| Serial Killer Conversations: 'Remote the Six' with Eric Rickstad | 03 Apr 2025 | 00:37:17 | |
On today's 219th episode of The Thriller Zone with host Dave Temple, we dive into the world of thrillers with New York Times bestselling author Eric Rickstad. This show is like a rollercoaster ride through the dark alleys of crime fiction, and Eric’s latest book, 'Remote the Six', isn't just another run-of-the-mill serial killer tale; it’s a captivating blend of FBI drama and the uncanny world of remote viewing, where the line between reality and the supernatural gets a little blurry. As Eric explains, his protagonist, Lucas Stark, is thrust into a chilling manhunt that requires him to team up with an enigmatic remote viewer, Giles Garner, who’s been vetted by the FBI director himself. The stakes are high with families being killed across states, and the clock is ticking. In a world where skepticism reigns supreme, Stark's reluctance to trust Garner adds layers of tension and intrigue. Eric shares his inspiration from real-life events, weaving personal anecdotes that give us a glimpse into his creative process. Eric's knack for storytelling is evident, as he pulls us into the story, making us question everything—much like Stark does. This episode is a masterclass in how to craft suspense and keep readers on the edge of their seats, with Eric's insights on character development and pacing being particularly valuable for aspiring writers. Whether you’re a fan of thrillers or just love a good story, there’s something for everyone in this engaging conversation. Links referenced in this episode: Companies mentioned in this episode:

| Ryan Steck puts his heart into writing MONARCH for Ted Bell's legacy | 20 Mar 2025 | 00:45:23 | |
On today's 218th episode of The Thriller Zone with Dave Temple, we're diving into the heart of thriller fiction as we chat with Ryan Steck, The Real Book Spy, and Byrdie Bell, the daughter of the late Ted Bell, a New York Times Bestselling author. We launch discussing "Monarch," the new thriller penned by Steck which respects the legacy of Ted’s iconic Alex Hawke series. I for one, feel it's a deeply emotional ride filled with heartfelt moments and behind-the-scenes stories that’ll give you the goosebumps. Sure, we hit a few tech (video) snags at the start—who doesn’t love a good tech hiccup? But don’t worry, we’ve got all the juicy audio goodness for you to enjoy. Plus, we sprinkle in some classic clips of Ted himself, because who doesn’t want to hear from the master? I trust you'll enjoy as we navigate the emotional landscape of Ted's legacy. Ted became a sincere friend in such a short time, and Ryan, who penned the latest Alex Hawke thriller, 'Monarch', echoes the fondness we share of a man who genuinely brought light to this world. One thing I particularly like is when Ryan shares his intimate journey of channeling Ted's voice while crafting a new chapter for this beloved character. An added bonus is when Byrdie offers a heartfelt glimpse into her father's storytelling genius, recalling cherished childhood memories filled with his animated storytelling and the creation of fantastical worlds. All together, we explore the intricacies of preserving a literary legacy while infusing fresh narratives that resonate with both new and longtime fans. | Joey Hartstone, author of The Local and EP of Showtime’s "Your Honor" | 08 Feb 2023 | 00:59:05
On today's 119th episode of The Thriller Zone I am double-stoked to present a power-packed podcast. Why? I have not one but TWO super-stars on the show. The first superstar is my lovely and talented wife and today's co-host, Tammy. As I'm sure by now, especially if you've caught any of the shows where Tammy worked by my side, she's a delight to watch and listen to. The second superstar and our VSG, or Very Special Guest, is Joey Hartstone. You may recall meeting Joey last June when he came on the podcast to discuss his debut thriller The Local. It's an exceptional read, and hard to imagine his first thriller. The extra bonus of today's podcast? Joey is now the Showrunner and Executive Producer of the hit Showtime series, Your Honor, starring Bryan Cranston. If you haven't seen the show yet, it's, as they say, "worth the price of admission." So, if you don't subscribe yet, do so now. I'm happy to have Joey back, not only to talk more about his book, The Local, which is doing exceptionally well, but to discuss a television show that Tammy and I think is simply among the very best writing in television today. And no, I'm not just saying that because Joey is our guest; we loved the show way before he took over the EP reigns. Kick back, pour yourself a little something--unless of course you're driving, and enjoy one of the funnest and finest hours of podcasts you'll hear this week. We hope so, anyway. | Eric Beetner, author of "There and Back" | 01 Feb 2023 | 00:51:41
On today's 118th episode of The Thriller Zone, I'm happy to sit down with the multi-talented & prolific crime-thriller novelist, Mr. Eric Beetner. Eric has a style that has some of the biggest names around shouting his praise. Meg Gardiner, author of Into The Black Nowhere says, "Last chances, double-crosses, and a cop who has to shoot his way out of a fortified skyscraper-what's not to love? ALL THE WAY DOWN rips!" Publisher's Weekly says of Beetner's work, "[His] searing novel bulldozes its way from one scene to another in the print equivalent of a blockbuster action film." And Crimespree Magazine says, "Eric once again proves that he is the one true master of the modern pulp novel." WOW, right? With those sorts of accolades, how can you NOT read his work. Today, Eric and I chat building suspense, the contrasts of city with wilderness in his latest THERE AND BACK, as well as discuss what it would take to not only face the topic of his latest thriller, but what would one do when faced with a truth that must not be unearthed. | Remembering Ted Bell, New York Times Bestselling Author | 26 Jan 2023 | 02:17:49
On today's Special 2-Hour Bonus Episode of The Thriller Zone, we honor the life of one of the world's finest talents. New York Times Bestselling author Ted Bell passed away this past week, leaving behind a loving family, and a legion of avid fans. As the creator of the Alex Hawke Series, among other titles, I will fondly remember Ted as a Southern gentleman with a stylish flair, a wonderful sense of humor, and a genuine zest for life. Today's show features two past episodes of The Thriller Zone, back to back, and shows just what a wonderful and engaging storyteller Ted was. I wish he hadn't left so soon, as there was so much he had yet to give, and there were so many cocktails we had yet to enjoy. I, like many others, were lucky to call him friend, so lift a glass and toast one of our finest authors, as we Remember Ted Bell. The Thriller Zone promises to wrap 2024 in a BIG way...Stay Tuned! Our guest is New York Times Bestselling Author Grady Hendrix and he's written a book called How To Sell A Haunted House. Yes, it's a thriller. Yes, it's horror story. And yes, it's bloody funny. Rarely do you find a book this multi-dimensional, or a guest who's got this vivid of an imagination. But today, you do. Sit back, relax (if you can), and enjoy my briefer-than-most conversations with a true genuis. | Brad Taylor, New York Times Bestselling Author with The Devil’s Ransom | 18 Jan 2023 | 01:04:48
On today's 115th Episode of an all new season of The Thriller Zone, I'm stoked and honored to welcome New York Times Bestselling author, Brad Taylor. I've been trying to get Brad on The TZ for a long time now, and finally our stars and paths and chicken bones all crossed and connected. And just in the nick of time, as his latest military-flavored thriller, The Devil's Ransom, drops on Tuesday, January 24th. What perfect timing, right? Brad helps me (a) Kick off a New Year, (b) he officially launches our 4th Season, and (c) we get to compare notes on BBQ, Best Beaches in the country, Texas vs South Carolina (in the fight for Southern Supremacy-ish), and (d) we get the INSIDE SCOOP on where he gets some of the nicknames of his NYT bestselling series. If you'd like to pre-order a copy today, I'll provide a link at the bottom of this page. And trust me, if you're a PIKE LOGAN fan (his lead guy), you'll snatch this puppy up in a blink! If you're not familiar with Brad, here's bit of nifty background: Brad Taylor was born on Okinawa, Japan, but grew up on 40-acres in rural Texas. Graduating from the University of Texas, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry, where he served for more than 21 years, retiring as a Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel. During his service, he held numerous Infantry and Special Forces positions, including eight years in 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment – Delta, where he commanded multiple troops and a squadron. Finally, he has conducted operations in support of US national interests in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other classified locations. Now, just a few things you will hear in the show that I think it's worth noting for future, deeper consideration. Several of them are as follows: Charleston, South Carolina is a mighty fine city. And worth visiting if you ever get a chance. Folly Beach is quite possibly one of the nicest beaches on the East Coast. Mount Pleasant is just as its name states: a pleasant place to live (although there are no mountains in the area). Lewis Barbecue is one helluva restaurant. It's Texas style, and created by the owner, founder, and master of BBQ, John Lewis. John never cuts corners, unless you’re talking about burnt ends of, course. The pit master’s cult-like following can be attributed to his unerring dedication to barbecue, from welding his own custom-designed smokers to waking up at 4 a.m. to tend to the fire, he takes his meat seriously. Barbecue enthusiasts have flocked to his pits for years, waiting in long lines to get a taste of his expertly smoked pork spareribs, beef ribs, “Texas hot guts” sausage, oxtail, and his legendary beef brisket. You can stop in and enjoy (but forget reservations) here: 464 N Nassau St, Charleston, SC 29403. Call ahead to see if they have a spot: +1 843 805 9500, but go anyway. Also, if you're an aspiring writer like me, or a seasoned professional like Brad T, you need a rock-solid, -kicking, and super- website. As you'll hear in the show, we're both fans of the dudes & gals over at Authorbytes.com who built, manage and support our sites. Brad's is: BradTaylorBooks.com. Mine is: DavidTempleBooks.com. You can follow BT on Twitter @bradtaylorbooks and DT @thethrillerzone Lastly, if you want to buy Brad's THE DEVILS RANSOM, CLICK HERE. I don't get anything from this, I just believe in his talents. Perhaps in the (near) future, Amazon will bless me with some kind commissions, but they will NEVER come out of YOUR pocket. So there! Are you still reading? If you are, you really ARE a fan. Now, click the BUTTON and LISTEN to the podcast,...
| 2023 Kicks off with Micro-Podcast! | 03 Jan 2023 | 00:05:10 | |
On this 114th "micro-episode" of The Thriller Zone, yours truly gives you a super brief update of where #TheTZ stands as it pertains to the New Year. In short, (1) our guest authors will join us to record on Mondays, (2) then those new shows will now drop on Wednesdays, (3) authors of all ranks, that's self-pub'd, newbies, or New York Times Bestsellers, can now advertise on our podcast! With super reasonable rates, just a very few rules, and lots of exposure, this seems to be a terrific way for everyone to win. Why? Because authors get exposure, this podcast gains a bit of help to defray costs, and listeners get to meet and learn about many authors they may not have known about. One last bit of news, because my lovely wife, Tammy, brought so much goodness and light to the Year End Extravaganza, and because of popular demand, she has agreed to return to co-host The Thriller Zone in the future. Okay, that's it for now, and while this isn't an "official podcast, complete with Super Star Talent and such," it marks what's in store for the new year. Last thing: Whether you're a brand new author, or an esteemed New York Times Bestseller, you can appear on the show. All you need is to follow these brief criteria:
The reason for these rules is that there's only so many slots on the show, and the host has only so much time to read/prep/record/post (as well as write his own books). So thanks for playing along. As mentioned in the promo, if you'd like to advertise your book(s) on this podcast, go to: TheThrillerZone.com then contact us at thethrillerzone (at) gmail, and thank you! Cheers, David Temple Mentioned in this episode: Advertize on TheTZ Are you an aspiring thriller writer? Have a book coming out soon? Want to get noticed...AND sell books? | The Dave & Tammy Top 10 Year End Extravaganza | 29 Dec 2022 | 01:12:38
On today's 113th Episode of The Thriller Zone, we celebrate 2022 with THE DAVE & TAMMY TOP 10 YEAR END EXTRAVAGANZA! Today’s show is extra fun because I get to spend it with my beautiful and talented wife, Tammy. By the way, it just so happens we’ll be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary tomorrow; so, there's an extra reason to celebrate. Our show will highlight some of the very best entertainment we’ve enjoyed this past year. That includes our “Top 10 Favorite Books, TV Series and Movies of ’22." And before you get butt-hurt you didn’t make the list, no need to worry because many of the 50-to-60 (or so) guests this past year didn’t make it either. I say 50 to 60 only because there were times I hosted 2 episodes a week, while at others, there may have been only one. Either way, there’s plenty of entertainment to go around, so let's have FUN! Also, while Tammy and I certainly have different tastes, we share a good many favorites, mainly because we devour so much entertainment together on any day, night or weekend. There are so many people to thank for making this show possible, mainly because YOU, my faithful listener and/or viewer. Without YOU there on the other end of this microphone, well, frankly, I’d just be talking to myself. So, thank you. Also, I want to say thanks for all the 5-star reviews you’ve given The Thriller Zone over the past year, either by ApplePodcasts, Spotify, directly on our website, TheThrillerZone.com, or any other podcast listening space. Again, thank you, the kind words mean a lot and let us know we’re being enjoyed all around the world. Special thanks for the support of the following people who have helped make The Thriller Zone the hotspot for thriller writers and readers around the globe: While this list doesn't come close to exhausting the vast talent who made appearances on the show, it represents the names mentioned in the show today. | Philip Fracassi, author of A Child Alone With Strangers | 24 Nov 2022 | 01:27:55
On today's 108th episode of the world famous Thriller Zone, we welcome horror thriller writer Philip Fracassi, with his new epic-sized thriller called A Child Alone With Strangers. I say epic because it clocks in just shy of 600 white-knuckler pages. And if you're not familiar with PF, like I wasn't, then you're in for a real treat. Think: Stephen King, but slightly different. Okay, there are other comparisons, but that's the one that gets to the point quickly. Our conversation is vivid, and switches channels constantly between writing style and technique, to influences we've had, as well as a wide swath of literary magazines and groups with whom Philip has worked. All in all, it's the perfect way to KICK OFF OUR HORROR THRILLER ADDITION to The Thriller Zone. On today's Surprise Spontaneous On-Location 106th Episode of The Thriller Zone, my guest is Matt Coyle. Matt's latest Rick Cahill Thriller, Doomed Legacy, is available now. I spoke with Matt on location at Warwick's Bookstore in La Jolla, CA, just moments before we went on stage to present to the audience his latest masterpiece. As I said, the moment was spontaneous, the episode is shorter than most, but it was an experiment of sorts to see how interviewing and producing on the fly, but "not exactly live" would work. Fortunately, my sponsor, Warwick's Bookstore, was super helpful and excited to play along, as evidence by the on-the-fly sponsorship placement by the lovely and talented Julie Slavinsky, Events Coordinator for Warwick's, both in store and online. | Andrew Child, New York Times Bestselling Author of No Plan B | 20 Oct 2022 | 01:37:18
Today, we celebrate an epic milestone, as we launch our 100th Episode of The Thriller Zone. Woo-Hoo! Yeah, we're stoked! Who better to help celebrate the "Mighty 100" but the co-author of one of the most iconic thriller franchises in the world: Jack Reacher. Yes, Andrew Child and brother Lee Child have penned yet another page-turning thriller in NO PLAN B. On today's show, we dig deep on what makes this franchise the success it is. We also learn, thanks to the free-flowing thoughts of Andrew, some of the best advice I've heard since I began this podcast. Perhaps it's because I'm not that crazy about following rules, or the fact how I've often forged my own path, but when I heard "Ignore the rules," I knew I had a friend in Andrew Child. Andrew, who also writes under his given name of Andrew Grant, peels back the layers on the publishing business, what it takes to create a winning franchise, what it's like to write with his older brother, Lee, and so much more. If you enjoy (a) page-turning thrillers, from (b) authors who know how to craft stories that waste no time getting to the point, and (c) enjoy hearing the "inside scoop" on the writing business (and finding one's personal motivation), then You Are In For A Treat! | Riley Sager, author of The House Across The Lake | 06 Oct 2022 | 00:56:21
On today's 98th episode of The Thriller Zone, we welcome New York Times Bestselling Author, Riley Sager. Riley is the mastermind behind The House Across The Lake, a thriller with "A Hitchcockian premise that is given an exciting new spin," according to NYT Bestselling author, Alex Michaelides, author of The Silent Patient. On today's show, Riley and I dig deep into what makes a thriller such a page-turner, and--without giving away any secrets--discuss some of the tricks to crafting a novel people will talk about for months after its release. I met Riley at Thrillerfest in New York, where I heard him speak on a panel of authors. He gave solid advice to that crowd, and he shares even more solid advice on today's podcast. My favorite moment comes when Riley shares the nearly fantastical and thoroughly random story of how Stephen King came to read this book, and turn around to write a blurb that Riley says, "literally changed my life overnight." | Adam Hamdy, the author of The Other Side of Night | 22 Sep 2022 | 01:24:16
On today's 96th Episode of The Thriller Zone, I'm 101% jazzed to welcome THE Adam Hamdy, author of many epic thrillers, and the very latest The Other Side of Night. In this show, Adam and I of course chat about the book, we refer to some of his other books, much different than this one, but we also veer off the beaten path. Several times. And for me? Those "off the beaten path" moments are among my very favorite. Why? Because it's "real conversation" from two "dudes" who greatly admire one another and enjoy a good chat. Adam also took this show a step further for me. How? He introduced me to not one, or two, but THREE other authors, none of whom I'd ever heard of before. They are:
Thank you, Adam. I've purchased two of the three, and have the third coming to my library soon. There's more to unbox in this show, as Adam and I travel down the paths of several obscure topics, from our favorite vintage t-shirts, and why dudes like us enjoy buying several copies of a shirt we particularly adore. We chat at length about his new home in Maritius, which is an African island in the Indian Ocean, about as far away from "standard civilization" as one can get. But that's grand, isn't it? Not to mention WAY cheaper to live. Learn more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauritius There's SO much solid, in-depth conversation that I implore you to lend your ears to the slightly-over-an-hour show. It's worth the time. | Hotel California, a compilation of short stories from today’s best authors | 08 Sep 2022 | 01:09:01
Today's 93rd episode of The Thriller Zone is special and slightly off the beaten path. I say this because today we will meet a total of not one, but EIGHT of the world's best mystery & thriller writers. Visiting us today is Andrew Child, Don Bruns, John Gilstrap, Reed Farrel Coleman, Heather Graham, Amanda Flower, Rick Bleiweiss, and Jennifer Graeser Dornbush. Their mystery-thriller short story compilation is themed around one of the most popular bands of all times, and one of their most popular records. The band: The Eagles. The record: Hotel California. Their stories are entitled, in order of the authors just listed, as follows: New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane, Wasted Time, Victim of Love, Pretty Maids all in a Row, Try and Love Again, The Last Resort, and Hotel California. Today's episode is one of the highlights of this show's year. Why? Where else can you get so much talent in one place at one time? They are each amazing talents, with a bevy of books and series to their credit. And perhaps my favorite parts? They're some of the nicest, most approachable people you'll ever meet. And the insights into the writing business? Profound. | David Ellis, New York Times Bestselling Author of LOOK CLOSER | 25 Aug 2022 | 01:03:05
Today's 89th Episode of The Thriller Zone welcomes New York Times Bestselling Author, David Ellis. As though that superlative title isn't enough, David is also an Edgar-Award Winner. This podcast will go down in my books as one of my favorites. Why? Call it the sharing of similar interests, two guys enjoying chatting about their favorite things, like Chicago, football, good old-fashioned terrestrial radio, and of course, our mutual appreciation for really good books. David has written a whopper of a page-turner. I'm not kidding. I think I read this book (which reaches nearly 500 pages) in about two days; it's THAT good. Hey, I'll stop typing, so you can stop reading, and instead start LISTENING to the podcast...or WATCHING on our YouTube Channel. But trust me when I say, you will most definitely be running to your local bookstore (please?), or visiting your local library (another superb idea), or more than likely ordering from Amazon. As I mention in the show, I have a Top 10 Fave Reads for Summer '22; however, I'm likely going to extend that to 13...because there are just so many good reads this year. When it comes time to learn more about David, which I might add includes co-writing with the legendary talent James Patterson, you can learn of his other books, one of which is a series, and do so by visiting: DavidEllis.com (a fellow AuthorBytes.com alum, I might add). | Halley Sutton, author of The Lady Upstairs | 22 Aug 2022 | 00:39:59
On today's 88th Episode of The Thriller Zone, we welcome Halley Sutton, a relative newcomer to the thriller zone; although you'd never know it by her thriller, The Lady Upstairs. The reason I say that is because this "freshman debut" is anything but naive. Instead, it's rich, propulsive, and so Chandler-esque, I dare you to put it down. Halley lives and writes in Los Angeles, and has such a solid sense of what works that it's easy to see how she'll be one of those writers we'll be hearing from for a long time. Kick back and enjoy this interview, as I'm sure you'll glean more than a few insights that you can put toward your next work. To learn more visit: HalleySutton.com. | Nick Petrie, author of The Runaway | 18 Aug 2022 | 00:59:09
On today's 87th episode of The Thriller Zone, I'm stoked to welcome national bestselling author Nick Petrie to the show. His runaway hit, The Runaway (sorry, I couldn't help myself) is one of those rare books you just have a hard time putting down. Seriously, I devoured it in record time. The only bad thing? I didn't want it to end. Nick is an accomplished writer of the Peter Ash Series, someone who Lee Child has said, "Lots of characters get compared to my own Jack Reacher, but Peter Ash is the real deal." Some mighty high praise coming from the legendary Lee Child. Join us as Nick shares the journey of The Runaway, but it's his deep insights as to what it takes to become a number one bestseller that both impressed me, and will surely leave you thinking. READ THIS BOOK, and then follow him to learn when his next books will be released. | Shanti Hershenson, author of NEVERDYING | 16 Aug 2022 | 00:44:44
On today's special "squeeze-in bonus episode," it's my pleasure to welcome Shanti Hershenson to The Thriller Zone. Shanti, besides being the youngest author to grace The TZ airwaves, is quite likely one of the most prolific writers I've met...especially when you consider she's only 14. Not only that, she's been writing since she was 6! If you're a fan of Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and enjoy hearing from new & up-and-coming authors, AND you enjoy supporting new talent who is excited about their craft, then you're going to love getting to know Shanti and learning of her novel, NEVERDYING. With interests that also include skateboarding, falconry, and reading poetry at open mic nights, Shanti shows a breadth of interests that will no doubt influence her writing career. | Kelly J. Ford, author of Real Bad Things | 15 Aug 2022 | 01:01:04
On today's Bonus Episode of The Thriller Zone, Kelly J. Ford visits to talk about her latest Southern Noir Thriller, Read Bad Things. Since we're both from the South, her from Arkansas and me from North Carolina, we instantly slipped into a comfortable spot behind the mic. What I like best about Kelly is what you see is what you get. I've always been drawn to people who are real and don't put on airs. She's the real deal, and I have a very solid feeling that she'll do just fine in this writing world. Listen to about halfway through, as she allows me to read the opening of her book. It's beautiful, poetic, and although somber, has real visceral feelings inside. Then, along about 3/4 of the way in, we start talking about her influences. And there are many. We also cover her best writing advice; again, something any aspiring writer should hear. In the end, it feels like we'd known one another for decades. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if one day we'll gather around a campfire, along with a few bottles of wine (or a handful of gummies), and tell some tall tales. Take an hour, kick your shoes off, and rest a spell, while you listen to two new friends have a bit of fun chatting. To learn more about Kelly, visit: KellyJFord.com and follow her on Twitter @Kelly_J_Ford As always, I invite you to follow our podcast, either on TheThrillerZone.com, on YouTube.com/TheThrillerZone, or on Twitter & Instagram @thethrillerzone. | Meg Gardiner, Edgar-winning author of HEAT 2 | 11 Aug 2022 | 01:03:59
What can I say about a gal who is one of the best thriller writers in the world today? I'll tell you: She's done it again. Topped herself, that is. On today's 84th Episode of The Thriller Zone, Meg Gardiner has teamed up with the legendary filmmaker Michael Mann to craft an epic saga that is part prequel, part sequel, and incorporates references to the original Heat, making it one helluva second effort, while standing strong as a stand-alone. You no doubt know Mann's work in Blackhat, Miami Vice, Collateral, Ali, The Insider, HEAT, The Last of the Mohicans, and Thief, to name a few. Meg and I met a few years ago when she was signing books at Warwick's bookstore in La Jolla. She appeared with Don Winslow. I saw her again at Thrillerfest 2019, and along the way, she's appeared on both of my podcasts, The Thriller Zone, and the former Naked Monday. Each time she sits down behind the microphone with me, I sit in wonder at the depth of her amazing talent. And I should mention that I first discovered he work by reading her Caitlin Hendricks UNSUB series, but soon went back and read much of her earlier work. Suffice it to say that if you love page-turning thrillers that educate and enlighten, while scaring the out of you, you MUST read Meg Gardiner. On today's show we discuss a good many things: her home fire, her UNSUB Series, writing conferences and more. She shares terrific insights through her writing advice, and we share more than several good laughs. I hope you enjoy the show today; it's soon to be a favorite. Furthermore, I trust you'll read HEAT 2, a truly electrifying novel that'll keep you glued to your seat...or in my case, to my hammock (a favorite reading spot). | Eli Cranor, author of Don’t Know Tough | 08 Aug 2022 | 00:58:24
On today's 83rd Episode of The Thriller Zone, special debut author Eli Cranor stops by to chew the fat about his debut runaway hit, "Don't Know Tough." From one Southern boy to another, this dude gets it right, on so many levels. The feeling of the deep south, the characters who play in that world, and a heart-wrenching story about the not-so-small world of high school football in a small southern town. As author Ace Atkins says, "Eli knows the underbelly of Friday night lights in this stunning debut that bleeds authenticity and raw emotion." Eli has walked the walk, by both playing and coaching football, and even today, teaches high-schoolers what it means to live and learn and win in life. I think you'll appreciate the laidback demeanor of my guest, and the insights he brings as a debut author to the world of publishing. You'll also get an "inside peek" into his "special writing space," how he entertains his kids (and pets), and just how much he loves the craft of storytelling. | Dean Koontz, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Big Dark Sky | 21 Jul 2022 | 01:14:39
Today, marks a milestone in the history of this podcast; actually, it's two fold. First, I'm proud to introduce you to Year #2, aka Season 3, and Episode #78 of The Thriller Zone. Second, I am honored to welcome one of the genuine legends in the literary world, Mr. Dean Koontz. I, like you, have been following him for decades, and have been amazed at his prolific output of one terrific suspense thriller after another. For nearly 6 decades, Dean has been crafting suspense novels that incorporate horror, fantasy, science fiction, and mystery, making him one of the most well-known, most prolific, and most highly regarded writers of this generation. And the amazing thing? At 77, he shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. In fact, with a work ethic that plants him in a chair and behind a keyboard for 8 to 10 hours a day, six, and often seven days a week, Koontz is the quintessential example of the "hardest working writer" today. This podcast not only marks our Second Year on the charts, but this episode marks one of the highlights of my interviewing career. And as you'll see in the show, I find myself "geeking out" just a little bit. But then, having admired his body of work from afar for as long as I've been alive, it's not a hard thing to imagine. Please join me as we talk about Dean's "Magic Sauce" to crafting thrillers; listen as he shares stories that date back decades ago, to a time when writing thrillers was just beginning to gain particular traction; and take away some sage advice from a master who has spent his entire career perfecting his craft. As he says early on, he was suffering a bit of laryngitis, so it may be a wee bit hard to hear him from time to time, but trust me when I say I've done pretty much everything in my power to craft and tweak the audio to the best of my ability. Special thanks to: Auphonics.com for their assistance. Don't forget to stay until the end. Why? You get a chance to WIN a FREE copy of his latest thriller: The Big Dark Sky. Just follow the three easy steps, and we'll announce the winner shortly. For more information visit: DeanKoontz.com and follow him on Twitter @deankoontz and Instagram @deankoontzofficial.
