A deadly disease strikes, and everyone is ill-equipped to handle it; a group of young people is stuck inside trying to escape, and they feel (and act) weird about it. This is the plot of Giovanni Boccaccio's 14th century story collection, set against the backdrop of the Black Death. For SOME REASON, this felt relevant to adapt in the early 2020s. Robin, Miriam, and returning guest Ellery discuss Netflix's Decameron mini-series, along with the actual Decameron, the COVID-19 pandemic, and how we depict, and discuss disease, and what feels like the end of the world.

We talk about gnostic horror, the reptile brain, demons, sexual and gender anxiety in scary media, how porn and horror movies relate as mediums that bring you into your body, does a movie have to be scary to be a good horror movie, what “hell” means and probably other stuff We discuss a lot of movies on this one and have spoilers for the following Hellraiser, Exorcist 3, Alien, Possession, Lake Mungo, Jacob’s ladder, and Shudder to name the most obvious.
