Sobriety pros vs. cons | should you quit drinking?28 Oct 202500:47:09

In today’s episode, I’m breaking down all the amazing things I love about sobriety -but I’m also sharing the parts I don’t love. Of course, it’s hard to come up with true negatives, because almost every challenge comes with a silver lining. But I want to be real with you about both the frustrations and the rewards of this lifestyle, so you can hear it all from someone who is 16 months sober and decide what’s right for you.

Finding your WHY | why do you want to quit drinking?11 Sep 202500:34:55

In today’s episode, I’m going back to the very beginning of my sober journey and revisiting the ‘why’ I wrote down in my sobriety app on day one. Knowing our 'why' is such a powerful tool -it keeps us grounded, helps us stay focused when things get tough, and reminds us of the results and life we’re working toward.

BOREDOM... my biggest trigger09 Sep 202500:27:28

I hate the feeling of being bored, and the old me would have just drank away that feeling. Now in sobriety, we have to face that feeling and sit with our thoughts. It's a tough adjustment, and I honestly don't have a ton of advice to offer.

Today, I am venting... sharing something I still struggle with. Sobriety gets easier with time, but I'm still learning every day.

ADHD survival hacks (without alcohol)04 Sep 202500:50:09

Did you know that 43% of people with ADHD will develop a problem with alcohol? It is SO common for people to self-medicate with booze, and unfortunately... it works. That's why so many people fall down a bad path with alcohol -because it's an immediate band-aid fix, but it's not a long term solution.

In today's episode, I provide some life hacks for living life with ADHD, and we discuss why it's so common for ADHD'ers to turn to the bottle.

Dating Life in Sobriety | flirtation, first dates, and finding the one02 Sep 202500:31:41

I'm not going to lie, dating feels so weird without my comfort blanket. I used to drink alcohol in order to feel comfortable flirting with guys, making the first move, or to get through the first date jitters... and now I don't have that. So dating and flirting feels weird.

I've had a lot of "firsts" in sobriety, but dating is still not crossed off the list. I am loving life right now on my own, so it's tough to get in the mindset of bringing someone else into my little world. But I know it'll happen eventually.

In this episode, we talk about some little flirtatious glimmers I've had over the last year of being single and sober + we talk about why it's different to date as a sober person. Thanks for listening, and feel free to join our online support group below:

Moderating is hard... quitting is peace15 Jul 202500:20:33

Trying to limit our alcohol intake actually makes us think about booze WAY more than just quitting altogether, contrary to popular belief. Speaking from experience: quitting is peace. It clears your mind and frees up your headspace.

In today's episode, we talk about which moderating strategies I tried and how I failed at all of them. We also dive into the mental clarity and peace that comes with sobriety.

"Coming Out" as Sober | telling friends & family you're quitting alcohol03 Jul 202500:23:05

I get a lot of questions online about how to tell family, friends, and significant others that you are getting sober & quitting alcohol for good. This can be so intimidating for a number of reasons: Maybe they didn't even know you had a drinking problem? Maybe you're nervous to verbally commit to sobriety forever? Whatever your reason... I get it. All those things ran through my mind too, so in today's episode, I'm going to share how I told the people closest to me that I was getting sober.

Simplifying Sobriety | mentality shifts for success in sobriety26 Jun 202500:11:44

I'm hoping that these 4 mentality shifts can help you think of sobriety in a simpler way. My favorite one: all we have to do to stay sober is NOT drink... we don't have to DO anything! Simple right? Obviously an alcohol-free life comes with its struggles, but I hope that this helps you reframe the concept.

Digestion | We need to talk about poo...24 Jun 202500:18:39

If you’re squeamish, maybe skip this one -we’re diving into the very NOT glamorous side of having a drinking problem: digestive issues. My gut was a mess when I drank, and “food poisoning” was basically a weekly event. But after quitting, it healed almost instantly, and now when something’s off, I actually know what it is because alcohol isn’t muddying the waters. Digestive peace is honestly such a blessing, and it feels like I've cracked the code to life.

1 year sober | celebrating 365 days alcohol-free :)20 Jun 202500:18:34

Celebrating a different kind of birthday today: One year alcohol-free! And I couldn’t be more proud of myself. It’s actually shocking to look back over the last year and think about all that has changed in my life. I feel like a completely different person, both physically and emotionally. Letting go of one thing has given me everything, and I’m so grateful that one random Thursday in 2024, I decided to kick a substance that was no longer serving me. And, of course (because apparently none of us have an original experience), it was totally normal, and it even had a name: The Pink Cloud.

"You don't look like an Alcoholic"03 Jun 202500:17:31

What does an alcoholic "look like" anyway? Alcohol doesn't discriminate, and people of all different backgrounds, ages, and genders can struggle with it. High-functioning, isolated drinkers can hide behind their cover for a long time, especially when they don't fit society's portrayal of an alcoholic. Let's talk about this & more in today's episode.

Name Change: The Sober Scoop!! Welcome :)18 May 202500:05:41

Hold My Drink is now The Sober Scoop :) Starting Tuesday, all new episodes will be under the new name, so please make sure to subscribe/follow so you don't miss anything when the name changes over. Backstory on the name change below!

---

Why the change?

There is another podcast called Hold My Drink that is actually quite famous... the confusion between our two pages has already begun, so while the podcast is still new, I wanted to distinguish our show & also avoid any copyright/ trademark issues down the road. I also wanted a name with the word "sober" in it, so people could easily find it when searching for sobriety content on spotify/apple/etc. And the cherry on top... I love the name maybe even MORE than 'hold my drink.' Prepare yourself for all the ice cream puns with "scoop" haha! Anyways, thanks for being here & I hope you like the new name.
