We say goodbye to Uluru and drive 260km to Kings Creek Station, a rustic campground and cattle station, famous for their camel burgers, located on the boundary of Watarrka National Park. We set up camp for 4 nights and explore the various hikes and activities available within the National Park, including the beautiful and fairly easy Kings Creek hike, and the 6km moderate Kings Canyon Rim Walk which is a must do bucket list experience when visiting Australia's Red Centre! We enjoy a night at the Discovery Parks Kings Canyon Resort to experience the beautiful art installation, Light Towers, by Bruce Munro, then set off early the next day towards the West MacDonnell Ranges. This week we’re continuing our epic week of travel between Perth, Western Australia and Bordertown, South Australia as we race our way towards Port Melbourne and the Spirit of Tasmania, dodging hotspots and restricted areas as we go. We set off from Kalgoorlie, the gold capital of Western Australia, and travel 690km to Cocklebiddy along the Nullarbor Plain. Then a further 680km to Penong, crossing the South Australia border and quarantine checkpoint in Ceduna. We stay at the Melrose showgrounds in country South Australia, with the beautiful backdrop of Mount Remarkable, then overnight at Bordertown before transiting through Victoria to board the Spirit of Tasmania for a 430km sail to Devonport. It’s a huge week of travel through some of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes and we can’t wait to share it with you! We manage to remove most of the Outback from the back of the truck before the team at Mildura 4x4 install a canopy, long range fuel tank and double battery system, while we spend our days camping on the banks of the Murray river in Buronga, New South Wales. When the Hilux is complete we hit the road west for Renmark, a beautiful port side town in South Australia’s riverlands, before continuing our journey to Adelaide to have the GVM upgrade finalized with the engineers. We set up camp just south of the city, at Brighton Beach and fall in love with this quaint seaside village. We explore the geological wonderland of Mount Gambier, on the impressive Limestone Coast of South Australia. This incredibly beautiful and unique region boasts over 800 lava caves and 50 sinkholes, formed over 5000 years ago from volcanic eruptions. We enjoy some of the best including the beautiful Umpherston Sinkhole, truly a magical experience, and Paul dives into one of Australia’s most incredible natural wonders at Kilsby Sinkhole. Regarded as one of the best cave diving sites in the world, this is one of our favourite experiences from our travels to date! We set up the van at Strathspey Farm Hipcamp, a fantastic off grid bush campground located in the Barossa Valley. We get out to explore the region’s best attractions, including the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company for their unique chocolate pairing experiences, and Beerenberg Family Farm in Hahndorf, famous for their deliciously sweet strawberries.

We camp off grid at a Silverton Outback Camel Farm, and get to know one of the friendliest and most curious Aussie locals we’ve ever met! We experience a breathtaking Outback sunset tour on camel back, and soak up the history of the region through a number of local experiences including the Old Gaol Museum, School Museum, Silverton Pub and the fascinating desert cemetery. The highlight would have to be our visit to the Mad Max Museum where we got to chat with Adrian and hear his intriguing story of how this blockbuster film series (Mad Max & Mad Max 2) inspired him to pack up his family and move from the north of England to the Australian Outback!
