What Your Blood Work Should Be Revealing About Your Health—Beyond Illness

jeudi 27 mars 2025Duration 24:24

In the realm of getting your blood work done, there are two categories of tests. The ones that are designed to identify illness, and the ones that help you proactively prevent inflammation and maintain wellness.

Unfortunately, the typical panels most people get fall into the former category. They don’t give you in-depth data about your true health status and they miss great opportunities for disease prevention. Your annual checkup doesn’t have to be just another routine; it can be an opportunity to ensure you're truly thriving. If you add 6 essential tests such as fasting insulin and vitamin D levels, you get a fuller picture of your health, and you can make small tweaks that could make all the difference. These markers don’t come in your standard blood panels, you have to ask your doctor for them specifically, but I believe they are worth it.

In this episode, I share how you can use blood work to proactively manage your health. I’ll explain how to ask your doctor for the right tests, and why taking a functional medicine approach is key to unlocking your body’s full potential. I also discuss how inflammation markers like HS-CRP are often overlooked, yet they play a major role in predicting disease.

Things You’ll Learn In This Episode

Normal vs. optimal - When you’re doing blood work for wellness, a normal blood panel just doesn’t cut it. How do we test blood with health optimization in mind?

The most important blood markers for disease prevention - Preventing inflammation is the key to warding off disease. How can we make sure our blood work can spot early signs of inflammation?

Blood work to find illness vs. blood work to keep you healthy - How do we set up a foundation of wellness instead of waiting till we’re sick to get our blood work done?

Introducing The Trusted Pharmacist Podcast: The Truth About What’s Keeping You Sick

jeudi 27 mars 2025Duration 17:10

A quick glance at today's healthcare landscape reveals one undeniable truth. The system isn’t just a little off-track - it’s in a full-blown crisis.

From the way doctors are trained to the ingredients in everything we eat, drink and use, the current system isn’t built for wellness. In fact, in some cases, it only serves to make us sicker.

Our food is irresistible, addictive but lacking any real nutritional value. The so-called healthy supplements that should help us are adding to the problem. Constraints on healthcare practitioners make it impossible for them to provide a holistic personalized approach.

Then of course there’s all the noise and misinformation about health which makes it really confusing to know what to do. How can we navigate all these factors, learn how our bodies truly work and give them what they need to thrive? There are many steps in this process, but getting the right healthcare partner is a start.

Pharmacists like myself can help you give your body everything it needs to function optimally. That means food, supplements, stress management, sleep and so much more.

And that’s why I started this podcast, The Trusted Pharmacist. I want to cut through all the noise and garbage information and help you flip your body’s switch from sick to being able to heal itself.

In this episode, I share in detail what to expect in this podcast and my mission to help you achieve and maintain your highest level of health.

Things You’ll Learn In This Episode

Holistic health vs. symptom management - The way healthcare professionals are trained doesn’t lend to real healing. Why do doctors and pharmacists have such a hard time delivering the best care?

A pharmacist who wants you off your meds - How can we take people from sick and medication-reliant to managing your health through diet, lifestyle science, and supplements?

How your healthy plate was hijacked - Hippocrates said food should be our medicine, how did our current healthcare and food production systems make it harmful instead?

GLP-1 Medications: How They Work and How to Make Them Work for You

jeudi 3 avril 2025Duration 28:06

GLP-1 medications have quickly taken the world by storm—and for good reason. Just last year, over 90 million prescriptions for these medications were filled, and that number is only growing.

Here’s why.

In my years as a pharmacist, I’ve never seen a drug like this. Medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro have revolutionized weight loss treatments, offering dramatic results for many.

But before you jump in, it’s important to understand that these drugs are not a quick fix.

Without a solid plan, you could set yourself up for disappointment. One key thing to know if you're considering a GLP-1: maintaining your lean mass is essential. And if you're just looking to drop a few pounds, this likely isn’t the best option for you.

So, who stands to benefit the most from GLP-1 medications? How can you ensure long-term success while using them?

In this episode, I’ll cover everything you need to know about these powerful drugs—from how they work to the risks and benefits you should be aware of.

Things You’ll Learn In This Episode

-How GLP-1 Medications Work
These drugs are game-changers for people who have struggled with their weight. But what makes them so effective at controlling cravings and appetite?

-Why You Need a Plan
GLP-1s can offer incredible benefits, but they also come with challenges. What are the risks you should consider before starting these medications?

-Before You Get Your Prescription Filled...
GLP-1s aren’t a magic bullet for weight loss. How can you ensure you’ll maintain the results long after you’ve finished the medication?

-GLP-1s and Inflammation
While these drugs are known for their weight loss effects, they also offer lesser-known neuroprotective benefits. What can GLP-1s do beyond the scale?

Not All Omega-3s Are Created Equal: How to Find One That Works

jeudi 12 juin 2025Duration 29:22

Omega-3s don’t get nearly the attention they deserve, but they should.

This essential fat is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory tools you can add to your wellness routine. Your supplement stack could be missing a key component without it.

From brain fog and mood swings to joint pain and cardiovascular health, omega-3s support nearly every major system in the body.

But here’s what most people miss: you’ll only see the benefits if you’re taking the right kind, in the right form, at the right dose.

There are different types of omega-3s, and they’re not interchangeable. Some are well-absorbed and powerful. Others? Practically useless or worse.

Unless you know what to look for on a supplement label (purity, dose, and sourcing), it’s easy to waste money on a product that does nothing… or worse, one that’s oxidized and harmful.

What makes fish oil such a game-changer in your health? What do you need to know before you buy it?

In this episode, I break down everything you need to know to choose the right omega-3 supplement, avoid common mistakes, and finally make this underrated fat work for you.

Things You’ll Learn In This Episode

Why omega-3s matter

What is omega-3 so powerful? What are the only two forms that truly make a difference in your body?

Quality beats quantity

What makes a supplement ultra-pure, and how can taking a low-quality omega-3 do more harm than good?

The truth about fish oil alternatives

There’s a lot of debate about plant-based Omega-3 and krill. Are they worthy alternatives to fish oil?

How to read an omega-3 supplement label

How do you find the real dose of EPA and DHA, and whether it’s enough to move the needle?

P.S. If you’re looking for omega-3 with a quality, purity and freshness you can trust, explore our omega-3 collection here

The Hidden Toxin Crisis and the Protocol That Actually Works w/ Paul Savage

jeudi 5 juin 2025Duration 45:32

Most people are toxic, and they don’t even know it. Their bodies are carrying a hidden load of chemicals, heavy metals, and environmental toxins picked up over years of daily life. In our modern society, no one’s safe from this.

According to Dr. Paul Savage, a functional medicine expert and founder of one of the nation’s leading longevity clinics, this toxic burden is the silent culprit behind many of today’s most common health struggles.

If you’ve tried everything: cleanses, fasting, supplements, sauna sessions, and you’re still battling fatigue, inflammation, brain fog, hormone imbalances, or stubborn weight… toxins could be the reason nothing’s working.

These invaders don’t just make you feel off. They hijack your immune system, disrupt your hormones, accelerate aging, and can set the stage for chronic disease. Worse? You might feel fine and still be full of them.

And once they’re in your system, they’re tough to eliminate even with common “detox” protocols. But Dr. Savage has developed a method that could help flush out up to 99% of these dangerous toxins, for good. Why are we more prone to toxins than we were decades ago? How do toxins drive everything from cancer and Alzheimer's to fatigue and sleep issues?

In this episode, Dr. Paul Savage breaks down what toxins are really doing to your body, why traditional approaches aren’t enough, and the protocol that’s helping people finally feel better.

Things You’ll Learn In This Episode

-What is a toxin, really
We throw around the word, but what exactly are toxins doing in your body, and why are they so hard to get rid of?

-Why your detox isn’t working
Juice cleanses and saunas aren’t enough. Most detox methods remove less than 30% of toxins. So what actually works?

-How an “oil change” for your blood resets your body
What is TPE, and how does it remove up to 99% of toxic buildup? Is it the future of how we treat chronic illness?

-The most dangerous toxins hiding in your body right now
From BPA to pesticides to PFAS (forever chemicals), these are the top offenders, and what they’re secretly doing to your health.

Rethinking Treatment: Why It’s Not One Drug for One Disease Anymore w/ Sebastian Denison

jeudi 15 mai 2025Duration 44:54

If you think pharmacy is still a “one drug for one disease” model, think again. People don’t get sick in a single silo, so why would we treat them that way?

That’s why pharmacists today are unleashing the power of repurposing a drug at a lower dosage to get a benefit.

Sebastian Denison, a compounding pharmacist on the frontlines of this shift, is the perfect person to have this conversation with!

Using medications like low-dose Naltrexone, we’re able to tap into multiple mechanisms at once, reduce inflammation, calm an overactive immune system, and support whole-body healing!

For too long, modern medicine has focused on treating isolated symptoms, prescribing one drug for one receptor, one diagnosis, one problem.

But the body doesn’t work that way. Everything is connected.

This new model of pharmacy looks at the entire person and provides multifaceted solutions.

In this episode, we explore why it’s time to stop treating disease in isolation and how forward-thinking pharmacists are using multi-targeted, low-dose therapies to reach far beyond a single symptom or receptor site.

Things You’ll Learn In This Episode

-Why “one drug, one receptor” is an outdated myth

The days of single-function prescriptions are over. How are today’s compounds designed to work across systems, supporting your body’s natural healing intelligence?

-Modulation not suppression

Inflammation in the body is like a dial, you have to find the right balance. How do we pull away from dysfunctional inflammation and get back to healthy inflammation?

-The problem with extremes (even healthy ones)

In excess, even the healthiest activities can be detrimental to your health and lead to chronic inflammation. How does living in extremes lead to a stressed-out body?
