Episode 294
Wednesday, August 28, 2024 • Duration 23:06
The question I hear most frequently from people, whether they're starting out on their professional speaking journey, or they have been going at it for a while is this one …
"How do I get paid to speak consistently?"
All they're getting is the odd few gigs, then tumbleweed. They want a pipeline of speaking gigs but they don't know how to build it, or they're trying and failing miserably.
That's why in this show, I'm going to share the big obstacles to building your speaking gig pipeline, so that you can shortcut your journey to consistent speaking gigs.

[Quick Tip] Nuggets from the Speaker Summit - 294
Episode 293
Thursday, July 25, 2024 • Duration 24:11
I was at the Speaker Summit and Speaker Awards in London a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted to share some of the advice and tips from the experts there on the day.
In this show I'm covering:
The questions that can uncover speaking leads everywhere
How to turn your LinkedIn profile into a gig magnet
(Take a photo of your review, email it to me at sarah@saraharcher.co.uk and get a free e-copy of my book Cracking Speech Mate - How to Use Humour to Make You an Amazing Speaker!)
The other day I had a talk planning call with a potential client, and he said:
"I just want to get consistent results. Sometimes I start my talk and I can feel the energy shift, and I know I've engaged them. But other times, I just can't get their attention, and I want to understand how to do this consistently every time I speak."
The truth is that grabbing your audience's attention in the right way, (or 'hooking'' them in, as I call it), is one of the biggest stumbling blocks for a successful talk.
The first 180 seconds of your talk is perhaps the most crucial, and that's because in those two to three minutes you are communicating a lot to your audience without even realising it.
In this show, I'm going to show you how to make the most of that time, and to avoid the bear traps I so often see speakers falling into at the start of their talk.
Enjoy!
What you'll learn:
The messages you are communicating to your audience before you even start speaking.
The big mistakes a lot of speakers make with the start of their talk.
Why you should go for quantity over quality when you are looking for great ideas.
The questions you should ask yourself before you 'settle' for a talk title, open and close.
Why you should be provocative and what to do after.

Even TV, movies or books that you have chosen to engage with, have a finite time to grab your attention, before you switch off, and in the world of speaking and marketing, that window of time is even smaller.
In this show, I'm going to be sharing the what and the why of tiny stories that pack a big punch, so that you can make sure you're not missing your opportunity to make your message land.

That's what this show is all about. I'm going to be sharing the dynamics of change with you, so that you understand what levers you need to pull, and then I'm going to show you how to move them in the direction you want to go.
