has the integrity she values.Ā  She shares both while working full-time and having a family.Ā  The power to choose, and become a part of things we believe in.Ā  That’s Jessica.

I know I for one needed to hear how Jessica manages her time.Ā  She has a lot of responsibilities and to attend to those well she needs a system that will help get her there.Ā  The takeaways for me: 3 things to get done each day, certain days for certain tasks, and timed blocks on the calendar.Ā  More structure.Ā  More accountability.Ā  More productivity.Ā  And that’s not a bad thing if you balance it with the other important things in your life.Ā  Ask Jessica.Ā  She knows.

You can find Jessica at Jessica on Instagram.

A Life Across the Nations - episode 15021 Feb 202300:42:29

Here is someone else I met through Instagram, Karen-Marie Gariba.Ā  We made ourselves a nice connection and here we are.Ā  Karen-Marie has quite a geographical story.Ā  As you will hear, she is from Scotland.Ā  She made her way to Canada via Hong Kong, and her husband is from Africa.Ā  How is that for an international life?Ā  She does have a love for the nations.

Karen-Marie has written a book, Goodbye Singleness. She was thoughtful in sending me a copy and I will get reading it, pronto.Ā  It details her time being single and how her faith brought her and her husband together.Ā  I loved when he told her, I really like you.Ā  It was sweet and unexpected.Ā  She didn’t get it at first then she did.Ā  Now it’s been 19 years of marriage, and one son.Ā  Life is good indeed.

He Likes to Fly Under the Radar - episode 14914 Feb 202300:48:30

We had David Crisp’s wife on last week.Ā  BA Crisp.Ā  And I have to tell you how we met because it’s extraordinary.Ā  David wrote me an email sharing with me how wonderful is wife is, how she has survived more things than most of us go through in a lifetime, and how she is now a published author.Ā  Would I consider having her on as a guest?Ā  The letter contained exactly the things I love: it was authentic, transparent and vulnerable.Ā  Of course I said yes.

When I asked David to be a guest, he was hesitant.Ā  He explained he is about being the support behind the scenes.Ā  As I see it, everyone has a story, and I already was grateful for his.Ā  The love he has for his wife.Ā  Then the email she got circled in on, and the effusive appreciation she had for him reaching out to me.Ā  Truly a beautiful thing.Ā  I’m so glad I got a peek into the love they have for each other.Ā  Isn’t that what it’s all about?
