REPLAY: Endometriosis and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome - Is There a Connection?24 May 202500:13:24

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a group of 13 conditions which all affect connective tissue (collagen) in the body. Most are rare, but one type called hypermobility EDS is common. Because the intestines are made from soft tissue, EDS affects digestion and often causes IBS symptoms. It is a major risk factor for developing SIBO, because it slows down motility. If you have EDS and SIBO, you will be chronic - but you can still live well! And we’ll get to that in the bonus lesson with Dr Allison Siebecker.

And just to hammer this point home about the connection between EDS and IBS, one study of 228 IBS patients found 48% also had EDS.

Now the reason why I want to bring EDS to your attention is because I am seeing it more and more in my clients with both endometriosis and SIBO.

Despite these statistics, to my knowledge, most experts do not consider EDS and endometriosis to be significantly connected. At present, it is thought that most of the period pain and menstrual problems of those with EDS is not caused by endometriosis, but EDS itself.

However, I have spoken to multiple health care practitioners who do see a connection and see the two conditions together in patients, and because EDS can cause gut problems and SIBO, I think it’s worth raising here.

REPLAY: The Link Between Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders, Hypermobile-EDS, MCAS and Endometriosis with Dr. Linda Bluestein16 May 202501:02:20

Dr. Linda Bluestein is a board-certified anesthesiologist, integrative pain medicine physician and former ballet dancer who specialises in coaching and educating dancers and other athletes and individuals at increased risk of hypermobility disorders.

Dr Linda’s own experience with h-EDS eventually led her down a career path change that has seen her help countless others to live well with hypermobility and avoid chronic pain development. She is widely published, considered an expert on hypermobility disorders, and has lectured internationally.

In this episode, Dr Linda and I sit down to discuss the link between Hypermobility spectrum disorders, hypermobile-Ehler’s Danlos syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome and endometriosis.

Here’s what we cover:

  • What we mean by generalised hypermobility, hypermobility spectrum disorders and hypermobility-EDS, and how they differ.

  • What are the signs and symptoms of these conditions.

  • The link between h-EDS and menstrual disorders, bladder dysfunction and pelvic pain and Dr Linda’s approach to addressing these problems.

  • What mast cell activation syndrome is, how it is associated with hypermobility and EDS, and how it may be a driver behind EDS and endometriosis.

  • The link between SIBO and h-EDS and connective tissue disorders.

  • Dr. Linda’s key strategies for managing symptomatic hypermobility and h-EDS.

Being Low in This Fatty Acid Could Worsen Your Period (and Endo) Pain07 Mar 202500:13:12

Today we’re continuing with our discussion on low nutrient levels and their association with period pain. Menstruation is often (though not always) one of the most painful parts of the menstrual cycle, for people with endometriosis - and a connection we see between both dysmenorrhea (which is the medical term for period pain) and endometriosis, is low omega 3 fatty acids.

Omega 3 fatty acids are the precursors to anti-inflammatory prostaglandins; which basically means omega 3 makes our anti-inflammatory prostaglandins. In contrast, omega 6 makes our inflammatory prostaglandins, namely prostaglandin E2. And for those of who don’t know, prostaglandins, in the simplest of terms, are immune chemicals.

Understanding Red Meat and Endometriosis with Katie Edmonds08 May 202301:24:14

Okay, so before we dive into this episode I’m just going to give a huge disclaimer and trigger warning. This episode is about red meat, breaking down the misunderstanding around red meat for endo and the nutritional benefits of red meat for the endo community. It is evidence based and I hope I have done my best to provide a balanced approach in this conversation, however, this discussion won’t be for everyone.

So, today’s episode is with the amazing Katie Edmonds. Katie is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, educator, and author, specializing in helping women with endo. She's the creator of HealEndo.com, a free and comprehensive resource for anyone with endometriosis. She's the author of The 4-week Endometriosis Diet Plan and Heal Endo: An Anti-Inflammatory Approach to Healing From Endometriosis

 In today’s episode, we discuss:

  • Where the fear of red meat for endometriosis comes from in the endo world.
  • Why this information is misleading and, more importantly, problematic for the endo body.
  • The benefits of red meat for the body and why you may want to consider adding it in to your diet.
  • Real reasons why people with endo can and do feel better when they remove red meat, but why this still doesn't mean red meat is bad.
  • The three tiers of meat priority: 100% grass-fed, organic, or factory farmed.
  • How to properly eat red meat to gain the most nutritional benefits.
  • If people don't want to eat red meat for ethical or religious reasons, what they can do to ensure they get enough nutrients.

Treating Chronic and Hidden UTIs in Endo and Interstitial Cystitis Patients with Catherine and Lauren Lee of Semaine26 Apr 202301:24:56

Today’s episode we have some returning guests, my friends and co-founders of Semaine, Lauren and Catherine Lee! If you haven’t listened to my first episode with them, I really recommend you check that episode out to hear their endometriosis stories and all about founding supplement company, Semaine. But let’s do a quick recap for those of you who aren’t familiar…

Catherine and Lauren started Semaine Health several years ago to address period pain and hormonal imbalances with plant-based, science-backed supplements.

After decades of painful periods and suffering from stage II and stage IV endometriosis, Catherine and Lauren created the solution they were looking for: a plant-based anti-inflammatory supplement to help lessen their pain while supporting their overall health.

Cath and Lar are driven by the desire to empower other women who have experienced pain and discomfort, who are looking for answers rather than being dismissed or told their symptoms are normal.

In this episode, we’re talking about one of their fairly new products, Urinary Cleanse & Protect. Research shows that up to 80% of people with endometriosis also suffer with interstitial cystitis, a chronic bladder pain condition, and for many of us, finding relief is incredibly difficult. Some specialists believe that hidden and embedded UTIs are to blame for a number of cases, and having performed advanced UTI testing myself, I can now say that two hidden UTIs, which have been present for coming up to two decades, are one of the major factors contributing to my bladder issues. Semaine actually sent me a sample to try and I am so surprised by the symptom improvement that I wanted to get them on to talk about this!

So, in today’s episode we are discussing:

  • The ingredients in Urinary Cleanse and Protect and how they compare to other UTI treatments on the market and in the research.
  • How effective these ingredients are for clearing UTIs and the evidence and trials demonstrating this.
  • The problem of biofilms within the IC and UTI community, and whether their product can help to address that issue.
  • The feedback they’ve had so far from the IC/endo community.
  • How someone with recurrent UTIs/chronic UTIs/IC best use this supplement.

Running a Successful Business with Endo with Lux Perry of Somedays17 Apr 202301:16:55

Today on the show I have the pleasure of speaking with Lux Perry.

Lux Perry is the Co-founder of somedays and if you aren’t familiar with the brand, I really recommend you check them out. somedays provides natural period pain relief products that are backed by science. Their mission is to de-normalise period pain and to empower people to transform their relationship to pain and take control of their body.

Lux lived with unexplained chronic pain and horrific periods since they were nine years old, and like many of us, spent years and years being dismissed. Their experience with pain, their endo diagnosis and their personal journey with their body, led them to co-found somedays with Cassandra Naud and Annabelle Price back in 2021, and they’ve been lighting the period care world on fire ever since!

In this episode Lux and I are talking about one of my favourite topics that I don’t usually get to share here – running a business with a chronic illness.

We discuss:

  • Lux’s story and their motivation behind somedays.
  • The challenges and benefits of starting a business with endometriosis and how they navigated these in the early days of the start-up.
  • The everyday running of a business with a chronic illness, and how the team work together to create an inclusive community and work ethos that allows for not just flexibility but thriving.
  • How their products work and the science behind them.
  • Their viral campaign and the reaction they’ve received from the world in response to their mission to de-normalise period pain.

Structural Support, Pain Signals, and Endometriosis20 Mar 202300:37:50

This is the third in my IG Live series for Endometriosis Awareness Month. I get a lot of great feedback from listeners when I share my IG Lives on the podcast, so I’m doing it again!

Each week is themed on an area of healing with endo, and this week we’re talking about structural problems and pain signals. Structural issues like adhesions can affect not just pain but symptoms such as endo belly and urinary frequency or even difficulty emptying the bladder, so addressing this is a crucial part of healing.

These IG Lives revolve around your questions, so if you want to submit one, follow me on Instagram @theendobellycoach and send me a question when you see my Stories calling for submissions.

This week I’m answering…

  • What’s causing painful sex after excision surgery? If it’s adhesions, what can we do?
  • How do endo-related adhesions cause SIBO?
  • What range of symptoms can adhesions on the bowel cause?
  • Is there a way to assess your own pelvic floor?

If you want to learn more about how structural support fits into a healing plan for endo, join my free Endo Awareness Month Masterclass - The Five Key Pillars of Healing: How to Lower Endo Symptoms and Take Back Control Without the Overwhelm.

This two-hour masterclass will take you through the pivotal first sessions I have with every client to determine their own personal roadmap and then the proven key pillars of healing that I've used to help my clients experience symptom relief and finally get their endo under control time and time again.

The best bit? I’ve removed the fluff, the excess and the confusion to deliver you the clearest, most effective strategies that will get you results quicker and without the overwhelm.

Sign up to the free masterclass here.

In this workshop you will:

  1. Define your why to motivate you and anchor you if things get tough and give you the momentum to get going.
  2. Identify Your Core Endo Challenges so that you can prioritise focusing on the symptoms that are affecting you the most, rather than having to tackle everything all at once.
  3. Get Clear on Your Desired Symptom Outcomes so that you can see where your roadmap is going and put the right healing strategies in place to get there. What could you do if you felt better?
  4. Learn the Key Pillars of Healing so you can establish which strategies to start first and which to begin later in your journey.
  5. Set Your Goals and create 1-3 baby steps that you can map out your journey and get started with right away.

Endo, Blood Sugar, and Hormone Balance15 Mar 202300:55:57

This is the second in my IG Live series for Endometriosis Awareness Month. I get a lot of great feedback from listeners when I share my IG Lives on the podcast, so I’m doing it again!

Each week is themed on an area of healing with endo, and this week we’re talking about endo, blood sugar and hormone balance.

These IG Lives revolve around your questions, so if you want to submit one, follow me on Instagram @theendobellycoach and send me a question when you see my Stories calling for submissions.

This week I’m answering…

  • Do blood sugar levels change dependent on the stage of the menstrual cycle?
  • How do fluctuating blood sugar levels impact food cravings throughout the cycle?
  • How does blood sugar affect sex hormones?
  • How to solve PCOS acne?

If you want to learn more about how blood sugar fits into a healing plan for endo, join my free Endo Awareness Month Masterclass - The Five Key Pillars of Healing: How to Lower Endo Symptoms and Take Back Control Without the Overwhelm.

I’m holding this masterclass on three different dates throughout March:

  • Thursday 16th March, 6pm GMT
  • Wednesday 22nd March, 6.30pm GMT
  • Thursday 30th March, 7pm BST

Being Low in These Minerals Could Worsen Your Period (and Endo) Pain28 Feb 202500:15:23

This week I want to highlight three key minerals that when you’re low in, can cause you more period pain. These have all been associated with endo in the research too, and of course, as a classic symptom of endo is horrific period pain, replenishing these minerals could help you improve your experience of your period with endometriosis,

Your Cyclical Tea Plan for Endo27 Feb 202300:18:24

This is the wrap up week of the Ease Endo Tea Challenge.

So, how did you find the tea challenge? Hopefully, you've experienced some changes - or your period/endo pain wasn't as bad as you thought it might be following the festive season!

Don't worry if you don't feel dramatic change yet - remember, this was all about dipping your toe in and giving you easy, quick tools to get started with and steady consistency, even with habits as small as tea, is when we'll start to notice changes.

Okay so now you've tried all the teas, here's how you might want to use them moving forward:

Menstruation: Nettle tea and ginger

Menstruation is the time when inflammation and histamines are going to be high, and iron is going to be low. The ginger will address the pain and inflammation, whilst the nettle will replenish iron loss and also lower any histamines contributing to pain.

Follicular: Dandelion

This is the phase when our oestrogen is building, and whilst we do want a lovely healthy amount of oestrogen, we want to be clearing it out properly once it's been used up. That's where dandelion comes in and can help support our oestrogen detoxification in this stage to ensure it doesn't contribute to oestrogen excess in the later phases of our cycle.

Ovulation: Peppermint

Ovulation is a time that can bring bloating due to the high levels of hormones and the inflammation which occurs as part of the ovulatory process. If you struggle with bloating during this time, peppermint can really aid you there!

If ovulation is a particularly painful part of your cycle, then feel free to also bring in ginger and/or nettle, which will both address the inflammation levels (though ginger is better for pain relief).

Luteal: Ginger and dandelion

Once we've ovulated, inflammation begins to build in our uterus right up until menstruation, so to keep those pre-menstrual aches and pains down, and to reduce the pain you experience on your period, you can begin drinking ginger in your luteal phase.

If this challenge has you motivated to continue on your endo healing journey, I have plenty of other resources to help you along the way.

Lowering Histamine Levels with Nettle Tea20 Feb 202300:16:37

This is week three of our Ease Endo Tea Challenge. If you’d like to receive a copy of each week’s challenge with all the references, research, doses and info, sign up to the challenge via email. I’ve linked to the sign-up page in my show notes. You can also hop over to Instagram and comment, ask questions or share pics of your challenge so far.

This week, we're easing histamine levels, and as a result, pain and inflammation!

The Symptom

Did you know that histamine is involved in growth and inflammation of endometriosis? Mast cells, the immune cells which release histamines, have been found in high levels within and around endometriosis lesions - and the research shows that the higher the number, the more intense the pain.

The involvement of mast cells and histamines is so integral to the growth and symptoms of endometriosis, that researchers are now calling for mast cell focused immune treatments for endo.

Additionally, histamines are involved in both menstruation and ovulation. Their inflammatory nature helps with the shedding of the uterine lining, but too high levels during our period or ovulation could mean excessive pain.

In my experience as an endo health coach, many of my clients respond well to supplements, tools and lifestyle changes that lower histamines or stabilise mast cells. Now, luckily, this doesn't mean adopting a low histamine diet! In fact, I generally see that as a last resort, because it can feel fairly restrictive, and because often it's only required in clients who genuinely have very strong reactions to histamines.

For many of us with endo, just lowering histamine levels with tools that calm down the mast cells, is enough to see a difference in our endo symptoms.

Here are some other facts about endo and histamines:

  • 61% of people with endo have been found to have allergies.
  • People with endometriosis are significantly more like to have a family history of allergies.
  • People with endo have been found to be four times more likely to have allergies.

So, chances are, you have allergies! And as histamines are released in response to a potential allergen/threat, by calming down mast cells, we can in turn calm down our allergies and our endo pain!

So this week, we're drinking nettle tea.

How to Beat Endo Belly with Peppermint13 Feb 202300:16:46

This week, we're easing the endo belly!

Did you know the endo belly might not be just caused by endometriosis?

In fact, it's most likely not!

Whilst the inflammation from endometriosis can definitely cause the endo belly at certain times of your cycle or make it worse, there are other contributing factors.

  • Fluctuating hormones can be a cause - progesterone in the second half of your cycle slows gut motility down, leading to more accumulation of gas and waste in your intestines, which might create some bloating.
  • The changes in oestrogen and progesterone in the second half of your cycle can contribute to water retention and bloating, and are worse when hormones are out of balance, especially in the case of oestrogen dominance.
  • Adhesions from surgery or from the inflammation caused by endo, can stick to intestines and cause issues with the motility (or flow), creating pockets of swelling and gas, leading to bloating.
  • Research has shown that people with endo tend to have some level of microbiome dysbiosis, which is an imbalance of the bacteria in our intestines, which can cause bloating.
  • Research is showing that up to 80% of people with endo also have small intestine bacterial overgrowth, and the classic symptom of SIBO is a big, bloated belly.

There are many other potential factors contributing to your own personal endo belly, from coeliac disease (which is common in the endo community) to chronic stress. To learn more about the possible causes, have a listen to this podcast.

Clearly, there are multiple areas to possibly address when it comes to healing the endo belly, and we're not going to solve it all with just tea, but the first step is for us to get you feeling a little better so you have the encouragement, energy and health to even consider those steps...

So this week, we're drinking peppermint tea.

The Benefits of Dandelion for Hormone Balance and Endo Symptoms06 Feb 202300:18:04

This week, we’re supporting the liver, which in turn, will help support our hormones.

Did you know the liver plays a crucial role in balancing our levels of oestrogen?

Once we've used up our oestrogen for the day, it's sent to the liver to package it up and get it ready for removal. It's then sent to the gut and leaves us through daily bowel movements. BUT, in this day and age, the liver is often overburdened with more important waste like sugar, caffeine, medication, pollutants, toxins from beauty and body products, smoking, alcohol, etc.

When it has these guys to also clean out, it will put oestrogen to the back of the queue because these are more harmful to the body and need to be cleared out. The result is we start stacking up the oestrogen, creating excess oestrogen levels.

Following Christmas, it's pretty likely that most of us are going to have livers that are needing a bit more support, whether we've had more alcohol, eaten more sugar, drank more caffeine or simply used more make up and fancy body products.

So, this week, we're giving the liver a bit of a helping hand with dandelion tea.

The Benefits of Ginger Tea for Endo Belly and Endo Pain30 Jan 202300:22:38

January can often be the hardest time for those of us with endometriosis. The joys and delights of December for many menstruators can cause hormonal issues come January, and for those of us with endometriosis, it can be even more problematic.

Instead of diving in headfirst with a hard-core challenge, I'd prefer to offer you some solutions that are gentle on the body, mind and spirit - because honestly, I think it's unsustainable for us to have to jump into a completely new health routine as soon as the clock strikes 12 on the 1st.

Especially if we're feeling unwell with flared endo symptoms, in the dead of winter, when the human body still wants to take it slow and gentle.

So, two weeks ago I launched my Ease Endo Tea Challenge. I did it last year, and almost 300 people joined and experienced symptom improvement with the teas I shared with the group. This year I’m bringing it back, and initially began running it as I usually do, via email, but as I was putting the emails together, I was just thinking how useful the info was and how many more people would benefit if I made it a challenge across all of my platforms, so I brought it to IG and now I’m bringing it to the podcast! You can follow along just by listening to the show, but if you’d like to get a copy of all the info, the resources and research I’m sharing, I do encourage you to sign up to the email version because you’ll get all this info sent to your inbox directly and you can save it in a folder and just pull it out whenever you’d like. You can also hop over to Instagram and join in with the community there, comment with your questions or let us know how you’re getting on and share pics of you drinking your tea!

So, for the next few weeks, I’ll be running this free challenge here on the podcast.

Vagus Nerve Toning for Endo and Co-conditions With Stefan Chmelik23 Jan 202300:59:03

In today’s episode, I’m interviewing Stefan Chmelik, inventor of Sensate, Integrated Healthcare Physician, author, teacher and founder of the New Medicine Group in Harley Street, London.

In this episode, Stefan and I are talking about the vagus nerve and the nervous system, and how together, they work to support our health - and how when they’re not working properly, they can impact or even trigger certain conditions.

In today’s episode we discuss -

  • What is the vagus nerve and what is its role in the body?
  • How does the vagus nerve regulate our stress response?
  • Can the vagus nerve become damaged or impaired and what effect does this have on the body?
  • What is heart rate variability and how can we use this to understand our vagus nerve health?
  • How can we improve the health of our vagus nerve and can Sensate aid with this?
  • Can Sensate improve symptoms of endo/associated conditions such as accelerated heart rate, palpitations, gut health problems, anxiety and chronic pain?
  • What would be the most effective way to use Sensate for these issues?

Not only is Stefan a leader in integrated health care and vagal toning, but he’s also just the most compassionate, thoughtful and loveliest man to talk to, and I really enjoyed his conversation! If you’re interested in actually working with Stefan at his clinic or with his team, I’ve also just dropped the link to his Harley Street practice in the show notes.

REPLAY: Five Fatigue and Brain Fog Hacks for Endo16 Jan 202300:27:28

Whilst like many people, I’m a bit over the whole ‘new year, new me’ message, I do like to start the year feeling well and focused. Now that does look a little bit different for me versus what you’d expect for January. I actually don’t love the whole drinking cold smoothies, juice cleansing and going out for early morning jobs in Jan. I don’t believe that’s what my body wants. It’s always felt quite jarring for me, that we’re yanked from the dead of winter into a routine that is better suited to spring. Instead, I like to take January as slowly as is possible in a fast paced world. I focus on warming, nourishing foods, as much rest as I can fit in, and movement that feels good to my body - which tends to be yoga and pilates right now.

However, I know personally how all of your best efforts can be thrown out the window if fatigue and brain fog are affecting you, and whether you’re someone like me, who prefers to ease your way into the new year, or whether you’re a new year bunny, charging full steam ahead, I’m sure you want to feel as energised as you can with endo, and to be able to think clearly.

That’s why today I am resharing this episode on some of my favourite brain fog and fatigue hacks.

Now, before we dive in - I want to state that the root cause should be investigated, rather than just slapping superfood biohacks over the problem. Chronic inflammation, dysregulated blood sugar and hormonal imbalances are just some of the issues that can be behind your brain fog and fatigue, not just the endometriosis alone. But I know you guys are keen for some solutions you can add to your daily routines to make your lives easier, so whilst we’ve been exploring inflammation, hormonal balance, etc. on the show and will continue to do so, I also wanted to give you some easy strategies that might give you a boost and ease these symptoms…

Rosemary

Rosemary has been shown to increase memory speed, recall and accuracy in multiple small studies on both humans and animals. However, the types of rosemary varied. A low dose of rosemary powder improved memory speed, whereas drinking rosemary water caused just a small improvement in cognitive function.

Lion’s Mane

Lion’s mane is one of my favourites - not only is it anti-inflammatory, it’s been shown in various studies to aid with cognitive function. Lion’s mane has been found to improve memory and significantly aid cognitive function. Additionally, it’s been shown to have protective mechanisms which can reduce cognitive decline that comes with age and disease such as dementia.

Cordyceps

Cordyceps is another mushroom that I really love. Various studies now show that cordyceps increases energy and endurance by delivering more oxygen to the muscles and brain. Other studies have shown that cordyceps improves brain function, but more human research needs to done on this.

Curcumin

Okay, maybe my favourite one of them all. You know how much I love curcumin (the active compound found in turmeric) for lowering inflammation and directly targeting endometriosis (by reducing oestrogen levels inside the endo cells and suppressing growth).

Cacao

Yes! Chocolate! Cacao has been shown to improve memory, cognitive performance and speed, and you guessed it - support brain-derived neurotrophic factor and protecting the brain from cognitive decline.

REPLAY: You Don't Have to Manage Endo Perfectly11 Jan 202300:52:23

So today’s episode is a replay whilst I record with my next batch of exciting guests! But I actually think this replay is necessary…

This podcast episode isn’t very old, it only came out in June 2022, but this time of year is full of messages about health, wellness, goals, resolutions, etc. and whilst I of course encourage healthy habits and lifestyle changes, doing this sustainably and in a way that we enjoy and that fits our lives is important. If we try to do everything all at once and hold ourselves to extreme standards, we’re going to burn out and feel pretty rubbish about ourselves when we can’t keep it all up because we’re exhausted or they weren’t realistic to start with.

If you have ideas of changing up your experience of endo in 2023, then I am fully in support of that, but I want you to go into it knowing you don’t have to do it perfectly and you don’t have to do it all at once and that’s why I’m resharing this episode today.

DNA Testing for Endometriosis with Kat Smith02 Jan 202300:50:09

On today’s episode, I’m speaking with my friend and colleague, Kat Smith!

Kat was diagnosed with stage IV endometriosis in 2009 and after years of decisions being made for her, took ownership of her own health by training as a nutritional therapist. Kat is a Lifecode Gx registered nutrigenomics practitioner who specialises in DNA testing. Kat's passion is empowering women with the mindset and nervous system tools to confront their trauma, which she believes is the missing piece in endometriosis management.

In today’s episode, Kat and I are talking about how she uses genetic testing to help people with endo focus on their priority health areas with tailored and individual changes.

In this episode we discuss:

  • What DNA testing for endo is and why Kat uses it.
  • The areas of genetic testing Kat typically focuses on with endo clients.
  • Examples of gene variations and how someone may adapt their endo care/approach to better support these.

In this episode I use a lot of my own health examples so that Kat and I can demonstrate how genetic testing may work! But remember, everyone is different - so it’s best to test rather than guess with genetics!

REPLAY: A Meditation for an Endometriosis Pain Flare with Kate McGoey28 Dec 202200:28:59

In this episode, mindfulness teacher Kate McGoey takes us through a calming meditation for endometriosis.

Christmas was just a few days ago and New Year’s Eve is at the end of the week.

Often, the stress, busyness and certain foods like a little extra chocolate or alcohol, can trigger pain flares. The festive period can be one of the hardest times to experience a pain flare, so today I’m resharing a meditation for pain by Kate McGoey.

This meditation is short but sweet, and is actually taken from an IG live I did with Kate during Covid, so the sound quality might not be great, but the meditation is wonderful!

Nutrient Doses to Support Progesterone Production21 Feb 202500:15:49

Okay so last week we looked at foods to eat more of to support progesterone production. Today, we’re going to discuss the supplement forms of these nutrients and the doses to take.

Before we get into it, I have given a lot of warnings for each supplement. This is because I want you to have all the information, including possible side effects, so you can make an informed decision and so you understand what’s happening if you do experience side effects. But to be clear, most of the side effects occur with high doses, over prolonged periods of times, with the exceptions occurring rarely in individuals who are particularly sensitive or have other issues going on that have affected how they respond or tolerate these supplements.

How POTS and Dysautonomia Treatment Differs for Patients with Endometriosis with Dr Stephanie Harrod19 Dec 202200:57:53

Dr. Stephanie Harrod is a doctor of physical therapy specialising in women’s health - in particular, endometriosis. In her patients, she often sees endo alongside SIBO and interstitial cystitis, but also hypermobility/EDS and POTS.

Stephanie saw these patterns in so many patients, that she began developing protocols to support people with endo not just with their pelvic health and pelvic pain, but with all of these co-conditions, that often have an impact on endo and overall health.

In today’s episode, Stephanie and I talk about her personalised approach for managing POTS/dysatuonomia with endometriosis and how these strategies differ from typical POTS treatment to better support endometriosis.

In this episode we discuss:

  • How managing POTS with endo differs from managing POTS alone and why.
  • How to effectively use salt for POTS and dysautonomia management.
  • The types of exercises that are better suited for POTS and how we can adapt them for endo.
  • The lifestyle modifications and tools we can use to manage the day to day symptoms of POTS.

How Hormones Impact ADHD and the Link Between ADHD, EDS, Dysautonomia and Pain Syndromes with Adele Wimsett12 Dec 202200:52:42

Did you know that ADHD has been linked to patients with joint hypermobility, pain and dysautonomia?

Given that endometriosis is now being associated more and more with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and hypermobility spectrum disorders, as well as POTS and dysautonomia, that means that there could be a reasonable percentage of people with endo also living with ADHD.

So today on the podcast, I’m joined by Adele Wimsett to discuss this topic further. Adele Wimsett is a Women’s Health Practitioner specialising in cyclical awareness, education, hormone balance and ADHD.

After being diagnosed with ADHD at 41, Adele went onto discover the many ways in which hormones and the stages of the menstrual cycle can affect ADHD traits.

In today’s episode, Adele shares with us her story, the ways in which hormones impact ADHD and how we can work with our cycles to improve our experience of ADHD.

In this episode we discuss:

  • What ADHD is
  • Why it presents differently in females and cyclical people and what this means for diagnosis
  • How hormones affect ADHD traits
  • What impact hormones have on traits during different hormonal phases of a cyclical person’s life
  • How we can support our hormones to live an adhd friendly lifestyle.

Why You Have PMS and the Easy Steps to Healing with Dr Saru Bala07 Dec 202200:47:01

Dr. Saru Bala is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor with a degree from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington and prior to attending medical school, she received her Bachelor's degree in Neurobiology from the University of Texas at Austin. She has done extra training in the areas of women’s health and naturopathic endocrinology. Her passion area and primary focus with patients is managing chronic hormonal issues such as PMS, period pain, heavy bleeding, fibroids, endometriosis, Hashimoto's, fertility, and other hormonal health concerns.

Not only is she a walking wealth of knowledge on hormones, she’s also hilarious and breaks down complex and confusing topics with ease on her Instagram. I actually first came across her watching one of her reels on period pain and it was so on point and so easy to understand that I immediately became a fan!

In today’s episode, Dr. Saru Bala and I are talking all about PMS - why people have it, why it’s been normalised in society and some really easy steps to begin minimising your symptoms and becoming PMS free.

In this episode we discuss:

  • The definition of PMS
  • Some of the typical signs and symptoms of PMS
  • The causes of PMS - and it’s not just about hormones!
  • Whether some people are more prone to PMS than others
  • Why PMS has been normalised for menstruating people and whether it’s just part of having periods
  • Lifestyle changes that can help reduce the prevalence of PMS
  • Nutrition changes that can help to reduce PMS

I know so many of you don’t just suffer with endo, but PMS as well - so I can’t wait for you to hear this episode!

How to Recover From Fatigue Whether You Have Endo or Dysautonomia, Or Both! With Dr Sarah Dueffert22 Nov 202200:59:25

Dr. Sarah Dueffert is a doctor of physical therapy, a board-certified neurologic clinical specialist and health coach specialising in fatigue and POTS recovery.

Not only does Sarah help others get their life back, but she got her life back too - after years of mysterious symptoms like brain fog and crippling fatigue.

Now she supports people to improve their energy and enjoy life again, after serious chronic illness like endometriosis and POTS have left them exhausted and barely able to get through the day.

In today’s episode, Sarah and I are talking about how to recover from chronic fatigue with endo and dysautonomia/POTS.

In this episode we discuss:

  • What dysautonomia means and what specifically what POTS is and how it affects the body.
  • How to get diagnosed with POTS or dysautonomia and the challenges women and people with endo face when asking for help with symptoms like a racing heart, chest pain, exhaustion and dizziness.
  • The personality traits associated with POTS and chronic pelvic pain, in both the literature and clinically.
  • Sarah’s 3 key approach to recovering from chronic fatigue and experiencing a joyful life again.

This episode hit me hard! Sarah’s approach is different from the usual fatigue recovery we hear about it, it’s so much more about joy and less about a to-do list. I think it’s an incredibly useful episode if you’re struggling with fatigue, whether you have POTS, dysutonomia or endometriosis.

Elisa Imperatori is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher and menstrual cycle and perimenopause educator. Combining yoga, body literacy and the phases of the menstrual cycle, she helps people turn their menstrual cycle into an ally so that they can go from menstrual pain, mood swings and not understanding their cycle to body harmony, reduced symptoms and a happier, healthier cycle.

In today’s episode, Elisa and I are talking about how to use yoga to experience a better cycle and manage chronic endo pain.

In this episode we discuss:

  • What cycle synced yoga is and how it differs from the ‘typical’ yoga we practice in Western society.
  • The evidence-based benefits behind yoga for endometriosis and chronic pain.
  • How to practice cycle-synced yoga for endometriosis symptom management and hormone health.
  • How to practice yoga safely with endometriosis and how to tailor poses appropriately to prevent flare ups.
  • The specific poses Elisa loves for pain relief.

In this episode we discuss:

  • The difference between natural menopause and surgically or medically induced menopause.
  • Myth-busting the lie that endo doesn’t affect those in menopause and the research on early menopause and endo.
  • How menopause can affect endometriosis symptoms, plus the general symptoms that can occur with menopause.
  • How to improve your experience of menopause and reduce your symptoms.

This isn’t a topic we’ve ever covered before on the show, but it’s certainly worth learning about now so you’re prepared and informed!

How to Manage Endo, Hypermobility, MCAS, and Dysautonomia Without the Overwhelm with Dr Jessica Drummond24 Oct 202200:48:03

Today’s episode is with my tutor and world renowned endometriosis expert Dr Jessica Drummond.

Dr Jessica Drummond is the founder and CEO of the Integrative Women’s Health Institute, where she trains thousands of practitioners and works with patients with endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain conditions. She is also the author of the incredible book Outsmart Endometriosis.

Jessica is hosting a free endo workshop Outsmart Endometriosis Workshop, “6 Strategies to Reclaim Your Life from Endometriosis” on Oct 25th 2pm at 2pm EST. Sign up here. You can attend live or watch the replay, but you must be signed up to receive the recording.

In today’s interview, Jessica and I continue a conversation we’ve been having together for much of the year - and this is the connection between endometriosis, MCAS, dysautonomia and hypermobility.

Something I love about this conversation is that we talk less about the diagnosis of these conditions, and more about how to think about these new conditions and how to approach healing without overwhelm and without getting caught up in the weeds.

I think this is a great conversation if you’ve been wondering whether you have these conditions but were scared about what this would mean for you, or you have these conditions diagnosed already but you didn’t know where to start.

In this episode we discuss:

  • The prevalence of MCAS, dysautonomia and hypermobility in the endo community.
  • Why these conditions present in people with endo and how they may develop or be triggered later in life.
  • Dr Drummond’s approach to managing these conditions in the context of endo and how to avoid overwhelm.
  • How to work with Jessica and access her free workshop!

I really hope you find this a useful interview in our ongoing focus on endo, MCAS, dysautonomia and hypermobility.

REPLAY: Six Foods to Eat Before Your Period to Reduce Pain with Endometriosis17 Oct 202200:33:41

This week’s episode is a replay as my guest for this week has had to postpone (but they’ll be on very soon)! I thought I’d continue on the theme of improving your period pain with endo, and wanted to share some of the best foods for lowering inflammation and supporting a healthy cycle.

Of course, please avoid the foods that you know you react to and don’t tolerate. Every body is different and so just because a food is shown to be anti-inflammatory, that doesn’t mean it’s right for you.

As most of you will know by now, I lean towards making healthy choices to support us with endo all month long, but that doesn’t mean that focusing on foods to add in just before our period can’t be useful. In fact, if you’re struggling with where to get started with endometriosis management, I would start here and with my last episode.

As always, these are just options - you don’t have to do them all nor do you have to do them exactly as suggested, tweak and tailor to your lifestyle and preferences. If you’re triggered by any of this, seek the support of a therapist and dietician/health coach/nutritionist before making further dietary changes.

So, here are any foods to to eat before your period to reduce pain with endometriosis:

  1. Spinach and other leafy greens such as kale, boy chow, lettuce, rocket, chard and other greens. Add these in for anti-inflammatory nutrients, magnesium iron and fibre. Leafy greens can help to reduce period pain, fatigue, PMS symptoms like bloating and can aid reducing any excess oestrogen.
  2. Olive oil and other Vitamin E containing foods such as almonds, olives, avocados, greens and sunflower seeds. Vitamin E has been shown to reduce inflammation in numerous studies, as well as reduce pain with endometriosis and painful periods.
  3. Broccoli and other cruciferous veg like kale, cauliflower, asparagus, broccoli sprouts, sprouts and cabbage. These help to reduce oestrogen dominance by supporting the body to remove old oestrogen that needs clearing out and can cause symptoms like clots periods, heavy periods and period pain.
  4. Salmon and other sources of omega 3 fats such as mackerel, anchovies, sardines, herring, walnuts and chia seeds. Omega 3 fats help to lower inflammation and have been shown to reduce period pain and in studies on rats, reduce the size of endometriosis lesions. Add no more than two portions of fatty fish a week in addition to walnuts and chia seeds, and be cautious of large fatty fish as these can have a higher mercury content.
  5. Tomatoes and other colourful vegetables such as berries, red cabbage, parsnips, peppers, squashed carrots. Studies have shown that people with endometriosis have higher levels of oxidation (which leads to higher levels of inflammation and therefore pain) and that when participants added in a high anti-oxidant diet in the form of extra fruits and vegetables, their oxidation levels lowered.
  6. Turmeric and other herbs and spices like cinnamon and ginger. Many herbs and spices are anti-inflammatory, yet turmeric, ginger and cinnamon are particular stand-out stars, with curcumin (the active compound in turmeric) showing promise with endometriosis lesion suppression and ruction in mice, and ginger being an effective pain reliever in people with primary dysmenorrhea.
  7. Bonus food! Raw cacao and sugar free dark chocolate. Rich in magnesium, iron and anti-oxidants, raw cacao can help lower inflammation and support energy production, whilst helping us with those sugar cravings! Just be mindful of how much you have as cacao does have a little caffeine.

REPLAY: Six Tips for Reducing Endometriosis Pain in the Week Before Your Period10 Oct 202200:38:00

This week’s episode is a replay as I am busy welcoming my new course students!

I’ve had some amazing client wins in the past week - three clients had a dramatic reduction in pain and an increase in cycle regularity, with two actually going out on Day 1 of their periods to parties and social dinners!

So it inspired me to share with you all ways to improve your period, and one of the go-to techniques I use with clients is pulling together a little pre-period toolkit which helps them to reduce inflammation in the lead up to menstruation.

So I thought I’d reshape this old episode where I share six tips for reducing endo pain in the lead up to your period…

Perhaps we get through with a mix of pain killers or maybe nothing helps at all - whatever is going on for you, today I want to offer you six simple pain relieving strategies that can help alleviate your endometriosis pain when your period arrives. These methods are best begun seven days before your period so the effects build up and compound and I do totally recommend continuing them into your period too, for extra benefits!

As always, these are just options - you don’t have to do them all nor do you have to do them exactly as suggested, tweak and tailor to your lifestyle and preferences. Consult your GP before adding in supplements.

Here are my six tips for reducing your endometriosis pain for when your period starts:

  • Magnesium rich baths, 2 - 3 times the week before your period, with 500g - 600g Epsom salt baths, soaking for at least 10 minutes each times.
  • Two portions of low mercury, fatty fish (sardines, mackerel, anchovies salmon, herring) in addition to 1000mg - 3000mg good quality omega 3 fatty acid supplementation.
  • Turmeric lattes with 1/2 teaspoon turmeric (1g) and 1/4-1/2 teaspoon ginger root powder (350mg-700mg) in addition to ginger tea (made with ginger root powder), raspberry leaf tea and dandelion tea. Always add some fat into your latte to aid absorption of the turmeric - coconut oil, coconut butter, cacao butter or nut butter all would work well.
  • Daily yoga or stretches for endometriosis and pelvic pain.
  • Reduce or eliminate sugar, utilising stevia, inulin root syrup, berries and 100% dark chocolate as alternatives.
  • Eat the rainbow! Get in 5 to 10 servings of fruit and veg a day, focusing more on vegetables (think 80% vs 20%).

I hope this episode helps you prepare for your period! Please do let me know if it changes your experience of your next period - I would love to hear from you! Scroll down to the show notes for links to studies, brand recommendations, recipes, etc.

How Are Interstitial Cystitis, Endometriosis, and SIBO Connected and How Can They Be Treated Together?03 Oct 202201:08:54

You may remember back in late August I was promoting an event I was speaking at; the wonderful IC Retreat, a virtual 3 day event hosted by Joana Bartlett - all about empowering IC patients with tools, knowledge and support.

My presentation was a deep dive into the connection between interstitial cystitis, endometriosis and SIBO and how to manage these conditions together. I was so proud of this presentation and felt so passionately that everyone should have this info, that I asked Joana if I could share it all with you… So, here it is!

In this presentation I discuss:

  • The prevalence of endo in the IC and SIBO community and the current research and statistics.
  • The definitions of endo and SIBO, the theories behind endo development and the two key causes of SIBO.
  • How endometriosis can lead to interstitial cystitis or bladder related conditions - and how endometriosis can lead to SIBO!
  • How SIBO can contribute to the development of endo and interstitial cystitis, and the complexity of the chicken or the egg scenario with endo and SIBO.
  • The co-conditions of endo, IC and SIBO: PoTs, h-EDS and MCAS and the key thread connecting them all (ahem: histamine!) and the symptoms to look out for.
  • How endo and SIBO are diagnosed, and how to treat both conditions in context of interstitial cystitis.

If you’d rather watch the presentation, you can do so here!

The Research-Backed Benefits of Coaching for Endo and Chronic Illness with Jo Lincolne26 Sep 202201:12:34

Jo Lincolne is a certified holistic wellness coach for endometriosis and a womb hara massage practitioner.

As an Endometriosis Wellness Specialist and educator, Jo provides natural endometriosis support and education to help endo sufferers find wellness again and manage their endo-symptoms.

As a woman with endo herself, Jo set out to support herself naturally when she was diagnosed, as there were not many answers that doctors were able to give her or effective medical treatments. This has led her right to where she is today - helping people with endo holistically find relief, hope, vitality and the power to control their health again.

In this episode, Jo and I talk about health coaching for endometriosis and the specific benefits of this type of wellbeing support.

We discuss:

What coaching is - and what it isn’t! Busting myths about coaching.

  • How coaching can support someone with endo or a chronic illness and the research and evidence demonstrating its effectiveness.
  • How having a coach compares to working with an endo specialist or doctor and why building a health team with all three onboard and working collaboratively is so important.
  • What kind of areas a coach can support an endo person with.
  • How coaching can help someone who is struggling with making changes for endo.
  • How to know if coaching is the right choice and could be helpful for you.

REPLAY: How To Eat Well for Endo Without the Overwhelm20 Sep 202200:33:11

We are on the go again this week, preparing for our temporary return to the UK before we head to Sweden for December, so today’s episode is a replay - but one that I think is really relevant because I know so many of you struggle with this.

Today I am resharing a very old episode about my story of beginning to change my diet and lifestyle for endometriosis when I first started on this journey, and how I went full throttle and burnt myself out - and then how I scaled back and made changes more sustainably to avoid overwhelm.

And just as a heads up, this was recorded before I was finished with my training as a Women’s Health Coach, so I’m not as clued up on nutrition and lifestyle changes in this episode as I am now, but I’ve actually linked to some articles and episodes about nutrition for endo and the key pillars of healing I use with clients, in the show notes. So, let’s get to the show…

Original text:

It’s really easy, when you’re unwell, to want to fix everything as quickly as possible. When I started managing my endometriosis symptoms, I went full throttle. I changed my diet, my lifestyle, my make up and skin care - everything and anything that could be tweaked or improved to help with endometriosis, I changed.

But within a short few months, I was broke and exhausted. I was totally overwhelmed by the amount of information that I was stuffing in my brain, the conflicting information out there on the endometriosis diet and all the noise on natural treatment options. Because I didn’t know what was quality information, I tried everything.

My endodiet overwhelm caused me to crash and burn, and I had to work out what was the most important, what were my priorities were in order to create a plan to move forward sustainably.

So in this episode, I’m talking about my experience of being totally overwhelmed to having a clear and steady plan to tackle my endo in a manageable way. I’m sharing tips, reflections and practical suggestions you can begin implementing as soon as you’re ready.

The Three Key Causes of PCOS and How to Get a Diagnosis with Rachel Dutton12 Sep 202200:56:03

Rachel Dutton a.k.a The Period Whisperer is pretty much one of the most knowledgeable women to grace this podcast. She is not only a women’s health coach, but a yoga teacher, reflexologist, aromatherapist and womb massage therapist to name just a few of her credentials. Rachel specialises in women’s health and fertility - including PCOS.

As a PCOS warrior herself, Rachel knows first hand the struggle to get an accurate diagnosis, life with PCOS symptoms but perhaps most importantly, how to manage and even reverse symptoms.

As this month is PCOS Awareness Month, I am giving you guys a little treat. Last month, Rachel came and delivered a private talk to the members of my Live and Thrive membership, and today, to celebrate PCOS Awarenness Month, I’m sharing it with you!

Now, just as a heads up, some of this talk has been cut as I wanted to ensure my member’s privacy, and half the talk was a Q&A session. Additionally, Rachel’s talk was delivered with slides so you may hear her from time to time refer to something on the screen, but all the info you need is provided in this audio.

In this episode, Rachel and I discuss

Here’s what we cover:

  • The definition of PCOS, the associated symptoms and the key causes of the condition.
  • The diagnostic criteria and how to get an accurate diagnosis.
  • The core strategies for managing PCOS and reversing symptoms.
  • How to safely and effectively exercise for PCOS management
  • The best types of essential oils for PCOS and how to use them.
  • The difference between ovarian cyst types and how to spot them.

The New Interstitial Cystitis Subtypes and Where Endometriosis Patients Fit In with Joana Bartlett06 Sep 202201:00:21

Joana Bartlett is an interstitial cystitis warrior, who is thankfully in remission after spending years researching and training in a holistic approach to IC management. She is now a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, specialised in interstitial cystitis and takes a multi-faceted approach to reduce IC symptoms, addressing the whole body, not just the bladder alone.

In this episode, Joana and I discuss…

Here’s what we cover:

  • Her story of interstitial cystitis and why her journey motivated her to help others experiencing the same chronic pain.
  • The typical symptoms of IC, how it can manifest differently for each person and the various tests for diagnosis.
  • The new subtypes of interstitial cystitis - bladder centric, pelvic floor and chronic overlapping pain conditions - and where endometriosis patients fit into this new type of categorising.
  • The common causes of IC that Joana sees in her practice including low oestrogen, gut health problems, nervous system upregulation and pelvic floor conditions.
  • Why Joana’s approach is whole body rather than bladder specific, and how her work varies with each client - but usually starts with the nervous system!
  • How long IC healing typically takes, and where to start if you’re feeling overwhelmed or are new to Ic.
  • Joana’s IC retreat and how it can help those who have lived with IC for decades and those who are newly diagnosed.

Endometriosis, Acne, and Hormonal Imbalances with Cheryl Woodman26 Aug 202201:32:59

Cheryl Woodman is a scientist, award-winning skincare formulator, acne expert and creator of Honesty For Your Skin; a safe space where you can find science-based skin help and where Cheryl also runs her online Acne Clinic.

She’s been featured as an expert by Yahoo style, Byrdie and The Huffington Post and with good reason. Cheryl isn’t about quick fixes or skin fads, she’s all about root cause resolution and understanding the science behind skin.

In this episode, Cheryl and I discuss hormonal and inflammatory acne and how it can be related to chronic conditions like endometriosis and PCOS, and what the hell we can do about it…

Here’s what we cover:

  • The difference between hormonal acne and inflammatory acne and how to know which one is the culprit behind your skin challenges.
  • The key hormonal imbalances behind hormonal acne (testosterone, we’re looking at you) and their common root causes, plus how to resolve them.
  • Some of the key causes behind inflammatory acne including gut health problems, changes to the skin’s microbiome and chronic, full-body inflammation.
  • Why conventional acne treatments often miss the root cause, are a temporary solution and come with unacceptable side effects.
  • Which natural topical treatments actually work and which ones are just myths and fads, and why a full body, root cause approach is key.

REPLAY: A Holistic Healing Plan for Endometriosis12 Aug 202200:41:43

We have just arrived in France after a 10 hour journey in 34 degree heat! Wow, was that intense!

We’re now getting into our work routine but because we’ve been journeying, I have to squeeze my clients into one day, so can’t record a new episode this week. Instead, I’m reshaping an old episode which is literally providing you with my step-by-step protocol for endometriosis management and healing.

I’ve developed this approach after spending seven years working with the endo community and on my own healing journey, and studying with leading specialists such as Dr Jessica Drummond and Dr Allison Siebecker. I hope by sharing some of my core steps, it’ll help you navigate your own healing journey and give you a foundation on which to build your own plan.

It’s the 100th episode! To celebrate I’m sharing the foundation steps I take with my clients to create their personalised holistic healing plan for endometriosis.

In this episode I share some of my main areas of focus when creating an endo healing plan:

  • Nutrition for endometriosis - ant-inflammatory eating, foods for hormones and blood sugar
  • Gut healing - removing trigger foods, getting to the root problem and gut recovery
  • Restoration - optimising sleep, managing stress and recovering from HPA axis dysfunction
  • Detoxification pathways - hydrate, heal gut, remove toxins
  • Structural support - visceral manipulation, pelvic floor physiotherapy, good surgery
  • Cycle syncing - tracking with Fertility Awareness Method, eating for the different phases and syncing your life and movement
  • Supplements - when to use supplements shown to target endometriosis, period pain and inflammation

Remember, everyone is different and your healing has to tailored to you - your life, your body and your needs. Take from this what feels right for you in this moment and don’t worry about the rest!

REPLAY: Anti-inflammatory Living01 Aug 202200:51:12

We are moving (to France!) and so today’s episode is a replay of a very early episode, that some of you may have not yet listened to!

I see chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation a lot in our community - so I really encourage you to listen to this episode because healing is more than nutrition and supplements.

If you were eating a totally anti-inflammatory diet but you were experiencing chronic stress, would that have an impact on your pain levels?

My answer? It’s very, very likely.

There are two key factors that cause further inflammation in our bodies when it comes to our lifestyle.

  1. Stress, tension and danger signals are often experienced in two places in the body: the neck and shoulders, and the pelvic floor. The body is trying to protect the vital organs in the pelvis and abdomen and so in response to stress, our body believes there’s danger and clenches and tightens the pelvic floor. This creates further pain, nerve sensitivity, muscle and organ dysfunction and distortion and ultimately up-regulates inflammation as a result.
  2. The brain is designed to recognise stress and danger signals as a priority because it’s programmed to keep us safe. Because of this, it’s much easier and quicker for the body to recognise danger signals and to send these signals (which can translate to pain signals) to the brain. Stress and danger signals actually cause heightened pain levels because your body is hyper sensitive and is hyper aware of any indications of threat, and so will send pain signals to let you know something is wrong.

In this episode I’m going to dive into how to create more SIMS (safety in my system signals) in your every day life to calm down your nervous system and ultimately calm down that inflammatory response. I provide questions, activities and step by step guidance on how to create an ant—inflammatory lifestyle for endometriosis!

Is Spotting at Ovulation Normal or a Sign of Endo Problems?07 Feb 202500:12:39

In our last episode, we discussed spotting before your period and what’s normal and what could be a sign of low progesterone or even endo. Today I want to discuss spotting around ovulation and again, this is going to be a nice and easy to digest bite sized episode.

So, ovulation occurs roughly midway in your cycle, though that’s just the average. Statistically, the average ovulation day is around Day 14 but it can be a few days before or after, and maybe we can do an episode on what’s a healthy time frame for ovulation and what’s a sign of a problem, but until then, I actually have an episode on what’s a healthy cycle, so I’ll link to that in the show notes.

Endometriosis and Fibroids with Arin Nicole25 Jul 202201:09:04

This week on the podcast I’m interviewing Arin Nicole, who you may know better as Moonli on Instagram. Arin is a functional hormone and endometriosis nutritionist with a particular interest in working with women and uterus owners who deal with hormone and inflammatory issues such as endometriosis, fibroids, period pain, mood swings, PCOS, and more. Her aim is to heal the root cause of people's symptoms through holistic nutrition.

Arin has both endometriosis and fibroids, and is now in a place where her two conditions are really well managed and no longer cause her symptoms. I invited her on to talk specifically about fibroids, given that in the US, July is Fibroids Awareness Month.

In this discussion, we talk about -

  • What are fibroids
  • The association between endometriosis and fibroids
  • The signs and symptoms off fibroids
  • How can someone get diagnosed with fibroids
  • What causes fibroids
  • The conventional treatment options vs. Arin’s holistic approach to managing fibroids.

Please be aware that we do talk about dietary changes in this episode, in particular, lowering alcohol consumption. This is comes up when I ask Arin about her approach to managing fibroids, so feel free to skip this section if it’s particularly triggering for you, though we do discuss this with a balanced and realistic approach.

Does The Pill Actually Work for Endo?18 Jul 202200:50:12

This week on the podcast I’m sharing a conversation I had with herbalist and Forage Botanicals founder Natasha Richardson. Natasha develops natural remedies for period problems, as well as incredible products for bladder problems, fatigue and stress. She has a Facebook group where she teaches menstrual health and wellbeing and kindly invited me on for a chat with her and her audience.

In this discussion, we talk about -

  • SIBO and endometriosis - the signs, symptoms and prevalence
  • How gut health can contribute to endometriosis development
  • The various theories behind endometriosis growth including immune dysfunction and mast cells
  • My views on hormonal treatments for endometriosis including whether we’re really getting fully informed consent and whether effectiveness is accurately portrayed
  • The role of medicine vs. a holistic approach in endometriosis management.

Some of these topics are delicate, and it can be tricky to navigate them when having a chat that isn’t a carefully pre-planned presentation, but I hope I was able to share my views in a delicate and considerate manner.

My Experience of a Tilt Table Test, ECG, and Echocardiogram11 Jul 202200:47:33

Last week on Instagram I asked if anyone wanted to hear about my experience of two ECGs and a tilt table test as part of my ongoing chest pain investigations, and the majority of those who voted said yes!

So, I wanted to record this whilst the experience was fresh in my mind.

If you’re not sure why I had these tests, you can listen to episode ep.204/ the thing that’s been happening with my heart and why it’s important to talk about it in the endo community.

So, as I said in my last episode about this, I am not a cardiologist, and I am not a health coach specialising in heart disease or any heart related conditions. As an endometriosis health coach however, I do see a lot of postural tachycardia syndrome and mast cell activation syndrome, both of which can cause symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, palpitations, etc. and so many of my clients do have to go through these processes and tests to get the right diagnoses.
