She has a thriving career as a freelance writer, specializing in dog-friendly travel and lifestyle content.

I am brutally raw and honest about grief, anxiety, depression, and mental health in this episode because I think there are so many other writers going through the same thing. I'm sure you feel alone, and I don't want you to.

After that, I dive deep into better interviewing skills. I'm often told that interviewing is a strong skill of mine, and, to be honest, it wasn't always that way. So I talk about how I got there, what I do to make the interview enjoyable while still getting the information I need, and more.

Today my guest is actor/producer, SEAN KANAN and his wife MICHELE KANAN. Sean you know either from Netflix’s COBRA KAI (one of my favorite shows), CBS’s The Bold & The Beautiful, the original Karate Kid, his Emmy-winning role on Studio City, or any of his other film/TV credits). 

Michele Kanan is an Emmy-winning producer, writer, and director. She has produced several films, including Darkness of Man starring Jean-Claude Van Dam, 'Til Death Do Us Part, and the sci-fi film Colonials, starring Greg Kriek. In 2021, Michele won an Emmy for OUTSTANDING DIGITAL DRAMA for STUDiO CiTY (streaming on Amazon Prime, Tubi, and Roku), which has received over twenty Emmy nominations.

Together and the reason they are talking to me is because they co-authored the book WAY OF THE COBRA COUPLES which is not their first book. We dive into that book and the others, Sean’s interest in writing, how they worked as a team to write a book, and more, and yes, they do provide some relationship advice for the new year.

Last week, I talked to Barbara Clarke about writing memoirs, and this week, I continue that conversation with another Erik Sherman who is on his 7th book working with professional athletes about their life stories. I had the pleasure to talk to Erik about his process, how he started working with these athletes and what else he does in his career.

A little about Erik Sherman -- He has been writing professionally since he was 14 years old. He’s the author of Out At Home, with former Dodgers and A’s outfielder Glenn Burke, who invented the ‘high five’ and died tragically of AIDS, is currently being made into a movie by actress/producer Jamie Lee Curtis through Amazon Studios.  Sherman is also the co-author of four other highly acclaimed baseball autobiographies with Steve Blass, Mookie Wilson, Davey Johnson, the 69 Mets, and his most recent book is Two Sides of Glory: The 1986 Boston Red Sox In Their Own Words which has an April 1, 2021 release date.  Erik is an annual lecturer at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

I was right. Today, my guest is Joni (pronounced Johnny) Sweet. Joni has been a full-time freelance journalist and writer since 2018 (after spending years working full-time in editorial and content strategy and moonlighting on her freelance business). Her work has been published by National Geographic, Forbes, TIME, Real Simple, Lonely Planet, Health magazine, SELF, Yahoo, and dozens of other publications. 

Her book “48 HOURS: New York,” has been published in multiple languages. Lonely Planet also commissioned Joni to contribute to its hardbound book, “Wellness Escapes.”

Episode #30: Welcome to The Write Start podcast. I'm your host, Lisa Iannucci. My guest today is Michele C. Hollow, a freelance writer who writes about health, mental health, autism, aging, animals, and climate. Her byline has appeared in The New York Times, Next Avenue, The Guardian, Parents, AARP, and The Costco Connection.

She’s an award-winning writer and editor. You can find some of her clips on her website at michelechollow.com and on Next Avenue’s website at nextavenue.org. 

She mostly covers news and features and has done some nonprofit writing for IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare), Family Promise (a nonprofit that helps homeless families), and the Simons Foundation (an autism research nonprofit).

She has written The Everything Guide to Working with Animals (Adams Media) came out in March 2009. Writing the book fueled her desire to keep on writing about animals; it was a total joy. 

Her 2008 middle-grade biography on the Grateful Dead was updated and reissued in 2019.

Michele's first historical novel for middle-grade readers just debuted. It’s called Jurassic Girl and is about Mary Anning.
