| Taking some time out | 22 Jul 2021 | 00:15:46 | |
Don't worry I'll be back! But I need to take 3 months off from the YouTube channel to not be stressed and have some time with my baby before he goes to nursery. He's at that difficult in-between stage of starting weaning but still also breast-feeding frequently, not napping so much in the day, and starting to become mobile when he is awake! I have my work cut out! I'll be back.... Fancy a show without ads? Subscribe! https://plus.acast.com/s/wildgingerrunning. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

| Interview with Elise Downing author of Coasting: Running the Coast of Britain | 08 Jul 2021 | 01:12:01 | |
Elise Downing, with absolutely no ultra-running experience, unable to read a map and having never pitched a tent alone before, set off to run 5,000 miles around the coast of Britain, carrying her kit on her back. Over the 301 days that followed she developed a debilitating fear of farmyard animals, cried on a lot of beaches and saw Britain at its most wild and wonderful. She became the youngest person and first woman to complete this journey. Her book about the trip is out now; Coasting (publishers Summersdale) "Coasting is about putting one foot in front of the other, even when it feels impossible, and trying to enjoy it too. With heart and humour, Elise explores the thrill of taking risks and putting your trust in total strangers, and learns some home truths along the way." https://www.amazon.co.uk/Coasting-Running-Around-Coast-Britain/dp/1787839818 Originally on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tb5NC23-_94 Fancy a show without ads? | Interview with record holder GB ultrarunner Dan Lawson - How to run 874 miles from Lands End to John o'Groats (LEJOG) in 9 days | 10 Jun 2021 | 01:14:04
Dan Lawson is a British ultra runner and charity worker from Brighton. In 2016, he won the European 24 Hour Championships, and in 2020 set one of the fastest known times for Land's End to John o' Groats (LEJOG). Dan averaged over 80 miles a day on the roads and trails of Great Britain to break Richard Brown’s 25-year-old record to finish in 9 days, 21 hours, 14 minutes and 2 seconds, setting the fastest time with robust supporting evidence. dmtwo media’s Dave MacFarlane joined the crew for the entire adventure and in doing so has created one of the most memorable and endearing films about ultrarunning that you’ll watch this year called 'Breaking Ten. From the treacherous A30 in Cornwall, through England, Wales and Scotland and battling along the A9 in Scotland, the ultrarunner’s relentless progress, supported by his family and friends, is simply an inspiration. In 2015, he placed first in the Grand Union Canal Race, beating the previous course record by over three hours. He also placed first and set new course records in the Roseland August trail Black RAT (32 miles); the Ridgeway Challenge Ultra trail, 85 miles; and the Run the Rann 161 km ultra trail, India. Lawson placed second in the Spartathlon, making him the second fastest British runner in the race’s history. He placed 24th in the 2015 IAU 24 Hour World Championship, Turin, receiving a gold team medal as part of Team GB & NI. Dan Lawson won the IAU 24 Hour European Championships in 2016 with a distance of 261.843 kilometres (162.702 mi) and holds the record for longest distance run during a 24-hour Ultramarathon in India, and the record for distance run on a treadmill in 7 days, having run 521 miles. Dan is founder of ReRun clothing company which repurposes and aims to prolong the life of running clothes and equipment to reduce items going to landfill. The film ‘Breaking Ten' is available to watch on Vimeo https://vimeo.com/ondemand/breakingten , as well as added out-takes and extra interview footage from the record-breaking run. | Interview with Eileen Jones - Journalist, author, former fell runner and born-again parkrunner! | 25 Mar 2021 | 01:03:58
Eileen Jones is a journalist, author and publicist based in Ambleside in the Lake District. How parkrun changed our lives is her first book for Gritstone Publishing which ‘set out to see why so many people love the Saturday morning run around the park, and how it has changed their lives’. She has her own one-woman business, Cumbria PR, promoting tourism and heritage organisations including William Wordsworth’s home at Rydal Mount, the Heaton Cooper Studio and Gallery, and Zeffirellis cinemas and restaurants. She has worked for newspapers and magazines including the Yorkshire Post and Holland Herald, the KLM inflight magazine based in Amsterdam, and for 12 years she was course leader for the journalism and public relations degrees at Huddersfield University. A former fell-runner who once won a teapot in the 33-mile Haworth Hobble, Eileen has competed in many of the big fell races, including Wasdale, Borrowdale, Ben Nevis and Bens of Jura. But when she slowed down “I started to feel guilty about the marshals waiting for me on summit checkpoints. It was no fun being so far off the back of the pack.” Now she describes herself as a born-again parkrunner. She’s done 260 parkruns at 104 locations and was once proud to be first “old dear” at Old Deer parkrun. She helped set up the parkrun at Fell Foot, Windermere in 2014 where she is still a member of the core volunteer team, and also helped set up the new Rothay parkrun in Ambleside. In her spare time, Eileen is a theatre reviewer and has a popular – if currently dormant - theatre blog, Stagey Lady. She has two sons, one of whom was a member of the West End cast of Les Miserables (2015-16); and the other played the Les Mis lead, Jean Valjean, in a junior production. Eileen’s dream project, for which she’s gaining considerable and not entirely fantastical support, is the production of a new show : parkrun the musical. How parkrun changed our lives is her first book for Gritstone Publishing. It’s available from Amazon, from bookshop.org, the independent online store, and from the publisher’s website: https://gritstonecoop.co.uk/books/how-parkrun-changed-our-lives/ Fancy a show without ads? | Q&A with Marco Altini - Founder of HRV4 Training | 04 Feb 2021 | 01:01:29
Live interview with Founder of HRV4 Training - Marco Altini, looking at using how we can measure and use Heart Rate Variability (HRV) in our training and coaching. HRV looks at the variability between heartbeats. Heart rhythm, and therefore HRV, is regulated by the parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system, the one in charge of rest and relaxation. HRV4 Training states that HRV is an effective way to capture how our body is coping while trying to maintain a state of balance in response to different stressors such as training, lifestyle, etc. We interview Marco to discuss how he developed this app and how we can use it in our everyday training and running. Marco Altini has a PhD cum laude in Data Science, MSc cum laude in Computer Science Engineering, MSc cum laude in Human Movement Sciences, High-Performance Coaching. He is the founder of HRV4Training, Data Science Advisor at Oura, Guest Lecturer at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Physiology section of the Department of Human Movement Sciences) and has 10+ years of experience modeling physiological data, and 50+ publications at the intersection between technology, health, and performance.
