Danny George Wilson11 Jun 202501:06:14

Episode 14 of The Sounds Like Us podcast and we have a genuine music legend, as we welcome Danny George Wilson, formerly of Grand Drive, Bennett, Wilson, Poole and currently of the fantastic Danny and The Champions of the World on to the pod.

Danny talks about his early life, emigrating from sunny Melbourne to 'sunny' South west London, how his dad influenced his early music inspiration, such as Bruce Springsteen. Danny also talks hitch-hiking with his dad to see The Fabulous Thunderbirds with Jimmy Vaughan, touring with The Jayhawks and the romantic song he wrote about 'Henry', the bands tour van. He also talks us through his lifetime in music, from forming the band Grand Drive with his brother Julian and the creative process with his sibling, to his work being part of the supergroup Bennett, Wilson, Poole and what its like being in a band with other established artists. Also fascinating to find out how Danny works creatively, and how he tries to embed influences from the places and people in his life into his music.

The new Danny and the Champions of the World album 'You Are Not a Stranger Here' is available in his incredible record store, Looking For The Magic, which is based in The Sound Lounge, Sutton, South London.
