| Michelle Elman | People Pleasing & Setting Boundaries | 16 Jan 2024 | 00:41:06 | |
Ever found yourself wondering where the line between 'you and me' truly lies? Is a people-pleaser just another word for being ‘nice’? Join Liz and Michelle as they unravel the intricate world of boundaries, opinions, and self-worth in mid-life with the incredible Michelle Elman, a renowned life coach and author. Michelle delves deep into the art of setting boundaries, challenging the belief that self-worth hinges on others' opinions, and revealing the power of embracing discomfort for personal growth. Key Insights: 🎙️ The Self-Esteem & People Pleasing: "Even as a people pleaser, remember, not everyone will approve. When you prioritize others' opinions over your own, it often stems from lacking self-esteem." 🎙️ Defining Boundaries: "Think of boundaries as the line between 'you and me,' defining acceptable treatment. It's crucial, especially for women taught to prioritize others over themselves." 🎙️ Embracing Discomfort: "Setting boundaries isn't about eliminating discomfort or guilt. It's a process. The first time is hardest, but with a clear 'why,' it gets easier. Losing those who resist your boundaries reveals who truly belongs in your life." 🎙️ Nurturing Spousal Relationships: "Explore the importance of open communication and the establishment of clear expectations in spousal relationships to navigate change." | Jane Michell | The Obesity Crisis - What can we do about it? | 09 Jan 2024 | 00:43:26 | |
Join Liz and Michelle in an eye-opening discussion with Jane Michell, the visionary founder of Jane Plan, as she sheds light on the alarming reality of obesity and the urgent need for systemic intervention and education. Jane dives deep into the critical understanding of BMI, highlighting the staggering health repercussions of obesity in the UK and explores the personal responsibilities and societal influences contributing to weight gain. Key Insights: 🎙️ Food Triggers Everywhere: "Our environment bombards us with food triggers, while our biology remains tuned for scarcity, contributing to our constant desire to eat.” 🎙️ The Emotional Connection with Food: "Our emotional bond with weight is fascinating. Unlike overspending on a credit card, a disappointing scale reading often triggers impulsive eating. We've developed an intense link between our weight and our self-worth, forgetting it's just a number, a biological fact." 🎙️ The Alarming Rise in Obesity: “Obesity-related NHS admissions have surged to 3000 daily, doubling in six years. Records show 1.2 million hospitalizations due to obesity, with two-thirds of adults now overweight—costing the NHS a staggering £19.2 billion." 🎙️ Navigating Personal Responsibility: “Just look at the Oprah diet pill scandal, I think we can all agree that fundamentally the diet industry has failed the nation because otherwise we would not be in the state we're in today.” Episode Resources: About Jane Michell: Connect with Jane, the founder of healthy weight loss plan, Jane Plan. hello@janeplan.com | Website: janeplan.com | Instagram: @janeplanuk If you’re considering a weight management plan, use code TWC50 to get £50 off Jane Plan. Liz and Michelle welcome ex Blue Peter presenter, Katy Hill, to their new 'Wendy-house'-style TWC studio in the garden. Katy is a personal development and empowerment coach, speaker, podcaster, BAFTA, and NTA award-winning broadcaster, and writer. She is well known as the daredevil Blue Peter presenter who was the first civilian to fly with the Red Arrows and the first woman to present the Hit40UK show. Katy was tenacious in her goals, badgering the editor of Blue Peter with showreels until she got the audition that kickstarted her remarkable career. Given her achievements, it´s hard to believe that she describes herself as ‘the shy girl’ at school! Overcoming this crippling shyness has inspired her to train extensively as a Personal Development Coach and NLP Practitioner and found LIMITLESS By Katy Hill. She coaches women, empowering them to recognise what they want, then overcome their fears and societal resistance to get exactly that. It's not uncommon that midlife women 'lose' themselves and have less confidence. Life coaches can help their clients get back on track with a gameplan to achieve their goals during our empowering second spring.

| Rosie Green | How to Heal a Broken Heart | 28 Feb 2023 | 00:36:49 | |
Almost everyone has suffered from a broken heart in their lifetime... from that crushing first love loss to longer more mature relationships but rejection during midlife when a relationship breaks down after decades is so devastating with kids, houses, bank accounts, longstanding friends and family all adding to the complexity of a couple uncoupling whether that's by choice or, sadly, not. Liz and Michelle are joined in this episode by Rosie Green, an awarding winning journalist and beauty editor who writes a weekly column in The Mail On Sunday, is a relationships expert on ITV’s This Morning and is the author of the best selling book ‘How To Heal A Broken Heart.' Rosie talks candidly about what she went through after her husband of 26 years suddenly walked out on her and, perhaps more importantly, how she healed. Rosie wrote her brutally honest yet often humorous book to help women in similar positions heal faster and move on. Marian Keyes described it as honest, comforting, and hopeful and Venessa Feltz said it describes what a broken heart actually feels like.
