I’m John from ‘Til Mets Do Us Part, and it’s time for A DIFFERENT KIND OF ‘Til Mets Morning Minute, where we talk as quickly as possible about the biggest stories from the New York Mets.

So, let’s talk about Juan Soto. 

…Don’t worry, I’m not an idiot, so it’s not gonna be one of *THOSE* “Let’s Talk About Juan Soto” videos.

Juan Soto is a great player, a true generational talent, and he’s been that every place that he’s played since he was 19 years old. Has he been vintage Juan Soto to this point with the Mets? No. Does that matter? Also no… Only if you’re dumb.

First, it’s been 19 games into a 15 year contract, any reaction is an overreaction. Second, he’s still sporting an OPS+ or 125, or 25% better than league average, generally considered to put a player firmly in the “very good” category. Meaning his slumps are better than most players’ best.

Codify compared his first 19 games with the Mets to his first 19 with San Diego, and they’re awfully close. Obviously, he went on to be predictably great in San Diego.

Players are human, no matter how talented. Sometimes, they’re going to need an adjustment period — whether that is moving 3,000 miles away after being traded from the only organization you’ve ever known, or trying to “prove yourself” all over again to a new fan base, after signing the biggest deal in the history of the sport.

If you’re worried, you’re overreacting. If you booing, you’re dumb. Be better.

I’m John from ‘Til Mets Do Us Part, and it’s time for the ‘Til Mets Morning Minute, where we talk as quickly as possible about the biggest stories from the New York Mets.

The Minnesota Twins are a bad baseball team. They play sloppy, they don’t have as many quality players as the Mets do throughout the roster, and they’re dealing with a lot of injuries. Yet, somehow the Mets managed to lose a series to them this week, including the first back-to-back losses the Mets have suffered all season.

Tuesday night, the Mets started strong on both sides of the ball, but faded in the middle innings and could never rebound — whatever, tip your cap, sometimes bad teams beat better ones. Wednesday afternoon, on the other hand, was one of the sloppiest games the Mets have played this season. Clearly a case of playing down to the competition.

For most of the game, they lacked timely hitting, they swung at bad pitches, they showed some bad fundamentals, had some undisciplined at-bats, got an ill-advised send from a base coach and challenged a play they shouldn’t have — which came back to bite them later. The 8th inning rally to get the game tied was exciting for a moment, but ultimately, not scoring in the 10th was the final straw.

It’s frustrating to lose a series like this, but baseball is an every day game, and players and fans alike gotta try and wash it way.

The Mets are winning series and are near the top of the NL East. The crazy thing is they aren't even clicking on all cylinders! Offense is still up and down. On a cold, windy, rainy night in Minnesota, the Mets picked up a tidy 5-1 victory over the lowly Twins.

While none of Clay Holmes first few outings have been quite as dominant as his efforts in Spring Training, you can see the makings of an excellent starting pitcher.

He picked up his second win of the season, going 5 innings, with 2 walks, 2 hits and 8 strikeouts. For a moment, he looked like the wheels were about to come off in the 5th, after a walk, a hit by pitch, a wild pitch and a 2nd walk loaded the bases. But he was able to find it again, getting out of the inning, only allowing 1 run.

On the offensive side, Pete Alonso stayed hot, with 2 hits, 2 walks, an RBI, and a run scored. Acuña was on base 3 times, and Juan Soto added a big 2-run homer.

After another series win, the Mets are the only team in the league who hasn't lost 2 games in a row to this point.

The offense started slow, but came on late. They were held scoreless thru 5.2, before putting up 8 runs in the final 3.1 innings. Vientos, Baty and Acuña all got involved in the offense, which was great to see. The Mets added a fluke run on an odd balk call by the 3B umpire on A's reliever José Leclerc -- whatever man, just take the runs.

Busy couple of days, but I missed you guys! Since our last Morning Minute, the Mets wrapped up a 5-1 home stand before winning their first game in Sacramento v. the A's. Last night, however, the bats went cold again and the Mets were on the losing side of another frustrating game.

The offense continues its cycle of boom or bust, with barely anything in between. David Peterson was sharp, but the 2 runs he gave up, were ultimately all the A's needed tonight. The Mets made some noise in the 9th against All-Universe closer Mason Miller, but it was too little too late. They're set for the rubber game today!

After a pitcher's duel resulted in a 2-0 shutout of the Marlins the night before, the Mets offense is unleashed for a 10-5 victory. They win their sixth straight ballgame, remain undefeated at home, and look to sweep the homestead today.

While Holmes pitched much better than his line would indicate, and Brazobán was bit by the wind blowing out, it was nice to see the offense pick up the pitching today, after the pitching had carried this team thru the first week of the season. #LGM #Mets #MetsBaseball #MetsFans

What more could you ask for than a sweep in the first home series of the season? The Mets and Blue Jays played a quick, old school kinda game on Sunday, with New York picking up a narrow 2-1 victory.

David Peterson started and was good, though he didn't last long, only 4.2 innings. He was relieved by Max Kranick, Reed Garrett, AJ Minter and Edwin Díaz, all of whom were excellent. The Mets bullpen has the lowest ERA in baseball (and their entire pitching staff, including the starters, boasts the same feat!)

Pete Alonso continues to stay hot and drive in runs in big spots, as he picked up his 11th RBI today, in only the 9th game of the season.

On a cold and rainy night for baseball, the Mets picked up an inspiring late-inning win, reminiscent of the latter half of the 2024 season. Former Met Chris Bassitt kept the Mets lineup off balance for most of the game. Griffin Canning matched him stride for stride early, but ultimately his pitch count got him out of the game with no outs recorded in the 5th.

The Mets bullpen was solid once again, with Butto only allowing one run, but the star was Huascar Brazobán. He pitched 2.1 scoreless innings that kept the Mets within striking distance. Jesse Winker tied the game with his second triple of the night in the 8th, and Francisco Lindor hit a walkoff sac fly to end it, off the first pitch thrown by Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman. The Mets have a knack for winning on both Opening Day, and their home opener, and that trend continued yesterday with a shutout victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Unlike the previous game, New York played well on offense and defense, while the great pitching performances continued. Tylor Megill looked great in 5.1, before giving way to the trio of Reed Garrett, A.J. Minter and Max Kranick.

The offense was again paced by Pete Alonso, this time with a 2-run home run in the first -- a swing that earned the Polar Bear a curtain call. After the craziness of his offseason, that one had to feel great!

It was an ugly, UGLY game, but the Mets snuck out of South Florida with a win. The box score won't look good in most cases, but a win is a win. Pete Alonso continues his clutch start, with his game-tying 3-run homer. Torrens pinch hits late and provides TWO game-saving plays on defense. With that, the Mets are a dead even 3-3, as they head back to New York for the home opener on Friday! #LGM #Mets

After an offensive outburst the night before, the Mets' bats went quiet again. Senga pitched good, at times, his stuff looked great, put it wasn't quite good enough. In his first start back after the birth of his son, Francisco Lindor had a very uncharacteristic 2-error game.
