See you October 4- we are starting this series with a longer Explore episode to get you situated before we dive in the next day with the first daily reflection. Our goal is to grow communities where the character and love of Christ are formed in us for the sake of others. A Slow Journey Through Ephesians is a nine-week contemplative journey through the book of Ephesians. We invite you into Scripture, reflection, and intentional practices to help you abide in the presence of Jesus, learn by studying the Scriptures, and go with intention to love the world. Each weekday is a 10-12 minute devotional, and each Sunday we release a longer Explore episode to study more deeply the week’s text and its implications for daily living. DONATE TO THE WILD WAY. We are a donor-supported community. If you are enjoying our resources, please consider making a donation to support the Wild Way and the creation of further resources.
| LS 36: Series recap, listener emails, and what's coming up | 19 avr. 2026 | 00:58:01 | |
In this final episode of Liminal Spaces, we step out from behind the microphone to introduce ourselves and reflect on the Liminal Spaces journey. Meet Nick & Jamie Jamie spent 15 years as a Biblical Studies teacher and teacher librarian, is finishing her MA in Theology and Culture, and is completing her first novel. Nick served as a church pastor for nearly 30 years and holds a master's degree in spiritual formation. Together we are a blended family with six young adult children, living in a small, remote, rain-soaked town on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Series Recap We journeyed through seven weeks exploring liminal spaces, those threshold places between the old and the new, using Israel's wilderness journey as our guide.

There was a garden in the place where Jesus was crucified, and in the garden was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid... Following Jewish burial customs, Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Jesus down from the cross, wrapped him in the cloth with spices, and laid him in the tomb that had been carved out of rock. The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed him. Joesph rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb, and went away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting in front of the tomb.” ~ combined Gospel accounts of Jesus burial "He was put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison." ~ 1 Peter 3:18-19 "What does 'he ascended' mean except that he also descended into the lower regions of the earth? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe." ~ Ephesians 4:9-10

The Liminal Spaces playlist is available on Spotify. 16 Then Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified. The soldiers took Jesus prisoner. 17 Carrying his cross by himself, he went out to a place called Skull Place (in Aramaic, Golgotha). 18 That’s where they crucified him—and two others with him, one on each side and Jesus in the middle. .. 25 Jesus’ mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood near the cross. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that time on, this disciple took her into his home... 28 After this, knowing that everything was already completed, in order to fulfill the scripture, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar full of sour wine was nearby, so the soldiers soaked a sponge in it, placed it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. 30 When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed.” Bowing his head, he gave up his life. ~ excerpts from John 19 The Liminal Spaces Series is a contemplative journey through the Scriptures on the theme of wilderness, growth, and change. I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! 6 I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. The Liminal Spaces playlist is available on Spotify. 3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. 4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. 7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding... 11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan... And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. 14 The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him. ~ Ephesians 1:3-8, 11, 13b-14 The Liminal Spaces Series is a contemplative journey through the Scriptures on the theme of wilderness, growth, and change. For God said, “Lest the people change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt.” 18 But God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea… 21 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. 22 The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people. ~ Exodus 13:17-28, 21-22 The Liminal Spaces Series is a contemplative journey through the Scriptures on the theme of wilderness, growth, and change. The Liminal Spaces Companion Journal for daily personal reflection questions and a weekly small group discussion guide. The Liminal Spaces playlist is available on Spotify. 17 The whole Israelite community broke camp and set out from the Sin desert to continue their journey, as the Lord commanded. They set up their camp at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 The people argued with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why are you arguing with me? Why are you testing the Lord?” 3 But the people were very thirsty for water there, and they complained to Moses, “Why did you bring us out of Egypt to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?” 4 So Moses cried out to the Lord, “What should I do with this people? They are getting ready to stone me.” 5 The Lord said to Moses, “Go on ahead of the people, and take some of Israel’s elders with you. Take in your hand the shepherd’s rod that you used to strike the Nile River, and go. 6 I’ll be standing there in front of you on the rock at Horeb. Hit the rock. Water will come out of it, and the people will be able to drink.” Moses did so while Israel’s elders watched. 7 He called the place Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites argued with and tested the Lord, asking, “Is the Lord really with us or not?” ~ Exodus 17:1-7 The Liminal Spaces Series is a contemplative journey through the Scriptures on the theme of wilderness, growth, and change. Moses said to them, “This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat. 16 This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Collect as much of it as each of you can eat, one omer per person. You may collect for the number of people in your household.’” 17 The Israelites did as Moses said, some collecting more, some less. 18 But when they measured it out by the omer, the ones who had collected more had nothing left over, and the ones who had collected less had no shortage. The Lord’s word came to him and said, “Why are you here, Elijah?” 10 Elijah replied, “I’ve been very passionate for the Lord God of heavenly forces because the Israelites have abandoned your covenant. They have torn down your altars, and they have murdered your prophets with the sword. I’m the only one left, and now they want to take my life too!” 11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand at the mountain before the Lord. The Lord is passing by.” A very strong wind tore through the mountains and broke apart the stones before the Lord. But the Lord wasn’t in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake. But the Lord wasn’t in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake, there was a fire. But the Lord wasn’t in the fire. After the fire, there was a sound. Thin. He got up and ran for his life. He arrived at Beer-sheba in Judah and left his assistant there. 4 He himself went farther on into the desert a day’s journey. He finally sat down under a solitary broom bush. He longed for his own death: “It’s more than enough, Lord! Take my life because I’m no better than my ancestors.” 5 He lay down and slept under the solitary broom bush. Then suddenly a messenger tapped him and said to him, “Get up! Eat something!” 6 Elijah opened his eyes and saw flatbread baked on glowing coals and a jar of water right by his head. He ate and drank, and then went back to sleep. 7 The Lord’s messenger returned a second time and tapped him. “Get up!” the messenger said. “Eat something, because you have a difficult road ahead of you.” 8 Elijah got up, ate and drank ~ 1 Kings 19:1-8a The Liminal Spaces Series is a contemplative journey through the Scriptures on the theme of wilderness, growth, and change. He has made me dwell in darkness like those who have been dead for ages. He has walled me in so I cannot get out; he has weighed me down with chains Even when I cry out and plead for help, he blocks out my prayer... He said to him, 6 “Since you are God’s Son, throw yourself down; for it is written, I will command my angels concerning you, and they will take you up in their hands so that you won’t hit your foot on a stone.” 7 Jesus replied, “Again it’s written, Don’t test the Lord your God.” 8 Then the devil brought him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory . 9 He said, “I’ll give you all these if you bow down and worship me.” 10 Jesus responded, “Go away, Satan, because it’s written,You will worship the Lord your God and serve only him.” 11 The devil left him, and angels came and took care of him. ~ Matthew 4:1-11 The Liminal Spaces Series is a contemplative journey through the Scriptures on the theme of wilderness, growth, and change. 16 As for you, lift up your staff, stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground... 19 Then the angel of God, who was going in front of the Israelite forces, moved and went behind them. The pillar of cloud moved from in front of them and stood behind them. 20 It came between the Egyptian and Israelite forces. There was cloud and darkness, it lit up the night, and neither group came near the other all night long. 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The Lord drove the sea back with a powerful east wind all that night and turned the sea into dry land. So the waters were divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with the waters like a wall to them on their right and their left... 31 When Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and believed in him and in his servant Moses. 5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about the people and said, “What have we done? We have released Israel from serving us.” 6 So he got his chariot ready and took his troops with him; 7 he took six hundred of the best chariots and all the rest of the chariots of Egypt, with officers in each one. 8 The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the Israelites, who were going out defiantly. 9 The Egyptians—all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots, his horsemen, and his army—chased after them and caught up with them as they camped by the sea... 10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and there were the Egyptians coming after them! The Israelites were terrified and cried out to the Lord for help. 11 They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Isn’t this what we told you in Egypt: Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” 13 But Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation that he will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you must be quiet.” 15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? "A new king, who did not know Joseph, came to power in Egypt. He said to his people, “Look, the Israelite people are more numerous and powerful than we are. Come, let’s deal shrewdly with them; otherwise, they will multiply further, and when war breaks out, they will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country”. So the Egyptians assigned taskmasters over the Israelites to oppress them with forced labour…But the more they oppressed them, the more they multiplied and spread so that the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites. They worked the Israelites ruthlessly and made their lives bitter with difficult labor…they ruthlessly imposed all this work on them... ~ Exodus 1:8-11; 2: 23-24 The Liminal Spaces Series is a contemplative journey through the Scriptures on the theme of wilderness, growth, and change. | LS 5: Acknowledging the good of our previous seasons (Prayer of Examen - Genesis 28:10-16) | 24 févr. 2026 | 00:12:27
10 Jacob left Beer-sheba and went toward Haran. 11 He reached a certain place and spent the night there because the sun had set. He took one of the stones from the place, put it there at his head, and lay down in that place. 12 And he dreamed: A stairway was set on the ground with its top reaching the sky, and God’s angels were going up and down on it. 13 The Lord was standing there beside him,[a] saying, “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your offspring the land on which you are lying. 14 Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out toward the west, the east, the north, and the south. All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.15 Look, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. I will bring you back to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” 16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” ~ Genesis 28:10-16 The Liminal Spaces Series is a contemplative journey through the Scriptures on the theme of wilderness, growth, and change. | Introducing A Slow Journey through Lent: Liminal Spaces | 25 janv. 2026 | 00:08:58
Liminal Spaces: Introduction Season 2 of The Wild Way Podcast Welcome back to The Wild Way Podcast! After completing our year-long journey through the Gospel of John, we're excited to introduce our next series: A Slow Journey Through Lent: Liminal Spaces. What Is This Series? A seven-week contemplative journey through the season of Lent, beginning Ash Wednesday (February 18) and ending Easter Sunday. The theme explores liminal spaces, those threshold places between two seasons where transformation often takes place. Why Liminal Spaces? Lent occurs as winter turns to spring. At some point in our lives, we all enter spiritual seasons that feel like winter, where everything looks unfamiliar and signs of life are hard to find. Sometimes we enter these seasons by choice (leaving a job, relationship, city, or church community). Other time's it's through circumstances beyond our control (illness, job loss, kids leaving home, someone leaving us). Either way, we cross a threshold into unfamiliar territory. A liminal space is that place between the old and the new. We've lost the comforts of what was and haven't yet found what will be. It can feel like wilderness, and the temptation is to turn back. But these spaces are temporary. And they're often exactly where God meets us, because liminal spaces are where transformation happens. Liminal Spaces in Scripture
The church built this pattern right into the Christian calendar. Lent is designed to be a liminal space: a season of separation and intentional wilderness that begins with ashes and ends with resurrection. What to Expect
This series does not offer quick fixes or easy answers. Instead, we invite you to stop fighting the wilderness and let this season do its sacred work in you. Resources Personal Journal & Small Group Discussion Guide. Available free on our website starting Sunday, February 15. We strongly encourage walking through this series with a friend, group, or church community. The journal includes templates for both individual reflection and group discussion. WEEK 48.7: Discussion questions below. Show Notes In this penultimate explore episode, Nick and Jamie examine Jesus's intimate restoration of Peter in John 21:15-25, where Jesus asks "Do you love me?" three times, mirroring Peter's three denials. They dismantle the popular teaching about different Greek words for love (agape vs. phileo), explaining that modern scholarship shows they were used interchangeably. The conversation explores what mutual love with Jesus actually means, why Jesus commissions Peter to "feed my sheep" as the action of that love, and the concept of "leadership with a limp." They wrestle with Jesus's cryptic prediction of Peter's martyrdom, Peter's awkward deflection to ask about John's fate, and Jesus's blunt response: "Mind your own business and follow me." The episode concludes with reflections on the gospel's final verses affirming the beloved disciple's testimony while acknowledging there's infinitely more to Jesus than any book could contain. WEEK 48.3: 18 I assure you that when you were younger you tied your own belt and walked around wherever you wanted. When you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and another will tie your belt and lead you where you don’t want to go.” 19 He said this to show the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. After saying this, Jesus said to Peter, “Follow me.” 20 Peter turned around and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them. This was the one who had leaned against Jesus at the meal and asked him, “Lord, who is going to betray you?” 21 When Peter saw this disciple, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?” 22 Jesus replied, “If I want him to remain until I come, what difference does that make to you? You must follow me.” 23 Therefore, the word spread among the brothers and sisters that this disciple wouldn’t die. However, Jesus didn’t say he wouldn’t die, but only, “If I want him to remain until I come, what difference does that make to you?” SJTJ s a year-long contemplative journey through the Gospel of John.
