Hydrogen: Myths Vs Facts (Hawaii: State Of Clean Energy)30 May 202300:31:35

Moving Beyond Hydrogen Fairytales. The host for this show is Mitch Ewan. The guest is Matt Moran.
On the topic of hydrogen, there is a great deal of misinformation being circulated. Liquid hydrogen systems in particular are sometimes characterized as being a far-off vision that will require many years to deploy. The truth is there are no true technology gaps preventing the widespread application of hydrogen systems. The answer to many questions about hydrogen can be summed up as 'it has already been done'.
Unfortunately, inaccuracies have even made their way into key reports from authoritative government and international sources. These publications frequently contain errors and omissions, especially on the topic of liquid hydrogen. It is critically important to resolve this issue since public policy, regulations, funding priorities, and private sector investments are heavily influenced by these types of publications.

Senate Agrees on Gun Safety Reform (American Issues Take Two)17 Jun 202200:30:24

Rare GOP and Democrat Cooperation.  The host for this show is Tim Apicella.  The guest is Stephanie Dalton.

Under intense pressure from voters, the US Senate has come up with an agreement, in principal, to enact gun safety measures not seen in decades from Congress. American's cries to "do something" in the days after the Uvalde school and Buffalo NY food store shootings have forced the GOP side of the Senate isle to work with Democrats. Although the agreement fails to address critical aspects of gun safety such as assault weapon restrictions, a minimum age of 21 to purchase, and extended background checks, it does make small gains: improvement in "red flag" warning provisions and mental health, as well as domestic violence background checks. The difficult path ahead is to write the agreement in language enough Senators can live with in order to vote it for passage.

We've Got Bills (Talking Tax)17 Jun 202200:22:29

How our Bill Prices Compare.  The hosts for this show are Jay Fidell and Tom Yamachika.

Sometimes we wonder just how lucky we are to live in Hawaii. We all know it’s a pricey place, but sometimes it takes raw statistics to drive that point home.

This week, we are looking at statistics from doxo, a bill payment network that boasts that they have 7 million subscribers throughout the United States covering 97% of U.S. zip codes, and dealing with 120,000 unique billers.

We compare Hawaii bills to the national average.  Ours is the highest in the nation and 45% above the national average.  But by types of bills, the comparison gets interesting.

This book presents a new approach on the history of Ukraine, Poland and Belarus, as lands that were subjected to the atrocities of both Hitler's and Stalin's regimes. 80 years is not that long ago, yet many of the facts are not widely known, as most of the archives became available only after the fall of USSR. We discuss how these events have set the path for what is happening in Ukraine today and we connect the audience with other fiction and non fiction books that are related to this topic.

Trump Goes With Drunk Rudy, Big Lie is Born (American Issues Take One)16 Jun 202200:36:18

Team Normal Tells Trump No Vote Fraud.  The host for this show is Tim Apicella.  The guests are Winston Welch and Cynthia Lee Sinclair.

Once again the January 6 Hearings reveal things not known to the American public. "Team Normal"--comprised of Senior Advisor Jason Miller and Election Campaign Director Bill Stepien--told Trump he lost the election, and it was not due to fraud. Later, AG William Barr said there was no fraud as Trump insisted to claim. Trump wanted to follow what "Team Crazy" advised: the election was stolen from the president. Attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell routinely pushed the false claims of voter fraud. At issue is that those false claims, lies, led to the Jan 6 violent attack on the nation's Capital.  Also, the false narrative was the catalyst to raise $250 Million for Stop the Steal Legal Fund from small GOP donors. Most of those funds were funneled into Trump's Political Action Campaign Account. Findings from the Jan 6 Hearings is the topic of discussion.

And Still we Rise.  The host for this show is Sharon Thomas Yarbrough.  The guests are Ricshara Knight and Daphne Barbee-Wooten.

Juneteenth, the oldest known celebration of the end of slavery in the Unites States, is observed every year on June 19.  Americans will recognize the holiday on a Sunday in 2022.  It is celebrated on June 19 because that is the day the news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached enslaved people in Galveston, TX, 1865.  It took 2 1/2 years for the news to spread to the Lone Star State after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation became official on Jan. 1, 1863.  The 13th Amendment, ratified in 1865, freed enslaved people throughout the country.

Fox Viewers Won't Watch Jan 6 Hearings (American Issues Take Two)10 Jun 202200:32:48

Fox News is Not News, it Avoids it.  The host for this show is Tim Apicella.  The guest is Stephanie Dalton.

One of the most important hearings to be broadcast on prime TV since the Watergate Hearings will be blocked out by Fox News. Why? It may be for the same reason that the impeachment hearings for President Trump were not aired: the fear that Trump followers may hear the truth. The decision for Fox to not air the Jan 6 House Select Committee Hearings is proof that Fox News needs to drop the word News from its moniker. If getting to the details of what was behind the storming of the Capital on Jan 6 isn't news, then what is the news? For millions of Americans, Fox is their only supplier of information. A diet of half-truths and misinformation, or in this case no information, is fed daily to an audience eager to confirm what they have already accepted as their truth. Details of Jan. 6 is an inconvenient truth and certainly will not be allowed on Fox. "Without light, democracy dies."

The objective is not only to mention a person but also say why that individual is worthy of mention.

Thoughts Guiding Emotions (Coronavirus and Our Mental Health)09 Jun 202200:29:16

Escaping Negativity by Thinking.  The host for this show is Ken Burtness.  The guest is Jerry Brennan.

Living in a world beset by seemingly insurmountable problems, it is hard not to fall into negativity. People are frustrated, feel cheated: this is not the world they bargained for, worked hard for. They are angry. Every day the news feeds this anger, like gasoline on a fire. Yet events do not cause anger, people's reactions to events cause anger, thoughts cause anger. Yet thoughts can be positive or negative depending on people's perspective. People can choose that perspective. If people's thoughts turn to anger, sadness, fear, grief, they can also turn to hope, inspiration, new ideas, productivity. People always have choices.

Values-driven Business with Pixie Post (Adventures in Commercialization)09 Jun 202200:31:34

How to Perfect the Art of the Pivot.  The host for this show is Xoe Heeney.  The guests are Mikki Draggoo and Sara Semritc.

The twists and turns that brought Pixie Post to launch come back to a few simple truths. They love supporting small businesses. They thrive when we make customers happy. And they believe corporate and personal gifting can be elevated and magical.

For Mikki, it all started with some pixies. Three in fact, which first appeared in a children’s book she wrote called Catch That Cheese. As she transitioned back to Seattle from her 12-year stint in London, leading a brand and employee engagement team at a large company, she decided to pursue her long-time dream of growing her own entrepreneurial venture.

For Sara, it began when COVID-19 forced her exit from her 10+ year career in procurement at Vulcan. She took her chance to chase her dream of a more creative career tied to her passion of making beautiful gifts and surprises that people love. Her friends leapt at the opportunity and she became busy making, gift boxes, gift boxes, and more gift boxes.

Protecting the Waters of the Pacific Monument (Community Matters)08 Jun 202200:35:09

This Requires our Continuing Attention.  The host for this show is Jay Fidell.  The guest is Rob Richmond.    Indigenous leaders from the Pacific Remote Islands Coalition are writing to President Joe Biden asking him to expand protection of the waters around the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument, specifically around Palmyra and Howland and Baker islands.   The coalition is made up of cultural practitioners, scientists, conservationists, fishers, and community members, working together toward protecting the precious ocean waters of the PRI.  Expansion would continue a bipartisan effort. President George W. Bush established the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument in 2009 around Wake, Baker, Howland, and Jarvis Islands, Johnston and Palmyra Atolls, and Kingman Reef, extending 50 nautical miles around each site for a total 83,000 square miles.  In 2014, President Barack Obama expanded the boundaries around Wake Island, Jarvis Island, and Johnston Atoll to 200 nautical miles, to the edge of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone, protecting 495,189 square miles.  This expansion would further what these leaders have started.     The ThinkTech YouTube Playlist for this show is https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQpkwcNJny6mAjbhHpq-LyAm9pcuN3zJ  Please visit our ThinkTech website at https://thinktechhawaii.com and see our Think Tech Advisories at https://thinktechadvisories.blogspot.com.

Creativity in Lifespan Learning (The Creative Life)07 Jun 202200:30:30

Interfacing University and Community.  The host for this show is Darlene Boyd.  The guest is Morgan Appel.

Continuing and professional education has experienced a sea of change of sorts in the past two decades and even more so in the past two COVID years. Change requires more creative and flexible approaches to instructional development and delivery. Spurred on by the advent of the no collar economy and the incursion of private concerns into the marketplace, postsecondary institutions have learned an important lesson. If you are reacting, you are already far too late.

True educational transformation requires that all involved speak a common language, albeit in different dialects. We must illuminate pathways forward for our diverse constituencies, whether leading, following, sometimes walking side by side, but always there.
