Camping30 Jul 202001:17:16

This episode is a basic overview of connecting to nature. We discuss recent projects and how Three Rivers is involved in protecting and connecting folks to nature. We spend time talking about primitive living and past heros who lived a harder life. We talk about a human desire to get back to our roots in nature. We define what is essential and necessary vs. what is comfort. We then get into a few items, some essential, some just for comfort, that we like to have on our camping trips.

"My laptop is gonna smell like fish."14 Jul 202001:15:38

WARNING: This episode contains epic good times and happiness that is hard to contain. Listening to this episode may cause severe heart palpitations, heavy breathing, wishful thinking, sudden impulse to purchase a new boat  or fishing gear, extreme excitement, and in severe cases, marital disputes and extreme debt. We recommend you fish with your spouse or significant other and family for best results.

This episode finds Sam and Cody on location. We take the podcast gear on a boat ride as we travel surrounded by Three Rivers Land Trust Conservation projects. We start the trip off presenting dry flies on 5 weight rods, to bluegills. Then we transition to the tiny but mighty white bass with conventional spinning tackle. Finally as the moon begins to rise, we set in for our intended target: the blue catfish. Anchored in the dark, frogs in the background, the occasional rise of a fish slurping something from the surface, and 8 heavy duty baitcast reels bails set, ready for a strike. During this episode we discuss the underutilized resources in the fishing world. We discuss tactics for all types of freshwater species and spend considerable time talking about our target. We also land a few nice cats live.

If you are already an accomplished fisherman, or you are a novice looking to get into the action, this episode is for you, regardless of where you are located. Three Rivers is dedicated to conserving places for everyone to enjoy the outdoors, and in this episode we highlight an area where we have worked to conserve and some of the opportunity that abounds.

Saving the Stage30 Jun 202001:25:21

This episode brings us back to our beginnings as a show. We explain how the experiences we have in the outdoors become stories and an integral part of our work. They also help fuel the conservation passion for all of us here in the office. A good outdoors story is as old as human kind.
We tell a few stories from our own repertoires and then examine the stage wherein each story takes place.  The common theme is: wild places, nature. Without nature and wild places, what kind of stories will future generations tell?

Send us your story at: threeriverslandtrust.org  also let us know how you like the podcast.

This episode gets into BBQ sauce. A plug for our good friends and sponsor at Backcountry and Beyond gets detailed. Can't decide whether to thank 'em or fight 'em over the sauce recommendation...  Seriously this stuff is off the chain. We talk about turkey nest disturbance and the issues surrounding re-nesting. We also discuss the good of the one vs. the good of the many, which is applicable to many forms of wildlife management, not just turkey nests. We talk about mean mugging a catfish pic. Is it ok to put a giant catfish on your son's head for a photo? It definitely takes two people. Cody gets the big head about his turkey season. Only in the spirit of joking however. Cody feels extremely fortunate to have had a lucky season. Sam talks about his close encounters. The struggles of working from home with your spouse. A serious note on the conservation work at Three Rivers Land Trust.

Turkey Hunters Anonymous14 Apr 202001:19:54

This episode begins with airing out frustrations of repairing modern equipment. "The Right to Work movement" is discussed briefly. Farmers and mechanics are no longer able to repair their equipment in house and must rely on expensive service calls and dealers which is both inefficient and expensive.
We then turn our focus to the most important thing on our minds: Turkey hunting. We share a couple of our recent adventures, several ending in some success. We talk about the emotional highs and lows of chasing gobblers. We are internally discussing an idea to spearhead a support group focused solely and repairing damaged souls and egos as they pursue the great Meleagris gallopavo. Also the group may discuss the consecutive wearing of turkey hunting socks for a period of more than 2 days.. (socks purchased from B&B)
A few stories of how Cody is raising his son to be a man in covid19 world. 2 years old and he is fighting fire, spotting turkeys, and hooking up trailers, no joke. Not to mention is obsessed with fishing.
