Suzy Holman on Finding Your Zone of Genius & the Freedom You Unlock When You Allow Yourself to be...YOU!

Episode 44

mardi 16 novembre 2021Duration 01:02:25

I’m going to guess that if you are a woman who uses instagram and you’re even the slightest bit entrepreneurial minded or interested in brand building, you most likely follow or at least have heard of Suzy Holman!

Suzy is one of my personal favorite people to follow on Instagram because of her business and marketing strategy that she shares about for free but also because her personality is truly contagious and inspirational. I’m so excited and honored to be interviewing her today and having her share her heart, wisdom, strategy and that fun personality with you!

Suzy is a multi passionate entrepreneur. She’s built multiple 6 and now 7 figure businesses, teaches and coaches other women how to grow their businesses, and most recently Suzy has been shaking up the women's wellness space with the revolutionary product, Jovi, which is a medical device that takes away menstrual cramps and other severe pain (see what I mean about multi passionate entrepreneur?!)

Suzy is here today to help us uncover what’s deep inside: our truest selves and zone of genius!

Suzy has this magical power (or some might say, strength) where she is so in alignment with and confident in who she is and what she does that it makes you want nothing more than to be exactly who you were meant to be and no one else!

Today Suzy will be sharing with us and teaching us:

  • How our younger self can teach us a lot about our purpose and gifts
  • The importance of celebrating our true selves and how to find our “zone of genius”
  • Her motto, “If you can envision it you can create it!”
  • Freeing ourselves from pain and the thoughts that hold us back

What Our Anxiety Is Telling Us: The Gut Brain Connection & Other Functional Medicine Approaches to Healing Anxiety with Holistic Psychiatrist Dr. Ellen Vora

Episode 35

mardi 14 septembre 2021Duration 59:43

If you’ve ever struggled with anxiety or have supported a loved one who struggles, then you know how difficult (understatement), lonely, scary, and even debilitating anxiety can be.

I know it can also often feel as though anxiety is our fate and destiny and is wrapped up in our identity.

Today’s guest, however, is here to encourage just the opposite; that anxiety does not define who we are and that there are holistic yet powerful tools that can ease our anxiety.

Dr. Ellen Vora, is a holistic psychiatrist who received her B.A. from Yale University and attended Columbia University medical school. She’s a board-certified psychiatrist, medical acupuncturist, and yoga teacher!

Ellen takes a functional medicine approach to mental health–considering the whole person and addressing imbalance at the root, and that’s exactly what we’re diving into on this episode of the Whimsy + Wellness podcast.

Whether you struggle with chronic anxiety, situational anxiety, or anywhere in-between, this interview with Dr. Ellen Vora is full of hope, encouragement, and even tools for healing.

In this episode we discuss:

• 00:00 Intro

• 07:35 How our mental health is impacted by so much more than genetics

• 08:56 Stress and anxiety: the difference and overlaps

• 15:14 What is true and false anxiety?

• 18:15 Is anxiety something we’re stuck with? Is it part of our identity?

• 28:44 Asking “why” instead of applying bandages

• 31:38 Listening to our bodies and getting to the root cause of our anxiety

• 40:00 Which came first? Are our physical health problems always causing mental health problems or are mental health problems also leading to psychological health problems?

• 44:00 Conquering the “How do I eat nutrient dense foods?” overwhelm

• 49:05 How saying goodnight to our phones each night can help ease our anxiety

• 50:18 Two anxiety triggers that we don’t want to talk about but should

• 53:42 Changing our path from defensiveness to empowerment

Navigating Change And Transition with Resilience And Self-Compassion with Dr. Maya Shankar

Episode 31

mardi 17 août 2021Duration 43:31

Change happens to us all. Luckily, the human mind is built for navigating change, both the good and the bad - and we are more capable than we might realize at handling the unexpected changes that come our way. When we approach change with humility and openness, we can avoid letting the fear of the unknown prevent us from embracing necessary change and creating a more desirable - and even happier outcome.

In today’s episode, I am talking to Dr. Maya Shankar, cognitive behavioral scientist who served as a senior advisor in the Obama White House where she founded and served as the chair of the White House behavioral science team. Maya has a postdoctoral fellowship in Cognitive Neuroscience at Stanford, a Ph.D. from Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship, and a BA from Yale. She is also the host, creator, and executive producer of the podcast: A Slight Change Of Plans.

During our incredible conversation, Dr. Maya talks all about change and how every single person experiences it, no matter how big or small. Dr. Maya shares her story about how a career-ending injury turned into an opportunity, why humans fear and avoid change, how to honor the inner knowing of making a necessary change, and what you can do to unlock the trepidation surrounding change. Plus, she also shares words of encouragement for us as we walk through our own unique journey of change.

How To Get Started With Crystals And 5 Crystals For Beginners

Episode 30

mardi 10 août 2021Duration 27:30

There is no wrong way to “do crystals.” And your journey with crystals won’t look the same as the next person either --so don’t compare! The most important part of your crystal journey is to listen to your intuition and never stop learning because there is always something new to uncover, whether it’s which one you choose or how to use them and beyond!

As I continue to learn more about crystals, I thought it would be fun to share how to get started with crystals so you can start your journey, too.

In today’s episode, I’m going solo to talk about how to approach crystals as a total beginner (because I was one not that long ago). You’ll learn about what crystals are used for, how to use crystals, the benefits of crystals, plus the five best crystals to start with if you’re looking for guidance.

Episode 29

mardi 3 août 2021Duration 43:24

Are you ready to fall in love with your lymph system? Once you understand what it is and how it works, you’ll see why you should spend more time taking care of your lymphatic system if you want to stay healthy. When you know how to access your lymphatic system, you’re not only stepping into empowerment around your own self-care and taking back control of your health, but you’ll also start feeling better in your body.

In today’s episode, I’m talking to Lisa Gainsley, certified lymphedema therapist and manual lymphatic drainage practitioner who works postoperatively with cancer patients and preventatively with those looking to reduce inflammation and prevent illness. Lisa is also the author of The Book of Lymphs: Self-care Practices To Enhance Immunity, Health, and Beauty.

During our conversation, Lisa breaks down the lymphatic system, how it impacts your immune system (and your overall health), the benefits of healthy lymph nodes, and how you can support your lymphatic health using your own two hands. Lisa is also sharing her best self-care routine to take care of your lymphatic health and walking us through how to give yourself a lymphatic massage!

Open and Honest Conversations About Sex And Intimacy with Casey Zaruba

Episode 28

mardi 27 juillet 2021Duration 01:11:47

[PG-13 Subject Alert!!]

Why are sex and intimacy so uncomfortable to talk about? If we had more open and honest conversations about it, people might become more relaxed, open, and confident in their sexuality. Let this episode be your permission slip to normalize conversations about sex and intimacy so that we can remove the shame and give confidence back to women.

In today’s episode, I’m talking to Casey Zaruba, wife, entrepreneur, and mama of six, who holds space online for open and honest conversations about sex, intimacy, the female body, and all the taboo topics everyone avoids. Casey has created a safe space for women to get vulnerable and share sexual thoughts, experiences, and questions so they can reclaim confidence in themselves, in their marriage, and in the bedroom.

Casey and I are talking about all things sex and intimacy (consider skipping this episode if you listen with young children), including how to rediscover your confidence as a sexual woman, the importance of openly communicating with your partner, and how to have open conversations with your children about intimacy. Casey also shares a raw look at both the rewards and hardships of holding space for these conversations.
