Ep. 45: From Burnout to 2:54: Adri Ducharme on Finding Joy in Running Again12 Jun 202600:59:45

In this episode of Through Their Stride, I sat down with Adriana Ducharme (@runningthelife_ on Instagram) to unpack a journey that many runners experience but few talk about openly.

Adri shares how a toxic college coaching environment led to burnout and a loss of identity within the sport – and how stepping away from that structure helped rediscover what running could be. Through joining a club cross country team at the University of Georgia, she rebuilt her relationship with competition, community, and herself.

That renewed perspective translated into serious performance gains. Adri went from a 3:14 marathon debut to a 2:54, proving that growth doesn't always come from pushing harder — it comes from finding joy again.

We also talk about balancing competitive goals with a full-time teaching career, and how Adri uses her platform to show that chasing big goals is still possible, even with a busy life.

This episode is for anyone who's felt burned out, stuck, or unsure of what's next – and needs a reminder that a comeback is always possible.

Ep. 44: How Niko Labendeira Went From a Weight Loss Journey to a 3:28 Marathon04 Jun 202601:20:11

It started as a way to become a better version of himself after gaining more weight than he felt comfortable with. Now, he's a 3:28 marathoner pursuing a Boston Qualifier in the near future.

As a kid, pursuing fast times in marathons, half marathons (he's a sub 1;28 guy), and 5Ks (he's also an 18:46 guy) wasn't something he ever thought he'd do. But once he started back in 2020 just for health, he soon became quite the fan of the sport.

Now, not only is he pushing himself to do hard things, he's also inspiring his wife, who finds joy chasing her own PRs, and his kids, one of which is doing triathlons at 7 years old and another who can ride a bike without training wheels at just 3.

Niko's a perfect example of when you make the choice to get consistent and put out that energy, not only will you change your own life, you'll inspire those around you to chase theirs.

If this episode inspired you to do something hard today, let me know in the comments and share it with a friend. Thanks for listening to Niko's story on Through Their Stride.

Ep. 35: Jeff Cunningham on Individualized Coaching and Boston Readiness17 Apr 202601:02:07

As an adult, you get the privilege of choosing a running coach rather than having one assigned to you. And one of the best coaches to choose from is Jeff Cunningham.

In this episode, Jeff Cunningham, founder of Cunningham Running and Bat City Track Club, as well as host of The Consistently Good Podcast, discusses what it's like preparing 15 runners for the Boston Marathon, the philosophy that guides his coaching, and why he values staying grounded and living in reality when it comes to the process of training. It's a great look into the mindset of a coach who cares deeply about the athletes he works with and the journey they take to get to the start line.

Ep. 34: Snagging an OTQ in Her First Marathon: Gabby Hentemann12 Apr 202601:15:26

Gabby Hentemann joins Through Their Stride to talk about her incredible debut marathon at the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon where she qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials alongside her friend Alyssa McElheney.

In this conversation, Gabby shares how she stays grounded with her "it's not that serious" philosophy, opens up about overcoming an eating disorder during her college career, and reflects on finding joy in both running and life.

Ep. 33: Grief, Growth, and the Next Run: My Interview with My Wife, Monica04 Apr 202601:46:07

In this deeply personal episode of Through Their Stride, my wife turns the mic on me to ask about my running journey, the grief I've experienced after losing my mom, and the lessons running has taught me about life, resilience, and moving forward.

We talk honestly about the highs and lows, what grief has changed in me, and what's next from here. If you've ever found strength in running, or needed a reminder that life isn't linear, this episode is for you.

Ep. 32: Austin Marathon Champion Joey Whelan20 Mar 202601:05:48

In this episode of Through Their Stride, I sit down with three-time Austin Marathon champion Joey Whelan. A Buffalo, NY native and former Syracuse runner, Joey stepped away from the sport after college due to injuries, only to rediscover his love for running while working hard labor for a rock milling company in the Texas Hill Country.

He made his marathon debut at the Buffalo Marathon, finished second, and never looked back. Since then, Joey has made two Olympic Trials appearances, won multiple races, set a PR of 2:09:42, and this year set a new course record at the Austin Marathon with a time of 2:13:18.

This is a conversation about perseverance, rediscovering your passion, and what it takes to compete at the highest level of American distance running.

Ep. 31: A Sub-3 Marathon in 90 Days? McKay Nelson Chased the Impossible13 Mar 202600:44:46

McKay Nelson had never trained for a race in his life. His athletic background was in high school baseball and football — not exactly the resume of a marathoner. But armed with an unshakeable belief that the human body and mind are capable of more than we give them credit for, he set out to prove just that.

90 days. 26.2 miles. Under 3 hours.

In this episode, McKay takes us through the full journey — the training, the doubt, the moments he wanted to quit, and what it actually felt like to toe the start line knowing everything he'd put on the line to get there. His story isn't just about running. It's about what becomes possible when you stop believing in your own limitations.

Whether you're a runner, an athlete, or someone who's ever talked yourself out of something before you even started — this one's for you.

Ep. 29: From Achilles Injuries to a Sub-4 Marathon at 18: Alberto Quintero Ayala's Journey04 Mar 202600:37:33

After years of suffering Achilles flare ups in track and cross country, high schooler Alberto Quintero Ayala was tired of feeling like he wasn't in control of his running journey. So, in 2025, he decided to commit fully recovering and shifted his focus to one hard thing: getting back in shape to run his first marathon at just 18.

Alberto documented his entire journey to the Austin Marathon on his YouTube Channel, Road To Marathons, where he showed the highs, lows, and tips he learned along the way to finishing in a time of 3:54:52.

Going forward, Alberto plans to take what he learned and continue pushing forward until he breaks 3:30, 3 hours, and beyond. He hopes others can become inspired by his journey and take on the hard things that feel daunting in their lives as well.

Ep. 28: Running Up That Hillary: Hillary Burgess On Staying True to Yourself27 Feb 202601:02:50

A running influencer, a storyteller of running history, and oftentimes a comedian of the sport, Hillary Burgess has made a name for herself in the sport of running. And it all started with a bit of curiosity.

When Hillary started her Instagram channel, @running_up_that_hillary, she didn't even consider it could turn into a popular running page. But she kept posting content that was funny, true and authentic. No games. Nothing fake. That authenticity has attracted a ton of running fans.

Similarly, as she became more of a fan of the sport of running, her curiosity made her do more research into the sport's history. She found a lot of interesting stories and thought, "Why not share this with more people in a podcast?" And now, "Today in Running History" is a household name in the running podcast space, and it has a ton of great stories and interviews with runners of all eras.

Hillary is the example that if you stay true to yourself and pursue your interests to the fullest, there's no telling what you'll accomplish.

Ep. 27: Inspiring Others to Push Through Hard Times and Setbacks: Sarah Amyx20 Feb 202600:59:22

After being diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder in 2021, made a choice. Instead of becoming a victim to her problems, she decided to get up and live her life to the fullest by taking on a new, scary sport: running.

Since then, she's run multiple half marathons — including the Galveston Half Marathon five times, several marathons, and has become an ambassador of the Houston Marathon.

Her main mission with running is to show people that even when it gets hard and it feels like you're alone, you can still get up and show up for yourself. She also wants people to know that they aren't alone. There are so many people who are suffering through similar problems you are and are willing to help if you ask.

Ep. 26: Grandfather and Granddaughter Qualify for Boston: Carlos & Mia Sanchez13 Feb 202601:02:41

Carlos Sanchez began running marathons way back in 2008. At that time, he thought running one shouldn't be humanly possible. Little did he know he'd be towing the start line of the Boston Marathon with his own granddaughter one day.

Mia Sanchez, the aforementioned granddaughter, has been running competitively for a while now, most recently at St. Edward's University in Austin. It had always been a dream to run a marathon with her grandfather, and in 2025, they did just that. On Carlos's 38th attempt and Mia's first, they simultaneously qualified for the 2026 Boston Marathon.

They already know this is going to be a moment they'll never forget. I'm so excited to share these two amazing people's stories with you guys. If you liked it, please subscribe, share, and give it a like or a comment wherever you get your podcasts.

Ep. 43: From 4:34 to 2:39: How Justin Cannon Learned to "Get Greedy"29 May 202600:50:26

In this episode, I sit down with marathon coach and "Busy Runner" Justin Cannon to unpack how he went from a 4:34 debut marathon to a 3:06 in his very next race and then to a PR of 2:39. That kind of leap didn't just change his PR; it changed his entire mindset, making him want to "get greedy" with his goals and see how far he could really go.

We dig into what shifted his entire mindset between each marathon, how he balances big dreams with real-life responsibilities, and why that transformation pushed him to start coaching and helping other runners chase their own breakthroughs. If you've ever wondered what's possible when you stop playing it safe and start getting a little greedy with your potential, this conversation is for you.

Strides Through H-Town, Ep. 5: Rafa Aguilar on the Highs and Lows of a Beautiful Houston Build (25)06 Feb 202601:04:23

A marathon build doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful. And that is the story of Rafael Aguilar's journey to the Houston Marathon this past January.

He nearly got deported. He was broken up with by his girlfriend a week before race day. And through all of that adversity, he still pulled out a PR of 2:45:52 at the Houston Marathon in January.

Adversity isn't something Rafa is new too, though. In high school, he found himself thrusted into the starting goalie position on his soccer team. Even though it was his first time starting, he dedicated himself to becoming the best player on the team, and he did just that, earning MVP at the end of the season. And in 2023, when he decided to make a change in his life, he quit smoking, picked up running, struggled at times, and found his way to becoming a consistent sub-3 marathoner.

Adversity doesn't have to win if you just beat it with positivity and consistency. That is Rafa's story.

Strides Through H-Town, Ep. 4: Brandy Hoffman on the Voices That Carried Her Through Houston (24)29 Jan 202600:55:52

Brandy Hoffman had signed up for the Houston Marathon before. And every time, she found a reason not to start.

This year, she finally said yes, and toed the line as a first-time marathoner.

Brandy is a wellness coach with DLDNation, known for helping women do hard things and chase big goals. But this time, the work was personal. When the miles got heavy, she leaned on something unexpected: the voices of her family, sent through an app called Rally, reminding her why she started.

And at the finish line? A now-viral video from her daughter that perfectly captured what this race really meant.

This episode is about borrowed courage, finishing what you start, and the power of being supported when you need it most.

Strides Through H-Town, Ep. 3: Krystle Hodge: From Imposter Syndrome To a 3:35 Marathon (23)27 Jan 202600:58:47

What if you didn’t start running until later in life — and still ran a 3:35 marathon? Well, this runner did just that.

In Episode 3 of the Strides Through H-Town series on Through Their Stride, I’m joined by Krystle Hodge, Houston Marathon Ambassador and three-time Houston Marathon finisher. Krystle ran a huge PR of 3:35:29, all without a background in competitive sports.

We talk about:

  • Starting running later in life and pushing past the mental hurdles
  • Battling imposter syndrome as a runner
  • Why community matters more than pace
  • Sharing the highs and lows of running on social media

If you’ve ever questioned whether you “belong” in the running world, this episode is for you.

Strides Through H-Town, Ep. 2: Adriana Rodriguez on Proving Doubters Wrong (Ep. 22)22 Jan 202600:43:51

From when she was a little girl, Adriana Rodriguez was told she'd never amount to much. Boy, were those doubters proven wrong.

On January 11, Adriana took on the Houston Marathon as her first-ever marathon... and shattered her Boston Qualifying-time with a finish of 3:03:21. Incredible, sure. But that's not the only success she's had in life.

At the age of 16, she was chosen to run cross country and track for St. Edward's University. She was only 17 in her first season, and she's thriving with the team. And on top of that, she's on pace to graduate at just 19 years old.

From overcoming dyslexia, to building a life for herself, a community of runners, and quite the running resume, we talk about everything she did to get to where she is today, all of the teammates and coaches she is thankful for, and her plans to potentially qualify for the Olympic Trials someday.

Thank you, Adriana, for sharing your story on Through Their Stride. If you like this story, please leave a comment, share, and subscribe!

Strides Through H-Town, Ep. 1: Taco on Chasing Big Goals and Honoring Where He Came From (Ep. 21)20 Jan 202600:55:23

In the first episode of Strides Through H-Town, I sit down with Taco (@tacoxrun), a Houston-based runner whose journey is rooted in patience, growth, and belief.

Taco is a two-time marathoner, with his first marathon taking place at the Mexico City Marathon and his second right here on home turf at the  Houston Marathon. In this conversation, we talk about how his approach to running has evolved step by step over the years — and how that same steady growth has shaped his life beyond the road.

One of the driving forces behind Taco’s pursuit of big goals is his desire to honor his parents’ decision to move from Mexico to Texas in hopes of giving him a better life. That gratitude fuels his mindset, his work ethic, and his willingness to chase dreams that once felt out of reach.

We also talk about self-doubt, starting before you feel ready, and how Taco uses his platform to encourage others to believe in what’s possible — even when they don’t yet believe in themselves. Looking ahead, he shares his goal of one day taking on an Ironman, not out of pressure, but out of curiosity and confidence built over time.

This episode is a reminder that growth doesn’t happen all at once — it happens one step, one mile, and one decision at a time.

Ep. 20: Kristian Warwick, Host of The Marathon Podcast PART 216 Jan 202600:46:07

In part 2 of my conversation with Kristian Warwick , he dives into his journey with running since hiring a coach, how taking the big, scary steps has led to The Marathon Podcast's success, and what he has planned for the podcast and for his training in 2026.

Ep. 19: Kristian Warwick, Host of The Marathon Podcast PART 109 Jan 202601:17:58

Kristian Warwick only recently started running marathons. But it didn't take long for him to fall in love with the sport.

After qualifying for the Boston Marathon in his first race with a time of 2:52, this former speed skater knew this was something he wanted to invest his time in. And that, he has.

But not only does he love chasing big goals for himself (he eventually wants to run a 2:25 marathon... or faster), he also enjoys sharing the experiences of runners — whether elite or your everyday jogger — on his well-known podcast, The Marathon Podcast. Kristian has been a filmmaker and photographer for a long time, making beautiful videos and capturing perfect moments for his business, Wiild Studio, so storytelling is nothing new to him. And that's evident in the episodes he's published thus far.

However, sharing runners' stories isn't the only thing The Marathon Podcast has become known for. In conjunction with the podcast, he began offering The Marathon Podcast Sponsorship to up-in-coming elite runners who may not be sponsored yet.

In this episode, we break down how he got into running, what he's loved most about hosting the podcast, and how being the "weird kid" when you're little usually turns you into a successful and unique individual as you get older.

I hope you enjoy my conversation with Kristian. If you do, please remember to like, comment, share, and subscribe. It helps me continue to tell the stories of runners in Texas and far beyond.

Ep. 18: Carrie Fromme | Running 24 Hours for Hope: Turning Miles Into Meaning02 Jan 202600:46:06

What starts as a single marathon can turn into something far bigger.

In this episode of Through Their Stride, I sit down with Carrie Fromme—a Canadian-born runner now living in Texas—whose journey into running quickly grew into a mission of purpose. After discovering her love for endurance, Carrie set her sights on using running as a force for good.

In 2025—and again in 2026—Carrie is taking on a 24-hour run as part of Hope Endures 24, raising money for children in Honduras. Last year, she ran over 60 miles and raised more than $23,000. This year, her goal is even bolder: 100 miles and $100,000 raised to create lasting impact.

Ep. 17: Faith Husmann & Cody Stewart: A Father/Daughter Marine Corps Marathon26 Dec 202500:56:44

Some episodes stay with you long after you stop recording — and this is one of those.

In this episode of Through Their Stride, I sit down with Faith Husmann and her dad, Cody Stewart, to talk about what it meant for them to run the Marine Corps Marathon together.

Faith’s running journey began years earlier, inspired by watching her dad take on a 50K when she was younger. Cody had already been running for years before that, but the biggest impact he made wasn’t a finish time — it was the example he set. Last year, Faith carved out her own milestone by running a sub-four-hour marathon at the Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon. This year, she lined up shoulder to shoulder with the man who inspired it all.

Cody is also a Marine Corps veteran, which made running the Marine Corps Marathon together even more meaningful — a race layered with service, legacy, and family.

This conversation goes beyond pacing strategies and race-day nerves. It’s about inspiration passed down, growth earned, and the power of sharing the miles with someone who helped shape who you are.

Ep. 42: How Your Child's Ambition Can Push You to Do Hard Things | Jim LeRoux26 May 202600:36:49

As life piles on, it can be easy to escape into bad habits. But sometimes, all it takes is seeing your own child muscle up the courage to do hard things for you to start chasing your dreams again.

For Jim LeRoux, that's exactly what happened. Jim was a well-respected competitive runner in high school, but college studies, family building, and the grind of everyday life led him to become a tad overweight, out of shape, and with unhealthy blood pressure numbers. He had a hard time finding the motivation to chase that childlike self again, but when his own daughter picked up cross country, it reawakened something inside of himself.

Seeing his own daughter chase fast times and first place finishes made him want to get back into shape so that he could run with her. He's done just that, and now has impressive times of sub-19 5Ks, sub-40 10Ks, and even a marathon PR under 3:15.

Jim's story proves that if you say yes to committing to your own promises, anything is possible. I hope this one inspires you to take on something hard and show up for yourself even when no one is watching.

Ep. 16: Tate & Taylor Mauldin: Finding Stronger Strides Together23 Dec 202501:07:55

Running didn’t start as a shared passion for Taylor and Tate Mauldin — in fact, it didn’t even start as a passion at all.

In this episode of Through Their Stride, Taylor shares how she first turned to running for wellness, structure, and mental clarity. Tate, admittedly reluctant at first, eventually joined her on the roads and trails… only to discover he was surprisingly good at it. What began as individual motivation quickly turned into a shared pursuit — and a deeper connection.

Their journey hasn’t been without challenges. Just days before toeing the line at the Irving Frost Marathon, both battled sickness, and Taylor endured a frightening setback after being bitten by a dog on a long run. Still, they showed up, leaned on each other, and finished the race together — a powerful reminder that running is about far more than pace or placement.

This conversation is about wellness, partnership, resilience, and how running side by side can strengthen a relationship in ways neither of them expected.

🎧 Listen in for:
- Finding running through wellness, not competition
- A reluctant partner discovering unexpected talent
- Training, racing, and recovering together
- Overcoming setbacks and still showing up

Ep. 15: Harper Keihl: From Struggling 3 Miles to a 1:44 Half Marathon19 Dec 202500:33:32

In this episode of Through Their Stride, I sit down with my friend Harper Keihl to talk about what it really looks like to fall in love with running — and how quickly life can change when you commit to the process.

Just over a year ago, Harper struggled through a 3-mile group run. Today, he’s run a 1:44 half marathon in Austin and is fully immersed in the Austin running community, training with Goodpain Athletics and chasing his next PR.

We talk about: • What finally made running “click”
• The mental shift that comes with consistency
• Training in Austin and finding the right people to grow with
• How goals evolve once you realize what you’re capable of

This episode is for anyone who feels like they’re late to running, stuck at the beginning, or unsure if they belong. Harper’s story is proof that progress doesn’t take decades — it takes commitment.

Debuting in the new 910 Geist Ekiden Elite X racing shoes, two-time Olympic Trials qualifier and Illinois local Colin Mickow won the new San Antonio Marathon in a blazing 2:22:25.

In this episode of Through Their Stride, Colin joins host Sam Sutton to break down his race-day execution, his unique, high-mileage training regimen, and the path that brought him back to elite competition after taking several years away from running following his collegiate career at the University of Illinois.

From rediscovering his love for the sport to building durability through consistent volume, Colin shares what has played a major role in his marathon success. He also reflects on navigating the early miles of a brand-new course and deciding early on that this was going to be a race, not just a training run.

Ep. 10: Jackie Mancuso's Return to the Marathon23 Nov 202500:53:53

In this episode, I sit down with Jackie Mancuso — vineyard manager, marathoner, and a runner currently training for the California International Marathon after a few years away from the sport.

Jackie opens up about her long struggle with negative self-talk around training: feeling like she wasn’t capable, feeling like a failure during hard workouts, and battling imposter syndrome despite being a Boston Qualifier with a PR from the New York City Marathon.

This time around, she’s flipping the script.

Jackie’s CIM build is all about patience, joy, and letting the running come to her — and the shift has changed everything.

We talk about:• returning to running after time away• how negative thoughts shape training• finding joy and fun in the process• her renewed mindset heading into CIM

A real, honest conversation about pressure, identity, and the freedom that comes from choosing joy.

In Through Their Stride, I talk with runners in the Lone Star State to share the stories of why they run. Whether it's just taking on their first race or setting records, what they do is incredible and their story is worth telling.

Ep. 9: Two-Time Lubbock Marathon Champion Brian Vote16 Nov 202500:36:04

When Brian Vote took up running, it was purely just to help his mental health after his mother had passed away. His wife was a runner, and he felt like it could be something they could do together.

He took on his first marathon in 2022, and suffered his way to a 4:30-plus time. But his running journey wouldn't end there. He qualified for Boston after coming second in Marathon2Marathon in 2023, and ended up running 2:58:22 at the Boston Marathon in 2024.

In the fall of 2024, he won the Lubbock Marathon, and defended his title in 2025.

While winning big races is fun, victory isn't what Brian is after. He shares his journey of running to inspire people and show them that they can and should do hard things. Whether it's running or something else, finding a productive hobby that you're passionate about will only better your life.

In Through Their Stride, I talk with runners in the Lone Star State to share the stories of why they run. Whether it's just taking on their first race or setting records, what they do is incredible and their story is worth telling.

Ep. 7: Angela Grannan's Story of Relentless Forward Motion15 Oct 202500:49:01

This is the hardest episode I’ve ever shared.

My mom, Angela Grannan, has been living with cancer since 2013. She’s a two-time Boston Marathon finisher, Hotter’n Hell 100 cyclist, and one of the toughest people I’ve ever known.

After years of remission, treatment, and relentless perseverance, she continues to face each day with the same strength that carried her through every mile.

This is her story — her stride — and her legacy.

Ep. 6: Victor Mills on the Character That is Built in Doing Hard Things06 Oct 202500:37:36

When Victor Mills (formerly Victor Glenn) decided to run a half marathon with me, he wasn't much of a runner. He just knew he wanted a challenge. And generously, he wanted to help me get out of my funk after dislocating my knee.

In this episode, Victor and I talk about what happens when you willingly step into discomfort: the discipline, the setbacks, the small victories that change who you are. From long runs to showing up on days when the "why" feels blurry, this conversation is about building character through doing hard things.

Ep. 40: She Never Stopped Believing: Andie Cozzarelli's OTQ Story18 May 202601:10:16

Andie Cozzarelli's journey back to the Olympic Trials marathon standard is one of the most powerful stories I've heard.

After debuting in the marathon at the 2016 Olympic Trials and not finishing, Andie spent years fighting to get back. The road was anything but smooth, filled with setbacks, hard lessons, and moments that tested her patience and belief. But in 2026, she broke through in a big way, winning the Glass City Marathon in 2:36:59 and earning the OTQ standard.

We talk about what it took to stay in the fight, how learning to truly listen to her body changed her approach, and how those experiences now shape the way she coaches others. This conversation is about perseverance, perspective, and what it means to keep showing up for others.

Ep. 39: Heart Over Hard: Aly Kozar on Running Through Life's Toughest Seasons15 May 202600:41:19

In this episode of Through Their Stride, I sit down with Arizona-based runner Aly Kozar (@runswithheart on Instagram) to talk about what it means to keep showing up when life doesn't go according to plan.

Aly shares the ups and downs of her marathon journey, how she's learned to get back up after hard seasons in running and in life, and the deeper personal road of walking through infertility and PCOS. Our conversation centers on resilience, perspective, and the growth mindset that has helped her keep moving forward with hope, honesty, and positivity.

This is an episode about endurance in every sense of the word, whether it's chasing finish lines or learning how to keep going when the path is unclear.

Ep. 38: The Miles That Help Us Carry Grief: Robert Jackson11 May 202601:03:32

In this episode of Through Their Stride, I sit down with Robert Jackson for a conversation about running, grief, and what it means to keep moving forward after loss. Robert shares how running became a place to process sorrow after losing family members, and how the sport has helped carry him through some of the hardest seasons in life.

We also talk about his marathon journey, Boston, the people who have helped shape him as a runner, and the role his support system has played along the way. This one was especially personal for me too, because after losing my mom earlier this year, I was able to connect with Robert as a runner and as someone who understands that grief can change the meaning behind every stride.

If you've ever used running to work through something heavy, or if you just love hearing honest runner stories, this is a conversation I think will stay with you.

Ep. 37: The Power of Purpose and Cause in Running: Carlie Bixler01 May 202600:50:01

What does it mean to run for something bigger than yourself?

In this episode, I sit down with Carlie Bixler, a marathoner and key part of the Run Uplifted community in Georgetown who's taking her running all the way to the Copenhagen Marathon as a charity runner for #StacheStrong, raising money for brain cancer research.

Carlie shares how her perspective on running has been shaped by the people in her life, from family members affected by cancer to her mother's ongoing recovery from a brain aneurysm. Her story is a powerful reminder that running can be about so much more than pace and performance. When you run for others, you learn more about resilience, gratitude, and showing up while you still can.

We talk about community, purpose, and what it looks like to run with meaning behind every mile. If you've ever needed a reason to keep going, this one hits.

Ep. 36: Turning Pain Into Purpose with Six Star Finisher Dorina Carrillo24 Apr 202600:55:00

When taking on something bigger than yourself, Six Star World Marathon Majors finisher Dorina Carrillo has two pieces of advice. Make sure it's something you're passionate about and do it with all your heart.

Dorina first got into running in 2012 as a way to do something hard while her mom was battling breast cancer. After her mom's passing, she stepped away from the sport. But in 2016, a friend helped her find her way back. What started as a personal challenge turned into something much bigger.

Since returning to running, Dorina has completed all six World Marathon Majors, raised thousands of dollars for cancer research, and inspired countless others to take their first steps into the sport.

This conversation dives into grief, motivation, community, and how running can become a powerful outlet for healing and impact.
