Dr. Abbie Maroño

157. The Art Of Taking A Chance25 Oct 202200:57:18

“I've found that luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck, take more chances. Be more active. Show up more often.”

-Brian Tracy

I am so excited about this conversation as I am welcoming one of my longtime lacrosse family BFF’s to the T&T mic, Alex Whitworth! Alex is a fellow George Mason University grad, entrepreneur, and mom of 5! Alex grew up in Norther Virginia, went to college there, got married and started a family there, and thought she might spend the rest of her life there, until opportunity arose to make a major move to the US Virgin Island, St. Croix. This is a massive move with a family and a business, but they said yes and took the chance. Alex and I chat about her journey living so far from home, adjusting her family and business, and the importance of relationships and how you treat people- above all else. It’s great to hear how neighbors become friends that become family and your biggest supporters of your business. This is a great convo on inspiration if you are thinking of taking a chance- do it! Trust that if you show with the right energy your surroundings will provide for you in return and it just might be the greatest decision of your life.

Highlights:

Taking a chance! Relationships are everything, care about people and they will care about you. The non-plan plan, but also doing research. Neighbors, friends, family. Jumping out of your comfort zone. Perspective and adjusting to your environment. All the kids, dogs, and planners. Cookies. Community. Consciousness.

Alex Whitworth was born and raised in Northern Virginia, but is currently living her Caribbean dream on the island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands with her family. She grew up with a big family and a love of all sports. She played DI lacrosse at George Mason University, which she believes helped shape who she is not only as a hard-working businesswoman, but also as a mother to five young children.

While staying home with her first two children, she started a hobby of decorating cookies. Thanks to word of mouth and social media, this quickly turned in to a legit business, The Cookie Momster Kitchen, LLC. Today she has a location in Bristow, VA as well as St. Croix, USVI.

156. What Does Unconditional Love Mean?19 Oct 202201:09:58

“Learn to love without any conditions, help without any expectations and to live without any regrets.”

-Anurag Prakash Ray

I am so excited to welcome #fitfam and Founder of Uno Mas Ropa, Anthony Gonzales, to the T&T mic! Uno Mas Ropa is a thriving lifestyle apparel brand rooted in community and support with the mantra, “you can always do one more rep”. This is an amazing conversation about so much more than apparel. Anthony shares his unique and incredible upbringing that inspired him in his personal and professional life. Anthony’s parents took a chance on love very young and chose to believe I others the way they believed I themselves, taking in many foster kids in additional to having their own family. It was not an easy path, but Anthony saw true, unconditional love very early that instilled his own core values that he now shares with the world, through the brand, Uno Mas Ropa. When you think you have nothing left and no one is there, know that people care and we have the t-shirt to prove it and a man behind the brand that will help you up- unconditionally.

Highlights:

Foster families. Unconditional love. Taking the high road and believing. Sharing and knowing it will all come back. Community, support, and asking for what you want. Believing in something bigger. Taking a chance and giving more than you have. CrossFit and the fitness family. Another’s perspective. Racism in America. Keeping the faith.

Anthony Gonzales:

Founder of Uno Mas Ropa and MTN Roofing

Anthony was born and raised in Dallas, TX but has recently made Colorado his home. He specializes in photography, videography, illustration, and design. He had the honor to show his work at the Dallas Museum of Art and had multiple solo shows around Dallas and Denver metro. His main goal is to inspire people to find their creativity. 155. Life's Journey isn't a Straight Line21 Sep 202200:47:23

“When setting out on a journey do not seek advice from someone who never left home.

– Rumi

I am pumped to welcome longtime friend and fellow entrepreneur to the T&T mic, Courtney McRae! Courtney and I reconnected at our 20-year high school reunion few years ago and I have been excited to do this podcast ever since! Courtney has an amazing background in all thing’s food (even working as a pastry chef in Australia), event planning, and currently runs a B&B on a working ranch in Wyoming with her husband Scott. Courtney shares her journey thus far and how letting go of the traditional path led her to finding herself and the ability to consciously pivot, seek good therapy (as we all should), and then create space to let the universe show her that it is indeed working in her favor. This is an awesome convo for anyone learning to let go and keep the faith, we have all been there- and will likely be there again at some point. We have to remember that if we follow our hearts and show as best we can, the plans ahead will be better than anything we could have planned ourselves. This breakdown and breakthrough will be a continuous process our whole lives – keep this podcast and some tequila handy:)

Highlights:

Life’s journey…and some technical difficulties on this podcast, but we stayed in it! Holding on vs. letting go. Hard learned lessons are the best worst. Don’t date someone in a band. Big choices, even when they are not our own. Trusting your gut and giving yourself grace. Fertility after 40 and grow up conversations. Breakdowns, breakthroughs and the continued process of “always learning”.

Courtney McRae

Hello! I’m Courtney, but you can call me “Court.” HoldingCourt.com is a place where I can share what I have learned through my experience as a pastry chef, caterer and event planner… it’s the place where “holding court” with Courtney comes to life. I started noticing that friends and family were coming to me when they had cooking and entertaining questions. I love being able to help, so here we are, “holding court” together to simplify life with easy recipes, tips for entertaining and other things to come.

In 2002, I moved to Sydney Australia for 6 months. I got a job in a fancy French restaurant where I spent most days peeling shallots, chopping herbs, making sauces and prepping salads.

With my new skills in tow, I was back in the US and ready to work in another restaurant. I moved to Boulder and got a job as a pastry chef at The Med. I learned a lot about breads and pastries and spent my days baking up a storm.

Around this same time, I started working in event planning and hospitality, which tied my love of food to my love of entertaining. I continued down this path, which brings us to today… Scott and I run a seasonal B&B on a ranch in Wyoming. All of my entertaining, hospitality, and cooking experiences are put to use every day! Getting our B&B up-and-running also fueled my burgeoning interests in decorating & interior design: it’s safe to say I will always be ready to learn and try new things… and I’ll be ready to share them with you. Thanks for being here to support me: celebrating food, entertaining, and life after 40… with Courtney!

154. How to Retire by 40!14 Sep 202200:39:08

"Retirement is not the end of the road. It is the beginning of the open highway."

–Unknown

This is an awesome conversation about something we are all concerned about, money! I am excited to welcome Tommy Jones to the T&T mic to share his journey and relationship with money. Tommy is a fellow podcaster (How The Hell Are We Friends), entrepreneur, investor… and retired at 34! Tommy shares how he changed his mind set to change his bank account. Like many of us, Tommy grew up with a scarcity mindset around money, but with society’s prescription that we actually need to buy more. This is a great convo for anyone looking to break the cycle and get their money or financial health right. Like any other health approach, it’s not just one thing, it’s the whole human approach. Tommy share tips, tricks, and pro tips on how to level up your financial game, easy ways to start that journey now, and how to recognize the power of the community currently around you to support that overall wellness journey… so you can retire financially early and get on to the next phase of purposeful living.

Highlights:

Financially retiring early. Taking life one step at a time. Living aware and making conscious change. Setting goals, achieving them, and not always having it all figured out. Continuous evolution. The whole human approach. Money, mindset, saving, and being present.

Tommy Jones:

I am a 34-year-old retiree, I accomplished this massive goal in many different ways, most people think it's only about my investing strategy, which I definitely cover on how the hell are we friends podcast, but that was only one aspect. I cover all the topics like mental health, physical health, and different philosophies that have helped my friends and me that I have coached to live a more financially free life. The name of the podcast How the hell are we friends, is also a massive contributing factor to our success. I often speak about ways we can have conversations to understand rather than to win, and in the process, we can walk away with a broader perspective that allows us to understand and navigate in the world we live in a little better.

How The Hell Are We Friends, Podcast

We all want to be understood, but how much time do we spend trying to understand others. We will dive deep into varying perspectives on Growth, Self-improvement, Mindset, Empathy, Wealth, and Financial Literacy with host Tommy Jones and friends. We will discuss thought-provoking topics that will have opposing viewpoints; however, our focus will be on having a conversation to understand rather than a conversation to win.

Beverly Karns:

I'm Beverly and I've been making wholesome and nutritious granola for my family, work-mates and friends for 20 years. My husband has been taking the Cranberry Pecan granola to work for years. I would pop it into the backpacks of my three children to eat after morning practice or before afternoon games - who doesn't love Dark Chocolate Cashew or Apricot Coconut in the afternoon? If they didn't eat it, their friends would. Soon other moms and friends started calling and asking about my tasty little morsels. The clusters were always the first to go, and I found myself making more and more clusters - turning granola into a favorite snack and not just for breakfast. It's vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, made from non-GMO ingredients and organic oats for optimal clean snacking!

It was in the simplicity of the ingredients (you know every ingredient on the back label), nutritionally balanced (nutrient dense with lots of protein and a hint of sweetness), and endless flavor combinations that Tempo was born.

Three flavors- Cranberry Pecan, Apricot Coconut or Dark Chocolate Cashew and Two types - 4oz bags of clusters for an on-the-go snack or 11oz All-Day loose style granola with smaller clusters.

Either way - we've got you covered!

Tempo - a beat of your own - describes all of us, some days fast, some days slow. No matter the day, Tempo is here to serve your snacking and breakfast needs.

What's the Tempo of your life today?

MISSION

My mission is to inspire a healthy body, inquisitive mind, and bold spirit fueled by food consisting of natural ingredients we all grew up eating. Join me to spread awareness that balance is the key to healthy living.

HOLISTIC & WHOLE-ISTIC

Holistic nutrition is all about eating healthy food as close to its whole, natural state as possible for optimum health and well-being. Hallmarks of holistic nutrition include unrefined, unprocessed, organic, and locally grown foods. A healthy immune system starts with what you eat - and Tempo can help!

Tempo granola is handmade in small batches in a granola-only facility (no cross-contamination) in Denver to ensure freshness, quality and ultimate yummy taste!

149. Inspiro Tequila: Mara Smith03 Aug 202200:51:41

“Quality is not an act, it is a habit.”

-Aristotle

More (Inspiro) tequila, please! Yes, we are jumping back into the tequila pool with an awesome, woman owned and operated, emerging brand, Inspiro Tequila. I am so excited for this conversation because Founder, Mara Smith, is beyond intentional with the product and the brand. This is a product for women, by women and is actually clean (completely additive free)! Mara shares her journey thus far in the overly crowded beverage industry, her inspiration behind the name, and the overall mission. She couldn’t find a tequila that met her standards- so she created one. Mara might be newer to the tequila family, but she is making big waves the right way and raising the bar for intentional- mission driven companies (us conscious consumers SO appreciate that:). If you are looking to take a leap in life because you recolonize the opportunity to do something better or your way- this convo is for you. Chase the dream and/or build it!

Highlights:

Representation. Innovation, salvation. Tequila, the beverage industry and taking on a big challenge. Questioning a better way. Chasing the dream and learning the ropes by LOTS of research. Building a team and earning your way up the ladder. Good, quality, mission driven tequila.

Mara Smith is a former attorney, corporate strategist and stay-at-home mom who is the founder of Inspiro Tequila.  Mara began her legal career at a large law firm in Chicago before joining the corporate strategy team at a Fortune 100 Company.  After her twins were born prematurely, Mara decided to leave the corporate world to focus on her family.

She never stopped thinking about what was next.  Mara always envisioned running her own company and in February of 2020 she set out on her journey to create a new tequila brand.

Mara started drinking tequila when she was looking for a clean, gluten-free spirit that fit into her active lifestyle. She searched for a tequila brand that was additive-free with a look, taste and aroma that appealed to her as the consumer. That perfect tequila did not exist, so she decided to create one. The goal was not just to create a one-of-a-kind tequila, it was also to bring another female voice to the spirits industry.  Women are involved in every aspect of Inspiro Tequila's process from creating the taste profiles to getting bottles on the shelves.   As a female founder, Mara’s mission is to inspire and support other women on their entrepreneurial journeys through financial support and mentoring.

147. Answering The Call27 Jul 202200:53:51

“There is a light in this world, a healing spirit more powerful than any darkness we may encounter. We sometimes lose sight of this force when there is suffering, too much pain. Then suddenly, the spirit will emerge through the lives of ordinary people who hear a call and answer in extraordinary ways.”

― Mother Teresa

We all have permission in some capacity- you can call it god, spirit, belief, intuition, or just the voice in your head/heart, but something is always there leading us in the right direction… We just need to listen and answer the call. I am so excited to welcome Melissa Lea Hughes to the T&T mic! Melissa is here for faith, motherhood, and purpose… AND TikTok! You might not think those things go hand in hand, but you are listening to THE Turmeric & Tequila Podcast after all, where you know we are here share real juxtaposition happening amongst our varsity humans, so we can broaden our own horizons and see how most things really do fit together after all. Melissa shares her own story of answering the call that led her to 225k+ TikTok followers, the Kelly Clarkson Show, becoming a best-selling author, and so much more. Melissa is here to share her gifts, lessons, life pro tips, and open our minds to the positive side and OPPORTUNITY that I within social media! If we can live in alignment alongside our core values and share all the gifts that are within for the greater good, why would you not share that with the world? Please do… and tag us so we can walk this journey with you:)

Highlights:

The upside of social media. Answering the call, even If you are not clear on the how. Belief, intuition, living our truth. Mental health, mental wealth. Living in alignment of our core values. Sharing our gifts. Believing in something bigger and questioning a better way. Taking the leap. Letting the social media cringe factor go. Seeing opportunity. Expression.

Melissa Lea Hughes:

Back in 2020, I lost my job due to Covid. It was the first time in my life I didn't have a plan. I had no idea what was next, no career opportunities on the horizon or what I even really wanted to do. I felt totally stuck and had no idea what I was going to do. Then, in February of 2021, I downloaded this popular app TikTok and uploaded a random video of my kids sledding. The next morning, I woke up, I had thousands of followers and the video had thousands of views. Over the next few weeks that video gained 22 million views! I discovered the impact of how powerful this platform was.

I decided I should keep posting and see what happens. In 6 months, I grew my account to over 150,000 followers. During that time, I got a phone call from The Kelly Clarkson Show. They asked me to come on and do two segments. I was floored! A few months later, I was contacted by a publisher and they asked to create a children's book out of one of my TikTok's! What's even crazier is, I did all of this while working a full-time job and recording my TikTok's on my lunch break in my car. Yes, in my car. Nearly all of them. I truly believe that if I can grow a following like that while being a wife, mother, friend, serving at church and working a full-time job - you absolutely can do it too! And you should!

I understand what it feels like to put yourself out there and the fear that comes with it. Even the awkwardness of figuring out how to be in front of the camera. Not only that, It can feel so overwhelming learning another social media platform and wondering if it's even worth your time. Let me tell you, it DEFINITELY IS.

With my coaching program, I will help you...

-Find YOUR voice and reach your ideal audience on the platform

-Help you overcome the fear of the camera

-Utilize TikTok as your main social media platform to grow all your other platforms

-Create viral TikTok videos with my tested blueprint

146. Monetizing Your Passion20 Jul 202200:44:29

“You are one decision away from a totally different life.”

-Mel Robbins

There has been SO much growth in the “personal brand building” industry… meaning social media stars (influencers), small businesses, athletes, coaches, parents, podcasters, authors… pretty much everyone is looking to grow their voice/reach in some capacity AND make money doing it. This is not a bad thing and with an abundance mindset (over 11 billion humans in this world, lots to go around) and a core values driven mission and compass- it is possible to actually make money doing what you love, being your authentic self, making the world a better place for it.

Building your brand and voice, especially on social media has been an evolving landscape- no one really knows the rules as it changes so fast. There are negatives to all of this over exposure and minimal regulation, but with intention, you can see social media and an awesome opportunity to connect with people, share your voice, and do whatever it is you love- and get paid to do it.

On this podcast it is just you and I and I am going to breakdown how you can bypass agencies to create your own mutually beneficial partnerships for the long term. This means sponsors, partners, supporters, advertisers- companies that are paying you to align with your brand, the right way. I breakdown how to do this step by step, why it’s important that you establish and maintain these relationships yourself, and how to think bigger and do what you are actually meant to be doing. You are already a brand ambassador for your favorite things, you might as well as formalize this process, companies are already looking for their authentic lovers- so take control and go get them!

Highlights:

Monetizing your passion, the right way. A new age of marketing and actual genuine endorsement. Believing in yourself and your voice. Questioning a better way. How you already are a brand ambassador. Recognizing your value. The upside to social media. Graceful disruption, it’s a new day. Take control of your value, energy, power, and gifts.

145. Balancing Family06 Jul 202200:37:15

“Families are like branches on a tree. We grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.”

- Unknown

Balancing family… this can mean so many things:) As we get older and become individuals, family can be one of the toughest, and of course most important relationships to find balance in. Sometimes you just can’t and you need to do your own thing, boundaries, as discussed on many T&T podcasts are so real… but hopefully, with a little work, awareness, and respect, from all sides, you can find a balance and maintain a relationship that is like no other. I am so excited to welcome Samantha Porter Grinney to the T&T mic! Samantha hails from the high-end fashion world, is a fellow podcaster (Samantha’s West), mom, and is what I would consider, a master at balancing family- especially with a very out of the box family and lifestyle herself. Samantha shares her journey, her family setup, and how she manages it all, even when some situations might be super tough. This is a great one for everyone- because we can all get better at acceptance, boundaries, awareness, and intentional growth… for ourselves, our families, and the world around us!!

Highlights:

Family and being an individual. Boundaries, awareness, respect, perspective, and acceptance. Going to therapy for those that don’t. Priorities, friendships, and letting go. Less is more. Tough conversations, honesty, and tequila. Doing what is best for you and letting some things play out.

Samantha Porter Grinney:

Samantha's West was founded as a resource to supply you with entertainment and interviews with philanthropic and entrepreneurial guests. Samantha also reflects on outrageous family stories, journeys, memories, and the latest pop culture gossip. Samantha worked in the fashion and luxury market for over 15 years.  She received her sociology degree from Marymount Manhattan College, as well as completed a Broadcast Journalism program at the University of Miami. Samantha and her husband Michael reside in Jacksonville Beach, Florida with their son West and twins Dillon and Alexis.

There is no better time than right now to start a business! You don’t need to quit your day job to chase the dream, have a bunch of money to start, or even a hard 5-year plan! Sabina and Casey share their journey thus far- the how, the why, and the end game! This is a great conversation if you are looking to start your own thing, whatever it may be. Start small and use all the things at your immediate fingertips, including social media, friends, and family! Thanks Sabina and Casey, can’t wait to see how the company and the cause grows!!

142. Dear Single Mothers14 Jun 202200:55:38

“Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving, we get stronger and more resilient.”
― Steve Maraboli

All my single mother’s, this one is for you!

I am pumped to welcome Vicki Severson to the T&T mic! Vicki was a teen mom who turned tragedy into triumph and took on the world to create her own path. This path has been an eclectic one- Vicki’s experience runs from banking, being an EMT, journalists, a model, a sports radio personality, a paranormal investigator, and a tornado chaser- but most importantly, a mom. Vicki is now a successful business owner of Buckshot Productions with a mission of hiring all single moms. Vick’s states, “I want to show all of these women who don’t see their worth, that you can build from a pile of ash. You can have nothing and make something beautiful and successful when you believe there are no limits.” This is an awesome and inspirational conversation for ANYONE facing adversity, Vicki is here to tell you and prove to you that you are resilient and capable, just keep the faith and keep showing up- just like she did. Let’s go!

Highlights:

Facing adversity and building resilience. Not knowing the path, but trusting in it. Breakdown, breakthrough, believing. Marketing, branding, and video. Trail blazing and the hard days. Single mom’s, society, and disrupting stereotypes.

Vicki Severson:

Founder of Buckshot Media, Vicki Severson, has walked the low roads and risen to success and now she’s on a mission to help other women reach their wildest dreams.

Vicki was a teen mom. Her daughter’s father left her on her knees in the driveway of her childhood home one night when she was 17. She was 8 months pregnant and watched him drive away, leaving her to raise her daughter, Kimberly by herself.

“I remember standing in the welfare line. I was 17, wearing an oversized dress from Goodwill. I wouldn't look anyone in the eye but I could feel them staring at me. Judging me. Hating me,” she recalls.

“The day I took Kimberly home from the hospital at two days old, I watched happy families taking their babies home in minivans, to white picket fences. I started to pity myself, to feel unworthy, but then I looked down at my new baby girl and I promised her in that moment, that I would never let us be a pity case. We would defy the odds and show the world that a teen mom and her child can be just as successful as anyone else, and we were.”

Having no choice but to drop out of high school, she earned her GED and went straight into working full-time as a bank teller for Wells Fargo at 18. While her friends were at Prom, she was working 12-hour days and teaching herself the ins and outs of banking. She worked her way up in banking, and became a Branch Manager, managing 14 bank employees by the age of 22. The journey of trailing blazing from there with a move to rural Brush, CO and working in journalism, tornado chasing, and investigating the paranormal!

These days, Vicki produces a reality show for the Sportsmans Channel which she films with her boyfriend and business partner, Mark Leffingwell. The duo works with names such as Duck Dynasty and Black Rifle Coffee collaborating on social media and television episodes.

Vicki’s goal is to hire a team of single moms to run her company Buckshot Media in order to show them their worth and capabilities and give them the foundation to chase their dreams.

Vicki is also a survivor of domestic violence and is writing a course to help women escape abusive relationships and rebuild their lives from scratch as she has on multiple occasions.

141. Single AND Happy?!07 Jun 202200:58:43

“Happiness is not an ideal of reason, but of imagination.”

-Immanuel Kant

It is hard to believe that society’s prescription for true happiness, “go to school, graduate, find a job, get married, have kids, retire” impacts the mindset as we get older- even when we know better. The lifelong exposure and deep (intention or unintentional) grip to these ideologies are strong. From day one we are bombarded with messages on how you should live and what should make you happy…

The problem is that most people aren’t happy. A study by NORC at the University of Chicago finds that just 14% of American adults say they're very happy (2020, NBC News).

Marriage (or a committed relationship) is a MAJOR step in that happiness prescription- where it’s no longer just about ourselves and our journey. SO, I am excited to welcome Dr. Peter McGraw to the T&T mic to unpack this conversation around that pivot point going from single to married and how maybe not everyone wants to pivot that way and in turn, deeply impacts our happiness as we know it.

Dr. McGraw is an expert in the interdisciplinary fields of judgment, emotion, and choice with a Ph.D. in quantitative psychology from The Ohio State University. You have recently seen him on the Today Show with Maria Schriver as well as a guest on The Joe Rogan Show and a contributor to major publications such as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. McGraw is a fellow podcaster, his show, The Solo Life,  is a single person’s guide to a remarkable life.

McGraw states, “More and more people are becoming aware that marriage is an overprescribed path to a good life. An observation reflected in rapidly changing demographics. One-hundred and twenty-eight million American adults are unmarried, and 25% of Millennials are projected to never marry.”

Marriage is a wonderful thing IF that is authentically what you want. This is an awesome conversation about challenging status quo and getting to the roots of what actually makes us happy and further normalizing the idea of a solo life! If you feel like the weird one, always know you are not the only one haha… there is a whole community out there waiting for ya!

Highlights:

The solo life. Read the stats if you don’t believe us. Challenging status quo. Core values, self-care, and getting to actually know yourself. Maybe your ideal is somewhere in-between. Love. Faith. Following your heart. Communication and expectations. Nurture vs. nature. A new wave of happy.

Peter McGraw:

McGraw is an expert in the interdisciplinary fields of judgment, emotion, and choice. His research has answered questions, such as “How do feelings affect the ways people spend money?,” “Can people feel happy and sad at the same time?,” and, “Why does the TSA suck?”

His work has appeared in Management SciencePsychological ScienceJournal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing ResearchJournal of Personality and Social Psychology, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.

McGraw received a B.A. in psychology and M.Ed. in educational psychology from Rutgers University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in quantitative psychology from The Ohio State University. His post-doctoral training was conducted at Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School, where he was mentored by Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman.

140. Establish or Build Your Idea/Brand/Business NOW, For FREE!31 May 202200:16:44

“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

The upside to that pandemic was some clarity… clarity on what is important and clarity on where we want to ACTUALLY spend our time. So many people were forced into a job or profession switch and so many people we forced to innovate in the given circumstances. No part of this shove in a new direction is easy, but ideally the clarity and innovation further put most of us on the right path. Many realized their current 9-5 wasn’t for them and they took a leap. Humans are creative and creating is what we do- for money, but importantly for our soul/mental health. If you have an idea, are an aspiring entrepreneur, creator, or anywhere in between, the first step in the hardest. I have put together some really easy, quick, and free steps to just get started and take that step #1. I started my first business over 20 years ago and we had almost none of these options, so take advantage of what is out there and just try. There is so little to lose and so much to gain. It’s never a perfect time to chase the dream, but at least it’s a little easier now days to throw some creativity at the wall and see what sticks.

Dreams, entrepreneurs, idea chasers, here is how to start now…

5 Steps to start your idea/brand:

  1. Identify your mission, vision, and values. I highly suggest you do your personal core values before anything else à  HERE
  2. Design your logo and buy your website domain (if you don’t have the $ for the domain now, skip to next step)
  3. Stickers and swag (stickers: buy a small batch with logo on amazon and setup a free brand apparel store on Printful or anyone like them)
  4. Secure all social media outlets with your handle (IG, FB, TikTok, etc)
  5. ABB: Always be branding. Be your #1 ambassador. Start simple!

More details on the podcast, cheers!

138. Pallets For Ukraine03 May 202200:40:12

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing.”

-Edmund Burke

There is a LOT going on in our world right now and a major piece of our current heartbreak has to do with the situation going on in Ukraine. Like many of you, I have felt helpless watching the news seeing innocent people being attacked and forced to fight or flee their homeland. It’s impossible to believe that such a thing can even exists in 2022. My heart is full however, to see local humans of Denver, CO doing what they can to be proactive, to be “helpers”.

I am so excited to welcome Johnathan McFarlane to the T&T mic… true story, I have known Johnathan since elementary school and saw him and his mission, Pallets For Ukraine, on the news. So, I of course dropped him a note on Facebook (cuz that’s what adults do:) and we got to talking from there. Johnathan shares his motivation to just jump in and do something, how he got started, how his whole family is working together to make theses awesome flags and give back EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR that comes in to the people of Ukraine. This is an awesome story of proactive initiative to help someone else and somehow it comes back to serve you. I don’t fully know what this world needs, but I do know it’s more of that. Johnathan thanks for shining some super hero qualities and leading the way- no doubt us fellow Americans are proud of your work, especially that awesome kiddo if yours!! Check out https://palletsforukraine.com/ , to see how you can get your flag or start a similar initiative wherever you are located!

Highlights:

To give is to receive. Being a helper and doing it with pride. Something bigger than ourselves. Keeping the faith and doing what you can because it all matters in the end. Elementary school, 90’s singers, and caring about the next generation. Facts about Ukraine and major props to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s current President. The impacts of war. Being useful. Plan-less, but hopeful… sometimes you just have to figure it out as you go!

Pallets For Ukraine

We made donations to NGOs that are assisting the humanitarian crisis, but that’s not enough. Pallets for Ukraine is our avenue to multiply our efforts, allow others to show their support, and provide help to those that need it most.

Pallets for Ukraine is a family project started by a Grandpa, Son, and Granddaughter in Denver, Colorado. We collect pallets, disassemble them, and turn them into Ukrainian flag yard signs. The signs are then sold with 100% of the money raised being donated to several different charities working in Ukraine. All the materials we use are donated, so every dime raised goes to help the Ukrainian people. The only cost is our time, which we are proud to give!

Funds go to: International Rescue Committee, Project Dynamo, Airbnb

137. How To Manage Our Evolving Identity26 Apr 202200:26:05

“We know what we are, but not what we may be.”
― William Shakespeare

What happens when we lose our identity aka who we think we are? Identity change can happen over time or in an instant: a marriage, a divorce, an injury, becoming a parent or losing someone close to you, a significant financial gain or loss- anything that changes the way we walk through this world, regardless if we made that choice to change or not. What do we when our self-beliefs are rattled at our core?

It is a fact that our identity will change greatly over the years, so here is your heads up if you haven’t experienced this already:). When something changes us permanently, it’s a radical internal struggle to fully comprehend that our world will not be as it once was. We are not prepared for this as humans and we innately lack the skills to navigate this process. I first experienced the loss of my own identity in college when I tore my ACL my sophomore year and I couldn’t play lacrosse for the time being. I was a lacrosse player- if I didn’t play lacrosse, then who am I? This was no easy process for my 18-year-old self nor when it happened again later on in life, thus I am excited to have this conversation with Emily Coffman. Emily is the author of “Elite to Everyday Athlete: 9 Steps to Getting Off The Sidelines of Life”, a former D-1 athlete, and fellow podcaster. Emily is passionate about living her best life and that includes managing her evolving identity. I love that this conversation is happening with our 20-somethings, you all are way ahead of the game… because as you know, our identity will continue to evolve as life moves forward, so knowing how to manage the process is a valuable, lifelong skill. Enjoy this cast on how to manage those identity changes and really let go of all the boxes we put ourselves into in the first place!

Highlights:

Managing your evolving identity. What to do when life changes? Letting go of control and surrendering to the process. Self-care and personal evolution. Mental and physical health. Living your best life. Marketing and branding. College sports and life post competitive athletics. Knowing the best is yet to come.

Emily Coffman

Emily Coffman is the fastest growing advocate for athlete wellness in life after sport. She is a former NCAA Division I Athlete in rowing from the University of Oklahoma. She was awarded OU Student Athlete of the Year in her senior year and was on the Big XII All-Academic Team all four years. Now, she is the creator of the top health and fitness podcast, Live Your Personal Best which has over a quarter of a million downloads and author of Elite to Everyday Athlete. Her research and focus on the health of athletes after they leave the field, has led her to become one of the leading experts for athletes to learn how to live a healthy life, enjoy working out, and find their life outside of sport.

136. Kindness vs. Boundaries20 Apr 202200:10:20
“No" is a complete sentence.”

― Annie Lamott

Baby, it’s just you and I today! Kindness vs. boundaries- we need both, but what is the balance? This is a quick love note from me to you (and to myself) to PROTECT YOUR MAGIC aka use boundaries, they are kindness to yourself. Today I unpack the literal definitions of kindness, boundaries, and personal boundaries. Relationships are one of the great gifts in life and we need to communicate when things are ok and not ok with ourselves. Trust your body/gut accordingly and draw a line where need be, this is your permission to do so! All relationships will be stronger with boundaries (and of course kindness). The more we talk about boundaries and create safer spaces for our hearts to march forward, the more kindness we will have to offer those around us. Especially the ones we care about most.

Highlights:

Kindness vs. Boundaries. It’s not about you, it’s about me. Protecting your magic to share more if it with the right people. Deeper self-understanding = deeper human connection. Communication, elevation, renovation. Being the example. Self-care. Tradition, expectation, and managing societal pressure. Do you.

135. How To Fall Back In Love06 Apr 202200:37:35

“Let your love be your guide. Let your courage be your driver, and let your passion be your road to enjoy this magnificent life to the fullest.”

– Debasish Mridha

I LOVED this conversation! I am so excited to welcome Annett Bone to the T&T mic! Annett is an entrepreneur, marketing professional, fellow podcaster, but most significantly, a lifelong dance performer. Anyone that is deeply passionate about anything will relate to Annett’s story. When we are young, we follow our little heart’s desires and chase what makes us happy. As we grow we can’t help but be conditioned by the environment around us, our own thoughts, responsibilities, and just life in general. It’s so easy to let our passions fade away for a variety of reasons or really, excuses. Annett shares her journey in dance and falling back in love with the passion that she left for 20+ years, that made and saved her life. Annett exemplifies how important it is that we maintain these passions and gifts as we grow because they are major pieces to our own souls, but almost more importantly, they positively impact the way we walk through this world. In turn, making the world a better place one shared positive vibe at a time. Your first love does not need to be a human, in fact, it’s probably not. You were born a complete human before any external relationship ever existed. So, fill your passion cup accordingly and watch how the world and relationships around your change for the better. Your other soul mate will appreciate it.

Highlights:

Passions over paychecks, but if you do it right, you can have both. Being out of alignment to get into alignment. Movement is medicine. Internal and external validation. Getting back to your young self. Madonna, Janet, and the rest of my BFF’s. Inspiration. Dedication. Trailblazing. Falling back in love.

Annett Bone:

At an age when most people have given up on their dreams, Annett Bone decided to give herself a do-over.

Inspired by Emerson's idea that "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment," Annett determined to do whatever it takes to live an uncommon life.

Embracing that philosophy, Annett lost almost 100lbs, overcame depression, started a podcast on dance and mindset that's heard around the world, and started performing ballet and contemporary dance on stage, and in various creative projects such as film and site-specific work.

Annett’s inspirational story of returning to dance after a 20+ year hiatus at the age of 43, and persevering through hardship encourages people that you already have everything it takes to live your best and brightest life and that it is never too late to be great. She gives simple and actionable advice that helps people get consistent wins and stay encouraged on their journey.

“I don’t want to be a supermodel; I want to be a role model.”
- Queen Latifah

I am so excited to welcome Chris Pratt to the T&T Mic! Today Chris is going to be sharing his personal and professional experience around diversity and inclusion in the IT world. Chris has a wealth of experience in the IT world, but really was an engineer at a young age. He is a fellow podcaster (2 podcasts) and financial enthusiasts, passionate about teaching all people about financial literacy. Chris talks about the importance of representation and the fact that if you are one of a few that look like you in a particular field, it’s probably a good idea to embrace the opportunity to be the example! Chris shares his successes and challenges and some pro tips on how to navigate a field with a lack of diversity. He has done so much at a young age and is just getting started, to say the least. From IT to entrepreneurship to leadership- keep your eyes out for this human. He is a change maker and goal chaser AND an excellent role model for us all!

Highlights:

Diversity and inclusion. Representation. Being the role model. Accepting responsibility. Questioning a better way. IT. Growing up. Goals and aspiration.

133. Coach's Corner: Possibility Mindset (In 5 Minutes)08 Mar 202200:04:52
“Wishes are possibilities. Dare to make a wish.”
-Lailah Gifty Akita

Hi Guys, this is a quick Coach’s Corner episode today- under 5 minutes! With all that is going on in the world right now, I thought it was a good time to get our minds right and send whatever positive energy we have to the country of Ukraine! It’s unbelievable that we can even “go to war” in this day in age, but we are here. Anytime you see or experience something unbelievable, you have to know that the opposite is possible in that same extreme fashion. Meaning, we didn’t think a war could happen again, so know that on the flip side, all the positive things that seem impossible to achieve, can also happen. Bottom line, keep the faith and believe in miracles. Anything is possible, especially if we can see what we believe! Here is a little exercise to achieve and maintain that “Possible Mindset”.  This is a SIMPLE exercise to can do in under 1 minute and multiple times a day. Keep your mind focused, optimistic, and hopeful… life will come at us fast, let’s control what we can. To all Ukrainians and anyone directly impacted by the invasion, we are with you and praying for you!!

See it. Think it. Share it.

Highlights:

Dream, believe, achieve. Keep it simple, stupid (KISS). Thoughts and prayers to Ukraine. The mind, body, energy connect. Controlling what we can. Believing in larger order and keeping the faith. Conscious thinking and disruption of negative mind thought patterns.

132. 50 Regrets Everyone Has Over 5023 Feb 202201:01:59

“Of all the words of mice and men, the saddest are, "It might have been.”

― Kurt Vonnegut

50 regrets everyone has over 50!?! Ok, well maybe not everyone, or at least I hope not, but this is the title of the article that we are breaking down today!! This conversation was inspired by a running theme I was seeing in my life and the humans around me… being all consumed by one thing. Aka no balance. You can’t change something until you address it, so this is my message to you, me, and the universe, let’s acknowledge the lack of balance and get back into flow. Too often we are all overwhelmed by the things we want or the things we need to do: make money, make more money, find a spouse, have a baby, graduate college, win the championship, change the world, find a liquor store, again, etc. We think if we can get that one thing, all will be well in life. We have tunnel vison in waiting this thing and lose sight of all the impact and this one focus is costing us. Then we achieve/get/receive that thing… and we are on to the next ONE THING!! #breakthecycle . This is an awesome survey of people over 50 and their most common regrets. It doesn’t matter what age you are, these is a tangible and proven reasons (regrets) to slow down and evaluate your true priorities right now. Balance the intentional movement through this world with the respect of the Universe’s/God’s/ Madonna’s time clock. At the end of the day all that matters is how we treat each and ourselves. If we prioritize those things first, all else will shake out. Let’s go!

131. Hi, I'm Kristen M. Olson16 Feb 202200:53:16

“I wouldn’t have turned out the way I was if I didn’t have all those old-fashioned values to rebel against.”

– Madonna

Hi Guys, a fun one today… it’s just you and me! It’s been 130 episodes and I thought I would reintroduce myself. I am actually going to do this every year as we change so much and don’t even realize it if we don’t pause to deeply reflect. I know you tune if for my FABOLOUS guests, but you might be wondering why I started this podcast,  where I came from, and what’s my real experience? All valid questions. So, I share the quick-ish version of my personal and professional background, why I am doing what I am doing and what the single BEST thing I have ever done to positively impact my entire life and perspective. I’ll give you a hint, it has to do with CORE VALUES. At this point I have been the captain of every team I have ever competed on, competed at the top of every sport I’ve ever competed in, and worked with most of the “largest and most successful” fitness, athletic, health, and wellness companies out there. There is really only one thing I continue to learn; true fulfillment only comes from understanding and valuing one’s self- from within. I hope my journey thus far can be an example of that and I can in turn provide some of my learnings to help you understand and value your own self even more. I am so excited to partner with my favorite values preference indicator assessment creators (CRG) to make the assessment available to you and I will have easy and accessible courses coming out for you, your family, your team, and your business to help determine and establish your core values. Knowing your core values will make EVERY decision moving forward that much easier and clearer- I promise:) Enjoy this one and feel free to hit me with any additional questions haha.

Highlights:

Core values. Breakdown and breakthrough. Trials, tribulations, and success. The universe conspiring to teach you and prepare you for what you need to know for RIGHT NOW. Planning to not have a plan. Learning, evolving, and being ready. Conscious conversation. Conscious consumerism. Conscious living. Questioning a better way. Keeping the faith. Trust. The. Process.

130. The Happiness Mentor09 Feb 202201:15:15

“Deep down in everything we do, we are always in the pursuit of happiness.”

-Karyn Seitz

Today we discuss all things HAPPINESS! What is happiness? Where do we find it or how do we create it? I welcome longtime health and wellness professional, Karyn Steiz, to the T&T mic to share her journey in the pursuit of her own happiness. Karyn is a longtime coach and teacher that has help guide hundreds to reveal their own answers from within, including herself. This is an amazing conversation for anyone seeking happiness, aka the human condition (so yes that’s all of us!). Karyn breaks down her own trials and tribulations that can aid in our process and even provides immediate, FREE steps that you can do right now to find your own alignment with your own happiness path! Karyn and I challenge the idea of being a “badass”- whether branding or forced internal beliefs, and why it’s so important to lean into and appreciate your authentic self, regardless of how you label it. The best things that you can do are to invest in yourself and appreciate exactly who you are, in turn happiness (your truth) will reveal itself. Cheers to 2022 and all things personal responsibility. We must align within before we can fully, positively impact anything outside of ourselves.

. . .

Karyn Seitz

As a woman, Karyn thought she had to be more than who she was to achieve the things she wanted in life.

She was always seeking answers in therapy, yoga, meditation, and self-help books.

She didn’t realize this path of seeking was causing her to be unhappy and feel like she wasn’t enough.

This is Karyn’s story:

Karyn graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a degree in Integrative Healthcare. In 2013, she began her practice to help people heal themselves based upon her spiritual journey.

Even though she was helping others, Karyn felt stalled in her own life and work. She knew she needed a new path and direction.

In 2015 Karyn fortuitously met her mentor, who opened her up to a whole new way of experiencing life. She learned how to develop a relationship with herself and find meaning and purpose within.

Karyn is now happy and feels fulfilled within herself and her life. She is passionate about helping other women discover who they are and find happiness within themselves.

Karyn calls herself The Happiness Mentor and teaches an online happiness course for women called Awakened Grace.

129. Coach's Corner: KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)02 Feb 202200:19:52

“Know where you stand so the rest of the world sees where you are.”

-Kristen M. Olson

New T&T Cast Up: 129. KPIs   COACH’S CORNER   Today I will be addressing KPIs, Key Performance Indicators. A performance indicator or key performance indicator is a type of performance measurement. KPIs evaluate the success of an organization or of a particular activity in which it engages (Source: Wikipedia). I will unpack the formal definition and make up of KPIs as they are great to keep the business in order and on mission. The problem with KPIs, like statistics, is that they don’t tell the whole truth. The numbers never lie, but there is not measurement for many key details that keep you on path to success- leadership, hustle, commitment, drive, enthusiasm, transparency, and so many more. We can spend days on this for business application, but I want to focus on personal KPIs today. How do you measure your success? Is it the same way the world does for you, via resume, awards, certificates, weight lifted or lost, degrees, etc? What about all the in between, all the things in life you deem as major accomplishments that the rest of the world might not even know, but prove you have massive skill sets outside of what the resumes show?   Let people in, share your whole truth, and highlight all the gold stars that few know about, but truly qualify you for the next big step (personally or professionally). If you don’t share ALL the applicable skills you are undervaluing yourself and likely missing compensation and more importantly, IMPACT.   Quick exercise on our website to identify and implement your own KPIs on our site, click link below: T&T CC Exercise: Personal KPIs   In 2022, don’t do more, share more. You are already enough.

Highlights:

KPIs. Stats. Applied meaning= reality. Disrupting reality by telling your truth. Defining, highlighting, and sharing all of our success points, personally and professionally. How the personal and professional worlds overlap. Humanizing your own brand aka life. Questioning a better way and letting people in. Knowing where you stand so the rest of the world sees where you are.

“The price of greatness is responsibility.”

― Winston Churchill

Happy New Year- we are HERE! That means you know what time it is… time to welcome back BFF and fellow business boss, Ashley Knight, to the T&T mic to do our annual “Year In Review” podcast! Ashley and I have been very intentional about personal evolution over that past couple years and I have even leaned specifically into mission driven humans for my business, KO Alliance, LLC and this podcast, of course. SO, I wanted recap 2021 and then really highlight our personal intentions and goals for 2022. Given the current landscape of our world, there is no better time than now to fully embrace personal responsibility and all the things we CAN control.  This is not about religion, politics, or resolutions, it’s about facilitating an attainable, sustainable, intentional, and inspiring vision for ourselves as individuals. If we can all dial ourselves in individually, perhaps collectively we can move the world in the right direction. We hope that the T&T Review + Preview: Intentions/ Goals Worksheet below offers you an opportunity to pause for your own self-reflection and intentions for this gift we call time, in this new year! Cheers, XO.

Highlights: Popping bottles… sort of. Balance, personal responsibility, happiness, growth, evolution, and accountability. 2021, mostly 2022. Current events, hope, aspirations, and choice. Selfcare, pro tips, and community. Good laughs, good friends, good grace:)

Steve is a long-time health and wellness professional working with all levels and arenas from personal training, to collegiate sports, to the pros. Steve equally emphasizes the focus on the mental and the physical heath, passionate about broadening the perspectives of his clients to truly achieve wellness, the right way. We, as humans, are getting more and more conscious as consumers and are seeing a multitude of new options to questions a better way- especially around our health. 125. Redefine Your Leadership05 Jan 202200:33:00

“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.”

– Peter F. Drucker, author and educator

Happy New Year! Let’s go 2022… even if you are listening to this throughout the year, there is no better time to dial in and redefine your own leadership! I am so excited to once again be aligning with my longtime friend and fellow entrepreneur, Jessica Crow. Jesscia is the Founder of Apogy and an expert in change management! Jessica invited me on to Apogy’ December’s live event, Redefine Your Leadershipand I loved it so much, I had to release it as a podcast to kick off the new year.

This year in life and on T&T, I am going to be focusing on personal responsibility, evolution, and leadership- for mission driven humans specifically. The state of the world has fully inspired us to take hold of our own lives and be the change that we want to see everywhere else. We have to cease control in so many areas, because the reality is we have none. So, we will focus on what we CAN control: ourselves and our actions that in turn inspire and lead others. No matter how big or small you might think your impact is, people are watching and are influenced more that you know. Join Jessica and myself in accepting the responsibility in our everyday actions and leadership and shifting the perspective around that responsibility to an exciting one. Know that just by working to be your flawed, authentic self, you can inspire someone else to do the same. Collectively, we just might gain some control on the uncontrollable:). Cheers to a great new year and time spent on a worthy cause, you. XO.

This one is a video, so be sure to check us out on You Tube!

Highlights:

KO being interviewed this go around! Change management, leadership, mission driven humans. Taking control, responsibility, and being excited about it. Influencers IRL. New year, same you, it’s already enough. Recognizing opportunity. Evolution and self-care. Diversity and inclusion. Authenticity and attitude. Knowing that every good thing came from change.

Jessica Crow is the founder of Apogy, a change management training, coaching, and consulting firm based in Denver, Colorado.  Jessica started Apogy in 2019 after 16 years of successfully leading change and transformation for top companies including DaVita, Prologis, and Accuvant (now Optiv). During this time, Jessica started teaching yoga, where she developed a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection and how to help people experience positive, lasting change Apogy is the culmination of this knowledge, combined with best practices and proven strategies for achieving change success.

Video Details:

The replay for Apogy’ December’s live event, Redefine Your Leadership, is now available on YouTube! 124. The Vibe Attracts The Tribe22 Dec 202101:14:34

"The nutritional, mental, physical and spiritual components of a person’s life must act synergistically for growth to occur... "

-Darryl Cohen

I am so PUMPED to welcome longtime friend and biz bud, Darryl Cohen to the T&T Mic! Darryl, a mission driven consumer packaged goods operations expert, and I met years ago at a CrossFit event and casually exchanged cards about a brand he was working with at the time. We have done several projects since then and have run into each other at different national events- it’s a small health and wellness world, ha. BUT really, mission driven humans seem to always find each other! You know you are doing something right if you have people like Darryl in your world working alongside you. Darryl and I have had many deep convos way beyond nutrition and wellness: whole body and whole mind approaches to walking through life as a varsity human. It’s not an easy path, as discussed here,  but if you surround yourself with the right people and intentionally show up, things just might start to work out for you and good will come your way. It’s never simple, but always worth it. Darryl shares his journey thus far and all that he is looking forward to personally and professionally. He shares many wise words and life pro tips, grab a pen and be ready to catch some power vibes!

Highlights:

Questioning a better way. Teamwork, dream work. Mission driven humans. Vibes, tribes, and living intentionally. Mico vs. macro perspectives. Start with self to make real change. Clean eating and thinking. Balance and do the best you can, while having fun. Taking punches. Learning life lessons. Seeking joy and living in gratitude.

Darryl Cohen:

Board Certified Holistic Nutritionist

Darryl Cohen has been interested in nutrition and fitness since a young age. After moving to Colorado from the East Coast nine years ago, Darryl worked as a manager at kickboxing gym. During that time, he noticed something strange. Many of his clients, while motivated, were missing something from their health and fitness routine. For some, a high-intensity workout was no sweat, until they got home and started snacking. For others, they had no problem making the right food choices, but lacked confidence in the gym. For many more, Darryl saw a fundamentally broken relationship with health and fitness. It was for this reason Darryl decided to establish Catalyst Colorado.

Darryl adopted a multifaceted approach to nutritional coaching, incorporating three distinct pillars: science, psychology and spirituality. In his experience, he discovered one or more of these pillars are neglected during nutrition and fitness endeavors. This neglect creates imbalances and becomes unsustainable in the long-term. Darryl adopts a wholistic approach from day one, helping others reach their goals by focusing on repairing their relationship with food, and he is here to help those around him achieve the lasting physical and spiritual transformation they themselves know they’re capable of.

123. Online Dating #WTF14 Dec 202101:30:46

“If We Meet Offline and You Look Nothing Like Your Pics, You’re Buying Me Drinks Until You Do.”

-Anonymous

This is a fun, necessary one! I am excited to welcome Anjelica Roman, longtime great friend and #FitFam, to the T&T mic! Anjelica is a marketing professional in Colorado, like myself. Unlike me, she is a dating pro- or at least I think so! She speaks the language of the dating apps and has had success (and some fails) navigating the “singles” waters of digital Denver and beyond. I am newer to the game and have called Anjelica to help me read between the lines or straight up translate on several occasions- so I knew we need to podcast about this. In 2021 everything is digital, even love… or relationships on any level. I am one to go with evolution and innovation, but I was a late sell on online dating. After all it was a breakthrough for me to really realize why it just didn’t make sense in my mind… because I quite literally am an expert in creating mutually beneficial relationships for the long term aka strategic partnerships- professionally anyways ha. I should be good at this I guess, but not so. Being intentional about opening up the heart (and mind) is not easy IRL or digitally it turns out. If you are new to online dating or have run many laps, this convo is for you!  Anjelica and I unpack our experiences, truths, thing we have learned and why we BOTH think online dating is something everyone should try. #lifeskills ya’ll. Pack a helmet tho. At the minimum you’ll gain some insight and have some laughs… like we both did.

Highlights:

Online dating. WTF. An open mind, open heart, and a phone charger. Life skills through sport. Just kidding, sort of. Meeting people in 2021 and what we can bring into 2022. Trail, error, success, failure, tequila. Getting to know yourself. Confidence. Practice. We are all here to learn from one another, perhaps we can streamline your dating process.

Anjelica Roman:

Denver native, marketing expert, chronically single- navigating menver with a pup in hand.

119. Knowing Your Self Worth & Putting A Price On It17 Nov 202100:51:19

“Know your worth. People always act like they’re doing more for you than you’re doing for them.”

– Kanye West

I am so excited to welcome Lindsay Simonds to the T&T mic! Lindsay is a fellow Colorado native and all things non-profit pro! Lindsay founded LSC (Lindsay Simonds Consulting) in 2017 and is a senior, non-profit, fundraising and management professional with a decade of experience partnering with organizations for transformational change. Having raised over $1 billion philanthropic dollars Lindsay’s mission and the message are just beginning. Today we discuss Lindsay’s journey navigating the nonprofit world where investing and spending are often misunderstood. Shouldn’t we do it all for free if for charity? No. We explain why AND how this awareness of self-worth translates into all you do, in every arena (personally and professionally). Dialing into your self-worth, measured by money or time, can be a tricky process. It’s takes time, awareness, trail, and error to really dial into your own valuation point. Then there are the conversations around price point phycology and your own narrative around money. We are here to unpack it all with you! If you are an emerging or experienced entrepreneur (or thinking about taking the leap), this conversation is for you! Developing self-worth and putting a price on it is not easy, but very necessary. Enjoy this convo and put some respect on the checks you will continue to write to yourself… #youreworthit :)

Giving and making money in the nonprofit space. Self-awareness, self-worth, growth. Money management and identifying our own narrative around money. How to ask for money and how to know what you deserve. Comparing the non-profit and for-profit work spaces. Monetizing the scares, battles, time, and energy. Taking the leap from the corporate world to the entrepreneurial one. Priorities and priority shifts. Maturity, security, and taking risks.

118. The Power Of Community10 Nov 202100:24:51

“One of the marvelous things about community is that it enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn't as individuals.”

– Jean Vanier

I am so excited for this one! We are fresh off Podfest Origins, a podcast-based multimedia expo in Florida, and I have my first pod-connect, Peter Ong. Peter is coming to us live from Kuala Lumpur, a Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. That is right, we are worlds apart and yet share the love of podcasting! In a divide world, now more than ever we need unity. What better way to unite than for our love of podcasting and the podcasting community? Peter is a podcaster (obviously), Japanese speaking online marketer, coach, and animation video creator. We talk about Peter’s journey into business and podcasting and how we both embraced the Chris Krimitsos, Founder and Creator of Podfest, motto, Start Ugly! It’s not easy to get on the mic and share your voice, but it is necessary. You can learn from our journeys that it can be a work in progress (podcasting or any new challenge/ adventure) just begin and be open to evolution as you go. Who knows, you might end up with friends around the world at the very least! Community is everything and finding yours is easier than ever- use your voice, share your words, and make friends… the world needs your individuality to unite accordingly (aka niche communities = family:). Everything is easier when you have the supportive efforts of the fam!   Highlights: Entrepreneurship. Podcasting and the podcasting community. Crossing paths because of common ground. The power of community, support, and chasing the dream. Questioning a better way and using your voice. Starting ugly and imposter syndrome. Branding and marketing. Connection.

117. Challenging Conformity by Telling The Truth19 Oct 202100:59:33

“God does not play dice with the universe.”

-Albert Einstein

Grab some coffee and be ready to go deep on this conversation today! I am excited to welcome The Anomaly Architect, Troy McTeer,  to the T&T mic! Troy is the secret weapon to the world's most successful entrepreneurs and ultra-high performing individuals consumed with intense pressure to perform at the highest level. He works exclusively with anomalistic industry leaders - illuminating the illusion of their minds to destroy the addiction of mediocrity and conformity - leading them to achieve extreme Mental & Emotional Prowess by unlocking their unique master sovereignty. Tory is known for his unconventional techniques to help his clients see real results in a streamlined fashion. Today we are going to talk about Troy’s personal journey and how it led him to his own mental prowess and in turn developed his coaching practice. We cover the universe, core values, breakdowns and breakthroughs, and how all is right on time. Some people call it woo woo, some quantum physics, but we all know one thing: energy is everything. Lean into get your mind, thoughts, and your own personal prowess right so you can challenge conformity and live in your authentic truth.

Highlights:

Truth. Challenging conformity. Influencers and marketing. Bread downs, breakthroughs, choosing greatness. Leveling up and leveling out. Being an anomaly. Energy, however you brand it. Questioning a better way and working to live in alignment.

Troy McTeer:

From a very young age, Troy defied ”the norm”, as his rebellious spirit sought out a life on the edge. He left a career in Accounting to explore the world of professional poker for 6 years, where he began to understand and master the power of extreme mental, emotional and psychological clarity. After leaving poker, he implemented his newly found skills in a corporate real estate career. Troy excelled in real estate but it was empty. He was conforming to a narrative that he was told, by society, would make him successful. He found himself navigating depression and suicidal ideation after living a lie trying to conform to society’s expectations of him. After being told he would be on medication his whole life, he harnessed the power of his mind to rid himself of all medication - after only 10 months - shattering the paradigm of mental health to achieve a state of extreme Mental Prowess.

There is NOTHNG to gain from colouring inside the lines, except for living a painfully slow death. His philosophy purposefully confronts his clients with their physical mortality - to ignite their very deep desire to live a life free from the madding mediocrity created by the illusion of fear. Extreme Mental Prowess can only be activated once you take noble responsibility for who you are in this world and cure the cancer of victim mentality. Troy does not believe in “normal” linear systems. Who said life had to be linear? When in Troy’s presence you will become The Master of Mental & Emotional Prowess. In his world, miracles are expected and the only “norm” there is. You are the Anomaly. Your whole life you have been the outlier, pushing boundaries, pushing yourself, creating extraordinary results - results that others could never even dream of. You have been labelled “crazy”, “mad”, “unrealistic” and, over time - unknowingly, dulled your self-expression, creativity and genius in a futile attempt to appear “normal” in the eyes of the mediocre people littered in your life. Your massive vision for your business, your life and yourself sends shockwaves of discomfort down people’s spines forcing you to dumb down your desires - to “fit in”. This has led to a lack of energy, escapism, weakening willpower, burnout, self-doubt and a life absent of “time”. Why? Because you lack the one thing that an Anomaly requires - Mental Prowess. The new paradigm is here - Mental Prowess: Sangfroid - Unflappable Resourcefulness Under Pressure, Noble Personal Responsibility, Brutal Honesty with Yourself, Unwavering Self-Belief and the Ownership of your Anomalistic Power. I am able to see your Mental Prowess hidden deep in your psyche, point it out, unlock it, expand it and deliver it to you - rapidly. I am leading the revolution into extreme Mental Prowess by showing the world's most successful executives, entrepreneurs and ultra-high performing individuals - consumed with intense pressure to perform at the highest level - how to achieve Mental Prowess. Your technical know-how and unquestionable intelligence have got you this far - the only limitation now is your lack of Mental Prowess. Your brilliant psyche is complex, with many moving cogs, yet the tiniest speck of dust can easily bring it to a halt. I will calmly point out that speck and gently blow it away leaving you empowered with extreme Mental Prowess.  You have been thinking small - even though you don’t think so - you have been thinking way too small. It is time to think bigger & bolder, “crazier” & “madder” and even more “unrealistic” than ever before because you are the Anomaly and your vision will never be dumbed down for anyone or anything…ever again. Mental Prowess is rare and only for those who have the courage to own their power, stand in it and create from It.  Mental Prowess is how the "impossible" becomes reality - every time.

I've made a lot of moves.

I was raised in small town Illinois, educated in big city Los Angeles (go Trojans), marinated in Denver, and am now settling down back in the Midwest (Indianapolis) with my Olympian wife and toddler son.

I have been a Big Law lawyer, in-house counsel in a public company, a CEO's Chief of Staff, and the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer for a high-profile sports organization.

I have gone from being an individual contributor to being a leader, a facilitator, an executive, and now a coach.

I have become a wife and a mom.

I have come out (as gay), over and over again, to every new person I meet.

Every one of these transitions came out of some sticking point, a struggle between who I thought I was and who I wanted to become.

And for a long while, I dreaded that process - the questioning, the confusion, the pain of the in between. I knew it was necessary for growth, but I certainly did not enjoy it.

But then I started to see that there is beauty and opportunity in that liminal space. Every struggle and every transition - even (maybe especially) the painful ones - provides an opportunity to connect to who you are now and redefine who you want to become.

That is why I do this work now: to help individuals and organizations see that opportunity and the freedom that comes with those transitions; to help them consciously decide who and what they want to become; and to help them make the transformations necessary to get there.

115. T&T Open Mic: Ted Grant, Viveau28 Sep 202100:53:04

“We are living in a world today where lemonade is made from artificial flavors and furniture polish is made from real lemons.”

-Alfred Newman

I am so excited about this- graceful disruptors in the CPG (consumer packaged goods) space!! You know I love my REAL natural CPG’s, but they are oh-so-hard to come by! When I saw this product, I knew I had to have a conversation with them and luckily, I happen to know someone directly in the mix.  Sparkling water has been all the rage over the past 5+ years, with many debates around the “natural” flavoring. Yes, most of them are calorie free and the ingredients usually say, sparkling water and natural flavoring- not telling us much. The term “natural flavoring” can mean a lot and there are a lot of shades of grey here. Jump in on this convo to hear from Ted Grant, Co-Founder of Viveau, a sparkling mineral water with REAL ingredients. Ted is a longtime entrepreneur, Michelin-Star Chef,  and Dad… in the pursuit of real, good, food. Ted shares his journey, passion, and expertise around seeking real ingredients and the new age process of leading with the heart (instead of chasing profitable margins). The consumer is evolving and so are SOME businesses around us, Ted and Viveau are excellent examples of disruptors “questioning a better way”, living by it, and reaping the rewards from it. If you are an entrepreneur, foodie, chef, or anyone looking to change up the traditional ways of business/living, this one’s for you. Enjoy!

Highlights:

Graceful disruption. Sparking water and natural flavors not being so natural. Passion over paycheck, that leads to a paycheck. Building the right team and creating the right culture aka… The vibe attracts the tribe. Being in alignment with your personal and professional life. Grassroots to boardroom. Creative marketing strategy and evolution. Strategic partnerships. Health, wealth, and balance. Maybe a good cocktail recipe or two… :)

Viveau:

Creating Viveau has always been about accelerating a real food movement for people and planet. That’s why every ingredient comes from the earth, not the lab. No sugar added and no hard-to-pronounce chemicals or so-called “natural flavours". Just real ingredients for a beverage that’s really refreshing.

A tale of two visionaries:

One day at a vineyard in Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, two guys named Ted and Hanspeter were complaining they couldn’t find any sparkling waters that used real ingredients.

Instead, it seemed the industry was saturated with beverages filled with sugar, artificial preservatives, and “natural flavours"— which could mean anything from chemical additives to derived flavouring constituents.

As champions of the real food movement — with real lifetime expertise in the food and beverage world — Ted and Hanspeter became determined to challenge the lack of truth and transparency in the marketplace.

It was time to create the first Canadian-made sparkling water made with actual honest-to-goodness real fruit and the safest, highest-quality water possible.

The Founders:

Ted Grant, The Michelin-Star Chef Chef, gastronomy guru, and food product developer, Ted has worked on five continents supporting a variety of businesses and educational institutions with his vision, enthusiasm, and devoted work ethic.   Hanspeter Stutz, The Trailblazer A pioneer in the Canadian wine and cider landscape, Hanspeter is the founder of the renowned Grand Pré Winery. He brings an unparalleled enthusiasm to every project and every product he creates.
