DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP OVER MISTAKES | With Omar Hamdi | The Top Floor16 May 202500:38:27

A creative engagement, communications and brand reputation agency.

The legacy media is mainly online but hard to access to micro and small businesses. He wants to educate the market (micro & small businesses) that they can access mainstream media as well; to tell their stories.

He feels too many business owners beat themselves up over mistakes, when they should forget about it.

Next 5 years - they want to have validated the model, growing fast, self-financed and fastest growing financial services. He has the ambition to build a business to £100m revenue.

He is proud of the quality of his management team. He has never used a Head Hunter. He does not like finish products. Only one has worked in PR before, out of 55 staff.

Pathos is developing 2 AI tools for his clients.

He tends not to read traditional business books. Currently reading The Thinking Machine by Jenson Huang - about how a video game designer conquered the market for AI hardware.

If he had £100m, he would invest it in Pathos.

He never likes to give business advice to others unless they ask. He says it is just his perspective.

FIND THE METHODS THAT WORK FOR YOUR COMPANY | With Alessandra Madubunyi | The Top Floor27 Nov 202400:36:23

Alessandra Bell Madubunyi - Founder & Global Retail Strategist - We Are CoCo Consultancy

Monday 5th November (3.30-4.30pm UK time)

She runs a global network of fashion brands looking to grow globally. She had a background in Comms in hospitality in some of the best hotels and learnt how these businesses were run. They are not like any of the big consultancy firm as they specialise in the fashion industry.

She is a Mum first and feels this helps as a CEO - nurturers. With 2 young children, her day starts with prayer, then serves the children first then start work. Weekends are sacred for the family.

She admires - Emma Grede - Good American CEO & Co-Founder from the UK

Recently did a certified course on AI from MIT (USA) and sees it as important for managing data.

Book recommendation: The Bible is the most important book she reads daily - wisdom, strength, guidance. She even has prayer points around the house and focuses on one each month.

She believes that collaboration and partnering is key in the fashion industry as some of the big players are doing.

Tips: always have 2/3 products to sell and promote the best; brand identity is key.

If you had £100m to invest? - would build a creche and learning centre for all the women in her business; help mothers put their children through school around the world. Finally, fashion is a rat race, you need to love it!

DON'T BE AFRAID TO MAKE DECISIONS, JUST DON'T DO NOTHING | With Richard Skellett | The Top Floor27 Nov 202400:30:55

He came out of semi-retirement. He is a tech designer and architect.

It is a private family investment fund, working with a wide range of firms.

He has build a digital version of himself that can sit in various organisations!

His mum was like an entrepreneur working 4 jobs and Dad working 70hrs a week.

He got some great advice from his first NED - sell the business as soon as possible.

He spend 40% of his time in conversations with colleagues (50%) and with his digital self (50%)!

When he thinks of success, he thinks of his Mother & family - giving to charity.

Does not like to look too long ahead 18-24months max.

He feels part of a digital revolution - can make more money, with less risk. Can deliver more value, cheaper and more accurately.

Book rec - What they don't teach you at Harvard Business School by Mark McCormack

One of his biggest challenges is to find the right talent.

Final tips - cash is king; paper valuation is worthless - its all about real value; and find great coaches and great mentors.

HAVE VISION, CLARITY AND FOCUS | With Duncan Wales and Asari St. Hill | The Top Floor23 Oct 202400:46:24

Duncan Wales, Tellimer.

We discussed how his company provides comprehensive information on emerging markets, with the use of new technologies and key relationships.

He recommends that business leaders remained focused on core things and not try to do too many things at once.

He is usually up at 6am, starts with exercise and usually has a range of meetings to attend once at work.

He admires 2 types of people - those who have achieved a milestone event (like winning a marathon) or successful over their lives. Some include Jasmin Paris who won the Barclays Marathons; Marie Curie (her work on cancer) and Fredrick Douglas (Civil Rights Campaigner).

He says you much use AI in his work now to be credible.

Some interesting book recommendations that are not business focused - The Plague Cycle by C.Kenny & Short Walk in the Hindu Cush by E.Newby

If he had £100m to invest, he would help the many tech businesses and move much faster with Tellimer

Hi big 3 tips are 1. Have vision, clarity & focus; 2. control your costs; and 3. manage your cash well

GOOD LUCK FAVOURS THOSE WHO KEEP GOING | With Stu Macdonald and Asari St. Hill | The Top Floor23 Oct 202400:42:46

Stu Macdonald, Manilife.

His role has changed loads from the chaos at the beginning.

He has been very driven after being told, during a serious illness, at 15yrs old he would never write again. He took time out to travel and ended up in Argentina where he discovered the power of peanuts - healthy and tasty. With no real market in Argentina, he imported the peanuts from Argentina and still imports them from the same single source.

His current motivation is to create something special for his twin girls and help more people to eat healthier by transforming peanut butter from breakfast to an all round ingredient in food.

He admires Liam Gallagher of Oasis and his Mother-in-law!

He loves the books Material world by E.Conway; Walking in Destiny by W.Churchill; and Let my people go surfing by Y.Chouinard

Just because you have 8-9 roles does not mean that you should not define each role.

Tips - just start (a business), it will change through time; don't quit your job until you breakthrough; as you grow, be aware of an ever growing to do list; and good luck favours those who keep going!
