81. Embracing Change: A Traveling Therapist's Journey to Self-Trust and Personal Growth with Intuitive Life Purpose Coach Nicole Holst30 Jul 202300:44:26
In this episode, I had an amazing conversation with my guest, Nicole Holst, who shared her thoughts on personal growth, self-trust, and the unique challenges faced by aspiring traveling therapists or anyone attempting to achieve a new lifestyle. Nicole stressed the importance of trusting oneself and expressed the joy she feels when she is able to assist others in making life-changing decisions. We discussed the many emails I receive from aspiring traveling therapists who feel stuck and yearn for the lifestyle that, I, and other nomadic therapists are living. Nicole acknowledged the obstacles that traveling therapists and entrepreneurs in general face, but she encourages us to heed our inner calling and overcome the obstacles.Ā  Nicole also emphasized the importance of positive thinking and the law of attraction, stating that what one focuses on becomes their reality. She mentioned the concept of quantum entanglement, suggesting that when energies match, they are drawn together, which is why certain people find their way to her content and Traveling Therapists serendipitously find this podcast. Nicole believes that those who desire a nomadic lifestyle are drawn to it for a reason and encourages you to follow your instincts. She acknowledges that the initial stages of such a lifestyle change can be challenging, but she assured my listeners that the eventual expansion of their life experience makes the effort worthwhile. This conversation was a great reminder of the power of positive thinking and the potential we all have to shape our own realities. Key points:
  • Trust in Self and Embracing Change: Nicole emphasized the importance of trusting oneself when making life-changing decisions.Ā

  • Positive Thinking and Law of Attraction: Nicole suggested that what one focuses on becomes their reality and that by focusing on possibilities rather than obstacles, individuals can open up new opportunities for themselves.

Julie talks about the practical aspects of solo travel, such as managing her dog and navigating different transportation options as she travels through Mexico.Ā

Ā

She emphasizes the importance of projecting confidence and avoiding a victim mentality while exploring new places. She discusses safety as a solo female traveler and challenges the notion of constant fear and suspicion in foreign countries. She shares her belief in the universal goodness of people and encourages a positive and open perspective when traveling. She also shares a personal experience of dealing with a police checkpoint in Mexico and how her preparation and knowledge helped her confidently navigate the situation.

Ā

Overall, Julie offers insights into the mindset, practicalities, and safety considerations of solo travel. Her experiences challenge common misconceptions and provide valuable advice for those interested in embarking on their own solo adventures.

Since then, her nomadic lifestyle has taken her across all 50 states and Mexico, and almost every country in Western and Eastern Europe. Julie has visited 31 countries (and counting!) to date, and typically spends 10-11 months of the year outside of the U.S. She loves to share her experiences and perspectives on her blog and social media, showing others that a life with more travel is both fulfilling AND attainable... and she also loves to share her travel experience and destination expertise with clients, bringing their #travelinspo to life and creating immersive and life-changing moments they'll never forget.

79. Maximize Your Savings with Effective Travel Budgeting: Your Guide to Flexible Destinations and Deal-Hunting with Shelly Blancq (Part 2)16 Jul 202300:40:36

This is part 2 of Shelly Blancq’s series on Traveling Hacking and Budget Travel.Ā

Shelly discusses her experiences and strategies around credit card hacking, particularly with a focus on travel rewards. She starts with discussing how she used a Capital One card due to its straightforward points system and low barrier of entry. The Venture X card, which comes with an annual fee of $95, offers up to 60,000 to 75,000 points upon spending $3,000 in three months. These points can be used to offset travel-related purchases at a value of 1 cent per point. The speaker then transitioned to using Amex and Chase credit cards, as they offered better transfer partners, enabling more lucrative rewards. Transferring points to specific loyalty programs could result in significantly better value, she exemplified this with a flight from JFK to Chicago costing 5,000 Chase points instead of $250.

Ā

Key Points:

  • Shelly highlights the Capital One Venture X card as a good starting point for those new to credit card rewards, with a low annual fee and straightforward rewards system.

  • Transitioning to Amex and Chase credit cards can offer better rewards due to their better transfer partners, potentially giving significantly more value for your points.

  • Shelly advocates for smart spending and strategic utilization of business credit cards and special offers to maximize points without incurring additional expenses.

78. Maximize Your Savings with Effective Travel Budgeting: Your Guide to Flexible Destinations and Deal-Hunting with Shelly Blancq (Part 1)09 Jul 202300:21:53

In this episode of The Traveling Therapist podcast, the host welcomes guest Shelly Blanc, a teacher, and co-founder of a travel company who has successfully mastered the art of traveling extensively on a modest income. This is a two-part series!Ā  Shelly underscores her belief that financial constraints should not limit the desire to travel and shares her experiences of traveling internationally three times a year and domestically monthly. This narrative challenges the common notion that substantial travel is beyond reach for individuals like therapists, often believed to lack the financial resources to explore the world.

Ā

The conversation takes a practical turn as Shelly unveils her budgeting advice for those relying on cash rather than travel points or miles. Her primary tip is flexibility with destinations, urging travelers to prioritize deals over specific locations. By utilizing resources like Scott's Cheap Flights, planning travel dates in advance, and being open to unexpected locales, Shelly believes travel enthusiasts can explore the world economically. This approach has led her to rewarding experiences in unplanned destinations such as Paris and Portugal. Alongside this, she suggests a budgeting strategy where 30-40% of the budget is set aside for the plane ticket, which travelers can wait to purchase when suitable deals arise. Shelly also shares additional tips for finding cheap flights, such as using Sky Scanner or Google Flights and inputting only the departure airport to discover the cheapest options.

Key points:Ā

  • Broaden Your Travel Scope: Instead of being fixated on a specific destination, be flexible and consider a "destination-first" mindset. This means allowing travel deals to determine your destination, which can lead to more affordable travel and unexpected, exciting experiences.

  • Utilize Travel Deal Services: Services like Scott's Cheap Flights can provide incredible deals on airfare, sometimes to major cities at peak times. Subscribing to such services and being ready to book when a good deal aligns with your vacation dates can significantly reduce travel costs.

  • Budget Wisely: Determine a comfortable budget for your trip and expect to spend about 30-40% of it on airfare. Wait for deals that fit into this budget before pulling the trigger on booking. This approach can help to ensure you stay within your means while still allowing for exciting travel opportunities.

76. Unlocking the Power of AI in Private Practice: Expert Insights and Controversies - A Traveling Therapist Podcast Takeover!25 Jun 202300:52:10

In this episode of the Traveling Therapist Podcast, I decided to host a podcast takeover and invited my friend Jeanene Wolf to share an episode from her podcast called "Colleague Down the Hall." The topic we discussed was the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in private practices.

Ā

Now, if you've been following my episodes, you probably know that I'm a huge fan of AI. I use it for practically everything in my life. In fact, I recently created a course to teach others how to use AI in their private practices. It has been a game-changer for me. With AI, I can write documentation faster, create progress notes in an instant, and even draft treatment plans in seconds. It's also incredibly helpful for diagnosing clients. The possibilities are endless!

Ā

Jeanene invited me to join the panel because she also shares a love for using AI, particularly Chat GPT. So, we recorded the podcast episode together with a panel of other therapists, and I thought it would be fun to bring it over to the Traveling Therapist Podcast as a takeover episode.

Ā

Now, you might be wondering why this topic is relevant to traveling therapists like us. Well, let me tell you. I've been using Chat GPT for my travel plans, and it has been fantastic. If you haven't tried it yet, you can go to chat.openai.com and set up a free account. I even upgraded to the paid version because I find it so useful. For example, I recently asked Chat GPT to create a three-week itinerary for exploring Yellowstone while I'm staying in Bozeman, Montana. It generated a personalized itinerary based on my preferences as an outdoor enthusiast. You can even program Chat GPT to know what kind of traveler you are, making it even more tailored to your needs.

Ā

I've been utilizing AI for much more than just travel planning. In fact, I just started a free Facebook group called "Run Your Private Practice with AI." I'm passionate about sharing information and helping fellow therapists run their practices more efficiently using AI. If you're interested, feel free to join the group.Ā

Ā

AI truly is a game-changer, and I want to bring you more insights and information about it, especially as traveling therapists. It can help us run our practices faster and more efficiently, giving us more time to enjoy the places we travel to. Plus, if you need help with your travel planning, AI is an excellent tool.

Ā

But enough about me and AI. Let me introduce you to Janine's episode from her podcast, "Colleague Down the Hall." We had a fascinating panel dis

69. From Private Practice to Personal Branding: A Therapist's Journey to Location Independence with Maegan Megginson07 May 202300:43:22

In this episode, Meagan talks about her journey of becoming a traveling therapist and the options available to therapists beyond private practice. In 2016, she and her husband moved from Texas to Oregon to start anew. To maintain her income while traveling, she moved her Texas caseload online, which led to her realizing that she could be location independent for the rest of her career.Ā

Ā

Meagan also discusses the idea of personal branding for therapists, which involves building a profitable brand based on one's personality, values, stories, and subject matter expertise. She notes that personal branding can be a great option for therapists who want to move beyond private practice and shows how one can create a successful personal brand.

Ā

Takeaways:

  • Therapists who want to become traveling therapists can consider moving their caseload online to be location independent.

  • Group practice is not the only option for therapists who want something more beyond private practice.

  • Personal branding is a viable option for therapists who want to create a profitable brand based on their subject matter expertise, personality, values, and stories.

Maegan Megginson is a licensed therapist, business coach, and creator of Next-Level Therapist, the coaching community for established therapists who're ready to take their careers to the next level. She’s also the founder of The Rest & Success Code, the charity fundraising event that inspires therapists to become deeply rested and wildly successful.

Maegan's Story

Ā

Maegan won the ā€œBest at Everything Awardā€ in the 8th grade—an accolade that solidified her persona as an overly-responsible, perfectionist people-pleaser. She carried these traits with her into private practice, creating a business that made her feel stifled, anxious, and trapped.

During an intense episode of burnout, Maegan took a month-long sabbatical that radically transformed her business. She shed her A+ student conditioning and realized that for her, ā€œRest is Revenue!ā€

Ā

Now, Maegan dedicates her life and time to other ambitious therapists who are kicking ass, making bank, and changing the world one brillian

56. One Week Each Year - Curated Experiences for Traveling Professional Women with Ruthie Kalai29 Jan 202300:37:14

Ruthie Kalai, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over twenty years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. She has always loved helping others. Her passion for working with people in their 20s and 30s stems from years of working with children and adolescents in schools. She has helped students find their path into adulthood and sees her current work as a continuation of offering that guidance and support. Previous clients describe her as very kind, empathetic, non-judgmental, and caring. Counseling is in her blood, it's all she has ever done, and feels as passionate about it today as she did when she started.

Over the last five years, she has created a traveling remote therapy practice; born out of her love for travel and desire to continue working with her clients. She has been fortunate enough to spend months at a time in remote locations, enjoying all that these cities and countries have to offer while maintaining a thriving therapy practice. Her new venture, One Week Each Year, is her opportunity to offer fully curated trips for professional women. Trips are designed for professional women who want to give themselves ā€œOne Week Each Yearā€ to travel but don’t want to spend the time planning the trip. Trips are geared toward a more mature audience—women who are past the ā€œpartyingā€ stage and want to enjoy the finer things life has to offer. In addition to guided tours and excursions, professional development mastermind workshops will also take place. The goal is to help women return from these retreats with achievable goals both professionally and personally. Our inaugural trip will be to Venice, Italy in May. Check out the website, www.oneweekeachyear.com or on social media: FB is One Week Each Year, and IG is @oneweekeachyear

50. It's All About The Connections That Help Your Ideas Come To Completion11 Dec 202200:34:53

We moved to Ormond Beach, FL for a month.Ā  We had barely settled in when Hurricane Nicole came along, now we have moved on to Cape Canaveral. We are one block from the beach and we can see the launch pad at Kennedy space center from the beach! It's very cool. Ken's daughter is coming to visit this weekend and we plan to go to the space center on Saturday.

Ā

This month was a month of connecting with friends and family and launching big ideas.Ā

Ā

I flew into Greensboro for a weekend to see my nephews.Ā  In Ormand Beach, I was able to reunite with an old college roommate who lives near where we are staying. Last week I traveled to Scottsdale, AZ and spent 5 daysĀ  with my trusted business besties for some much-needed R&R.Ā  We shared plans, strategies, and goals as we talked late into the night over prosecco and snacks. Even though we were serious about achieving our goals, there were still plenty of laughs along the way.

Ā

Last week I took a huge leap and re-launched my Flagship membership 'Bill like a Boss.'

I finally took the advice of others and combined my membership and my DIY Billing course into one. I just about doubled my membership in two weeks!

Ā

On my trip to Scottsdale, I solidified my vision for 2023.

Ā

šŸ The Traveling Therapist membership! Eeek! So excited about this.

šŸ Plan a Traveling Therapist live event! Viking Cruise?

šŸ Continue to grow Bill Like a Boss and help at least 1000 therapists build their insurance-based practices in 2023.

šŸ The Traveling Therapist will Sponsor Thriving Therapist Institute events and attend live to continue to Thrive in my business and network with other Thriving/traveling Therapists.

šŸ Support my fellow multi-passionate entrepreneurial friends in their businesses to help us all grow and expand beyond our wildest dreams
