Attacked At The Bus Stop / The Murder of Bobbi-Anne McLeod28 Aug 202401:00:07

Smeaton's Tower, a landmark on the waterfront, is a reminder of the city’s maritime heritage. Built in 1759, it originally served as a lighthouse on the Eddystone Reef before being decommissioned and meticulously rebuilt on Plymouth Hoe overlooking Plymouth Sound and the surrounding coastline. Standing 22 metres high, the red and white tower previously guided ships in the darkness. In late 2021, it was again illuminated, although this time, it was not to guide those at sea home safely, but to raise awareness and say goodbye to someone who was taken from their loved ones in the worst way imaginable…

Wrongly Accused / The Murders of Pamela Hastie & Tracey Waters25 Aug 202400:48:38

Police Sergeant John Ross then saw something at the side of the beaten path — a single black shoe. His pace quickened in the seconds it took to reach it. He also noticed something else: a school bag discarded close by, and educational books scattered beside the bag. Sergeant Ross followed the trail of misplaced items. He found what they had been looking for, but the outcome was not what anyone wanted. He saw the body of a teenage girl…

Your Wife Or Your Daughter? / The Barn Restaurant Murder - Part 214 Jul 202400:41:39

PLEASE LISTEN TO ‘SEASON 9 - EPISODE 19’ FOR PART ONE OF THIS TWO-PART CASE. The jury in George Ince’s first trial had been split 9 to 3, just one vote away from a majority verdict that would have likely seen him sentenced to life in prison. Despite Ince’s acquittal at the second trial, investigators felt that the case was closed and returned the exhibits to Robert Patience, including clothes and the cushions the bullets had been fired through… (Part 2 of 2)

The Blackburn Child Killer / The Murder Of June Anne Devaney31 May 202301:01:33

In modern-day investigations, fingerprints are some of the most valuable clues in identifying a suspect. Automated fingerprint identification systems have reduced the time it takes to compare prints from hundreds of hours to a matter of minutes. Before the revolutionary introduction of automated analysis, investigators had to manually compare prints from a crime scene in order to exclude or implicate suspects in the commission of a crime. In May 1948, an unthinkable murder led to one of the most extensive mass fingerprinting operations in UK history. It solidified fingerprint comparison as one of the most accurate means of identification in criminal investigations…

A Killer Close To Home / The Murder Of Patricia Curran - Part 121 May 202300:48:24

Patricia had taken the bus from Belfast to Whiteabbey, where her family’s sprawling mansion, Glen House, stood at the top of a winding, tree-lined lane. It was a journey Patricia made numerous times before, but she always called ahead for an escort to guide her up the dark driveway. This particular evening, something was different. Patricia never made that call, and she never made it home. Her disappearance set off a frenzied investigation that would ultimately expose the dark underbelly of the elite, a world where power and privilege are used to protect the guilty and condemn the innocent… (Part 1 of 2).

Spree Killer / Anthony Arkwright16 May 202300:42:34

Wath upon Dearne near Rotherham was a once popular mining area. Throughout the 19th and early-20th centuries, the demand for coal rose exponentially. As a result, many miners settled in the small South Yorkshire town. They spent most of their lives carrying out the physically intense and life-threatening occupation that powered homes and businesses across Britain. When retirement came, the workers had built a life and had families in the area, so they chose to stay. Their sense of security was shattered in 1988, however, when four people were found murdered — the victims' bodies had been severely mutilated. Officers from the South Yorkshire constabulary would quickly learn that Wath upon Dearne had become the hunting ground for a serial killer, who fantasised about matching the notoriety of The Yorkshire Ripper and Jack the Ripper…

Waiting For Answers / The Disappearance Of Leah Croucher10 May 202301:01:49

It was a cold and frosty morning in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, on Friday, February 15th, 2019. Children across the country woke up excited because it was the last day of school before half term. For 19-year-old Leah Croucher, it was a day like any other. She got out of bed, got dressed and set off for work. Leah usually made the short journey on foot, but as 9 AM came and went, she never arrived. Her disappearance would spark a nationwide manhunt as her missing person posters were distributed far and wide. The exhaustive investigation would see officers from the Thames Valley police force trawling through thousands of hours of CCTV footage and knocking on the doors of more than 4,000 homes…

The Puzzling Death Of Rina Yasutake07 May 202300:35:47

Helmsley is a small market town within the North York Moors National Park. The VisitHelmsley website describes it as “the perfect base for enjoying the wider area”. Helmsley has numerous attractions, including a nature reserve, an art gallery, abbey ruins, and a market square boasting a range of shops and excellent restaurants. Named Britain's Best Market Town in 2015 by the Great British High Street Awards, the quaint area on the banks of the River Rye is a peaceful and quiet place to live. It is one of Yorkshire's hidden gems, rarely mentioned in the media; that was until a grisly discovery thrust Helmsley under the national spotlight…

No Honour In Killing / The Murder Of Tulay Goren03 May 202301:00:58

In some religions and communities, great weight is placed on the family and its so-called collective honour. Name and reputation can overshadow everything else, and a specific code of honour must be followed. Sometimes, when perceived shame has been brought upon a family, the alleged wrongdoer is forced to pay the ultimate price…

The Body In The Suitcase / Deborah Chong / Jemma Mitchell26 Apr 202301:13:37

Torrential rainfall had caused flash floods along the coastal Cliff Road in Salcombe, South Devon. Once there was a break in the clouds on that remarkably wet summer day, holiday goers seized the opportunity to make the most of their vacation. It was around 5 PM on Sunday, June 27th, 2021, when Charlotte Rollings and her family left the beach, and returned to the cottage where they were staying. The clothes designer was walking along the footpath by Bennett Road with her partner and parents, when Charlotte’s mother noticed something unusual…

The Dark Web & The Online Killers Market / Helen Hewlett23 Apr 202300:28:37

The dark web is part of the internet that is not indexed by search engines. It’s rife with criminal activity, from drug sales all the way to targeted attacks. In August 2022, a man was browsing the dark web when he came across a website claiming to provide hitmen for a fee. Curiosity got the better of him, and as he scanned through the forum, one post piqued his interest; a request seemingly from a female asking for a man to be killed in Norfolk…

Midlands Ripper / Alun Kyte - Part 219 Apr 202300:46:38

PLEASE LISTEN TO ‘SEASON 7 - EPISODE 43’ FOR PART ONE OF THIS TWO-PART CASE. Investigators from numerous police forces across the Midlands had been searching for a connection between the unsolved murders of sex workers in the 1990s. After exhausting all resources, a cold case review was held in 1998 in an effort to identify the killer of Samo Paull and Tracy Turner. DNA obtained during Tracy Turner’s post-mortem had been collected after her death. As part of the re-investigation, the sample was cross-checked against the national DNA database in March 1998. After four years with no leads, the police finally had a match — a man awaiting trial for a violent sexual assault… (Part 2 of 2).

Your Wife Or Your Daughter? / The Barn Restaurant Murder - Part 110 Jul 202400:41:19

It was one of the busiest nights of the year at The Barn restaurant in Braintree. The bonfire night two-for-£5 deal was going down well, attracting over 300 customers. 24-year-old manager David Patience was waiting for the band to wrap up their set. It was past two in the morning, and he was eager to get to bed. The Patience family home was nearby, less than 100 yards from the restaurant. When the intercom system between the buildings rang, David wondered if his father, who had left not long before, had forgotten something. Robert Patience’s voice was panicked. He told his son, “Come over quickly, there has been a bit of an accident”... (Part 1 of 2)

Midlands Ripper / Alun Kyte - Part 112 Apr 202300:46:01

In February 2023, a man was convicted of sexually abusing a child during the 1980s. Aside from the harrowing details presented to the jury at Nottingham Crown Court, some information was kept from them. Jurors were unaware the defendant was already serving a life sentence or that he was suspected of being one of the worst serial killers in British history... (Part 1 of 2).

The Football Killer / A Stabbing In Ampthill09 Apr 202300:30:00

On the evening of Saturday, June 9th, pubs across the country were filled to the brim. It was the second day of the 2012 European football championship. Groups of friends jostled to find seats in front of the television screens in the pubs throughout Bedfordshire, to watch the matches; The Netherlands versus Denmark and Germany versus Portugal. Hours later, in the early morning, things were starting to wind down when a young man appeared outside the White Hart pub in Ampthill. He looked dishevelled, and his tracksuit was saturated in blood…

Freed To Kill Again / Two-Time Murderer Ian Birley29 Mar 202300:44:26

At around 4 PM on July 17th, 2015, John Jr. drove to Marsh Street to ensure his father was ok. He approached the front door and could hear the television blaring from the living room. John Jr. noticed the door was unlocked — a curious detail as his father was very safety-conscious. He slowly stepped inside. It took John Jr. a few seconds to register what he saw in the hallway. There was a trail of blood leading to the living room, and he felt he had no choice but to see where it led…

Drunken Teenage Gang Killing / The Murder Of Garry Newlove15 Mar 202300:57:37

There is a saying that “a man’s home is his castle” — it is supposed to be a sanctuary, a place of safety and security. Unfortunately for many, anti-social behaviour can make them feel uncomfortable and on edge in their own homes. When problems like these arise, it can take weeks for the police to resolve them, and only after the damage has been done. Some try a different approach and directly confront the people responsible, but they could never imagine that it might cost them their life...

Unsolved / Stacey Queripel08 Mar 202300:55:23

Strong gales were sweeping across much of the United Kingdom on the night of Sunday, January 24th, 1993. Temperatures dipped below freezing, as most of the country found relief in the warmth and comfort of their homes. On the quiet estate of Birch Hill in Bracknell, Berkshire, seven-year-old Stacey Queripel was sent to bed early by her mother. She had no plans to go to sleep. Instead, Stacey put on a tracksuit over her pyjamas, packed a small bag and then set off into the blustery darkness...

The Evil In Her Eyes / Marie Buls / Noreen O'Connor01 Mar 202300:45:44

After making the 50-mile journey to the cottage in the Somerset village of Loxton, Peter found Noreen reclining on a sofa in the sitting room. When he asked her what had happened, she began rambling incoherently for almost 45 minutes. Eventually, Noreen told him that she had seen an evil look in Marie’s eyes, and said, “There was one moment when the look became so strong and the evil in the eye so strong that I plucked them out”. Peter was stunned and asked if Marie was dead; Noreen replied, “It is not Marie that is dead. It is the evil that was in her”...

Unsolved / Margaret Lightfoot26 Feb 202300:24:59

As night fell, Roy Lightfoot returned home from work. He closed the door behind him and anticipated hearing the delicate sound of the dog's paws on the floor as Tessa came to greet him. But instead, the home was eerily silent. Roy called out to Margaret but received no response. The property was evidently empty…

The Sneinton Strangler / Mark Martin08 Feb 202300:52:55

Shrill sirens could be heard as firefighters jumped from their trucks to control the flames emanating from the imposing concrete structure. Many of the doors and windows had been boarded up with plywood in a futile attempt to dissuade trespassers. It was an arduous task for the emergency crew to remove the boards before they could gain entry and try to extinguish the growing blaze. After the flames were put out, to their surprise, firefighters discovered the badly-burned body of what appeared to be a young woman. An investigation was launched which would take the police into the grim underworld of the city’s disenfranchised and dispossessed…

Unsolved / Ann Ballantine22 Jan 202300:33:46

It had been a particularly bitter winter, and the ice in the canal was just beginning to thaw. As the men strolled by the waterway, they spotted something floating in the murky canal. It appeared to be bobbing up and down with the flow of the water, but it was not gathering any traction. The men got closer to inspect the unfamiliar object. They could see that it was something wrapped up inside a piece of carpet — there appeared to be fluid leaking from it. The three managed to pull the object over to the bank of the canal, and were horrified to see a human foot protruding from the end of the carpet…

The Life & Crimes Of Donald Merrett / Ronald Chesney18 Jan 202300:39:59

Henrietta Sutherland rushed into the dining room at 31 Buckingham Terrace in Edinburgh. The maid to the Merrett family found 55-year-old Bertha unconscious on the floor, with a pool of blood around her head. Bertha’s 17-year-old son, Donald, was standing next to her when Henrietta entered the room. It was shortly after 9 AM on March 17th, 1926. The maid had been alerted by the sound of a single gunshot. When asked what had happened, Donald explained that he had been arguing with his mother, and she shot herself. Truth Or Dare Confession / Fatal Heysham House Fire11 Jan 202300:45:06

In the early morning hours of May 28th, 2018, as usual, Levens Drive was peaceful. Shortly after 4 AM, however, an early riser in the neighbourhood noticed the distinct aroma of smoke in the air. As she glanced out of her bedroom window, she could see that her neighbour’s bungalow was up in flames, with thick black smoke billowing from the windows. She immediately called the Fire Service and then hurried outside, where she was met by a disturbing sound cutting through the passing smoke. Although the noise was muffled, it sounded like a woman screaming for help…

Human Torch Killer / Victor Castigador04 Jan 202300:42:38

The manager of an amusement arcade on the corner of Gerrard Street and Wardour Street in Soho, London, went to open the premises for business — it was just before 8 AM on Monday, April 3rd, 1989. Accompanied by his assistant, when the manager entered the building, he heard faint cries from the basement, and a strong smell of smoke hung in the air. They moved cautiously through the property, heading down some stairs to a locked storeroom. When they opened the door and went inside, they discovered a desperate situation…

Brides In The Bath / George Joseph Smith28 Dec 202200:41:39

Throughout the first two decades of the 20th century, life in Britain began to change rapidly. In the years preceding the first world war and the great depression, the economy was stable — although the divide between classes was significant, women were getting closer to equality, and the first female police officers began to patrol the streets. It had been many years since Jack the Ripper had terrified women in London, but a new predator was in their midst, someone who could lull his victims into such a false sense of security they had no idea he would strike when they were at their most vulnerable…

The Babysitter & The Catfish Killer21 Dec 202200:44:45

Elstree Studios is based in Borehamwood, an area where hundreds, if not thousands, of movies and TV shows have been filmed — it's not unusual to see the odd celebrity. But, in December, the high street is abuzz with a different excitement — it's Christmas time, and the festivities are in full swing…

Occult Murder At Scotland's Balloch Castle30 Jun 202400:25:44

People slowly became suspicious when they hadn’t seen Sheena’s baby for almost two years. Despite the mother’s insistence that the little girl was being well looked after by someone else, there was something troubling about the child’s disappearance. Sheena had been rambling about a Tibetan spirit guide in the sky that commanded her to do things. Her parents worried that Sheena’s interest in the occult had gone too far…

Ardoyne Claw Hammer Murder / Eamonn Ferguson / Louis Maguire23 Nov 202200:40:31

It was quiet in Ardoyne on Saturday, March 15, 2014. However, during the early morning hours, a woman living on Ardoyne Place was awoken by the sound of shouting. It was coming from somewhere in the neighbourhood, but at first, she couldn't make out the exact location.  The loud voices sounded like several men who were upset — it was difficult to decipher what they were yelling about. As she lay in bed, the Ardoyne resident then heard a rhythmic thumping sound. She got up out of bed and glanced out of the window. Illuminated by the street lights, a man could be seen kicking the front door of a property, adjacent to hers…

Shoe Fetish Killer / Christopher Farrow16 Nov 202200:53:23

Residents of Balne Lane were settling in for the night, preparing dinner and searching for something good to watch on television. It was March 15th, 1994 — a quiet Tuesday evening in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Some employees at Green’s Printers, which overlooked the neighbourhood, were working late. Shortly after 6 PM, one of the silk screen print workers noticed a man approaching a red-brick, end-of-terrace property. The home belonged to 52-year-old Wendy Speakes…

Essex Lorry Deaths09 Nov 202200:52:52

Desperation can lead people to flee the country they call home in search of somewhere safer, a place where they might have better work prospects and a better quality of life. In some cases, they feel they have no choice but to turn to traffickers to get them out. When they arrive at their intended destination, they know they will be financially indebted to the traffickers, perhaps for the rest of their lives. But sometimes, the trafficked do not make it that far...

A Nightmare In Petrol / The Murder Of Eileen MacDougall02 Nov 202200:47:41

It was difficult to see, but as his eyes became accustomed to the darkness, something caught his eye. It was a plastic bag floating in the remnants of the petrol. Billy hollered to Mick, telling him to look at what was inside the bag. Mick waded through the sludge and approached the out-of-place object. It was evident by the shape and the way it moved that there was something inside. As he lifted the plastic bag, the contents fell out. Like something from a nightmare, the large object that was now in the sludge appeared to be a human torso…

The Disappearance Of Shaun Ritchie30 Oct 202200:40:19

Some say the perfect time to visit Scotland is in the Autumn, around the Halloween period. Halloween originates from the Celtic festival of the ‘Feast of Samhain’, celebrated in Scotland, Ireland and on the Isle of Man from October 31st until November 1st. During this festival, people lit bonfires as a way to ward off unwelcome spirits. Many of these traditions were carried on through the centuries and influenced what is known as Halloween today. Each year, thousands of tourists flock to Scotland. But on Halloween night, 2014, a mystery was beginning to unravel, a mystery that still endures eight years later…

Eunuch Maker / Marius Gustavson26 Jun 202401:00:17

It’s unsettling to believe so many people sought out the footage. They typed in their card details and, with each click, got closer to the gruesome video they had paid to see. The image of a naked man strapped to a bed comes into focus; a masked figure steps into view, a red vegetable knife visible in his hand as he leans over the screaming man…

Joss Stone Kidnap Plot26 Oct 202200:44:02

It was shortly before 10 AM when several locals spotted an old, damaged red Fiat Punto. It appeared as though the vehicle had recently been in an accident. Two men were inside the car, one driving and one in the front passenger’s seat. The vehicle was slowly navigating the remote country roads throughout the village and the surrounding area, so unsurprisingly, it caught the attention of several people. The strange behaviour of the men, combined with the damage to their vehicle, raised concerns that they could be burglars, looking for a large countryside home to break into…

Who Murdered Billie-Jo Jenkins?19 Oct 202201:20:06

Lower Park Road is a leafy residential area located in the large seaside town of Hastings in England. Fronted by the picturesque Alexandra Park, the area boasts large Victorian-era style homes, surrounded by shops and parks, a short distance from the beach. In 1997, Hastings no longer saw the volume of tourists it once did — some old empty properties had been turned into flats and hostels; others were a base for patients released under the care in the community scheme. Although some parts of the once popular resort town had been neglected, Lower Park Road remained a desirable area to live. However, residents began to raise concerns about prowlers in the area…

Unsolved / Allan Graham12 Oct 202201:11:15

On a cold and crisp winter's morning, January 25, 1970, the body of a young boy is found in a watery ditch at a farm near Ponteland in Northumberland. Just two years earlier, two little boys had been strangled by another child, and although the culprit had been caught, investigators wondered if something eerily similar had happened to Allan Graham…
