According to the lawsuit, the conspiracy to protect Weldon Boyd and Bradley Williams started immediately after they shot and killed Scott Spivey on Sept. 9, 2023, on an Horry County, SC, highway. And it continued through the power and influence of the now former Deputy Chief of Police Brandon Strickland, a close friend of Weldon, who allegedly directed the investigation in a direction favorable to his buddy.
But Strickland isn’t the only officer with dirt on his hands, according to the Spiveys..
Officer Daniel Spencer allegedly feeding investigation details to Weldon Boyd.
Officer Kerry Higgs telling Weldon to stop talking.
Damon Vescovi granting Weldon's attorney access to an unsecured scene.
Lt. Doug Dishong allegedly ordering body cameras off while evidence was still being handled.
And Scott’s body left baking in his truck, towed 45 minutes to an impound lot, and an autopsy the coroner never recommended — allegedly pushed to inflate a blood alcohol reading.

On April 27, 2024, 30-year-old Mica Miller — wife of Myrtle Beach pastor John-Paul Miller — walked a mile into a North Carolina state park and made a 911 call that would be the last time the world heard her voice. Within days, her death was ruled a suicide — a ruling that would have ended the story for most true crime journalists.
In the premiere of our remastered Drop-Feed series, Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell return to where their reporting began: the bizarre sermon Pastor JP Miller delivered the morning after his estranged wife's death. An obituary that reads like a taunt. A criminal history that includes running over a woman with a car — twice. And a stack of police reports showing Mica tracked, harassed, and hospitalized against her will in the months before she died.
Police say that JP Miller didn't pull the trigger. But as Mandy and Liz explain — there's more than one way to end a life.
COERCED takes a deeper look at JP Miller’s dark past that includes rape allegations, alleged bestiality, an assault conviction and pardon, and a pattern of allegedly abusive behavior that can be traced back to his father — Rev. Wayne Miller. JP’s felon father once owned a Christian complex in South Carolina called Gloryland… before it mysteriously burned down.
Through exclusive interviews, 911 calls, court filings, and documents obtained through relentless FOIA requests, COERCED examines coercive control, medical and spiritual abuse, and the systems that dismissed a woman fighting for her life — and asks what accountability looks like.

When Greg Parker’s attorney Deborah Barbier told Spartanburg police she'd been “harassed” in a hotel lobby the morning of Mandy's contempt hearing on June 22, 2026, the department did something our team has never seen done so thoroughly for a harassment complaint made by a woman: it investigated.
Multiple officers. Multiple weeks. Untold public monies. Search warrants signed by magistrate judges with no explanation of what probable cause existed — including a search of Mandy's Marriott room records and private guest information divulged over the phone. Hours of surveillance footage later, police could not locate the confrontation Barbier described, and the case is now listed as "inactive".
We’re revisiting what South Carolina's harassment statute actually says, and ask why protected first amendment activities keep getting recast as crimes… and why behavior matching the statute is disregarded.
Then we relook at McClatchy reporter John Monk’s coverage of Mandy's contempt proceedings through the prism of his 44 year old son’s federal indictment on child sexual abuse material charges — to which Monk Jr. has pleaded not guilty. We have questions…

Attorneys for a billionaire gas station owner allegedly billed $310,000 (allegedly because the invoices are secret) — the cost of approximately two murder defenses — in secret billings – to punish a journalist for wanting to feel safe at her own deposition. A deposition that was attempted in March and happened in April.
Judge R. Keith Kelly obliged them, ordering Mandy to pay $171,500 in attorneys fees and a $5,000 fine to coerce a deposition that already happened back in April. We believe that Mandy’s constitutional rights were violated and it makes us worry for all of us.
The contempt charge brought by attorneys who represented Alex Murdaugh's convicted co-conspirators and decided by the same judge who lets Gregg Roman continue to dodge his deposition… the lesson is clear: EVADE SERVICE at all costs and skate free. Also in the civil wrongful death case against Weldon Boyd and Bradley Williams, Weldon filed a motion on Tuesday asking that Judge Eugene “Bubba” Griffith — who denied Stand Your Ground immunity to Weldon and Williams — recuse himself from the Spivey case altogether, claiming that Judge Griffith tried to get Bradley to lie in exchange for immunity.
Weldon’s attorney accuses Judge Griffith of violating the most technical rules on allowing the media to film court proceedings.

Through motions filed Friday, the Beaches accuse Parker, his bank and his counsel of lying, hiding or not producing relevant records and telling a research company to willfully disobey a lawful subpoena.
According to the filing, Greg Parker wired $383,000 to an Israeli defense contractor — Demoman International Ltd.— that, according to a 2023 news investigation, serves as a middle man for the sale of highly sophisticated bot-farm software (Advanced Impact Media Solutions) to unscrupulous politicians, governments, corporations and wealthy businessmen to manipulate public opinion using fake social media accounts.
Parker unequivocally denies releasing photos of Mallory’s dead body to the public, but this latest development raises serious questions about who else might have gotten the photos and why.

In September 2023, 33-year-old Scott Spivey was shot to death on Camp Swamp Road in Loris, South Carolina, by North Myrtle Beach business owner Weldon Boyd and Weldon’s friend Bradley Williams. After calling his mama and his lawyer from the scene, Weldon made another call before police arrived: to Horry County Deputy Chief Brandon Strickland.
On this episode, we break down the investigation within the investigation. It’s not enough that Horry County police repeatedly broke protocol to help protect Weldon from being held accountable for Scott’s death, seasoned investigators on the scene completely mismanaged one of the most basic things to an investigation: the crime scene log.

As Houston, Texas accused murderer Lee Gilley awaits word on his fate after fleeing to Milan, Italy, investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are on the case. Will Italy grant him asylum, or treat him as a criminal to be extradited back to the United States?
New details have emerged about Lee's plan to escape his Houston trial for allegedly killing his wife, Christa Bauer Gilley, and their unborn child in October 2024. Lee's brother, Matt Gilley, testified that he didn't help Lee flee on May 1, but said Lee looked different at their mother's deathbed in April — heavier, bearded, with long hair.
Matt's Zoom testimony came in an emergency custody hearing for Lee and Christa's two young children. Christa's family fears Lee's relatives will take the kids to Europe, yet a Harris County judge ordered the children returned to Texas.
Meanwhile, two of Lee's attorneys move to withdraw and we dig into the 1983 US–Italy Extradition Treaty while Lee’s Italian attorney Monica Grosso says that Lee is exhausted from all his recent travels.

On today's episode, investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell have to share a little warning first: What you’re about to hear today is NOT for kids’ ears. Which is sad to say because it’s about law enforcement officers and what they do at the workplace.
In October 2020, an Horry County Police Officer, applying to work for Highway Patrol, was given a polygraph test as part of a pre-employment screening at South Carolina Department of Public Safety. The results of the test turned out to be so shocking that officials there reached out to the Horry County Police Department to let them know that they had a problem — problems that included sexual misconduct of officers, masturbation at work, drunk driving, sexting photos of genitals while in uniform and even potential child abuse.
According to several sources close to the situation, this polygraph is what led to the outing of what is referred to among current and former officers as the Green Sea 14 — a group of officers, plus firefighters, who were having sex on duty and at police facilities.
As Mandy and Liz continue to dig into what Green Sea 14 means, who was involved, how far up in ranks the officers went and why it seemed to be swept under the rug by leadership, today they share what they found in the investigation file of one officer and what they think it says about the department as a whole, as well as those with the power to fix the problems.

Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are hopeful that South Carolina will pass a law criminalizing coercive control abuse … eventually … maybe. Ugh.
After the tragic death of Mica Francis in April 2024, we all got a crash course in the horrors of coercive control abuse because of what Mica’s estranged “Pastor” JP Miller is accused of doing to her during the final 18 months of her life. Mica repeatedly sought help from the Horry County and Myrtle Beach Police Departments in JP’s alleged stalking and harassment of her, but over and again the police told her there was nothing they could do.
In the meantime, three coercive control bills continued to languish in the General Assembly, which is almost 90 percent men. Last week a hearing was held in subcommittee to discuss the latest iteration of the bill, dubbed Mica’s Law. Liz and Mandy talk about how that went and what they think will happen next. Needless to say, South Carolina’s women should be angry … again.

Last week, investigative journalist Mandy Matney showed up in Cherokee County Courthouse in Gaffney, South Carolina, for a hearing related to her request that her deposition in the Mallory Beach civil conspiracy case be held in the offices of her lawyers or Beaufort County Courthouse — somewhere secure.
But when the hearing began, the attorneys of billionaire gas station owner Greg Parker — who is a defendant in the case — AMBUSHED Mandy, a non-party in the case. Instead of the court hearing arguments in favor of each side’s motions, Debbie Barbier immediately called Mandy to the stand in a highly unusual and confusing move that was clearly meant to intimidate, silence and berate a journalist whose opinions Greg Parker doesn’t like.
Debbie, by the way, is not only one of Greg Parker’s many attorneys in this case but also the attorney for Alex Murdaugh co-conspirator Cory Fleming. Interesting how that came around, right?

While a police press release attempts to absolve Randy Beallis from the crime — which he has never been named a suspect of and says he was not responsible for the deaths of his family members — we still have questions.

Now, Mandy and Liz comb over 113-pages of newly FOIA'd "Becky Files" that expose a pattern of shameless self-dealing— all while Becky allegedly declared, "I'm the Damn Clerk of Court, I do what I want."
SLED's investigation files show how Becky allegedly hosted an after-hours “sealed evidence jamboree” inside the courthouse during the Murdaugh trial and allowed fitsnews’ Will Folks, to photograph sealed crime scene exhibits in what Folks described as a virtual assembly line. These photos were later distributed by fits’ employee Jenn Wood. Actions have consequences… and apparently someone forgot to tell South Carolina.

Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell look at how Boyd and Williams’ claims of self-defense compare to that of Anijah Yarnell. Yarnell killed a man in 2020 which the court determined was a justified Stand Your Ground shooting in 2023 and the state is appealing that decision.
It seems Attorney General Alan Wilson has two different ways of determining “who” qualifies for Stand Your Ground immunity … and it seems to have nothing to do with the evidence and EVERYTHING to do with who the shooters are.
Also on today’s show, we continue our investigation of the shooting homicides of Charity Beallis and her two 5-year old twins in Bonanza, Arkansas. No arrests have been made and multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Secret Service are working on the case.
While Charity’s husband Randy Beallis denies any wrong doing, we’re diving deeper into Randy’s past that reveals an allegedly violent history. A history that prosecutors acknowledged when they offered him a sweetheart deal for choking Charity in 2025. Two months after that plea deal… Charity and the twins were dead.
