Sari Schorr - Breathtaking Blues Singer, Songwriter Exclusive Interview15 Sep 202300:33:20

Blues great singer and songwriter, Sari Schorr, talks with The Trout about her musical journey and her collaboration with Robin Trower on his new album, Joyful Sky.
A voice of breathtaking quality and power and a live show that erupts like a volcano have catapulted Sari Schorr into the spotlight as the new undisputed star of Blues Rock.

In 2016, Sari first burst onto the Blues-Rock scene with her critically acclaimed debut album, A Force of Nature, produced by iconic British Blues pioneer Mike Vernon (David Bowie, Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green).

Sari broke new ground with her sophomore album, Never Say Never. Sari insisted that the album be recorded live to capture the raw energy of her music.  She has ventured deeper into her personal life. In the process, Sari has revealed herself with a vulnerability and honesty that she admits was as painful as it was healing. Her songs are highly crafted with vibrant lyrics that highlight just how good Sari is at invoking passion, grit, and empathy.

Sari’s success comes after years trudging the rugged road of life of the hard-working Blues woman. From her humble beginnings, working the music scene in the legendary fierce South Bronx of New York and on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, to a performance at Carnegie Hall, the operatically trained tornado stood her ground as a phenomenal Blues-Rock singer who would not be denied.

Sari’s home is her suitcase and her path has always taken her on the road less traveled. Her life is a story of never giving up, being true to yourself and pursuing your passions against all odds. It’s a story that is incredibly inspirational and a reminder why we should Never Say Never!

Suzi Kory - Canadian Outlaw Singer, Songwriter on a Musical Mission09 Sep 202300:23:48

Suzi Kory's musical mission from writing and performing from Rock to Country tunes and now up for a Texas Sounds International Country Music Award talks about her goals with The Trout. Never one to sit on her laurels, Suzi continues to broaden her musical journey by producing music festivals, writing new songs and even writing a book about her journey. A great performer with a wonderful message.

‘A lusciously arranged ballad reminiscent of Linda Ronstadt’s glorious country roots’ is how FYI Music News recently described Canadian country-rock artist Suzi Kory's vocals. Considering Kory possesses the lyrical vulnerability and glistening vocals of Emmylou Harris, while maintaining the powerful delivery of Ronstadt it comes as no surprise that alongside Dolly Parton she cites these country queens as her biggest musical influences.

Born in Beirut, Kory's parents moved the family to Toronto when she was eight months old. Her mother, a devoted fan of country music would continuously play classic country, and Kory found herself singing along. In addition to the music Kory has been on music conference panels (Niagara Music Week), published articles on ‘How to Make it in the Music Industry’ (FYI Music News), and is a Motivational Speaker.

“I'm a very positive person and always trying to motivate people. So that's what the songs became about — love and living a life of loving people, loving yourself, and finding happiness by being genuine and true to who you are. The important thing to me is to use music in such a way that it positively affects people.”

New Music Mondays features Robert Jon and The Wreck with their new tune "Riding Into the Light" on the Trout Show.

Reigning from Southern California, Robert Jon & The Wreck take the Southern rock sound from the east coast and make it their own. Since their inception in 2011, these native Californians; Robert Jon Burrison (lead vocals, guitar), Andrew Espantman (drums, background vocals), Henry James Schneekluth (lead guitar, background vocals), Warren Murrel (bass) and Jake Abernathie (keyboards) have been electrifying audiences all over the world with their soaring guitar leads, rich vocal harmonies, and memorable tunes.

Little wonder they have made an impact on audiences across the world, where they’ve played a run of sold-out shows and proudly shared bills with talent the likes of Joe Bonamassa, Blackberry Smoke, Peter Frampton, Buddy Guy and Rival Sons. 2020’s ‘Last Light On The Highway’ garnered worldwide acclaim for the band and 2021’s ‘Shine A Light On Me Brother’ continued their upward trajectory, leading to a collaboration with Blues Rock Titan Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records, which has paved the way for even more new and exciting music. Most recently they released ‘One Of A Kind,’ a dynamic, multi-faceted EP, featuring material produced by GRAMMY-Award winners Don Was (Bonnie Raitt, The Stones, John Mayer) and Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Blackberry Smoke, Rival Sons). This year also saw the release of ‘Live At The Ancienne Belgique,’ their first official live concert film spanning the last decade of their exceptional career, which Music News called, “one of the best live albums I have heard in years." From Museum Tech to Custom Hand Made Guitar Luthier in Bath, England - Gary Leddington25 Aug 202300:31:36

If you like how custom guitars are designed and handmade then the story of Gary Leddington should be of interest to you. Gary Leddington of Leddington custom handmade guitars spoke with The Trout about how he became an outstanding luthier in this episode of The Trout Show.

Leddington Guitars is a small one man shop based in the historic city of Bath, UK, and is specialised in custom hand built guitars, cases, boutique picks and repair work.

Originally from Worcestershire, Leddington moved to Antwerp, Belgium in 2010 and quickly found himself co-founding a local Bluegrass group or two as well as studying at the world renowned CMB (Center for Musical Instrument Building) in Puurs. It was from this headlong foray into acoustic music and woodworking, along with his background in Fine-Arts that his keen sense of the visual and the aural became inseparably intertwined.

Many instruments later Leddington has moved back to his native UK and has developed a sonic sensibility that produces balanced and responsive guitars and puts particular emphasis on the way they play and feel. These instruments are built by a player, for players.

Aside from the primary acoustic function, Leddington also maintains a strong visual and yet minimal aesthetic that often opts for simple straight lines, uncomplicated appointments and classically balanced forms. This way the wood, which can often be dazzling enough, is allowed to speak for itself both visually and of course sonically.

Leddington's passion is to create hand built instruments that follow on from the American tradition of luthiery whilst at the same time adding a modern look and feel with custom designs and ideas. Whether you are looking for a wild looking, yet roaring dreadnought or a sweet sounding 00 with custom inlays designed by your artist friend, you've come to the right place.

Matteo Mancuso - New Music Mondays "Sampa Party"07 Aug 202300:05:48

Matteo hails from the far-away island of Sicily, born in 1996 and raised outside Palermo, had his family relocated to the US, he might well be the best kept secret in the lineage of great Italian- American players like Zappa, Vai, Satriani, Di Meola, Petrucci, Gambale etc.

Back in the 70’s, his father Vincenzo Mancuso made a name for himself as gifted session player on the domestic scene; it was definitely him Matteo looked up to as a primary source of inspiration growing up. While still in high school (of music), he picked up classical guitar and transverse flute, it didn’t take long for everyone around to understand that a kid prodigy was blooming.
Before long, just turned 12 years of age, Matteo takes his first steps on stage at a local jazz festival and since then his acquaintance with live performances turns into confidence and develops through various line-ups and interactions with top local musicians, including a duo with his dad spanning the complexities of Django Reinhart’s repertoire as well as contemporary jazz classics.

Every Rock musician dreams of making it to the top of the game. Selling out big arenas, millions of streams fans listening to, every fan wearing your merchandise. That's the dream. Bogie Bowles lived that dream for over 5 years playing drums for Blues Titan, Joe Bonamassa. Bogie performed with Joe for over 600 shows, but Bogie knew he needed more in life than the daily grind of traveling from city to city. So, he gave up the road and the fame to do what wanted to do and that was to become a therapist for those individuals that suffer with addiction. The Trout interviewed Bogie and his story is intriguing and very interesting.

Crowes Pasture - Infused Contemporary Folk21 Jul 202300:36:33

Monique Byrne and Andy Rogovin perform moving and inspirational songs that are sometimes joyful, sometimes wistful, and oftentimes, poignant, and that reflect a mutual passion for life, family and humanity. Their intimately blended vocal harmonies are mixed with an expressive and unique instrumental style that is best described as "a banjo-guitar romance." Crowes Pasture’s style of intimate and soulful folk transports and connects listeners through universal experiences in their “skillfully crafted, emotional songwriting” (Chris Eastburn, award-winning composer).

Crowes Pasture has made waves with two EPs and three full-length albums in just six-years time.  Their CD, "Slow It Down", was released in June 2019 at the legendary Club Passim. Since its release, the title track earned Crowes Pasture a #1 song, and the album debuted at #5 on the Folk Alliance International Charts. Since the release of their first album, "Edge of America," the duo has had eight Top 10 Songs on the Folk Charts, including "Take Back the Red White and Blue" (January 2022), their cover of Mary Gauthier's "Mercy Now" (June 2019), and the timely and topical song, "Quarantine" (January 2021).

Over the past few years, Crowes Pasture has performed at a number of renowned east coast music venues including Club Passim, Shalin Liu Performance Center, Rockwood Music Hall, The Bull Run, and Circle of Friends Coffeehouse and has been a supporting act for The Small Glories and The Kennedys. The duo has been twice honored with nominations as “Roots Act of the Year” by the New England Music Awards (2019 and 2022) and as “Americana Artist of the Year” by the Boston Music Awards (2019). They were named finalists for Best Group/Duo in the 2020 International Acoustic Music Awards, and for Best Group/Duo in the 2021 IAMAs, for their song “A Virtue and a Call”. The duo has toured recently throughout Southern Ontario and Quebec, and is currently recording their third full length album with award-winning producer Eric Lichter of Dirt Floor Studios.

The duo takes its name from the salt marsh and tidal flats known as Crowes Pasture, hidden away on the north side of Cape Cod, where the ocean tides recede twice a day to reveal intricate patterns on the shifting sands. This recurring cycle of creation and discovery evokes their own musical journey.

New Music Mondays With Grianne Duffy - Dirt Woman Blues03 Jul 202300:06:04

Grainne Duffy was born in Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, Ireland and raised in a family of seven. As a schoolgirl she sang in her local choir and also in a family band with her sisters. The band was bred from their love of music, which Duffy accredits to her mother. Not having a television in their home when they were young, her mother instead allowed them to own a family record player, on which they all were encouraged to get a record on their individual birthday’s and Christmas. This broadened their interest in music and they began listening to artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Pretenders and The Rolling Stones. Around that time Grainne discovered Fleetwood Mac and the blues playing of Peter Green, whom she cites as one her main guitar influences. Previous to her solo career Grainne Duffy obtained a degree in music at NUI, Maynooth, Ireland and took part in session work singing with various bands across Italy and France.

Twilight Muse - New York City Pop Duo on the Rise to Musical History21 Jun 202300:40:50

Meg and Andrew met in 2019 at an open jam session. At the time, both had put pursuing music on hold while they juggled family responsibilities and time-consuming careers.  Meg, an entertainment exec then in her mid-30s, was a self-described “car singer,” but came from a musical family. As a kid, she wrote poetry and passionately wrote down the lyrics to the songs she loved. Andrew has been writing and playing music since high school, but after college got sidetracked by an evolving career as an author, sustainable business strategist, and impact investor. As he neared his 50th birthday, he resolved to pursue music again.

Andrew and Meg’s first project, Ultrasound, a funk cover band, began to perform actively around New York City. A highlight was a benefit concert at Brooklyn Bowl, which found them performing Aerosmith and Run-DMC’s “Walk This Way,” with Meg laying into the Steven Tyler part alongside legendary Run-DMC member Darryl McDaniels. That experience sparked Meg and Andrew’s desire to write songs together. This was Meg’s first time writing and recording original music, and she was exploding with ideas, sending Andrew voice memos and lyric fragments. The two worked collaboratively and nurtured a rapport that reminds one of Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks, the Swell Season, or the xx.

This is the dawn of Twilight Muse. Contemplating their journey, Andrew says: “This partnership has been such an unexpected gift. I hope others are inspired by the idea that a creative pursuit and collaboration can come later in life.” Meg adds: “This calling came and I'm 100% in. It’s never too late to unleash the imagination.”

The Ransom Brothers - Texas Southern Rock at its Finest10 May 202300:21:26

There’s no mistaking Austin band the Ransom Brothers’ major musical influence; those slide and twinned guitar riffs, fierce fiddle solos and bluesy, soul-infused melodies pay proud homage to the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band and other ’70s Southern rockers, though the band also pledges allegiance to red dirt, outlaw and outlier country, jam bands.

But it’s definitely their own musical chops and songwriting skills on display in each track of their debut album, Resurgence.

“Our goal has always been to be ourselves and write and play what inspires us,” says lead singer and guitarist Sean McHargue, who formed the band with fellow Texas State University graduate Daniel “Sal” Solis (guitars, mandolin). They were a duo when they came up with the name, inspired by Jimmy Stewart’s character in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, but have since added bassist Phil Eckhardt, drummer Aaron English, fiddler John Thomas and keyboardist James Rodman.

“We all have our own styles and nobody tells anyone what to do; we just throw shit in the wok and see if it comes out crispy. It usually does,” says Solis.

But the blend of past and present on Resurgence is intended to serve as more than the band’s calling card: They also hope to reinvigorate some musical corners that have gone little stale.

Alex Whorms - Master Songwriter, Singer and Composer. Exclusive Interview With The Trout06 Apr 202300:38:14

While some artists work to master their chosen genre and others may even manage to define one, Alex Whorms crafts music that is essentially a genre unto itself. From her beloved piano, the singer, songwriter and screen composer flows freely and flawlessly between styles and sounds, gracefully blending classic singer-songwriter pop, jazz, soul, rock, classical, folk and almost anything else that strikes her fancy — while investing everything with honest tales and authentic emotions drawn from her own life and experiences.
Not bad for someone who didn't — and wouldn't — listen to the radio until a few years ago. A self-described "classical music kid” who became a "musical theatre kid” in high school, Whorms went from practising piano five hours a day to reading charts in pit bands and conducting choirs while still in her teens.

The Energetic Infusion of Gideon King & City Blog09 Mar 202300:35:42

Grianne Duffy Irish Blues Singer Brings Her Talents to America02 Mar 202300:31:23

Giranne visited with The Trout about her upcoming tour of America and releasing her album later this year.
