The limited release that crosses loves for many bourbon and beer lovers has once again found its way to our glasses. That storied, bourbon barrel finished imperial stout, hailing from the great northern state of...Illinois...comes to us at a hearty 14.8% ABV this time around. Yet, there's something quite different about the presentation and packaging this time around for the Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout...how peculiar. Does it matter, in the end? Perhaps...perhaps not. But, what we really care about is what that deep, black liquid inside tastes like and whether it's worth picking it up. It's hard to put into words what this weekly podcast about bourbon has meant to me over the past 8 years and 400 episodes. I've laughed a lot (too much, for some people), cried (too much, by own measure), and brought the bourbon industry to light in the best way I have always sought fit. This week, as I continue to make the same mark, I review this year's edition of the Four Roses Small Batch Limited Edition. Should this be heralded as one of the best releases of 2025? How do three 13 year bourbons compose themselves against a 19 year batch? Is it possible that I've just been waxing poetic this whole time because I'm worried that I need to fill space but am also hoping that you've read this far (comment below if you have)?!?!? The newest celebrity whiskey has officially hit the markets. With Kentuckian Chris Stapleton's venture into the whiskey world, we're seeing just how far these distillers and producers are willing to go to create an accessible and delicious bottle of brown water. The country musician teamed up with Buffalo Trace Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley to meticulously craft "Traveller," the 40th blend of whiskeys the pair had tried and landed on to be bottled for the market. At $40 a bottle, is this another cash grab or something truly special for music and whiskey lovers alike? Let's find out together, and maybe we'll even play a Stapleton song (or two)! In celebration of those who are partaking (or aren't, I guess) in a first-of-the-year tradition known as "Dry January," we take some time this week to see what life would be like it our wills weren't as strong but our persuasions were true. Eric and Perry (me, that's me) drink through plenty of non-alcohol spirits, including Budweiser Zero, a red blend from New Zealand, a TERRIBLE rum alternative, and some of the worst "whiskeys" that we've ever tried to suffer through in our lives. As the year wraps up and we begin creating our fabled "Best of the Year" lists, it's nice to take some time last-minute and drink on products that we hadn't gotten the chance to before now. In a follow up to an episode that now lives in infamy in the halls of TIMBP, Perry and Eric welcome David Jennings, AKA RareBird101, to set the record straight on the first bourbon and rye releases of Pride of Anderson County. It's an enlightening podcast conversation with Dave as we deep dive on the current state of the bourbon market, both primary and secondary, and the ways in which they have set up the current price struggles facing the modern bourbon consumer. Perry and Eric also have the chance to taste one of the POAC bourbons and the rye alongside RareBird, and what they find out is a revelation. Enjoy.
