Type 40 • A Doctor Who Podcast Episode 127: With Tasha Achilléos Welcome to Type 40 and this latest conversation in the 60th anniversary year of our favourite television series. Of course, we don’t just celebrate the onscreen Whoniverse, but everything surrounding it too! The lives and contributions of the people that helped build and expand the modern mythology of the man in the blue box and what they’ve meant to us. Your regular hosts Simon Horton and Dan Hadley were honoured when Tasha Achilléos accepted an invitation to come and chat on our Doctor Who podcast. Tasha’s husband Christos Achilléos was one of the world’s leading fantasy illustrators & artists. Whose Target book covers of the 1970’s are still reprinted and celebrated today. For Chris they began a long, industrious, and colourful career. Tasha talks to us about his life, work and their relationship. As well as her own passions and connections to the fantasy realm. Long time listeners will remember Chris once gave Type 40: A Doctor Who Podcast a fascinating interview. He sadly passed away in late 2021. Type 40 • A Doctor Who Podcast Episode 112: Almost Infamous with Vanessa Yuille & Matthew Jacobs Everyone was a “Wannabe” back in 1996. But whilst the Spice Girls were preparing to change the world, a plucky band of creatives were striding to change the Whoniverse! Matthew Jacobs was the writer given that unenviable task of pleasing both the BBC and Fox Studios to deliver a script that would bring Doctor Who back to screens after a 7 year gap. The TV movie is now legendary. So how did Matthew himself become infamous? Together with fellow filmmaker Vanessa Yuille, Matthew steps bravely back into the time vortex to bring us a brand-new, full-length documentary: “Doctor Who Am I”. Regular hosts Sarah & Dan are excited to welcome them to Type 40 to preview the film, talk about their friendship and share some of the creative and personal journey they’ve been on to bring it to the screen. | Type 40 • A Doctor Who Podcast #110: The Burn Notice – The End of the World Review | 19 Sep 2022 | 01:32:46
Type 40 • A Doctor Who Podcast Episode 110: The Burn Notice – The End of the World Review Last time we convened to review a classic episode of our favourite TV series, we left the Doctor and his new friend Rose on a cliff-hanger: she'd just ran through the open door of the TARDIS. Leaving boyfriend Mickey and the rest of her life behind. For how long? Turns out it would be millions of years when the story and our Type 40 Club Doctor Who revisits pick-up! Joining our designated driver, Dan again are Wendy and Ian. Along with returning co-host Sarah to look at pivotal episode "The End of the World" from 2005. Listen along as they compare radically different takes on Russell T Davies second script for the series as well as their own memories from the most exciting of Summers: when our show took Great Britain by storm once again. Naturally we're all hoping the returning showrunner can do this again: maybe even better, come Series 14. For now though, here's the latest word from us on "the day the Earth died in a ball of flame". Type 40 • A Doctor Who Podcast Episode 147: With Ian Levine There’s been a massive amount of public interest surrounding Doctor Who since its debut. Association with it has both made and arguably ended fortunes. There are a select set of people who seem inseparable from it. Generally they’re those you’d think! To fellow fans though, he’s perhaps a polarising yet undoubtedly fascinating person. He joins regular hosts Sarah, Simon and Dan for this extended exclusive new interview. Just as he’s wowing the Whoniverse with a brand-new project, to bring the missing episodes back to life. Where do we start? How on Earth could we finish?? What dirt could he dish? The loss of a wonderful performer and warmest screen presence in the lives of generations of British viewers. Who’s work on Doctor Who in particular, has been enjoyed by people the world over… On Thursday 28th July 2022, it was announced Bernard Cribbins OBE, had passed away at the age of 93. Type 40 • A Doctor Who Podcast Episode 103: Opening the JNT Diary with Richard Molesworth Everyone loves the 80’s! Though when it comes to classic Doctor Who history, it’s the period that divides opinion most. Nine seasons were made under enormous pressures, with only one constant presence other than a blue Police Box. And on this edition of Type 40 we look at the legacy of the shows producer, through that time: the late John Nathan-Turner. Regular hosts Simon and Dan welcome back friend of the show, the writer Richard Molesworth. In the very week his latest work “The John Nathan-Turner Doctor Who Production Diary 1979-1990” is released. Richard had access to an unprecedented volume of information to complete his project. Here he gives us the inside story on the how’s, who’s and why’s! Back in the New Year we asked regular listeners what they’d like to hear on our Doctor Who podcast in 2022, through social media. A return visit from Richard was high on the list! So we’re delighted to present a special show previewing this latest must-have book. Episode 99: The Comeback Kids – The Christmas Invasion Review Our Doctor Who podcast returns with the first of a new strand of classic, well new… or is that new-classic(?) reviews of the Time Lords past adventures! Beginning with the extra long episode that began the much-loved Tenth Doctor’s era: The Christmas Invasion. And with rumours persisting for weeks of David Tennant’s return to the role of the Doctor for the 60th anniversary, in one form or another, it seems perfect timing! Dan Hadley is your host and joined by some of the Vortex’s finest, verbose, and playful of pop culture pundits: the screenwriter and director Ian David Diaz and new companion Wendy from the Department of Wendology on YouTube. Journeying back to the final days of 2005 and the barn-storming return to television orchestrated by Russell T Davies: How does the story stand up, all these years and Christmas specials later?! What clues can we get as to what the showrunners return in 2023 could bring? Plus, what do our live audience of companions think of this and those pesky rumours? | Type 40 • A Doctor Who Podcast #98: The Flux Capacity - The Vanquishers Review | 31 Jan 2022 | 01:24:47
Episode 98: The Flux Capacity – Review of The Vanquishers The New Year brings us back together, in the console room here on our Doctor Who podcast to finish off reviews of Series 13 of our favourite TV series. Come and join us for this review of The Vanquishers, as the panel attempt to make sense of the concluding chapter, once again written by Chris Chibnall. Your regular Type 40 host, Dan Hadley welcomes back long-standing co-pilot and founder of the Fandom Podcast Network, Kyle Wagner after a few weeks lost in the vortex! Whilst plucky Charlotte Shields is working the scanner, seeking out plot holes they may have missed. For a season made up of just six instalments, it’s been a testing Time & Space for our reviewers. Though there is a chance it can all come together and deliver on the ambitious story arc of Jodie Whittaker’s final season in the lead role! Isn’t there…? | Type 40 • A Doctor Who Podcast #97: Stuff and Nonsense - Survivors of the Flux Review | 11 Jan 2022 | 01:28:04
Episode 97: Stuff and Nonsense – Survivors of the Flux Review The end is in sight as we review the penultimate episode of Series 13 of Doctor Who, and the season long “Flux” event. And it’s been a bumpy ride so far! Outgoing showrunner Chris Chibnall is once again the sole writing credit on Survivors of the Flux and this hardly fills our panel with optimism… Regular host Dan Hadley welcomes back Charlotte Shields and Tzvi “the Rabbi” Lebetkin to take in the perhaps inevitable doubling-down on that bombshell Timeless Child arc. There must be some signs for optimism with such great talents as Barbara Flynn and Robert Bathurst in the cast though? Like always with our Doctor Who Podcast you get unfiltered, genuine opinions. As free from prejudice as is possible, even on the most divisive episodes of our favourite television series. Buckle up – stream or download our take – here! | Type 40 • A Doctor Who Podcast #96: Village People - Village of the Angels Review | 22 Dec 2021 | 01:40:16
Episode 96: Village People – Village of the Angels Review Re-joining our reviews of the 13th series of Doctor Who as we pass the halfway mark. On this edition of the podcast, we may not be blinking but we’ll be doing plenty of thinking and talking about the return of an iconic villain in Village of the Angels. Simon Horton’s back to accompany regular host Dan Hadley on this jaunt through the only episode of the season not to be written solely by showrunner, Chris Chibnall. Which seems to look to not just past adventures of the Time Lord for inspiration? But classic movies and television shows too. Which ones did it remind YOU of? There’s dry ice everywhere and what kind of stone is this cellar built out of again?
