TAMP Season 6 Episode 17 Beth and Nick Munduro de Tontos29 Jul 202400:58:44

Send us a message...

"Nick and Beth, a young British couple, embarked on the journey of a lifetime; a motorcycle expedition from Texas to Ushuaia, Argentina.  However, their adventure took a harrowing turn in Belize:

It's almost 1am and Beth and Nick are camped in an established campground in Belize when five men armed with guns and machetes cut their way into the tent claiming to be police. After being pulled outside, the pair were then bound with ropes and forced to surrender all their possessions: Phones, GPS devices, Cameras, Go Pros, Helmet Comms, Tools, $700 in cash and memory cards filled with cherished trip photographs. This process involved an hour of Beth and Nick watching while the thieves broke into / cut open all their luggage, tipping all of their belongings onto the floor in pouring rain. Within the hour Beth and Nick’s losses amounted to almost 7000 GBP / 8800 USD.

Sadly it gets worse. After finding some spent ammunition kept as a souvenir from the USA, the thieves believed Beth and Nick were armed. Repeated explanations about the spent brass were in vain and Nick endured physical assault, being repeatedly kicked in the face with his hands tied behind his back, he was hit in the back of the head with a hunting rifle and suffered a bad concussion. Beth endured a terrifying sexual assault. Nick described to me the terror they felt while thieves put a machete to each of their throats and pointed a gun at their kneecaps, repeatedly counting down to zero in an attempt to make them reveal the location of the non-existent guns. Beth and Nick were eventually left, albeit with nothing of value but their motorcycles (which the thieves were unable to operate) face down in the mud with the hands tied. They remained here for several hours before being freed.

The police were then called, who visited the scene of the crime at 4am for just 30 minutes before leaving without offering the couple any shelter, form of communication, or peace of mind. Despite the trauma and lack of support from local authorities, Nick and Beth displayed remarkable resilience. They decided to leave the campsite immediately for their own safety, packing their soaked belongings into what luggage was still useable, they rode through the night seeking refuge in a gas station 40km away until the morning. It's been a while, sorry for being a bit useless. Life is very busy despite lock-down... This is part one of the story of our cancelled trip to the Spanish Pyrenees, where we went to the north east and west of our own fair island. Fun was had, beer was drunk, bikes were discussed, disaster was averted. Love was shown to the KTM 125 EXC (even by Noel) and Star Wars. Ever wondered what blokes talk about around a campfire? It's probably less interesting than you think. (CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE)

Now, the festival is aimed at travellers, adventurers and all those interested in the Lightweight Adventure scene. This is not a luxury boutique festival by any means. Instead, it peels back those layers of luxury  just a little and gets back to basics. Now we're adventuring!

"Wrenchride started originally building rally and adventure motorcycles but whilst doing so developed great relationships with lots of suppliers and rally kit producers which in turn made us a uk dealer for part sales and official builder for most of them. As with most things growth and change is a natural progression so moving forward we will carry on offering our fantastic fully equipped workshop facilities for all your build and service needs plus going forward to improve on our excellent over the phone service for advise on parts and builds also ordering fulfilment our new online shop will make for a better customer experience all round.

We like to sell products we believe in and work well that is why we try and test every product we sell on our own shop bikes before offering the product to our customers, We also know that as good as a product can be it is not necessarily the best in all situations so using and testing products helps us help you when choosing right 1st time.

Wrenchride believes that buying the most expensive part does not make it the correct part for everyone so when our customers contact us for advise we like to have a chat about your individual needs and work out what we think the best options are for your requirements, we also believe that it is great to pass on business to others in the industry so if we do not sell what you are after we are sure we will know the best place to turn to."

Send us a message...

https://helmetinspection.co.uk/

"A helmet can be a costly purchase, and the thought of replacing it before it’s absolutely necessary often influences our outlook towards risk.

Our decision-making can also be fuelled if we’ve never had to call on our helmet to save us from serious injury.

If there’s little or no visible signs of damage, we’ve now got the perfect storm and it becomes easy to convince ourselves it’ll be okay.

Out of sight, out of mind.

When our founder accidentally dropped a new motorcycle helmet, he wanted to know if it would continue to perform as intended, or if he needed to retire the helmet and purchase a replacement. Is it still safe to use?

The thought of shelling out for a replacement wasn’t appealing.

Friends provided anecdotal evidence and further words of reassurance, all suggesting the helmet would be okay to continue to use:

  • “Your head wasn’t in it at the time, it’ll be okay”
  • “If a helmet can’t withstand a small drop like that, it’s never going to protect you if you came off”
  • “That’s just cosmetic. You definitely don’t need a new helmet”
  • “I saw a helmet guy on a YouTube video, and he said …”

All very convincing … so the helmet continued to be used for another few months.

But our man was far from convinced, and the doubt was creeping in when he was out on his bike.

He took the helmet to his local retailer, and asked the OEM-trained technician to carry out an inspection.

The retailer provided a thorough visual inspection and declared  It should be fine

As thorough as this visual inspection appeared to be, the result wasn’t convincing.

What would happen if a different technician were to carry out another visual inspection on the same helmet?
Would it still be the same result?

He left the retailer’s premises with doubts and still lacked peace of mind. Is my helmet still safe to use?

So, we fixed it for you.

We’ve created a service that’s both affordable and convenient. And with an efficient 4-5 working days turnaround we don’t tie your helmet up at our lab for weeks on end.

What About The Dropped Helmet?

Safety-critical damage was identified during our test – and a new helmet was purchased.

Does That Mean A Dropped Helmet Is Definitely Compromised?
Absolutely not! Our man was just unlucky.

Since we started providing our service in July 2021, we’ve tested thousands of customer helmets and the pass rate is currently 75%."

You don’t have to be highly skilled or have the stamina of an ox, as our races allow every rider to achieve their own personal best in both time, endurance and competition. But if you are competitive then we always have world class riders against which you can compete. Be it part of a team or you on your lonesome, we ensure every rider has the opportunity to experience our first class facilities that will leave you with a feeling of accomplishment that no other course in the UK can offer.

From undulating terrains, dense woodlands, narrow tracks, open gravel rides to water features, we have it all and some surprises too."

Carl & Craig Searles, we're two brothers that grew up motorbike mad.

We've always wanted to compete in the worlds toughest motorsport competition, the Dakar Rally.

Our aim is to be on the start line for 2025, and to be the first pair of brothers from the UK to finish it!

We're using this website to sell merchandise and raise the money to get us there.

Bridget is aiming to set the record for the youngest woman to travel around the world by motorcycle.

"Part of the reason I'm traveling around the world is to show that the motorcycle demographic is changing. I represent the new generation of riders. Young women who enjoy motorcycling are a growing force; they are people who want to be more present, enveloped in the world, not encapsulated in the bubble of a car."
