Donna Adelson Wanted Wendi to Use WHAT Against Dan?!

Sunday, September 20, 2026 • Duration 51:10

The Donna Adelson case contains a remarkable written record of how she inserted herself into Wendi Adelson’s fight with Dan Markel. After the court rejected Wendi’s relocation request, Wendi testified that Donna proposed using the boys’ religion as leverage, dressing them in Hitler Youth uniforms, and offering Markel $1 million to allow the children to move to South Florida.

Those ideas were presented at Donna’s 2025 murder trial alongside testimony about her broader role in the family. Wendi told the jury that Donna “micromanaged my life.” Robert Adelson said his mother was controlling, had strong ideas about how her children should live, and “ran the show.” His testimony also described Charlie as more dependent on Donna than the other siblings.

That dependence did not disappear when Charlie became a successful adult. Jail call records showed 86 calls to Donna’s number during the week after Charlie’s 2023 conviction, totaling 2,118 minutes. Financial investigator Mary Hull testified that Donna managed details such as Charlie’s hotels, flights, and bills.

Katherine Magbanua added another account of the mother-son relationship. She testified that Charlie would step away to call Donna during discussions about the murder arrangement and return afterward. Magbanua also testified that Charlie told her Donna had washed damp cash. Trial evidence showed Magbanua received 44 checks from the family dental practice, and Donna had signing authority on those checks. Donna’s defense argued she acted at Charlie’s direction and disputed the state’s claim that the payments tied her to the murder plot.

Donna was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation in the murder-for-hire killing of Markel and sentenced to life in prison. Her direct appeal remains pending. The First District Court of Appeal accepted her amended initial brief on September 8, 2026, and ordered the state to file its answer within 30 days.

What 86 Jail Calls Exposed About Donna and Charlie Adelson's Bond

Thursday, September 17, 2026 • Duration 19:29

Eighty-six calls. Two thousand one hundred eighteen minutes. More than thirty-five hours in a single week. That's the phone record between Donna Adelson and her son Charlie in the days between his murder conviction and her arrest in November 2023.

On one of those calls, after Charlie dropped off the line, Donna kept talking without realizing the recording was still running. She told Harvey she wanted to go to sleep and not see her son again. She said they could do it together. Leave a note. Same conversation, she was looking up Vietnam and researching extradition treaties for Korea and China.

This episode goes inside the documented bond between Donna and Charlie Adelson — the exchange rate a prosecutor described as "she managed his life and in return he solved her problems," the evidence that she handled his hotels, flights, and bills into his forties, the daily phone contact his girlfriend confirmed, the wiretap where Donna told Charlie an FBI visit was "probably about both of us," and the payoff cash Magbanua said was damp because Donna had washed it in a machine.

Charlie told the jury eighty percent of what he knew about Dan Markel came from his mother. He repeated her stories at dinner because they were more interesting than teeth. His brother Robert testified Charlie "always needed more attention" and was "somewhat dependent on my mom." Charlie never married. Donna remained the organizing woman in his life.

Three comparison cases map the spectrum this bond sits on — one where a mother told a teenager to kill or never come home, one where observers couldn't tell mother and son from a couple, and one where the enmeshment crossed into incest. The Adelson story sits alongside all three. No sexual allegation. But the parent-child boundary was gone the day a son arranged a hit because his mother couldn't sleep.

Every Single Way Donna Adelson Meddled in Her Daughter's Marriage EXPOSED

Thursday, September 17, 2026 • Duration 31:32

Robert Adelson hadn't spoken to his mother in nine years when he walked into a Tallahassee courtroom on August 25, 2025. First time he'd testified in any of the four trials connected to the murder of Dan Markel. He didn't raise his voice. He didn't perform. He described the machine — a mother who demanded compliance and discarded anyone who chose differently. He told the jury she ran the show. That she had fixed ideas about who her children married and what they did for a living. And that he never heard a single negative word about Dan Markel until after Wendi moved out.

Wendi confirmed it from the same witness chair. She told the jury her mother micromanaged her life. The prosecutor asked if she'd once said her mother operates with emotional subterfuge. She didn't deny it. She admitted to police on the day Dan was killed that her parents had more reasons to dislike Danny than anyone else.

This episode tears through the documented pattern of Donna Adelson's control over her daughter's marriage — not the murder that ended it but the campaign that preceded it. The receipts come from Donna's own emails, her own children's testimony, and court filings entered into evidence.

The emails show Donna coaching Wendi's entire divorce strategy, writing legal responses, calling her son-in-law every slur she could spell, and building a toolkit to psychologically destroy him — instructions that included staging fake religious conversions, offering a million dollars, and weaponizing their sons in ways that prosecutors read to the jury in full. She staged Wendi's departure from the marriage like a military extraction, renting an apartment under her maiden name and timing the call to land when Dan walked onstage at a speaking event. Her eldest son testified she sounded gleeful about the timing.

Dan filed the Grandma Motion to restrict Donna's unsupervised contact with his children. That motion was never heard. He was killed before the court date.

Donna & Wendi Adelson: Why Was Donna Writing in Jail?!

Sunday, September 13, 2026 • Duration 45:48

Donna Adelson's 2025 trial in the Dan Markel murder case put a handwritten jailhouse script in front of the jury. Drina Bernhardt testified that Donna wrote questions and answers she wanted Bernhardt to memorize for false testimony about Katherine Magbanua. FDLE handwriting analyst Kate Butler testified that Donna wrote the script after comparing it with known samples.

Bernhardt said Donna promised $10,000 and a grand piano, along with other help, if she cooperated. Donna's defense attacked Bernhardt's credibility and argued her own criminal case gave her a reason to seek leverage with prosecutors. Patricia Byrd, another jailhouse witness, separately testified that Donna admitted involvement and wanted false testimony aimed at Magbanua. One week after Charlie's 2023 conviction, Donna was arrested at Miami International Airport as she and Harvey prepared to travel to Vietnam on one-way tickets.

The state also focused on 44 checks Donna signed to Magbanua after Markel's murder. Prosecutors argued the checks were part of the financial trail linking Donna to the plot. The defense said Charlie instructed Donna to write them because he claimed he was being extorted. Jurors convicted Donna on first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation after roughly three hours.

Wendi Adelson has never been charged in Markel's death, but Jeffrey Lacasse gave the jury a disputed account of a conversation five days before the murder. Lacasse testified that Wendi said Charlie had explored "all options" for the "Danny Markel problem," including hiring a hitman for about $15,000. Wendi denied making that statement.
Lacasse also testified that Wendi asked about his Friday driving route and then told him not to contact her for a week. Wendi was home for a Geek Squad appointment on the morning Markel was shot, repairing the television connected to Charlie's hitman joke. She testified that the television was not code for murder and later acknowledged seeing police tape near Markel's home without calling him or the children's daycare.

What Donna Adelson Signed 44 Checks For

Saturday, September 12, 2026 • Duration 35:53

A judge ruled that Wendi Adelson couldn't move her sons away from their father, FSU law professor Dan Markel. That ruling is where prosecutors say this case actually begins. Donna Adelson, Wendi's mother, allegedly offered Markel a million dollars to make it go away. He said no. Months later, two men drove five hours from Miami in a rented Prius and shot Markel twice in the head in his own garage — the same morning he'd dropped his two sons at preschool and gone to the gym. He was 41 years old. What investigators found next wasn't a confession. It was a paper trail: 44 checks signed by Donna herself, $138,000 routed through a family dental office near Fort Lauderdale to a woman who never worked there a single day, and a toll transponder receipt logging every mile the hitmen drove. That dental office belonged to Donna's son, Charlie Adelson — a periodontist making three million a year from a family worth more than eight million combined. Prosecutors say Charlie orchestrated the murder and funneled the payments through his own practice. At trial, Charlie told the jury a different story: that he was being extorted, that the killers threatened him after the fact, and that his mother's checks were really a forced payoff. The prosecutor's response was one question about why an extortionist would send the victim's own girlfriend to collect the cash. The jury deliberated three hours. Five people have now been convicted, and the family that couldn't accept a custody ruling is the reason why.

The Complete Adelson Conspiracy: From the Hitmen to the Ex-Wife

Friday, September 11, 2026 • Duration 01:21:59

A judge told Wendi Adelson she couldn't move her children to South Florida. Her mother Donna allegedly offered Dan Markel a million dollars to change his mind. He said no. Prosecutors say the family's answer was a contract killing — two hitmen from Miami, a payment trail through the dental office, and a grandmother who signed every check and allegedly washed the cash.Five people are now in prison for the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel. The shooter and the driver. The woman who connected the hitmen to the money. Charlie Adelson, who took the stand and told a jury he was the victim of extortion — a layaway plan through his mother's dental office that the jury rejected in three hours. And Donna Adelson, the matriarch who tried to flee to Vietnam, confessed to a jailhouse informant, wrote a handwritten script to buy false testimony, and told a sentencing judge she'd never had a parking ticket. This is the complete Adelson murder-for-hire story in one episode — from the custody fight that started it to the ex-girlfriend who flipped, the Dolce Vita tape that caught Charlie in his own words, the bodycam on the jet bridge, and the question that won't go away: what did Wendi Adelson know, and when did she know it? Her ex-boyfriend's testimony says she knew five days before Dan was shot. She denies everything. One of them lied under oath.

What Wendi Adelson Said Five Days Before Dan Markel Died

Thursday, September 10, 2026 • Duration 28:32

Jeffrey Lacasse testified under oath that five days before Dan Markel was shot, Wendi Adelson told him her brother Charlie had looked into hiring a hitman for about fifteen thousand dollars. He called the statement "chilling." Wendi denied it under oath at four separate trials. One of them committed perjury, and the answer determines whether the woman who gained the most from Dan Markel's death knew it was coming.Three weeks before the murder, Wendi was calling Dan an "STD" and an "emotional terrorist." The day before the killing, she asked Lacasse about his Friday travel route near Dan's house, then emailed him not to contact her for a week. The morning of July 18, 2014, she was at home waiting for a Geek Squad technician — an appointment prosecutors say her mother Donna scheduled. Prosecutors argued the family used "TV" as their code word for the murder plot. About an hour after the shooting, Wendi encountered police tape near Dan's house. Her children were supposed to be with him. She didn't pick up the phone.Wendi has testified under derivative use immunity at every trial. That immunity holds unless she lied. Five people are in prison. Wendi is not one of them. State Attorney Jack Campbell said charges on remaining figures would come "in the coming weeks." Nothing has happened.

What Donna Adelson Said at Sentencing That Stunned the Courtroom

Wednesday, September 9, 2026 • Duration 17:41

Donna Adelson was on the jet bridge at Miami International Airport with a one-way ticket to Vietnam when officers arrested her — one week after her son Charlie's conviction for the murder of Dan Markel. Vietnam has no extradition treaty with the United States. Bodycam footage captured Donna telling officers she didn't know there was a warrant. She was 73 years old.Prosecutors called her the engine behind the Adelson family's conspiracy — the woman who pushed hardest for the custody relocation, who signed 44 paychecks to the go-between, who allegedly scheduled her daughter's alibi for the morning of the murder, and who called Charlie three times instead of the police when the FBI bumped her with the killers' names. Two jailhouse informants testified that Donna confessed and then tried to buy false testimony — writing a question-and-answer script in her own handwriting for another inmate to perform under oath. A state handwriting expert confirmed the writing was Donna's.The jury took three hours — the same three hours Charlie's jury took. At sentencing, Donna told the court she'd never had a parking ticket. She asked the judge where the evidence was. She suggested the jury was asleep. Judge Everett interrupted her multiple times and cited her "utter lack of remorse." Life without parole.

Charlie Adelson's Extortion Defense Died in Three Hours Flat

Tuesday, September 8, 2026 • Duration 18:23

Some defenses fall apart in the courtroom. This one basically fell apart the second the prosecutor opened her mouth. "Do extortionists send a girlfriend of the victim to get the money?" That's the question Georgia Cappleman asked a jury after Charlie Adelson took the stand and swore, under oath, that he'd been shaken down by hitmen — and had simply been making the payments ever since.

The payment plan itself deserves its own hall of fame. Three thousand dollars a month, funneled through the family dental office, in checks his mother signed, funded by cash she allegedly laundered before it changed hands. This from a periodontist sitting on more than eight million dollars in family accounts. The man had the money to make this go away outright. Instead, jurors were asked to believe he ran his alleged extortion payments like a dental financing plan — steady installments, paper trail included, because nothing says "criminal enterprise" like meticulous bookkeeping.

The jury needed three hours to see through it. Guilty — murder, conspiracy, solicitation, the full set. Charlie mouthed "No" and put his head down on the defense table. Judge Everett handed him life without parole, plus sixty consecutive years, in case anyone worried he might get out early on a technicality. Speaking of technicalities — his own appeal got affirmed in July 2026 after his attorney argued the venue challenge out loud instead of putting it in writing. Even on appeal, the unforced errors didn't stop.

This is part two of four on the Adelson murder-for-hire conspiracy — from Katherine Magbanua flipping after a life sentence to the enhanced Dolce Vita tape that caught Charlie saying the quiet part out loud. A man who thought he was the smartest one in the room, and a jury that needed less than an afternoon to prove him wrong.

What the Adelson Family Did When Dan Markel Said No

Friday, September 4, 2026 • Duration 17:21

Dan Markel won a custody ruling that kept his two sons in Tallahassee. His ex-wife Wendi couldn't move them south. Her mother Donna allegedly offered Markel a million dollars to change his mind — and when he refused, prosecutors say the Adelson family ordered a contract killing. Two hitmen drove from Miami, followed Dan from his gym, and shot him in his own garage on July 18, 2014. He was 41 years old. This is the first installment of a four-part series covering the entire Adelson murder-for-hire conspiracy. What investigators found was a payment trail running through the family's dental practice near Fort Lauderdale — 44 checks signed by the grandmother to a woman who never worked there, $138,000 in documented payments, cash that Donna Adelson allegedly washed before handing it off. The hitmen were traced by a toll transponder on a rental car in a city that doesn't have toll roads. The FBI built a trap in 2016 — an undercover agent approached Donna outside her Miami condo and handed her a murder article with the killers' names on it. She didn't call the police. She called Charlie. Three times. Then Charlie met his girlfriend at a Miami Beach restaurant where the FBI recorded forty-one minutes of conversation. What prosecutors say Charlie said on that tape would eventually put him in prison for life.
