Episode 260

dimanche 8 août 2021Duration 43:56

We often hear about fashion and clothing stylists and even food stylists, but every bit as important is the prop stylist. The folks who curate all the finishing touches that give a shot its sense of time and place. Prop stylists are often the real behind the scenes heroes of the amazing images that we see in magazines and advertisements.

New York based Robin Zachary is a Prop stylist with experience at all levels of the creative process, from prop styling, to creative direction and even photography. With over 20 years of experience in the advertising capital of the world, I knew that Robin would be the perfect person to speak with to gain insight into the world of collaborating with prop stylists.

20 Years and Over 800 Weddings Photographed With Joseph Ellis

Episode 259

samedi 24 juillet 2021Duration 51:36

Wedding Photography. So many new photographers decide to shoot weddings because they think it is a sound money making genre. So many wedding photography businesses fail quickly because said photographers had no idea how much work is actually involved in shooting a wedding and running a wedding business. It takes a special person to not only be good at wedding photography, but also to be able to make it a full-time business that supports a family of 4.

This was not the case for my guest Mr. Joseph Ellis. Along with his wife Stephanie, Joseph has shot over 800 weddings in the last 20 years after transitioning to weddings from his early career as a photojournalist. Together, the couple owns and operates Big Wall Family Photography studio in Dallas, Texas.

Joseph shared some great advice for new wedding photographers and lots of details about how he works with wedding couples and the gear he uses.

Master Light Painter Jason Page and the Art Form of Light Painting

Episode 247

vendredi 16 avril 2021Duration 47:29

This week, I had an awesome opportunity to chat with a man who is a self-described light painter.

Jason Page resides in Southern Florida, and he not only practices this incredible art form, but he has invented a series of tools called light painting brushes, that along with the help of some simple flashlights, allow a light painter to paint in similar ways to an artist with a brush and a canvas. Jason is widely recognized as a leader in the current light painting movement. Jason has pioneered numerous light painting techniques and with his innovation he's created groundbreaking images.

Jason's light painting work has been published internationally in print, as well as online he's exhibited his work in numerous shows and galleries, including locations like Palm Beach, Miami Amsterdam, and Moscow.

To quote Jason; "Light painting is its own art form. Just as drawing is an art form or painting is an art form, calling light painting a photographic technique would be the same thing as calling, painting a canvas technique."

Personal Branding Is NOT Just For Professional Photographers

Episode 245

jeudi 1 avril 2021Duration 44:27

Personal Branding — Social Media — 4 words that make up two of the most misunderstood terms in the photography world.

You might think that's because they have nothing to do with actually taking pictures. But I would argue that they have everything to do with taking pictures — regardless of the genre that you shoot.

Make yourself comfortable and open up your mind to some new ideas that I sincerely believe can help you improve your photography and if it is one of your goals - your business as well.

Robert Trawick - The MOST famous photographer you've never heard of!

Episode 241

mercredi 3 mars 2021Duration 58:10

Robert Trawick routinely describes himself as “the most interesting photographer in Oklahoma” or “the most famous photographer in Oklahoma that you have never heard of”. I am going to take it a step further and declare him the MOST famous photographer you have never heard of.

Robert has a long list of photographic accomplishments, and he loves sharing his knowledge, along with a few tricks honed over a 30+ year professional career.

A self-professed ‘time-traveler’, Robert has been active in the industry since 1980 receiving most of his formal training during a twenty-year career as a USAF photojournalist. A recent convert to mirrorless camera system — Fujifilm X Series — he encourages others to embrace new technologies to achieve their photographic goals. Just spend a few minutes with Robert to gain insight into the passion that drives him to share the joy of crafting fabulous images.

Robert is the co-host of the FotoFacts Podcast, a casual iTunes audio show highlighting photo education and industry influencers.

Robert happily shares life’s beautiful “Instagram's” with the inspirations in his life — a fabulously talented photographer wife Terri & amazing daughters Amy, Amber, Georgia and Shannon.

The fun whimsical photographic art of Anna Devís and Daniel Rueda

Episode 240

mercredi 24 février 2021Duration 01:05:59

My TOGCHAT guests this week are Hasselblad Ambassadors Anna Devís and Daniel Rueda. Based in Valencia, Spain, Anna and Daniel are both trained architects who have combined their love for geometry, perspective, and storytelling to become the ultimate creative couple.

This creative duo uses their architectural backgrounds to tell stories through fun and surprising images that are far from conventional architecture photography. Their style is characterized by their visual sense of humor, creativity, precision, and a delicate aesthetic inspired by the city, geometry, and minimalism. Their images succeed in establishing magnetic and joyful narratives that smartly suggest both the nature of human relations and the fascination with the urban environment.
