After 7 years of bedside care, Beth returned to school and completed her Master’s degree in anesthesia in 1999. She obtained her Doctorate degree in 2010 so she could give back to her profession by educating the next generation of certified registered nurse anesthetists.

She has a passion for inspiring others to find joy in their profession and helping those dealing with burnout. After her own burnout, she decided to share others’ stories by starting a podcast called Don’t Eat Your Young. From Nurse Practitioner to Independent Practice to Co-Founder of The Institute for Pelvic Health04 Jun 202100:35:09
Description

#62 - This episode is part of our series on nurses who took the leap to leave their traditional nursing position and go full-time on their entrepreneurial journey during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, we’re talking with Kathy Kates. Kathy is a family nurse practitioner and pelvic floor therapist. Kathy’s firsthand knowledge about pelvic health comes from her experience as a mom and a former cancer patient. Her work is enhanced by over 10 years as a nurse practitioner, running a women’s health program at a federally qualified health center.

Listen in as Kathy tells us her story of going from burned-out nurse practitioner to co-founder of The Institute for Pelvic Health.

One of the biggest decisions you have to make in your journey from side hustle to full-time entrepreneur is when to make the leap. In “normal” times this is a hard decision, but the uncertainty of the pandemic has brought a new set of challenges. And yet a large number of nurses have decided to do just that; leave the “security” of their traditional nursing job and go full time with their business. And the results have been tremendously positive. I want to share their inspiring stories with you.

Show Notes

If you’re interested in starting your entrepreneurial journey, I’d like to invite you to one of our free webinars. During this webinar training Janine Kelbach and I teach you what a lifestyle business is, and the framework we discovered to starting and growing a successful lifestyle business. More about Kathy

Kathy is a family nurse practitioner and pelvic floor therapist. Kathy’s firsthand knowledge about pelvic health comes from her experience as a mom and a former cancer patient. Kathy works with Melissa Hines, a pelvic floor physical therapist. They utilize an interdisciplinary holistic approach to pelvic health in both the clinic and mentorship. This unique approach works so beautifully, that Kathy and Melissa were inspired to create the Institute for Pelvic Health. The Institute for Pelvic Health empowers nurse practitioners by providing real pelvic floor education for real clinical situations with free weekly YouTube videos. New Years Day is the perfect time to stop and reflect on where you are now, where you want to be a year from now, 5 years from now, even 10 years from now, and how you are going to get there.

In today’s episode It’s New Year’s Resolution Time, Let’s Get Things Done In 2021!  So how can we make sure we keep our resolutions and reach our goals? That’s what we’re going to talk about on today’s episode of The Stay At Home Nurse Podcast.

Show Notes

Let’s talk resolutions, goals, and how to rock this new year.

Here’s the 3-step process that has helped me to reach some of my goals.

  1. Pick the right goals.
  2. Put a process in place to achieve the goals.
  3. Follow through with the process.

The difficulty of the goal you set isn't nearly as important as whether or not you create the right process to achieve that goal -- and whether you follow the process you create

If you happen to be a remote nurse or if you're a non-nurse friend who's interested, I invite you to listen to this episode, know more about this initiative, and together let's resuscitate the love, generosity, appreciation, and support that we showered upon our frontline healthcare workers. They need it now more than ever.

Many telehealth nurses feel the same way I do about wanting to help their former coworkers. We can mobilize this feeling into real action that gives a much-needed lift to hospital staff and restaurants everywhere.

More About Jill

Jill grew up in Miami in the seventies and eighties playing tennis, roller skating, and doing aerobics. She went to Emory University, graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and earned an MA in English Literature from the University of Colorado. Afterward, Jill taught English abroad, taught writing at CU, and decided to pursue nursing. She initially wanted to specialize in sexual health education as a public health nurse and fix the whole teenage pregnancy problem. However, while earning her doctorate, she learned that hospital nurses get four days off every week. So, Jill became an ER nurse instead. She's worked in Colorado, Wyoming, California, Florida, and Australia. She's volunteered in Central America and pedaled as a medic on bicycle tours across Africa. After a 20-year ER career, she recently started a new chapter as an RN on the virtual team at One Medical Group, saving lives from her living room. Jill also volunteers at the humane society, travels extensively, backpacks, bike packs, dances, snowboards, teaches fitness, and is a varsity squad friend.

Make Easy Money From Home as an Affiliate: Nurse Side Hustle & Entrepreneur Series06 Nov 202000:16:35
Description

#039 - Imagine getting money deposited to your bank account every month for recommending products and services you use and trust. Or getting sent a product you want for free to try it out and then spread the word. That’s the beauty of affiliate marketing. Not to be confused with Network marketing.

Today’s episode of The Stay at Home Nurse Podcast is a Nursing Side Hustle and Nurse Entrepreneur episode where you're going to learn about Affiliate marketing.

  • You will learn what affiliate marketing is.
  • How you can make money as an affiliate.
  • How to become an affiliate marketer.
  • The pros and cons of various affiliate networks.
  • We will also throw some examples of successful affiliate marketers for you.
Show Notes

Today I want to share with you an easy way to make money without trading time for $$.

You know I love working once and getting paid multiple times. Some people call it “passive income” but there is nothing passive about it. It is investing your time now and getting paid later. This means when you are doing something fun later, like going on vacation, playing with your kids, or even sleeping, you are making money.

Think of it as an investment, just like your IRA or 401K, but instead of investing money, you are investing time, and maybe a little bit of money. Then, at some point in the future, you will earn money, over and over again!

I am an affiliate for other companies' products, and I also have affiliates for some of my products such as my Foundations of Case Management Course (see Episode 35 Work From Home Nursing Jobs Series - Case Management) and my Utilization Management/MCG course (see Episode 36 Work From Home Nursing Jobs Series - Utilization Management).

Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting other people's (or company's) products. You find a product you like, promote it to others, and earn a piece of the profit for each sale that you make.

Affiliate Networks

  • ShareASale
  • ClickBank
  • Amazon Associates
  • eBay Partner Network (EPN)

To become an Amazon Associate, you must have an active website, blog, app, or YouTube channel. It's also helpful if you've pre-populated that site with content, so it appears active and authentic to both users and Amazon.

3 Nurse Career Investments to Make Before Investing in Another Degree02 Oct 202000:12:21
Description

#34 - In this episode, we will look at three small career investments you can make instead of, or before you make the big investment of another degree.

In episode 32 of The Stay at Home Nurse Podcast, which we will link to in the show notes, we looked at things to do instead of going back to school for another degree. I’ve had some great feedback from that episode so I wanted to expound on a few things.

First of all, I want to clarify I am not against going back to get another degree. But I do feel you should have a clear purpose for getting that degree. These three things we’re going to discuss today will help to make sure if you have that clear purpose. And you may find who actually don’t need to invest tens of thousands of dollars in another degree to get what you want out of your nursing career.
