ADHD, Burnout, and Development02 Sep 202400:49:36

We live in an extremely overstimulating society, where information is coming at us from all angles, and the brain is constantly working to make sense of it all. As we continue to unravel and understand ADHD, we're beginning to see it not just as a disorder, but as an adaptive response to the world. With this perspective, we can work with ADHD more effectively and with greater empathy.

In today’s episode, Elisabeth and Jennifer are joined by Neuro-Somatic Intelligence (NSI) Coach Mari Del Luna, who specializes in trauma resolution and works with neurodivergent individuals. This conversation is packed with insights to help you better understand ADHD from an NSI perspective and reframe how it is approached. They explore why ADHD is not actually a deficit in attention, the reasons behind burnout and fatigue in those with ADHD, effective tools for managing ADHD, and how addiction can be a behavioral response to an overstimulating world—plus much more.

Our brains and bodies are designed to seek safety and regulation by adapting to an overstimulating society. If we can learn compassionate tools to process information more effectively in the context of ADHD, we have a chance to bring relief to a growing population of neurodivergent individuals. It all starts with reframing and changing our perspective, and that’s what we aim to help you with today.

Tune in to hear this and more!

Complex Trauma Is A Neurodivergence26 Aug 202400:55:29

What is a neurotypical world? Here at Trauma Rewired, we don’t believe it exists. As humans, we are biodynamic, unique, individuals that process the world around us differently. So understanding how that happens is key to unlocking our healing potential. Complex trauma adds another layer to the mix, which we believe is not separate from neurodivergence. The “extra” neural pathways reinforced by traumatic events to keep us safe is what shapes the neurodivergent spectrum.

On today’s episode, Elisabeth and Jennifer are joined by founder of Next Level Neuro, Matt Bush, to discuss how complex trauma IS neurodivergence. They take a deep dive into what goes on  in the brain during development and when traumatic events happen, that result in shaping our neurodivergent superpowers. They also discuss how to hone in and take control of these unique nuances to better share our gifts with the world.

Although we cannot change our past experiences, we can change how we process sensory information and rewire the brain to reinterpret triggers that may not be helpful. Through proper dosing of NSI tools, we want to show you how you can achieve that.

So tune in to learn about this and more!

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Does a neurotypical world exist?

  • How neurodivergence effects sensory processing

  • CPTS is ongoing relational trauma during development

  • How everyone’s neurodivergence is experienced differently on a spectrum

  • The chemical change that happens in the brain during stress responses

  • The energy cost of self care and healing

  • Rewiring the brain go reinterpret triggers

  • Why does understanding how we process trauma matter?

  • Will you lose your neurodivergent superpowers while you heal?

  • Nurturing the body to be a place of rest and joy

Anxiety01 Jul 202400:57:57

In this episode of Trauma Rewired, hosts Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristof are joined by Matt Bush as they unpack anxiety. The conversation starts with an exploration of how neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD and autism impact executive functioning, sensory processing, and create hypersensitivities that lead to emotional overwhelm. They highlight the importance of self-assessment and retraining of sensory systems to better manage these challenges. Elisabeth Kristof further connects developmental and complex trauma to nervous system responses, noting how trauma shapes our interpretation of signals and can keep individuals in a constant state of fight, flight, or freeze. Jennifer Wallace emphasizes the crucial aspect of self-awareness and deep self-knowledge in managing anxiety, advocating for practices that foster body awareness, emotional expression, and self-regulation.

Anxiety is not just a mental disorder but a physiological response emanating from sensory mismatches and respiratory inefficiencies. Chronic hyperventilation, for example, sends constant threat signals to the brain, keeping the nervous system on high alert. Through regular neuro training and specific breathing exercises, individuals can better regulate their nervous systems and reduce anxiety.

Let’s reframe anxious thoughts and use cognitive tools to consider positive outcomes, thereby preventing the negative spiral of anxiety and trauma.

Discuss the tangible benefits of applying neurosomatic principles to everyday life. Explore sensory mismatches, emphasizing the need to address deficits in visual, vestibular, somatosensory, and interoceptive systems to alleviate anxiety. We advocate for ongoing self-assessment and retraining as ways to establish a new baseline of wellness.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Impact of Neurodivergence

  • Trauma and Nervous System Responses

  • Self-Assessment and Sensory Retraining

  • Role of Chronic Hyperventilation

  • Anxiety as a Physiological State

  • Cognitive Reframing of Anxiety

  • Female-Specific Anxieties

  • Sensory Mismatch and Anxiety

Toxic Shame: CPTSD Component04 Oct 202200:33:58
The Wolf & the Buried Secret30 Sep 202200:25:17

In this short episode, Jennifer recounts her powerful healing experience at an ayahuasca retreat on the beaches of Costa Rica. Contrary to Western medicine, ayahuasca treatment focuses on the energetic body to open a pathway to healing.

Containing the potent psychoactive DMT, this psychedelic is brewed with tea and drank to induce altered states of consciousness. Ayahuasca can bring undiscovered truths to the surface, and help you revisit memories that shaped you at a young age - and this is exactly what our host experienced.

After learning about plant medicine and listening to others experiences with ayahuasca, Jennifer decided it was her turn to give it a try. Healing requires support, and on this retreat she had the help of two healers to guide her through the use of icaros, or magical songs.

She was able to confront her past, gain insight into her life, and most importantly, release feelings she had been holding on to for decades. Jennifer was able to do all of this in a positive way, not reliving her pain but visiting it with a different point of view.

If you’re interested in plant medicine for healing trauma, this episode is a must-listen! Disclaimer: this episode has multiple mentions of childhood sexual trauma.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Invitation to a live-recording Q&A episode with Elisabeth on October 21st 11AM CST
  • A history and description of ayahuasca
  • Jennifer’s wellness before the retreat and what questions she wanted answered
  • How the diet before the retreat helped improved health
  • Learning about a friend’s childhood sexual trauma realization on the plane ride
  • The similarities between her and her friend in relation to their trauma
  • Jennifer shares her childhood filled with feelings of toxic shame

Emotional Flashbacks: CPTSD Component27 Sep 202200:43:20

Emotional Flashbacks: CPTSD Element

Season 02, Episode 21

The nervous system is our body’s control center, telling us when to move, think, and breathe. Disorders like CPTSD (complex post-traumatic stress disorder), put our bodies in a state of dysregulation that can have profound effects on how we feel and react.

Human emotions are a full system experience, affecting the entire body by way of hormones, sympathetic and parasympathetic stress responses. Big emotions can be overwhelming for those with CPTSD, initiating a maladaptive survival response.

In today’s episode, Elisabeth Kristof is on the show to discuss one element of this new diagnosis: emotional flashbacks. There are some misconceptions around this term, but understanding it is an important step to living a better life without the burden of trauma.

Emotional flashbacks are not regression, but rather a real-time response often created in childhood. Our brains perceive the world through the filter of our experience, so those with trauma will respond to triggers with the neurological patterns they developed as children.

Elisabeth spent years stuck in an emotional flashback state, and only saw true change through working with her emotional body to regulate her nervous system. The cognitive mind cannot overpower emotional flashbacks, so you must create your own toolkit through self-awareness.

Relieving the trauma is not necessary, but it is imperative to express your feelings in order to move on to the next step in your healing journey.

Tune in to learn how to get started!

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Definitions of emotional flashbacks and the neuro-somatic perspective
  • Emotions and symptoms related to emotional flashbacks
  • What can trigger an emotional flashback

The Magic Tea & the Tumor23 Sep 202200:13:59

The Magic Tea & the Tumor

Season 02, Episode 20

We, as humans, are more powerful than we can fathom. We have the ability to heal with our minds and our bodies at such high levels, only when given the opportunity.

Sometimes, to get to that awareness, it takes opening up parts of our minds that have been dormant for a long time. That is where plant medicine comes in.

Plant medicine, when used in a safe and controlled environment, has the ability to open our mind and heart up in ways that can transform us from the inside out.

This is something host Jennifer Wallace experienced after receiving her breast cancer diagnosis, and was called to plant medicine treatment. The treatment had a profound affect on Jennifer, in  that it changed the way she saw her breast cancer and inevitably the way she healed it.

This is a powerful episode that will open your mind to a new way of healing, integrating plant medicine and neurosomatic intelligence to create a powerful combination of intense transformation and healing.

Tune in to hear Jennifer’s story and how you can connect with her to start your healing journey.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • How plant medicine benefited Jennifer in her healing
  • Jennifer’s story of her breast cancer diagnosis
  • Jennifer’s first plant medicine experience
  • The power of our body and mind
  • The courage to see where you are out of alignment
  • Importance of having integration guidance

What is CPTSD?20 Sep 202200:38:54

Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is only recently beginning to be recognized thanks to the Healing Revolution but its roots actually go back to Freud in the 1800’s. Complex CPTSD sets itself apart from PTSD  by five distinguishing trauma responses and likely stems from an adverse childhood experience, a developmental trauma, a failed environment.

With brain science coming so far in the past twenty years we are now more clear about how trauma affects a developing young brain.  Stress, trauma, and unresolved stress responses create a dysfunctional brain. When our bodies are more stressed it can create a chronic illness or disease state within the body. It’s all just one giant loop.

How can we understand this in our own life?  Maybe you will find yourself within Jennifer and Elisabeth's stories or their clients' stories. And understand what you may have thought was a personality trait is actually a trauma response.

This conversation discusses

  • What is  CPTSD
  • The difference between CPTSD & PTSD
  • Dr. Judith Herman, Dr. Pete Walker
  • Emotional Flashbacks, Toxic Shame, Self Abandonment, Inner Critic, and Social Anxiety
  • Possible causes of CPTSD including early childhood sexual trauma
  • Our experiences with CPTSD
  • Emotional neglect is a core wound
  • Development of the fundamental belief system
  • Babies don’t have complex understanding of the world around them
  • All abandonment is self abandonment
  • Working with your nervous system to build awareness and recognize trauma responses
  • Nervous system regulation
  • How does CPTSD challenge society?
  •

This conversation is the beginning of a long conversation about CPTSD as we will be breaking down its components individually.

Fight: Trauma Response16 Aug 202200:35:54

It is our brain’s job to protect us against danger. Whether that is a real or perceived threat, the brain will activate and will result in an action, or inaction. This isn’t the most effective way to be protected for people who have experienced trauma, because that trauma is stored so deep in our subconscious, that the threat response can activate in the absence of a real threat but in the presence of a trigger.

There is no way to avoid having your trauma retriggered and your nervous system regulated at all times. These are lived experiences that have sown their way into our nervous systems, but we can implement tools to regulate in the face of a response that may be harmful to others or yourself.

Specifically the fight trauma response. This can be one of the most damaging to our relationships and our bodies. Creating chaos in moments of intimacy with others, or chaos within our bodies, can lead to living an unfulfilling life. There is a way out of this, and that is what we want to talk about on today’s episode.

Jennifer and Elisabeth sit down to speak about fight response and how it manifested in their lives. As well as tools you can use to help yourself move the anger through your body. They worked with their nervous system and learned how to identify when they were in fight mode and how to regulate it in that moment. They now want to share this knowledge with you.

Tune in to hear their stories and how you can start your journey to a regulated nervous system.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • What happens in your body when in fight response
  • How fight response is automatic without cognitive awareness
  • Benefits of creating a new relationship with fight response
  • Four ways people respond to anger
  • How feelings of unsafety in yourself can make others feel unsafe
  • How trauma responses can be misidentified as a personality trait
  • Reparenting yourself during a trauma response
  • How to move anger through the body
  • What happens to your body when you express emotion
  • The truth about how dysregulation does not stop

Stress Response In Relationship17 Jun 202400:56:28

This week on Trauma Rewired, hosts Jennifer and Elisabeth welcome back Matt Bush of Next Level Neuro to explore the physiology of stress and the transformative power of neurosomatic intelligence.

We know that connection is crucial to our survival as humans, but for those with complex trauma, even the healthiest relationships can trigger a stress response and lead to maladaptive behaviors. This episode provides a comprehensive look at how stress impacts our relationships and physical health, and highlights the importance of consistent nervous system training to rewire the brain’s response to stress and build resilience.

The conversion starts by examining what happens in the brain when a stress response is activated, and how developmental trauma shapes our nervous system and subconscious reactions as adults. Matt breaks down complex neurological processes, covering the role of the HPA axis, immune dysregulation and increased inflammation. Jennifer also introduces a new concept, called “shameflammation,” as they delve into the connection between chronic stress and disease in the body.

Listen to this episode to learn more about stress response in relationships and how you can retrain it through NSI!

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Understanding the HPA axis and stress response

  • How developmental trauma shapes our stress response

  • General adaptation response and the impact of stress on the body

  • Shame and the inflammatory response

  • The neurological response to stress

  • The connection between social threat, inflammation and stress response

  • Neurosomatic intelligence as a tool for change

Addiction and Trauma02 Aug 202200:48:47

Society paints addiction as an individual character flaw, pointing the blame solely on the person who is experiencing the addiction. However, addiction is much more nuanced than that. Especially since we live in a highly dysregulated world, addiction should be expected. Trying to function in society while needing to dissociate has become a part of our collective culture. Since our nervous systems are on overdrive with the amount of sensory overload that is thrown our way, coupled with unresolved personal and collective trauma, finding ways to regulate the nervous system can become a means for survival. So, in that sentiment, addiction is far more than an individual character flaw, it's a systemic issue, which should be part of the conversation.

In today’s episode, co-host Elisabeth Kristoff gives her personal account of dealing with addiction and mental health issues, and how Applied Neurology helped in her healing journey. Elisabeth goes over how addiction played out in her life as well as what happens to the nervous system and brain at a neurological level when dealing with addiction. Although alcohol helps to depress the nervous system, the trauma that is being dampened in that moment still lives in the body and needs a way out. After many hospital visits, Elisabeth is now in sobriety and able to tell her story to help others who are in the same place as she used to be to heal from their trauma and addiction.

Tune in for a vulnerable conversation about what addiction really means on a personal and neurological level as well as tools that could help in coming out of addiction and into sobriety.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • What is addiction really
  • The protective nature of addiction
  • Why we get stuck in addictive behaviors
  • Difference between dependence and addiction
  • Elisabeth’s addiction journey
  • The connection between alcohol and food addiction
  • The neurology of addiction
  • Addiction as a spectrum
  • The areas of the brain that are driving addictive behaviors
  • What is the celiac plexus and its role in addiction
  • How we live in a dysregulated society
  • How Applied Neurology and somatics helped
  • How socioeconomic status and race play a role in addiction
  • Addiction as a nervous system blanket

Flight: The Trauma Response19 Jul 202200:38:30

Flight: A Trauma Response

Season 02, Episode 07

Arriving early, leaving late, overthinking, can’t sit still, breathing quickly, and always keeping busy, are just a few examples of how the flight trauma response can manifest in our lives. This response is biologically built in to keep us safe from harm, but what if that harm is perceived and doesn’t require fleeing the scene? This can be detrimental to our personal and professional lives and keep us in a state of high alert with stress hormones coursing through our bodies that can be quite harmful.

In order to combat this trauma response, the nervous system must be regulated, but it is difficult to do that when we can’t pinpoint whether the response is flight or what the trigger is. The first step is to understand the response, and come back to the body to understand the sensations that come with it.

This is where applied neurology has proven beneficial to create a safe container for nervous system regulation to allow those of us with this response to come out on the other side with the tools and ability to self regulate. Regulate so we can have that hard conversation without leaving half way through or to be able to finally relax and dig our feet in the sand while soaking up the sun.

In this episode, hosts Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristoff of Brain Based Wellness share their personal experiences with flight response and how it affected their lives when they didn’t have the tools to regulate.

Tune in for information about tools on how to recognize and regulate the flight trauma response sensations to be able to live a full and expansive life!

“Living a life of growth and expansion is as simple as living in your nervous system.” - Jennifer Wallace

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • What is a flight trauma response
  • What you can do to develop an awareness of this response and how to regulate it
  • What role does respiration play
  • Behaviors associated with flight response
  • Jennifer and Elisabeth’s personal experiences with flight
  • The physiological response that happens during flight response
  • How applied neurology can help regulate the nervous system
  • How breathwork during flight may not be right for you
  • Best tools to get out of flight response
  • How to deal with triggers in relationships

Nervous System Healing Has No Boundaries05 Jul 202200:51:11

Trauma Rewired: The Science of Applied Neurology

Season 02, Episode 05

The same tools you use to rehabilitate your knee can also be applied to decreasing anxiety. Our bodies are incredibly intelligent machines wired to keep us alive and thriving, but what if that same wiring that is there to protect us, works against us in ways we aren’t aware of? In the same breath, what if that same knowledge is the key to, not only our healing, but our acceleration as physical and intelligent beings. This is what our guest on today’s episode is here to discuss:

Internationally recognized teacher of Applied Neurology, co-founder of Next Level Neuro, and part creator of Neurosomatic Intelligence Coaching, Matt Bush is joining us on today’s podcast to discuss his techniques used in Applied Neurology to heal the mind and body for optimal performance.

Matt’s innovative approach to healing has proven successful in treating issues such as scoliosis, chronic pain, long COVID, and anxiety, by focusing on the nervous system, specifically vision, as treatment. Matt’s methods are based heavily in science, however require little to no equipment. He puts his trust in the body’s intelligence in healing itself through simple exercises that could ultimately be life changing for many.

It’s time to move out of survival mode and create an above average life, because average does not have to be the baseline, excelling above is the goal and that’s what applied neurology teaches us.

Listen in for a fresh take on healing and information on how you could also become a Neurosomatic Intelligence Coach!

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Client and personal stories about Applied Neurology
  • What is Applied Neurology - simply put
  • Why is it important to train the nervous system
  • What do nervous system deficits look like
  • Monovision explained
  • Where 2020 vision came from
  • How stress hormone levels affect athletic performance

Fawn the Trauma Response28 Jun 202200:40:36

In this episode we will be discussing the least understood, and most insidious four F’s in trauma response, fawn.

This survival adaptation is difficult to pinpoint, because fawn can often be confused with empathy or general care, but if not dealt with, can get to a toxic level for the fawner. Neglecting yourself for the sake of others can cause chronic issues, not only in the body, but in creating genuine connections as well.

The missing piece to overcoming fawn is to first identify it, then to gain tools to regulate the nervous system to create safety in the body. However, the tools are difficult to implement when you are unaware of the trauma response in the first place.

Neurosomatic Intelligence Coach, Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristoff from Brain-Based Wellness, uncover what fawn looks like and how it may show up in your life. Along with practical tools to regulate the nervous system in situations where fawning was the automatic response, and how to override that with an intentional one.

Finding safety in your own body IS possible and so is living authentically. Listen in for more info!

 Topics discussed in this episode:

  • What does fawn mean in terms of a trauma response
  • Why fawn develops
  • Recognizing fawn in yourself
  • How its triggered
  • Practical tools to move passed fawn
  • What is sexual fawning

ACE scores and your health across your lifetime21 Jun 202200:48:00

Did you know you can measure your life expectancy by taking a short quiz about childhood experiences? Depending on the score, your lifespan either increases or decreases by 20 years!

Advances in science have found a link between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), and poor physical and mental health later in life. This distinction has been difficult to prove, but thanks to Dr. Vincent Filetti’s dedication to studying this phenomenon, we can make a correlation between traumatic events from our past and chronic illnesses that manifest in adulthood.

In this episode, Neurosomatic Intelligence Coach, Jennifer Wallace, and Elisabeth Kristoff from Brain Based Wellness, discuss the link between childhood trauma and illness later in life in hopes of shedding light on how trauma stored in the body can cause, sometimes fatal, health issues. In this conversation, Jennifer and Elisabeth recount their own ACE scores and how it has affected their health and lives as a whole, as well as tools based in applied neurology to allow for self-regulation to help heal trauma stored in the body.

These adverse childhood experiences change the physiology of the body and mind which lead to higher risk of obesity, addiction, and other harmful maladaptive behaviors that are bad for overall health, and lower life expectancy.

When we understand the root causes of our health issues, we are more equipped in finding solutions and tools to help heal ourselves once and for all. Tools that are discussed in this episode have been proven to help not only Jennifer and Elisaeth in their healing, but many others who have used applied neurology for their benefit. Listen in for more information!

.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • What are ACE test scores
  • Obesity study by Dr. Vincet Filetti
  • Pinpoint maladaptive behaviors related to past traumas
  • Bridging the gap between trauma and illness
  • What a dysregulated nervous system looks like
  • Learning tools on how to regulate to reduce chronic stress

How Trauma Lives in the Body14 Jun 202200:39:44

Trauma Rewired: How Trauma Lives In The Body

Season 02, Episode 02]

There is a fundamental key to healing trauma that is often overlooked, but crucial to move from survival mode to a balanced fulfilling life. That is, understanding that our bodies have a highly intellectual memory system that holds on to trauma for years. We focus so much on the mind, but neglect the intricacies of our physiology to heal traumas long term. Your mood, finances, intimacy, productivity, etc, are essentially dictated by your nervous system. A dysregulated nervous system caused by trauma can have detrimental effects on all areas of life, especially if negative coping mechanisms are involved.

In this episode, Jennifer Wallace sits down with the creator of Brain Based Wellness, Elisabeth Kristof, to discuss how applied neurology is the missing piece to understanding what trauma really is and how it affects our physical bodies on a scientific level, and in turn our outer world. Jennifer and Elisabeth recount their own experiences in healing from trauma using applied neurology.

Intellectually understanding your trauma is not enough, there is an extra layer that we must pay attention to before we can fully heal. Through consistent, healthy, nervous system regulation practices and exercises, mentioned in today’s episode, healing IS possible. Listen in for more information.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • What is trauma
  • How to recognize nervous system dysregulation
  • Pinpoint negative regulation patterns
  • Tools to regulate nervous system healthily
  • The science of trauma
  • How applied neurology heals trauma
  • Easy daily exercises to help heal trauma

Why Heal Your Nervous System07 Jun 202200:30:32

What if I told you that 90% of your issues can be solved just by healing your nervous system? It sounds like a simple solution for the complexity of issues in our lives, but the reality is, most of life is navigated by our nervous system, and for people who have experienced trauma, this can have a range of negative consequences from digestion issues to trouble with intimacy in relationships.

In this episode, Jennifer Wallace sits down with the creator of Brain Based Wellness, Elisabeth Kristof, to discuss how to train the brain to heal the nervous system. By doing simple daily exercises, you can train the brain to elicit new behaviors or coping mechanisms that help regulate the nervous system to lower the stress response in the body.

Traumatic experiences, if left untreated, can wreak havoc on the nervous system, causing dysregulation of the nervous system keeping you in a survival state. However, using Elisabeth Kristof’s Brain Based Wellness methods, you can move out of stress and anxiety by doing simple exercises every day that take less than 5 minutes.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • How our nervous system relates to behaviors
  • How to regulate the nervous system
  • Nervous system deficits
  • How to pinpoint and heal deficits
  • Benefits of healing the nervous system
  • What is Applied Neurology
  • What is Brain Based Wellness
  • Exercises and tools to regulate the nervous system

She along with her sister, Nicole Goggans, founded the organization in 2017 with the mission to prevent suicide through public awareness and education, in honor and memory of their brother Sam Johnson; because Suicide…Awareness…   Means… Hope. The SAM Foundation has trained over 5000 individuals that include mental health professionals, teachers, students, school counselors, nurses, first responders and concerned community members in vital suicide prevention programs. The rapid growth of The SAM Foundation has been the result of the extreme need to combat suicide in our communities, which is a continual heartbreak.

Julie is committed to breaking the stigma of issues within mental health and becoming a resource for those affected by suicide. Julie knows the effects of extreme trauma first hand and is truly committed to learn how dealing with trauma may prevent other mental health issues and crises and will spread this awareness to others within her work in hopes of changing the stats of suicide in our nation and worldwide. Suicide has become a silent epidemic in which so many are unaware. Together with education, study, and awareness, change is possible, therefore hope is restored…

About Angie Hijl

Originally from Orlando, Florida, with a professional background in corporate event planning, Angie created A Soiree by Angie to channel her personal style and passion for design and creativity. A Soiree has grown from designing events to custom dried floral arrangements and consulting for local Austin businesses – ranging from brand development, graphic design, photography, community relations, and social media management.

With that passion for connecting people and building community, Angie co-founded a local Women Empowerment group called Glam Soiree. Glam Soiree is a flourishing and intentional community where women of all different backgrounds and professions come together to celebrate life, support and inspire each other, set intentions for the future – and be glam while doing it. Pre-covid, Glam Soiree hosted bi-monthly events at the top restaurants and venues throughout Austin.

Angie is proud to be a Board Member of Truth Be Told. Truth Be Told is a nonprofit organization based in Austin, TX that provides transformational programs to women behind bars. Being formerly incarcerated herself, Angie is a strong supporter of women that are currently and have been involved in the criminal justice system who are working to rebuild their lives. She believes that we all have the ability to use our voice, discover our true selves, heal from past traumas, and create the life we want to live.

About Heather Emerson

Heather's mission is to change food through strengthening local food systems so that everybody wins: the community, our health, our planet. In 2016, she founded Prep To Your Door in an effort to make that a reality. The company serves Austin and Houston organic, farm-to-table meals in zero-waste packaging. All products are plant-based, gluten and dairy free.

Heather has spent the last 15 years rebuilding her life after being incarcerated for one year. Her promise upon release was to grow, be honest, and do good things. She graduated from University of Texas with dual degrees in Mathematics and Linguistics, and in 2020 with her Masters from Harvard University.

She is currently co-leading a team of 30 people and her proudest accomplishment is winning "FAVE Sustainable Business" in 2019, being invited to the board of Truth Be Told in 2020, and named as Forbes Next 1000 for 2021. Heather was also a finalist for Austin Under 40 Awards in 2020 and 2021, and won the prestigious Austin Women’s Way Award for “Business to Watch.”

Healing with Ketamine Therapy16 Nov 202100:50:37

I’m really looking forward to exploring ketamine and ketamine assisted therapy with Alli Waddell, Co-Founder of Illumma Ketamine Clinic. She is here to share her big story and how she found ketamine. She has an incredible story, she’s going to show up very openly and authentically.

I’m a big fan of psychedelic therapy and plant medicine. It’s helped me greatly with anxiety, depression, and purpose. But ketamine isn’t a tool that I’ve worked with yet. Ketamine is breaking down barriers and leading the path in psychedelic therapy. From the history to the incredible healing properties, we're going to dive into that and learn everything we can about ketamine.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • What ketamine is
  • Who ketamine is not for
  • Ketamine’s healing capabilities
  • How trauma is the root cause
  • The 2 Paths -- Ketamine Therapy & Ketamine Assisted Therapy
  • The process of ketamine infusion and the experience
  • Alli’s journey and how she found her path to healing
  • ‘Emotional Unpacking’
  • How ketamine lasts long-term
