Your doctor offered you the pill for your perimenopause symptoms but said no to MHT. Why? It's one of the questions we get most.

Dr. Jen Zelovitzky is back to explain how these treatments differ and the factors that should be considered when exploring each of these options for symptom management in perimenopause. She also explains why the one-year-without-a-period rule shouldn't be the gatekeeper for your treatment.

In this episode:

  • Why so many women are offered the pill but not MHT in perimenopause
  • When the pill is the right tool, and why it can stop working as well
  • How an IUD or progestin-only pill can be paired with estrogen
  • Why there's no age or time limit on MHT
  • What the Women's Health Initiative missed about women with symptoms
  • What LOOP events are, why you might get them, and what you can do about them

Dr. Jen's bottom line: there is no woman out there who doesn't have an option. You deserve a good quality of life.

Liv Lighter with Gina Livy: Women’s Health, Perimenopause and Menopause Journey02 Sep 202600:44:19

We know Gina Livy as the weight loss expert. So when she told her community she was writing a book, we assumed we knew exactly what it would be about. We were wrong.

Liv Lighter: The Art of Living Well in Your Body, Home, and Mind is out September 8, co-written with home designer Lynne Knowlton and travel planner Norma Thiessen. It's a book about the weight women actually carry. The guilt. The permission we're still waiting for. The house we keep clean for people who aren't even coming over.

In this episode:

  • Why weight loss is so much more than the numbers on the scale
  • How your home is a wellness partner
  • Why travel is about perspective, not sightseeing
  • Why sleep and stress are the actual midlife levers
  • Why Gina's back at the National Menopause Show in Toronto this October, and what she's moderating on the main stage

This conversation went places we didn't plan for, and we're keeping all of it.

Stefan Underwood on The Value Proposition of Sleep Part 2: Women’s Health, Perimenopause and Menopause Journey12 Aug 202600:32:14

Okay, so you're convinced. Sleep matters. Now what?

In Part 2 of our conversation with Stefan Underwood, SVP of Methodology at Exos, we get into the practical stuff — the things you can actually do to protect and improve your sleep, even when perimenopause is working against you. No overwhelm, no 17-step overhaul. Just a clear framework and a few things worth trying.

Because as Stefan puts it: perfect is the enemy of better. And better is absolutely worth fighting for.

In this episode:

  • The three-chapter framework for improving your sleep: foundational biology, environment, and disruptors
  • Why morning and evening light exposure is one of the most powerful (and free) things you can do for your sleep
  • The truth about temperature and why cool isn't a one-size-fits-all answer.
  • How to think about your sleep environment beyond cool, dark, and quiet
  • The real cost of that one glass of wine
  • Why heavy resistance training and sleep have a bi-directional relationship and what adenosine has to do with it
  • The emerging research on heat acclimation - hot tubs, dry saunas, and why training your body to handle heat might help reduce hot flashes and improve sleep

Plus: the one thing Stefan wants every woman to know about sleep.

This is Part 2 of a two-part conversation. If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, start there. It'll change the way you think about why sleep matters in the first place.

This is part of our Endy Reclaim Your Rest Sleep Series - helping you wake up rested, focused, and ready to take on whatever the day brings.

Stefan Underwood on The Value Proposition of Sleep Part 1: Women’s Health, Perimenopause and Menopause Journey05 Aug 202600:34:03

Tired of being told sleep is good for you? Yeah, us too. We already know. The real question is: why aren't we protecting it?

In this episode, we sit down with Stefan Underwood, Senior Vice President of Methodology at Exos, a human performance company that has worked with elite athletes, Special Operations Forces, and Fortune 500 leaders.

Today Stefan is going to completely reframe the way you think about sleep. Not with guilt. Not with generic advice. But with a compelling, personal reason to finally fight for it.

Because sleep isn't just rest. It impacts every single cell and system in your body. And in perimenopause, when your hormones are already working against you, what's happening (or not happening) while you sleep matters more than ever.

In this episode:

  • How to find your personal "value proposition" for sleep
  • What REM sleep does for your emotional regulation
  • Why the woman who's showing up to the gym three days a week and not seeing results may be missing this one critical piece
  • Why perimenopause is the exact wrong time to sacrifice sleep and what's really at stake when you do
  • The "mom tax" and why the invisible mental load women carry makes sleep deprivation even more costly

This is Part 1 of a two-part conversation with Stefan. Consider this your wake-up call.

How Sleep is Sabotaging Your Weight in Perimenopause with Gina Livy and Dr. Olinca Trejo: Women’s Health, Perimenopause and Menopause Journey13 May 202600:50:12

You’re doing everything right - eating well, moving your body, and trying so damn hard. But the scale still won't budge! Take a listen to this episode, because the answer might not be on your plate. It might be in your bed.

In this episode of our Endy Reclaim Your Rest sleep series, Mikelle sits down with two women who know a thing or two about what it takes to lose weight and feel good in your body. Gina Livy, creator of The Livy Method, and Dr. Olinca Trejo, naturopathic doctor and hormone expert, break down the powerful and often completely overlooked connection between sleep and weight loss. Turns out it has very little to do with willpower.

In this episode:

  • The connection between sleep and your hunger hormones and the domino effect that happens when you're sleep deprived
  • Why ghrelin and leptin (your hunger and fullness hormones) get hijacked when you're not sleeping well, and what that means for your cravings
  • How poor sleep tanks your insulin sensitivity, breaks down muscle instead of fat, and can mimic a pre-diabetic state in as little as one week
  • What cortisol is doing to your body when you're stressed and sleep deprived, and why it makes fat loss nearly impossible
  • What perimenopause does to your sleep, and why the struggle is so much more than just hot flashes
  • The truth about alcohol and your sleep

This is part of our Endy Reclaim Your Rest Sleep Series - helping you wake up rested, focused, and ready to take on whatever the day brings.

Endy is Canada’s leading online mattress brand, trusted by over 1 million sleepers. In this episode, we sit down with journalist, TV host, and podcast powerhouse Melissa Grelo as she opens up about how the pandemic, perimenopause, and a type-A personality collided in the perfect storm. One that had Melissa taking 20+ supplements a day, spending a small fortune on every test imaginable, and ultimately landing in her doctor's office with liver disease.

  • Why the women most committed to their health are often the most vulnerable to the supplement trap
  • Why evidence-based information is your best defence against the wellness industry's very expensive bullsh!t

Your Perimenopausal Sleep Wishes Granted by Endy: Women’s Health, Perimenopause and Menopause Journey16 Apr 202600:35:16

We asked our community what their perimenopause sleep wishes were. Turns out, we’re all looking for the same things: to stay asleep, wake up without pain, stop the duvet dance, and for the love of all things holy, to feel rested again.

In this episode, we sat down with Endy insiders, Erin Gray and Van Kutrowski and discovered that we can’t blame all our sleepless nights on hormones and stress. It could be that our mattresses are the missing piece in our perimenopausal sleep toolkits.

In this episode:

  • Why temperature fluctuations during sleep could be a sign your sleep environment needs an upgrade
  • Why you might be waking up with hip and shoulder pain and why side sleepers need to pay special attention
  • Why the mattress that worked perfectly in your 30s may not be cutting it anymore, because you've changed, even if your mattress hasn't
  • How your partner (or your dog) could be the reason you’re waking at 2 a.m., and what to do about it
  • Why your pillow could be sabotaging an otherwise great mattress, and how to find the right loft for the way you sleep
  • The bedding and layering strategies that work with your cooling mattress instead of against it

Don't miss this one. Let Erin and Van help you reclaim your rest so that you can rise to shine!

How Menopausal Care Should Be with Dr. Michelle Jacobson: Women’s Health, Perimenopause and Menopause Journey01 Apr 202600:46:33

Ever felt dismissed, confused, or just plain abandoned by the healthcare system when it comes to perimenopause? Then this episode is for you.

Meet Dr. Michelle Jacobson, gynecologist, menopause oncology specialist, and co-founder of the virtual clinic Coven Women's Health. She's the doctor other doctors call on complex women’s health issues — and today, she's here for you.

In this episode:

  • Why perimenopausal women are the hardest and most underserved group in women's healthcare; and why even great doctors struggle to help them
  • The truth about the WHI study. What the headlines got wrong, and what the data actually says
  • Why women with a history of cancer don't have to miss out on quality of life and new non-hormonal options available to them
  • The story behind Coven Women's Health and why every patient gets Dr. Jacobson's eyes on their care
  • How you can thrive through perimenopause
  • Why Dr. Jacobson thinks the most important thing you can do right now has nothing to do with hormones

Plus — the meaning behind the names Coven and Hysterical Women (her podcast), and why we all want to be witches now.

This one is packed with the kind of honest, evidence-based, no-BS information that every woman in midlife deserves. We left feeling smarter, more empowered, and honestly a little fired up.

Dr. Michelle Jacobson

Dr. Michelle Jacobson is working to redefine the standard of care for women in Canada by scaling access to her expertise in Menopause, Menopause Oncology, and Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome.

She's been referred to as "the doctor that other doctors call" when they need to consult on complex women's gynaecological health issues. They call her because of her curiosity, education, research, and clinical experience with conditions and symptoms that impact women, from first period to last. They become her respected colleagues and friends because of her reputation as a physician who is incredibly collaborative, caring, and loyal.

Dr. Jacobson is especially passionate about perimenopause and the menopause transition — through her research and clinical practice, she sees how many women unnecessarily experience a decline in quality of life during midlife. She funnels that passion and advocacy into educating other physicians, policymakers, and the general public on the urgency for changes to medical protocols and for greater support for menopausal women.

As a BRCA gene carrier herself, she is equally passionate about assessing and managing hereditary cancer risk. Committed to advancing early detection, treatment, and patient support, her research in this area has led to the development of a national community of practice in hereditary breast and ovarian cancer that she created and chairs.

At the intersection of both of her passions, she has used her research and clinical experience in menopause — particularly premature menopause due to oncologic therapies, hereditary cancer syndromes, and Turner's Syndrome — to provide a niche contribution to the global literature.

Bottom line: she cares deeply for women and their wellbeing, and she is committed to making patient-centric changes to our standard of care.

From responsive desire to dropping unrealistic expectations, this episode offers relief, validation, and real-world strategies for evolving alongside your partner instead of burning out.

If you’ve ever wondered, Why does everything annoy me now?—you’re not alone.

When John learned about the perimenopause crisis – women suffering in silence without access to simple, effective solutions – he knew he had to act. Now he’s part of the Coral team creating personalized care that integrates hormone therapy with lifestyle medicine and coaching.

This conversation proves that when men educate themselves and show up as true allies, everything changes. Whether you're struggling to talk to your partner about what you're experiencing, or you're a man who wants to help but has no idea how, this episode is for you.

Mental Health and Perimenopause with Dr. Ariel Dalfen | Menopause Journey and Midlife Where Suffering is Optional17 Sep 202500:43:30

Dealing with crippling uncontrollable rage, anxiety, and crushing depression? Feeling like you're completely falling apart and your doctor's solution is to just ‘manage your stress’? Not sure if what you're experiencing is depression, perimenopause, or something else entirely?

You're not losing your mind, you're not broken, and you're definitely not alone.

Consider this startling statistic from the SWAN study: a woman’s risk of experiencing depression in the menopause transition is 59% if she has a previous history of depression, and 28% for those without a history of depression. Those are some big numbers. And most women, and their doctors, are unaware of this risk.

Meet Dr. Ariel Dalfen, a psychiatrist who spent 12 years running the largest women's mental health program in Ontario – where she became frustrated watching women suffer unnecessarily. As CEO and Co-founder of BRIA, a revolutionary virtual clinic, Dr. Dalfen and her Co-founder Dr. Bev Young have created the one-stop shop women desperately need: comprehensive, individualized mental health and hormone care that actually works.

In This Episode

  • Why some women's brains are "hormonally sensitive" and how to identify if you're one of them
  • The critical questions about your reproductive history that can predict your perimenopause experience
  • How to distinguish between perimenopause symptoms, depression, and PMDD
  • Why tracking your cycles gives healthcare providers game-changing data
  • The non-negotiables for mental health survival in midlife
  • How BRIA's team-based approach stops women from falling through the cracks
  • The stigma that’s keeping women silent about their struggles
  • Dr. Dalfen’s new "Menopause Mental Health Certification" program

If you've been suffering alone or thinking this is just how midlife feels, this conversation will change everything. Dr. Dalfen will show you there's so much more than just surviving – and how to start thriving.

Breaking Patterns That Keep You Small: Women’s Health, Perimenopause and Menopause Journey09 Jul 202500:54:52

Ever wonder why you keep repeating the same relationship patterns? Why you apologize for everything, even when it's not your fault? Or why you logically understand what needs to change but emotionally can't get there?

Dr. Justine Corry, trauma-informed relationship coach and former clinical psychologist, explains why this happens - and how to break free from these patterns for good.

In this powerful conversation, Dr. Corry introduces schema therapy, a game-changing approach that looks at patterns rather than symptoms. She explains how childhood experiences create mental frameworks (schemas) that influence how we show up in relationships, and why perimenopause triggers these patterns in overwhelming ways.

Each episode will share life stories and expert insight into women's health and your perimenopause and menopause journey.

In this episode

  • What schema therapy is and why understanding patterns is more powerful than managing symptoms
  • The six common schemas plaguing high-achieving women: abandonment, emotional deprivation, defectiveness, self-sacrifice, subjugation, and unrelenting standards
  • Why perimenopause acts as a schema trigger, making it harder to power through life while ignoring your needs
  • How to recognize when you're having a "schema trigger" vs. a rational response
  • Why self-trust and self-respect are the best antidepressants you've never tried
  • The difference between being "self-led" vs. constantly seeking external validation
  • How long real pattern change takes (spoiler: it's not quick, but it's worth it)
  • Practical tools like the SIFT exercise to understand your emotional responses in real time

There's always a "why" behind your emotions, even when you can't see it. Let Dr. Corry help you uncover yours.

Dr. Justine Corry

Dr. Justine Corry is a trauma-informed relationship coach and former clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience guiding women through deep emotional healing. Her superpower? Helping high-achieving, deeply giving women break the patterns that keep them small, silent, and stuck in relationships that no longer fit. Through a powerful blend of schema therapy, nervous system wisdom, and sharp emotional insight, Dr. Corry helps women rebuild self-trust, reclaim their voice, and step into lives where they no longer have to shrink to belong.

Her signature 5-step Relationship Reinvention Method guides women to understand their self-sabotaging patterns, prioritise their emotional needs, and create relationships that feel balanced, respectful, and real. What sets Justine apart is her ability to help smart, self-aware women who’ve already done the work bridge the gap between knowing what’s wrong and finally doing something different. Whether they’re navigating the aftermath of divorce or separation or leading in business and life while secretly battling patterns like over-functioning, perfectionism, and people-pleasing, Justine helps women unravel the emotional blueprints that kept them stuck, so they can thrive in love, leadership, and self-trust from the inside out.

Dr. Corry’s Signature Program: Your Relationship Reinvention is a 6-month group experience for women navigating life after divorce, separation, or a significant breakup. It’s designed to help you break the patterns that no longer serve you (like people-pleasing, poor boundaries, and over-functioning) so you can rebuild self-trust and create a life that feels grounded, honest, and fully yours. Because the version of you that was in that relationship isn’t the one who’s going to create what comes next, and this next chapter can be your best one yet.

Getting Fired Up with Shirley Weir: Women’s Health, Perimenopause and Menopause Journey25 Jun 202500:46:29

The OG menopause trailblazer is back on The TIP Podcast to share what she’s been up to. And she’s been busy. In the last year Shirley Weir has launched a new platform called The Nest, a soft place for Menopause Chicks to land and her Facebook group hit 59,0000 members.

Shirley worked with the Women’s Health Research Network in BC to support the HER-BC study, investigating the health experiences of midlife women and the impacts of menopause. She created Speak Menopause, to help us focus on the agency we each have when it comes to decisions about our own health.

And never one to rest on her laurels, on her birthday she crafted a list of the 58 things she wants to see change in women’s health in the next 42 years, before she turns 100. Today she’s giving us a sneak peek and inspiring us to help make her list a reality.

In This Episode

  • Less than 7% of all health research dollars are allocated to women’s research, and that number has not changed in 13 years
  • Why our medical providers need at least as much information, direction, and input as we provide to our hairdressers
  • Why Shirley is done with the pervasive gatekeeping in women’s health
  • Why we all need to take recurring UTIs more seriously, and
  • The alarming numbers involved in Pad Math: incontinence pads are meant to be temporary, not a solution.

We all deserve to feel amazing. Thank you, Shirley, for your dedication to helping us figure out how to make that happen.

Suffering Is Optional: Women's Health, Perimenopause and Menopause Journey28 May 202500:45:54

Each episode will share life stories and expert insight into women's health and your perimenopause and menopause journey.

**Correction**  Dr. Jen mentions a breast cancer risk of 8/1,000 in this episode; she meant 8/10,000.

"Vaginal estrogen should just be over the counter at this point," says Dr. Jennifer Zelovitzky. This is just one of the many facts she shares that'll change how you think about menopause care. As the clinical director of women's health at MedCan Toronto, Dr. Jen isn't just pushing back against outdated medical beliefs—she's showing us how women are suffering needlessly because doctors are treating menopause based on fear instead of facts.

With incredible clarity and genuine compassion, Dr. Jen connects the dots between your hot flashes, middle-of-the-night wake-ups, and anxiety attacks, giving you the evidence-based insights to get better care from a medical system that has let women down. "Hormone therapy is held to a higher standard than literally any other treatment out there," she points out, and her breakdown of the double standards will leave you nodding along and ready to take action.

In This Episode

  • Why most doctors miss perimenopause symptoms and how to get them to listen
  • The truth about hormone therapy safety that wasn't covered in your doctor's half-day of menopause training
  • How micronized progesterone is different from the progestins used in the WHI study
  • Why guidelines are called "guidelines" not "rules," and why this matters for your care
  • The truth about vaginal estrogen safety and why warning labels are misleading
  • The connection between estrogen and serotonin that explains your shifting mental health
  • How to stand your ground when your family doctor tries to take you off hormone therapy that's working
  • What makes the MedCan six-month program different from standard menopause care
  • A preview of Dr. Jen's new educational course that puts expert knowledge within everyone's reach

Whether you're just starting to notice changes or you've achieved menopause, Dr. Jen's holistic approach and straight-talk will help you advocate for the care you deserve. Because as she puts it, "Menopause is inevitable, but suffering is completely optional."

"It's not just about HRT or not...it's about realizing that the landscape has changed, and the playbook has changed. Full stop."

Powerful words from Dr. Kirsten Smith set the stage for an enlightening conversation about what women really need during the menopause transition. • The shocking connection between hormonal changes and mental health, including increased suicide risk in women aged 45-55
  • Why conventional antidepressants might fail during perimenopause
  • The art and science of hormone dosing, and why your perfect dose might be completely different from your friend's
  • Red flags that your hormone dose might need adjustment

  • Practical strategies for building a complete approach to lasting health during menopause and beyond

For over 16 years, Dr. Kirsten Smith has redefined care for women navigating perimenopause and menopause, blending cutting-edge evidence-informed science with the wisdom of naturopathic medicine. Based between Ontario’s forests and Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, Dr. Smith aims for the balance she teaches: mornings analyzing menopause research and doing patient consults, afternoons surfing with her son. This synergy of science and nature fuels her mission to reclaim midlife as a launchpad for women - not an expiration date. Dr. Smith's mission goes beyond treating patients; her legacy is cultivating a movement where women approach menopause with knowledge and agency, not fear.
