🖖 What’s the best order to watch Star Trek?

This week, Trek Trav joins me with a Trekkommendation that could completely change how you look at the franchise: watch Star Trek in release order.

Why? Because in Star Trek, time travel has consequences. Trav’s theory is that whenever our heroes travel into the past, their actions subtly alter what comes afterwards. That means the differences and apparent continuity errors we see between shows might not be mistakes at all — they could be the result of everything that happened in the series released before them.

So rather than trying to put Trek into a perfect in-universe chronological order, perhaps the evolving timeline actually makes release order the best way to experience it.

We dig into Trav’s theory, continuity, time travel and, as always, plenty of Trek tangents along the way.

For our first anniversary episode, I’m joined by Evan Munro-Smith (@stupidoldevan), and he’s taking us back to something Star Trek fans can sadly no longer experience for themselves — Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas.

Part attraction, part museum, part immersive adventure and part place to grab a drink with a Klingon, Star Trek: The Experience was about as close as fans could get to actually stepping into the Star Trek universe.

Of course, before we actually get anywhere near the recommendation, there’s plenty of Trek chat, stories, memories and the usual completely unexpected tangents along the way.

Star Trek: Enterprise may have ended on TV… but the story certainly didn’t.

For Trekcommendations Episode 49, I’m joined by Nat (@scruffyspaceelf), and her recommendation takes us beyond These Are the Voyages… and into the Star Trek: Enterprise Relaunch novels.

These books pick up the story of Archer and the Enterprise crew, exploring the events and conflicts we never got to see on screen — including the build-up to the Romulan War and the continuing journey towards the birth of the Federation.

Nat explains why she thinks the Relaunch series gives Enterprise fans something much closer to the continuation — and finale — the show deserved.
