Uncommon Path: Passionate Leadership Rooted in Faith - Joseph Gallagher21 Nov 202300:33:51

Hey Uncommon Leaders welcome back –

Today is a special day, as you'll be hearing from a very unique voice – my son, Joseph Gallagher. I've been holding onto this recording, waiting for the perfect time to share it with you all. You see, Joseph is a man marked by passion – passion for rock climbing, passion for his new wife, Amy, whom he just married this past weekend and a deep passion for his relationship with Jesus. One of the things about the wedding that impacted me the most was when Joseph’s friends shared stories about their friendship over the years with Joseph.  The common theme… Passion!

Joseph is currently a Staff Associate for the Young Life Organization in Boulder, CO, where he has a burden to see a movement of students come to know the Lord in Boulder.

This episode comes nearly two years to the day after his first official sermon in Boulder, Colorado, so  It's not your typical leadership talk, but if there's anything I've learned, it's that the Uncommon often hides in the not-so-typical. So, imagine exhibiting the kind of passion Joseph displays in his sermon  in your daily work. What could that make possible? The answer is straightforward: Uncommon marriages, uncommon friendships, and an uncommon impact in business and in life. So, get ready for an experience as we dive into this episode packed with passion, faith, and a perspective only Jo-Jo Gallagher can bring.

Aligning Values and Behaviors: Insights on Cultivating a Strong Organizational Culture with David Campbell07 Nov 202300:40:53

Hey Uncommon Leaders!

Welcome back for Episode 88. In this episode, I had the privilege of speaking with my good friend, and Senior Director of Continuous Improvement for TE Connectivity,  David Campbell. Known for his insightful perspectives, David discourses on a seemingly simple yet profoundly intricate subject - Culture.

David proposes a captivating view of culture, relating it fundamentally to an organization's behaviors and core values. With his belief that these core values are a constant variable in the corporate equation, he prompts us to reflect on the alignment between our personal values and corporative ones. He advocates for continuity between these two aspects, emphasizing their influence on culture.

Interestingly, he derives that our daily habits significantly shape our behaviors and, by extension, the culture we interact with or create. He draws attention to the captivating cycle of influence our habits have on our overall behavior, leading to a resonating conclusion, "If you change your habits, you ultimately can change your culture."

This episode is charged with intriguing insights that will make you rethink your understanding of culture and its construction. As you tune in, prepare to challenge your perception of habits, behaviors, and values, and their consequent influence on the overarching company culture.

Career Pivots and Pursuing Purpose with Jeff Henderson, Author of What To Do Next11 Jul 202300:34:01

In today's news, we're seeing a wave of job cuts spanning various industries, affecting nearly 200,000 U.S. employees so far in 2023 according to Forbes' layoff tracker. Chances are, you know someone who has been impacted by this trend. In such challenging times, one of the best gifts you can give them is encouragement.

Back in November 2022, I had the opportunity to read the book "What To Do Next" by Jeff Henderson. and I was fortunate enough to interview Jeff about his book and gain some of his insights on how to navigate challenging times. Given the relevance of his message to today's economic climate, I've decided to re-share that episode with you. Life is full of storms, and at any given moment, we may find ourselves in the midst of one, on the cusp of encountering one, or emerging from the aftermath of another. That's why I believe that this conversation will not only provide practical advice and encouragement, but also equip you with the tools to navigate the challenges of our current reality.

We delve into the profound role of preparedness when facing career transitions, drawing parallels from the founders of Home Depot, Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank. Unwrapping the emotional aspect of retirement, the responsibility of a decent farewell, and the importance of celebrating the new guard, Jeff's insights aim to fuel your quest for personal growth and professional advancement. He also highlights the significance of side hustles and experimental ventures.

As we steer towards the end of our discussion, we shed light on the journey towards identifying one's purpose. How can experiences and side hustles assist in determining the next step? Jeff takes us through his personal experiences of leaving Gwinnett Church, a place he helped found, and the process of honoring the new leadership. We conclude discussing the power of humility in leadership and the necessity of continuous learning and growth in the face of change. Tune in and arm yourself with wisdom and insights to navigate your present, regardless of its challenges.

The Six Phases of Faith - Insights from Rick Warren16 May 202300:23:38

Welcome back, leaders!  This is the Uncommon Leader Podcast and I am your host, John Gallagher.

I have something a little bit unique for you today. I am  excited to have the opportunity dive into the six phases of faith, as described by Rick Warren in his new book, Created to Dream, - the 6 Phases God uses to Grow Your Faith(Purchase a copy here). In this segment, we'll listen to an excerpt from the book where Pastor Rick shares his insights on these six phases and how they can transform our lives.

Another treat will be the return of my wife, Chris Gallagher, so two superstars in one episode.  If You all recall, Chris joined me back in season 2 where she and I reviewed the Coffee Bean!

Afterward, the two of us will discuss these 6 phases and share our own perspectives on how they've impacted our lives. By the end of this episode, I  hope you have gained a deeper understanding of what it means to have faith and how we can apply these steps to our own lives, especially as leaders in our communities, businesses, and homes!

I am very grateful to the publisher, Zondervan,  for providing the opportunity to share this exclusive sneak peek of Rick Warren's new book.   ( Taken from Created to Dream by Rick Warren. Copyright © 2023 by Zondervan Book by permission of Zondervan, www.zondervan.com.)

Driving Transformation in Healthcare AND Bass Fishing! Episode 62 - Doug Dulin25 Apr 202300:34:44

Welcome back, Uncommon Leaders!

My guest on this episode is Doug Dulin. Doug and I used to work side by side in a previous life and I have experienced his great leadership first-hand.  Currently, Doug is the Vice President of Operational Excellence for the Boldt Company, a national construction leader. In Doug’s role he provides key transformational guidance to leadership teams on innovative ways to embed lean thinking into hospital cultures and workflows.   AND, Doug is an avid bass fisherman – which I must say, has me a bit envious…

In this episode, Doug shares many good stories and drops some great leadership tips on influencing without authority, as well as some suggestions on how he stays on top of his personal development game.
