Very honoured to have been able to spend time with the inspiring Danielle Brown-Kelly. Over the past few years, Danielle has been supporting a growing number of families in Swindon whose children cannot safely access school due to unmet SEND needs, trauma, severe anxiety, autistic burnout and mental health crises. Including her own children Many of these children are recorded as ‘electively home educated’ even when education ended because school became unsafe, not because families chose it. When this happens, support disappears. Danielle has now formally proposed a Safe Access to Education Framework, a safeguarding-led, multi-agency approach to ensure children who cannot safely attend school are not left without education, wellbeing support or pathways. Danielle is leading the way for huge change. There are a lot of people onboard but more are needed. Even if this doesn’t affect you directly, please lean into this. Listen and support and let’s create positive changes to support our young people.

I had the absolute pleasure of spending the afternoon with one of my very best friends Michelle Duffey! Therapist , SENCO and Special Needs Teacher with 20 years of experience.
Michelle has paid a pivotal role in getting me to where I am today career wise. We discuss all that Michelle can offer in order to support children, adults and families, why Michelle feels so passionately about her work. We talk about neurodivergence, the curriculum and what is needed, lockdown, academies that take over schools and the impact that has and where Michelle wants to go next in her role. Plus much more, so make yourself a cup of tea and sit down for 30 minutes because you are going to want to hear this ❤️

Today I had the pleasure of talking to the wonderful Patti Harewood! Patti is a person centered counsellor who can work with children and adults. I keep bumping into Patti where our work has crossed over first in performing arts, then in a school provision and then in an alternative provision! I wanted to give Patti the opportunity to talk about her background and what made her go into this line of work and Patti told me her story. It makes for very compelling listening so please sit back and enjoy….. Please note some of the episodes I make, will be for both parent and child And I will state this in the introduction, but this is particular episode is for adults only due to its content. Thank you.

EBSA what I have learnt so far ….
In these episodes the host shares learnings from an EBSA (emotional-based school avoidance) training, exploring why some children avoid school—factors like lockdown, attachment, friendships, overwhelm, trauma and neurodivergence.
The episode highlights why asking “why” can create barriers, and instead focuses on practical coping strategies, building trust, and helping children find language for their feelings.
It also introduces compassion-focused ideas—the threat, drive and soothe systems—and offers guidance for parents and practitioners to support children back into a sense of safety and control.
