| Waterfall Hiking in Yosemite National Park | 06 Dec 2022 | 00:48:24 | |
Episode 166 is taking you to one of the country’s most iconic national parks - Yosemite National Park located in the central Sierra Nevada region of California. The gem of California boasts towering granite cliffs, gorgeous tall waterfalls, and bear wildlife spotting! We’ve been to this park several times and have a different experience each time. It’s a beautiful park with plenty to see equally without hiking and through Half Dome, one of the hardest and longest permitted hikes not for the faint of heart. In this episode we share the waterfall hikes we did, where to stay in Yosemite National Park, and the best time of year to visit for open trails and chances of spotting old Smoky. Tips for Visiting Yosemite National Park:
Where to Stay:
There are hiking trails in Yosemite for all skill and accessibility levels. We call this one of the best national parks to visit for sightseeing because you can see a lot of the waterfalls and impressive cliffs from the road. It's equally as amazing for the hiking trails in Yosemite that ascend to high peaks and overlooks. Hiking Trails in Yosemite with Waterfalls The Mist Trail (7 mi) - Takes you to Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls. This trail might be partially closed during winter and spring seasons due to snow and ice blocking the path. Wapama Falls (2.5 mi) - Longest of the two waterfalls on the northern wall of Hetch Hetchy Valley. Bring a rain jacket to avoid the mist! Yosemite Falls (7 mi) - It's a waterfall so high it has to take a break and rest twice in the course of its descent. It's a 2,425 foot tumbler, tallest in North America and fifth tallest in the solar system. Ten times taller than Niagara or Shoshone Falls, nearly twice as tall as the Empire State Building. The lower fall, which you'll be seeing up close on this hike, is the shortest section of the fall, but it's still 320 feet (98 meters) high. Tip: Stand at the base of the falls for a great photo. We've taken this trip many times from Sacramento, CA which is just a three hour drive into the park. We have also drove up and taken this trip from San Diego to Yosemite which makes for a nice long road trip in. If you are flying in the best airports to look at are Fresno & Sacramento. Find a great flight deal to either airport by signing up for Thrifty Traveler Premium and watching the daily flight deals (points & cash) that are emailed directly to you! Use our promo code TS10 to get $10 off your first year subscription. If you can extend your trip, also consider visiting Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks or take a California National Park Road Trip. They are vastly different parks with Sequoia and Kings Canyon having gurthy, towering red trees that make you feel like tiny ants next to them. ----------------------------------------- Shop: Trip Itineraries & Amazon Storefront Connect: YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram and contact us at travelsquadpodcast@gmail.com to submit a question of the week or inquire about guest interviews and advertising. | How to Do Hot Springs, Arkansas the Right Way | 01 Nov 2022 | 01:09:48
This one is a hoot! We go to Hot Springs National Park Arkansas for an overnight adventure soaking in hot springs, enjoying nature, and enjoying our friends’ company! This weekend adventure flew us into Dallas with a road trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas. The only place in the country where the town, and everything in it, IS the national park! We may have only been in Arkansas for 24 hours, but as always, we covered a lot of ground! And got to spend time with Kasha & Ryan, two friends we made on our trip to China! (see episodes 3 and 12 for more about that trip!) We thought our trip in November was the best time to visit Hot Springs National Park because it was cool enough to need a jacket, but not be cold which made the morning hike amazing because you could see the steam rising from the hot springs in the ground all around the area. It was a very cool sight to see. Things to do in Hot Springs National Park

| New England Fall Foliage Weekend | 18 Oct 2022 | 00:40:12 | |
We’re taking you on a fall trip to New England to see beautiful fall colored trees and do fun fall activities. We used Boston as our home base and stayed at a great hotel there. If you’ve never seen Boston in the fall, then what are you waiting for? It’s ana amazing time to be in the city and on this 3-day weekend trip to New England we spent a day exploring there, took a hal day up to see New Hampshire in the fall, driving up to Conway, NH and the Flume Gorge, which is an absolutely must-visit nature preserve in fall and any time of year. We also went to Salem on Halloween, or at least it felt like it! We were there a few days before but costumes and watch things were abound in this spooky city. A New England fall trip is really one of those iconic adventures every American has to experience. The colors alone will blow you away and there’s a lot more to see than we managed to pack into this 3 day trip. | Congaree National Park Trails, Wildlife, and Why You Should Visit | 20 Sep 2022 | 00:35:34
Episode 155 is putting the spotlight on Congaree National Park! It’s one of the most underrated national parks in America, it’s free to visit, there are no crowds, and if you’re lucky like we were, you’ll see an alligator in the wild! Congaree is two hours driving from Charleston, SC making for a perfect day trip while visiting there. We loved this park, we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too hot even when we visited in May, and we saw so much wildlife! In this episode we share the hike we did, what we saw along the way, and report back on another Publix sandwich review. What to Do: We wanted to do the 6.3 mile Oakridge Trail, but the very nice ranger onsite advised that some areas were still underwater from rains, so we were unable to do this one. We did, however do the 4.7 mile walking trail known as the Weston Lake Loop Trail and it did not disappoint! There are also opportunities to kayak in Congaree National Park, which would would provide for a unique experience and perspective. Additionally, Congaree is known for fireflies. There are two weeks in May or June each year that Congaree hosts visitors to see the fireflies. We did visit during this time, but we weren’t going to be near the park at night to see them so we missed it, but it is an epic experience if you are trying to see it. Check the Congaree NPS website for details on when it is and how to attend. Where to Stay:
Where to Fly Into: The Columbia Metropolitan Airport is the closest airport to the park (approx 30 min drive). However, the Charleston International Airport (CHS) and Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) are both approx 2 hours away. Find a great flight deal to these airports by signing up for Thrifty Traveler Premium and watching the daily flight deals (points & cash) that are emailed directly to you! | Things to See and Do in Charleston, SC | 13 Sep 2022 | 00:52:00
Episode 154 is taking you to the charming historic town of Charleston, South Carolina. We only spent one night in Charleston, but we maximized our time there with rooftop bars, walking tour of the Southern architecture complete with wrap around porches, war and colonial history, porch swings on the bay, South Carolina BBQ, and shopping in one of the oldest continuously operating markets in American history. We also say one of the coolest bathrooms on this trip and we’re telling it all here! We also share things we didn’t do, but wish we had more time on this trip to visit so if you have longer you can do what we didn’t! Recommended Tours and Activities in Charleston? Check out our Charleston Viator Experiences for all activities we recommend and even some that we wanted to do but couldn't get to. Where to Stay in Charleston SC? Here are a few hotels we'd recommend staying at: Where to Fly into when visiting Charleston SC? Charleston International Airport (CHS) is the closest international airport. However, if you are pairing this trip with Savannah, that is another great airport to fly into.
