The SHE Word Mums - Mums Without a 'Village’06 oct. 202601:31:25

What does "having a village" really mean in motherhood? What happens when that village looks different than expected?

In this episode of The She Word Mums, we explore the many faces of support, community, and connection through the experiences of three mothers whose journeys have taken very different paths.

Tara Alvarez Garcia shares her experience of navigating motherhood after losing her own mum, and the practical ways she navigates balancing her business and raising a family. Sarah Naudi opens up about raising her daughter abroad, far from family and familiar support systems. Sarah speaks openly about how her village is made up of more than other mothers, and the importance of staying true to herself and her dreams. Leah Camenzuli reflects on choosing to raise her children largely independently, without relying on outside help. She opens up about how her perspective changed after she suffered a loss, and the highs and sometimes conflicting lows of her choices.

Together, we have an honest conversation about the realities of modern motherhood: the mental load of carrying it all, the role of partners and husbands in parenting, the pressure to do everything, and the judgement mothers often face for the choices they make. We discuss what support really looks like, why community matters, and how acceptance of ourselves and each other, can help us move beyond comparison and guilt.

Whether you're surrounded by a village, building one, grieving one, or choosing a different path altogether, this episode is a reminder that there is no single right way.

TSW - Young Women's Edition - Young & Single30 sept. 202601:16:05

The Young Women’s edition is back - with a twist! Each show is hosted by a special guest host who leads a discussion on a topic close to their heart.

First up, welcome to The SHE Word regular Chelsea Bagnall-Falzon to host the table with three other super stars to discuss all the ins and outs of being single.

Newly-single-Chelsea sits down with fellow Love Islander

Italian Alessia Sarao, actress Naomi Said and the familiar face of Martha Attard. What follows is a brilliantly honest, fun and open conversation about all things young, free, single (and dating) that young women experience.

This show is like sitting down for an Aperol Spritz with four great friends to chat about things that matter and ‘put the world to rights’. The conversation flows through the topic of a single status, dating, dating apps and everything to do with relationships; cheating, toxic relationships, same sex relationships and the difference, ghosting and being ghosted, to finding ‘the one’. The ladies spill the beans and dish the dirt, no holds barred.

The show also takes a deeper dive into the expectations of family and friends, third wheeling with your best friend, beating the shame, permissions and freedom and navigating the prospect of not having a family.

Relaxed, informal and a whole load of fun, this show is a MUST for every young woman. ‘Be seen’ in every situation you have experienced. Tune in and hang out with the friends you didn’t know you had.

The SHE Word AFTERHOURS - Unfiltered with Special Guest James Ryder24 sept. 202601:14:33

We often get asked ‘why do you have men on The SHE Word? It is a Women’s Show’. True. The SHE Word is all about conversations Women rarely have, but once in a while it is good to get a male perspective. Most of us want to understand the less fairer sex bit better. After all, we want men as allies don’t we?

So every so often we ask guy to come and join the Afterhours Edition of the show and sit with Host Trudy and her regulars for this edition Sue Caruana and Tez Camilleri, and for this episode Comedian James Ryder sits at the table.

And as you would expect, there are some very funny conversations, but there are also some very serious discussions too. Based on James’s flirt with the MEP elections, the tables talks through the topic of politics; what would you do if you’re in charge of the country. The discussion moves on to the issue of the AC, Tattoos, Fashion.

Trudy puts the question ‘What do you think that the opposite sex need to know?’ With some very interesting and enlightening results. The guests also work their way around what we miss and what we think that 2026 could do without.

Along the way the team pick up on topics such as tech and AI, bright white ceiling lights and the importance of being bored.

This edition of The SHE Word is less censored and more light hearted, but don’t be fooled into thinking there isn’t some very meaningful moments too.

This is a show for everyone. Sit down, kick back and enjoy.

The SHE Word - Everything a Woman Needs to Know About Her Body and Mind17 sept. 202601:35:04

“Women are not small men”. That sounds like an obvious statement, but it is really isn’t.

Women are characterised by a 28 day (average) cycle, a complex reproductive system, a mind that is active all waking hours (unlike our male counterparts), a mindset that has a natural focus on caring, and an ever changing role in society.

Add to this societal pressures to aim for perfection, expectations to hold down a career, be a mum, financially strong and independent, to be fit, slim, successful and defy the natural progress of age, and it is easy to understand why women are living in the most stressful generations of all time.

Stress, Anxiety, Expectations and just Being A Women all takes a toll on the body, mind and emotions. In this show Trudy sits down with Psychologist Roberta Farrugia Debono, Gynaecologist Chiara Frendo Balzan and certified lifestyle coach & licensed pharmacist Marie Micallef to find out what we really need to know about ourselves as women that we may be unaware of, or have taken for granted.

From Mental Load to Menstrual Cycles, Body Trauma to Beauty Standards and Fertility to Female Well Being, and everything else, the ladies at the table tackled the topic with insight, humour, relatable stories and a 360 approach to being a woman.

This show drops a bag of golden nuggets to help you make your life easier, more comfortable, more understood - at the very least, you will feel more seen and have greater understanding of what is happening to you, your body and your mind.

The SHE Word Mums - When Things Don't Go According To Plan10 sept. 202601:41:54

This is the episode you want to watch with a packet of tissues as the emotions are high. In this episode of TSWM,

Nerissa sits down with 3 women to discuss when motherhood doesn’t go to plan. When you plan to start a family or when you imagine your children, you never quite imagine a disability or a diagnosis hanging over their head.

No one dreams of holding their baby only to be told that there is something wrong. As a mum, you only want the best for your child and knowing they will be facing a world which is not quite built for them brings challenges, heart break and grief.

The three mums in this show are Yazmin Helledie, Michelle de Maria and Sharon Attard de Giovanni. These ladies have a raw and emotional conversation about their inner feelings and how they navigated the disability and diagnosis, how they accepted the curve ball life threw their way in order to be able to adapt to their new reality.

They talk of shock, heartbreak but also so much joy in everyday life raising these incredible warriors and advocating for a more inclusive society and a kinder world for them - because after all, they too deserve to take up space and have their voices heard.

The Voices of Women in Power - Vanessa Frazier, brought to you by The SHE Word03 sept. 202601:46:31

Vanessa Frazier is the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict. Vanessa has a long and illustrious career in the diplomatic core, is decorated and honoured by various governments and states for the work she has done.

But Vanessa has hit the headlines and gone viral around the world when she has spoken out and been attacked by high ranking officials, most recently her high profile ‘run in’ with the Israeli Ambassador to the UN.

In this powerful and passionate interview, Trudy talks to Vanessa about the incidents of apparent misogyny that she has encountered over the course of her career, the death threats, the abuse, the sexual slurs, and personal attacks.

Vanessa explains the role that she hols within the UN and emphasises the importance of those who are passionate for peace and justice. She also shares her views on world leaders such as Trump whose actions and intentions have serious implications for world peace. Vanessa shares her thoughts on the nations who are committing serious humanitarian violations and the complex and often confusing processing to take action against them.

In this moving and inspiring conversation, Trudy asks Vanessa to share her passion for the work she leads to protect the most vulnerable children around the world. Vanessa shares first hand accounts of what she has witnessed, and her thoughts on the hope that children hold on to, even in the most harrowing places, such as Gaza and Haiti.

Vanessa also shares her very personal account of how she is impacted every day by what she does, and what she has seen. She reiterates WHY she will always stand up to the bullies, and why she will never underestimate the importances of the Voices of Women in Power.

Watch, Listen, be inspired and empowered.

The SHE Word - Building Back From Break Ups27 août 202601:43:34

Break Ups are one of the most unspoken topics we have sat down to discuss. Unless you stay with the very first person you meet, everyone is impacted by break ups - they are an inevitable part of life - but more often than not, they aren’t pretty, they can be painful and brutal.

We don’t talk about them - because it isn’t easy to chat about what can be ugly. Break Ups happen for a reason. At best two people decide that they are no longer heading in the same direction and amicably decide to part ways.

More often break ups involve unmet expectations, money troubles, family and friends opinions and input, or even betrayal and abuse. The fall out from family and financial dynamics, and adjusting to a new life, can be far reaching - way beyond the obvious.

Whatever the reason, Break Ups are an isolating grief. What you had hoped for is gone. The future you were building is no longer there.

But. There is a life after a break up, and everyone on this show is evidence of that. In this episode Trudy sits down with Martine Cutajar, Claudia Faniello and Maria Azzopardi to discuss the variety of ways a break up can hit and how to move on. The lessons learned and the wisdom gained.

Building back up after a break up might not be easy - there will be tears, soul searching, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, but finally hopefully healing, acceptance and moving forwards.

This is a show for everyone, whether you are in a happy and settled relationship and are just curious, searching to heal the past, or just want to feel seen.

The SHE Word Mums - The Conversation About Fertility15 juil. 202601:31:05

Most girls grow up assuming or expecting that motherhood will be a natural step once they find the right person and decide that it’s the right time- after all that’s what we’ve always been taught.

However, what happens when life is not as simple as portrayed from the eyes of a girl or a young teenager? This episode explores the theme of fertility and the journey to becoming a mum, the hardship, the heartache, and all the things in between that we aren’t prepared for and rarely spoken about.

Nerissa Massa sits down with Dr.Christine Schembri Deguara, Angele Satariano and Christina Zammit La Rosa as they open up about their fertility journeys.

The raw and emotional conversation takes us through the acceptance that fertility may not be as straightforward as we imagined. Either because of being in a same sex relationship or because falling pregnant just wasn’t happening, these women take us with them on their rollercoaster of IUI, IVF- the time commitment, the emotional, mental and financial impact it has had on them and their family and friends.

Dr. Christine explains and sheds light on the problem women (and men) are facing with infertility these days, why this is and importantly what we can do to put us in the best place when we decide we are ready to go for it. She always helps with some myth busting which brings clarity especially to couples who are going through this process often feeling vulnerable and desperate.

This show helps those who have had a less than smooth fertility journey feel seen and helps those supporting these couples understand a bit better what they are going through.

The SHE Warriors - Emma Agius - One Woman’s Fight For Justice09 juil. 202601:26:49

Content Warning: This show discusses themes of SA and Mental Health

Some women’s extraordinary stories come from the ashes of tragedy and trauma. Emma Agius recently hit the headlines with her fight in not only a personal battle, but a win that has implications for every woman in this country and across the continent.

Emma has spoken very openly about her challenges with mental health, her depression and suicidal thoughts. She has been very public about her experiences at the mental health facility in Malta, Mount Carmel, and being treated for borderline personality disorder.

But in 2022 Emma shared her account of her care worker visiting her at home, guiding her to get into bed and then getting into bed next to her, and r*ping her. As with so many instances of r*pe, Emma did not scream, she fawned and froze - a reaction that is now widely recognised as a danger response.

However, when Emma pressed changes against the man in question the magisterial inquiry had concluded that the case did not constitute rape, as the sex was deemed consensual.

Emma’s battle for justice lead her to face the darkest days of her life, dealing not only with the assault itself and the shame that so many women and men feel as victims, but also the verdict that the perpetrator had not committed a crime and that her silence was interpreted as consent. Emma’s story, and the eventual win has implications for not just Emma, but all women, men and children as to what we deem as consent.

Emma’s account is honest, heartbreaking, graphic and powerful. A must-listen that is not necessarily comfortable, but crucial.

The SHE Word Mums: Raising Children in a Digital Age25 juin 202601:43:58

Raising children has never been simple, but today's parents are navigating challenges that previous generations could have never imagined. In this thought provoking episode, we explore what it means to parent in a world where smartphones, social media, artificial intelligence, and endless digital content are becoming part of childhood earlier than ever before.

Joined by three expert guests, host Maxine, unpacks some of the biggest concerns facing families today.

Dr Tasha Attard, a mum of 2, a behavioural analyst, and the owner of the bridge by BxConsultancy,

Dr Lucianne Zammit, a mum of 2, a lecturer in Ethics education at the University of Malta, with a PHD in promoting the responsible use of technology in schools.

Dr Erika Galea, a mum of 2, a cognitive and developmental psychologist. She is a lecturer within the department of Early Childhood and Primary Education at the University of Malta. Dr Erika is the founder of the Educational Neuroscience Hub Europe and the co author of the book called 'Teaching Generation Alpha in the Classroom’.

Together and from the pov of mothers, we discuss the growing pressure parents feel when their child is one of the few without a smartphone, and the guilt and self-doubt that can arise when it seems like ‘everyone else's child’ is already connected online.

The conversation dives into the impact of social media use at a young age, the rise of YouTube Shorts and other short-form content, and what emerging research suggests about attention spans, brain development, emotional regulation, and social skills. We also explore the growing phenomenon of AI companions and digital relationships, asking what this could mean for children's development and future connections. We have incredibly difficult but extremely important discussions about declining mental health among young people and how in some unbearably tragic cases, how this has led to suicide.

We also speak about the vital role of digital literacy helping children not only stay safe online but also how they can become critical thinkers, using technology responsibly.

Most importantly, this episode ends with hope. Our guests share practical advice, reassurance, and empowering strategies for parents who are trying to find the right balance in an increasingly digital world.

Whether you're already facing requests for a smartphone or simply wondering how to prepare your child for the online world, this conversation offers valuable insights, expert guidance, and a reminder that no parent needs to navigate these challenges alone.

The SHE Word - Women and ADHD, the neurodivergent superpower10 juin 202601:30:37

ADHD remains a largely misunderstood and often misdiagnosed condition. Despite growing awareness, chronic underdiagnosis has historically hindered millions from getting support.

Recent years however, have seen a surge in adult diagnoses. ADHD diagnoses in women aged 23–49 nearly DOUBLED between 2020 and 2022, with 50% of adult women diagnosed with ADHD received their diagnosis in adulthood, often after an average 5-year delay compared to men. Women are significantly more prone to misdiagnoses due to frequently masking their struggles.

Three well-known personalities join Trudy for this show to share their own journeys and experiences - the positive, and the very real challenges. Demaris Agius is a much loved content creator and advocate for ADHD, having received her ADHD diagnosis three years ago. Makenda is a Maltese resident, French national model, events producer and brand strategist who first spoke about her ADHD journey on The SHE Word over two years ago. Dr Chiara Frendo Balzan is one of Malta’s most well known Gynaecologists who recently spoke openly at The SHE Talks about her challenges with undiagnosed ADHD through childhood and her journey to become a doctor.

These women speak openly about being misunderstood, the feeling of failure, the loneliness that can come from isolation that is associated with ADHD. But the three guests so clearly instantly bond over their common bond, finishing each other’s sentences and nodding at the mention of the traits that define the condition, encouraging each other and referencing the Spiderman Meme that so aptly describes the connection between three women from different nationalities, different backgrounds, but instantly connected.

The group also address that whilst social media has helped reduce stigma, it has also led to concerns over the self-diagnosis of common, everyday struggles. Demaris also addresses the impact of digital devices on ADHD men and women, and the significance of screen time in children and the link to childhood ADHD symptoms

This show is heartfelt, positive and informative. If you have considered that you might have ADHD, this is the show for you. If you have ever used the phrase ‘I have undiagnosed ADHD’, this is the show for you. If you have a friend or family member with ADHD, this is the show for you. If you are just curious or want to be more informed, this is the show for you!

Miriana Conte is the fantastically flamboyant and often outrageous personality behind one of Malta’s most controversial Eurovision entries, which had gone viral all over the world even before she had won the national competition.

‘Serving Kant’ caused outcry in the UK particularly due to the play on words with Britain’s rudest swear word. English Eurovision host and BBC Radio presenter Scott Mills said on his radio show just before the song contest "We can't talk about Malta's one at all. We definitely can't play a clip of it... ever, on the BBC.”

The song also caused a significant stir here at home, with Miriana receiving overwhelming hate comments attacking her on her style, her song, her figure and her family.

But behind the public persona is a shy, wise, humble and incredibly likeable young women who is an outstanding vocalist and song writer. In this edition of SHE WARRIORS, Trudy sits down with Miriana for a deep dive into her image, ambitions, challenges, her battles, and the source of her self belief.

The two women take the conversation through the journey of Serving Kant and how this epic anthem was born; the inspiration, the response, the encouragement and the outrage.

The conversation takes a deep dive into the struggles she has faced with eating disorders, the pain and desperation she experienced as well as sharing the details of her long recovery to health. She touches on her battle with PCOS, also touches on the damaging relationship that could have ended her dream - and the people around her that cheered her to make it happen against all odds.

Miriana also delves into the hate comments that attacked her personally, as well as her family, from the Maltese population, the haters and the trollers. She shares her thoughts behind her recent response to one body shaming comment from a well known fitness influencer ‘Keep my name out of your mouth because you don’t know what I have been through’; a powerful message that resonated with women across the country.

This edition of SHE WARRIORS is a edgy, funny, honest, moving and inspiring look into the life of one of Malta’s most recognisable icons.

The SHE Word - Healing From Sexual Harassment and Assault29 avr. 202601:32:59

In the first quarter of 2026 three headlines hit the news ad sparked outrage; CNN published an investigation into a website who’s content included an ‘academy’ that not only instructed men on how to dr*g and r*pe their wives and partners, but also published the footage of these crimes - the website received over 62 million views alone.

The UK government introduced new legislation to site public sexual harassment is a standalone criminal offense following research that indicates that 86% of young women (aged 18–24) in the UK have experienced sexual harassment in public spaces.

And lastly fifty-two cases of r*pe of women were reported to the police in Malta last year, statistically a case a day. But most data indicates that around 80-90% of incidents go unreported, with factors such as shame, fear of not being believed, and fear of retaliation preventing victims from reporting.

All three headlines brought long overdue attention to the crisis of SA and SH, with both men and women speaking out and calling for change but what happens when the algorithm moves on, what happens to the outcry, and most importantly what happens to the women left to face the often long lasting effects of harassment or assault.

In this hard hitting, openly honest and occasionally uncomfortable episode Trudy sits down with Beatboxer, songwriter and mindset coach Dana McKeon, empowerment coach Mei Berrit and Counselling Psychology Practitioner from Richmond Marie Noelle Lanzon to share personal experiences, delve into the impact of their experiences - physically emotionally, mentally and relationally - and talk through the topic with a focus on healing.

The conversation also looks at why perpetrators do what they do, the sliding scale of inappropriate and harmful behaviour, the culture of shame, and what we can do to change the attitude towards harmful behaviour and make a safer environment.

With 1 in 3 women experiencing SA and 85% of young women affected by SH, even if you haven’t personally been affected by the topic, someone close to you - someone you love has.

The SHE Warriors - Daniela Calleja Bitar - Malta’s ‘Most Remarkable Woman’ 26 mars 202601:06:13

Despite recently being awarded ‘The Most Remarkable Woman’ at the Mara Awards, Daniela Calleja Bitar is an extraordinarily private person, you will be hard pressed to find out anything about Daniela online. However, as the CEO of the Richmond Foundation, Daniela has dedicated her life to making change in the field of mental health and in doing so, affecting thousands of men and women.

In this down to earth SHE Warriors interview Dan sits down with Trudy to share her journey working in the area of mental health. Daniela reflects on her first interview with the Richmond Foundation 25 years ago to today where she and her team have been ‘silently vocal’ over the past two and a half decades to change the perception of mental health and the support provided.

Daniela dives into how conversations surrounding mental illness have changed from the first Xarabank discussion addressing mental health challenges that was originally intended to have guests speak about their illnesses with blacked out faces and masked voices, to the benchmark of COVID which forced society to face the topic of mental health face on and speak more freely about the issues faced.

Trudy also delves into the emergence of Social Media and asks about the long term impact that this new era of reality merging with a virtual life. Daniela outline the impact that today’s lifestyle is having on all of us, but particularly young people.

The conversation steers towards the most vulnerable groups including young men and teenagers, with guidelines for what we need to look out for in our loved ones, and ourselves, for early detection of developing mental help issues. The episode also explores the origins of Daniela strong sense of purpose, the strength of the team around her, and the key support network that she draws on to sustain her when the challenges of the role push hard.

This interview is not just the story of one woman’s dedication to changing the landscape of mental health and her drive to making lasting change across the country, it is also testament to those facing challenges and the incredible teams dedicated to improving the lives of the 1 in 3 of us who will face a mental health issue at some point in our lives.

The SHE Word Special with the MFSA - Avoiding Scams, Understanding Investments and Achieving Good Financial Health18 mars 202601:38:44

Financial independence and security is a topic that I would suggest we ALL find hard to discuss. Talking about money is often an uncomfortable conversation, let alone discussing scams, investments and our financial security. However, finances and financial health is a topic that affects every single one of us in one way or another. For women particularly, financial security is crucial; over 70% of women are in employment but over 64% of women are also mothers, presenting the ‘career break challenge’ and the financial challenges that are associated with balancing both aspects of life.

In this special edition of The SHE Word, Trudy sits down with three women from the MFSA to discuss two main areas of financial health that are particularly topical right now.

Firstly Adelina Andreea Nechita from the MFSA Enforcement team tackles the topic of scams with Trudy. Scammers and scamming has become big business and is now a multi-billion Euro global illegal industry. Scamming is a high-tech, high turnover enterprise with one goal; to convince us to part with our money - using a variety of well practiced and effective tactics. None of us are immune to scammers, and with the rise of AI, these criminal networks have become even more convincing. Adelina and the guests share guidelines and tips to be able to spot a scammer in action, how to avoid loosing out and what to do if we are trapped by a scammer.

Following up from Adelina, Lorraine Vella from the MFSA addresses financial security before guiding the conversation through the topic of investments and financial futures. Breaking down the terms Capital Markets, Bonds, Stocks and Shares, Lorraine walks through the different investment options, the risks and rewards, and they ‘what you need to know’ before launching into an investment plan. Lorraine also guides SHE-Worders through the do’s and absolute donts of investing and cutting through the jargon and help viewers gain the confidence to navigate today’s financial markets.

Bring the conversation full circle, Sarah Pulis from the MFSA leads the topic of general good financial health with tangible tips and helpful hacks that we can all take away and start applying immediately to help us on a journey to better financial freedom and independence.

Wherever you are on your financial journey, however ‘healthy’, whatever your age - this show is the episode you didn’t know you needed. Full of practical application and insight, this conversation has something for everyone.

The opinions and views expressed are solely those of the individuals and do not necessarily reflect the official policy, position, or views of the MFSA.

The SHE Word - 10 Essential Things Every Woman Should Know26 févr. 202601:42:33

Ever thought to yourself ‘I wish I had known that before’ or ‘I would love to go back and tell my younger self that’? Well, over the course of the past three and a half years on The SHE Word we have heard some very wise words from women who know; who have often learned the hard way. SHE-WORDERS - our listeners and viewers have also shared their own experiences with us, and together we have curated a goldmine of wisdom and experiences that are real game changers.

In this episode host Trudy Kerr sits down with three women who are no stranger to The SHE Word to look at ’10 Essentials That Every Woman Should Know’, and this episode’s guests are three women who don’t hold back in coming forward with what needs to be said. Dez Zahra is a relative new comer to TSW but in a recent show Dez shared her thoughts on relationships and why so often we get things very wrong, Denise Kim Gafa is back with her absolute honesty and insight into the essentials she has learned and the mistakes she has made along the way. Long term friend of TSW Sue Caruana joins too to bring her wisdom from her colourful life long experiences with her unmistakable no-mess delivery.

The result is a powerful show looking at topics such as ‘the power of saying NO’, The value of our gut instincts, why our own standards are important, getting your bra size right, financial independence, empowering each other as women, frying an egg and so much more.

The show is witty, honest and at times brutal. This episode is littered with Golden Nuggets gleaned from life lessons, both good and bad, and we can guarantee that there is something here for every woman. Whether you agree, feel seen and validated, disagree or if this discussion makes you rethink some of your preconceptions, you are going to love this honest conversation.

Of course, we would never be able to fit every essential into one podcast, so please do share your thoughts in the comments below, because we are pretty sure we will be coming back with a part two to this incredibly important topic!

TSW Young Women's Edition - Young Women, Beauty Standards and the Reality of Pageants19 févr. 202601:30:46

In this episode of the Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha Vella opens a candid conversation about beauty competitions, beauty standards, and the impact and real-life experiences behind taking part in beauty pageants.

While pageants are often associated with success, glamour and achievement, research paints a more complex picture. Industry data suggests that many pageant participants experience body image concerns during the course of competing.

Rather than debating whether pageants are good or bad, this episode centres the human experience behind them: the pressure, the discipline required, the sheer excitement, the responsibility of representing your own country on such international stages, and the dedication needed to succeed.

Joining Sasha are three women who have competed at national and international level: Julia Ann Cluett, who is the reigning Miss Universe Malta, Miss Universe Europe and Middle East, and psychology graduate and assistant, Ella Gatt Baldacchino, who is Miss Universe Malta 2023, a compliance analyst, and a vocal advocate for body positivity, who speaks openly about living with body dysmorphia and how it has intersected with pageantry, and Shailey Micallef, model and Miss Grand International Malta, with a background in fashion, pageantry and a Master’s in Accountancy.

An honest, grounded conversation that looks beyond titles and crowns to explore self-worth, body image and what it really means to be competing at these levels.

Here at The SHE Word we have discussed SO MANY topics which impact mums - especially in the early years of motherhood and this topic is another issue which so many mums face - the change in relationship with your partner after becoming parents.

In this episode the four mums at the table sit down to discuss the changes that take place after bringing a baby home (and baby 2 and baby 3!) and the challenges that they were not (or least) expecting.

The SHE Word - The 'Love Blueprint' and Redefining Love in our Lives for Long-Term Happiness08 janv. 202601:28:17

We ALL love to love and be loved, don’t you agree? And for that reason, this episode is an absolute MUST listen for everyone.

From our earliest age love plays a huge role in our lives. We are actually “programmed” to love due to a combination of biological factors involving specific brain chemicals, like dopamine and oxytocin, that drive us to form bonds, but our brains are wired for social connection and attachment. But what we learn about love in our earliest years, in our childhood, very much shapes the way love looks in our lives and this can differ wildly for each person, even siblings growing up in the same home. This is our love Blueprint; the way we view, express and understand what love is, and what it means.

As we grow older and experience variations of love beyond our Blueprint we are presented with choices. We can either reassess and revaluate our love framework and understanding and evolve and learn, or we apply our parameters to our relationships - both positively and negatively.

In this show Trudy sits down with three women to examine the Blueprints they developed from a young age, looking at the influences that formed their opinions, and the lessons that life taught them to revaluate their understanding and experiences of Love.

Danae Mercer Ricci is an influencer with an online community of over 2.5 million followers, using her platform to speak out about body positivity, understanding social media and its impact, and protecting young girls and the challenges they face today. Danae’s also holds a powerful story of overcoming an early life with her teenage mum, a succession of men and often abusive father figures and shares how these experiences shaped the relationships she formed as an adult.

Demaris Agius, also known as Life of a Mum on Instagram, Demaris is an ADHD advocate, a long-term wife and mother, and a content creator. Demaris shares her experiences of her family influences and how meeting and marrying her husband when they were in their very early twenties has presented its own challenges, and opportunities. Demaris talks about how both her and her husband have changed over the course of their relationship, growing into new versions of themselves, as partners and parents. And the work that it has take to maintain, build and strengthen their love over nearly two decades.

Maxine Attard is part of The SHE Word family, Mum of two, currently working her way through postpartum and her new life with two young children. Maxine brings her own story to the discussion, growing up with a single parent, also hit hard when her beloved Mum passes away from cancer when Maxine was in her late twenties. Maxine shares how the absence of a father shaped her understanding of trust and the role a husband, partner and father can play.

This show is full of Golden Nuggets of experiences, lessons learned, changed perceptions, honest opinions and admissions. There is something for everyone in this edition of The SHE Word, no matter where you are on your Love and Life Journey.

TSW Young Women's Edition S4/09 - Young Women of Malta (MT)17 déc. 202501:34:05

In the first ever Maltese episode of The SHE Word: Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha Vella welcomes listeners to a culturally rich conversation exploring what it truly means to be a Maltese woman today.

For the first time, this episode is conducted entirely in Maltese, opening space for an honest discussion around identity, language, and belonging. Sasha addresses her own relationship with the Maltese language and the public commentary surrounding it, using this episode to reclaim language as a core part of Maltese female identity.

Joined by Josline Camilleri, Denise Kim Gafa, and Jais Zammit, all active voices within the social media space, the panel dives into conversations many of us recognise but don’t always have out loud. From the realities of code switching, dialects, and whether the Maltese language is being lost, to how language shapes personality and self expression.

The episode also unpacks the complexities of Maltese identity, pride and frustration, stereotypes, and the tension of living on a small island that can both nurture and restrict. The guests reflect on everyday Maltese habits and whether Malta allows space to truly be yourself.

At the heart of the discussion are the lived experiences of Maltese women. From judgement and support between women, social media scrutiny, driving culture, and the challenges that come with growing up female in Malta. The conversation also explores the desire many young women feel to leave the island, why some return, and how living abroad can shape perspective.

An open, relatable, and much needed conversation that celebrates Maltese culture and the voices of young Maltese women.

Please note - this episode is in Maltese

The SHE Word, Women and Men: A Man’s Perspective on the Issue of Violence10 déc. 202501:36:04

The SHE Word’s founder and host Trudy Kerr invites three of Malta’s leading men to sit down to discuss one of today’s toughest topics and everything that surrounds it; Male Violence and Aggression, and the Impact on Women.

This raw episode is probably the most honest conversation about this massive issue shared from a man’s perspective and understanding. This show isn’t about ‘bashing’ or accusing men. On the contrary, this episode sets out to break the silence on an issue that simply can’t be fully understood and solved without men as a crucial part of the conversation.

With one in three women facing violence and assault, Trudy lays out the sober truths that women face everyday in terms of safety, SA, DV, aggression and harassment; the constant negotiations women and girls make to navigate the opposite gender both online and offline.

Guests Podcaster Jon Mallia, Producer and Presenter Frank Zammit and Editor in Chief Herman Grech join Trudy at the table to dive into the multilayered and complex subject, and unravel not only what motivates the minority of men who commit violence, assault and abuse, but why most men find it hard to call out this behaviour. Frank stuns the table as he shares the brutal honesty that men find it easier to support a campaign such as Animal Cruelty than speak out against SA or DV. Jon shares his fears for his daughter and her safety, and Herman unravels the role social media plays in fuelling rage against one another.

The guests delve into what makes men men, the shifting climate, the sliding scale of implication, healthy masculinity and rise of toxic men, everyday objectification, the role of heroes and the heartbreaking and tragic dynamic of young men today.

Whilst this show isn’t an easy listen, it is an absolute game changer in opening the conversation to include both men and women, with the goal to start to understand how we can tackle the issue of identity, value, violence, abuse and aggression from the very roots.

This is a show for women AND men, to feel seen, understood, and to be able to understand this global endemic issue from the other side of gender fence, from a different point of view.

She shares how her mum ran from bad relationships to worse relationships, taking her four children with her. The SHE Word Mums S1/Ep7 - The DAD'S Edition26 nov. 202501:33:32

This episode of the She Word is a She Word Mum’s show and a very special one at that.

In this episode, host Nerissa Massa was brave enough to have three Dad guests around the table - the first ever in the history of the She Word. She sits down to get the low down on what Dads experience and go through.

So many times it is only mothers who talk about their experience of parenthood and we rarely hear the Dad's side of the story.

Nerissa sits down with Sean Gravina, Kevin Naudi and JD Patrick to discuss everything Dad related- from finding out their partner was pregnant, to how present they are in their kid’s lives today.

These Dads bare all about the highs, the lows and the unexpected moments of parenthood, how they changed when they became dads and how they split household and child minding chores with their other half.

This show is hilarious, chaotic and beautifully honest and has highlighted some very interesting points in amongst the laughter.

Many thanks to Browns, Hyatt Regency, Pro Health, Monsoon, Slinky and Co, Pemix, Ayur Veda and iCentre.

The SHE Word - After Hours with Special Guest Gianni Zammit20 nov. 202501:33:13

Welcome to the third edition of The SHE Word Afterhours, a less ‘censored’ edition of the show, where Trudy sits down with three guests who aren’t afraid to share their thoughts on current topics and challenges, and for whom we take no responsibility...

In this mostly hilarious, sometimes serious edition, Host Trudy is joined by regulars Sue Caruana and Tez Sabina, and special guest Gianni Zammit.

The conversation bounces around the topics of Christmas Decorations, Opening Crisps from the wrong end, summer and winter bed sheets, and much more with brilliantly funny exchanges and innuendo. The four contemplate their parallel lives and show intros and go on to get distracted by whether or not it is possible that Gianni’s daughter is just to extraordinary to be his.

The show also takes a deeper and more serious look at the resilience of the children we are raising, the impact of the ‘participation medal culture’ and the result of over-protective parenting, whilst Gianni presents his outstanding ‘pendulum theory’.

The episode goes on to take a deeper dive into AI and our dependence on technology, the impact it is having on our children, and the long term on us as adults, whilst asking the question ‘can you remember your childhood phone number?’

And the show returns to the light-hearted banter as the table bonds over belly lights about the garbage, Tez’s husband’s squeaky door, Gianni’s pet hate for WhatsApp groups, Trudy’s grinch attitude, and Sue’s insistence that Tez should ‘flush the fegking toilet’

Loose yourself and unwind in a brilliantly comically and surprisingly deep episode of The SHE Word Afterhours, perfect for your daily commute, background entertainment to your weekly chores, company whilst cooking, or outright relaxing entertainment, BUT DO NOT MISS this podcast GOLD.

The SHE Word - Women and keeping your sex life spicy (especially in long term relationships)12 nov. 202501:32:57

Let’s be real for a second, keeping the sex spicy in a long term relationship is not a regular dinner time conversation, although maybe it should be. Within marriage and long term relationships, difficulties with sex, different interest levels, or a lack of physical intimacy are cited as common reasons for divorce, separation and break up, with satisfaction often declining over time.

But sex in a long term relationship is important isn’t it? Well. Maybe it isn’t for everyone, and maybe it shouldn’t be. A recent study found that on average, long-term couples have sex about once a week (54 times per year). However, statistics vary widely; one study found 31% of couples have sex a few times per week, while 8% have it once a month, and 33% either have sex rarely or not at all. Let me say that again, a third of couples in long term relationships rarely have sex, or not at all.

In this brilliantly entertaining and informative episode, we not only look at the magic of how to keep your sex life satisfying in all seasons of your relationship, but we look at the importance of sex in a relationship that is likely to change over years, and how to evaluate the importance of sex and intimacy.

Trudy guides her guests through this enlightening and empowering conversation to touch on the challenge of falling in love over and over again with the same person, renegotiating long term relationships, Breaks vs Accelerators and the very real challenges that can interrupt the physical side of a relationship.

Joining Trudy are three regular sex-perts and relationship counsellors; Anna Catania is a highly respected and recommended qualified counsellor specialised in the area of sex and relationships and offers counselling and psychotherapy to individuals and couples who are having difficulties with sexuality, relationships and intimacy. Nicola Falzon is back on The SHE Word, having brought her energy and a wealth of knowledge to our previous show’s on the topic of sex - Nicola is a Gestalt Psychotherapist & Mental and Sexual Health Advocate Marija Attard is a psychotherapist who provides psychosexual therapy, a master in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice.

This episode normalises talking about sex, eliminate any shame and provide all the tools you need to navigate satisfying intimacy in a long term relationship and acknowledges the very real challenges faced by every single couple.

TSW Young Women's Edition - Young Women and Only Fans06 nov. 202501:26:59

OnlyFans, is it empowerment, exploitation, or something in between?

In this episode of The SHE Word: Young Women’s Edition, Sasha sits down for an honest, unfiltered conversation about one of the most talked-about, and misunderstood, platforms in the world.

Behind the controversy are real women, with real boundaries, navigating empowerment, vulnerability, and the business of being visible online.

Joining the discussion are Emily Jones, a British-Maltese content creator who uses her platform to promote body positivity and self-expression; Miss Rager (Baked Sloths), a creative working in social media and the cannabis industry; and Undine LaVerve, Malta’s pioneering burlesque performer and founder of The Burlesque Academy Malta.

Together, they explore what it means to step into your power while protecting your peace: from setting boundaries and dealing with judgment, to navigating family reactions, content leaks, and the blurred lines between confidence and exploitation.

They also share what an average workday really looks like behind the scenes, and how authenticity and self-respect shape every decision they make.

This episode digs into the questions many people are afraid to ask: Can OnlyFans truly be empowering? What does agency look like in an industry built on visibility? And how do women define and defend their boundaries in a world that constantly tests them?

The SHE Word Special - Women and Workplace Mental Heath30 oct. 202501:28:38

The average person spends 90,000 hours in the workplace, around a third of our lives, it is little surprise then that the workplace represents a significant source of mental health related issues. Of the 7,000 calls a year that the Richmond Foundation receives, the majority are relational issues - that is issues connected with relationships.

Other specific issues include work overload and dealing with difficult clients, which are more prevalent among women. Over 3.5 million EU workers aged 15-64 reported mental health issues in 2024, contributing to significant economic costs through lost productivity and absenteeism.

Over the past few years, several issues have gathered significance as part of the workplace well being conversation; Burnout, Boundaries, Work Ethic, Well Being and the Work Life Balance to name just a few.

In this episode Trudy sits down with three significant business leaders to find out how they deal with mental health in the workplace, and to ask what we as employees can do.

Sarah Zammit Cutajar is the CEO of P. Cutajar & Co Ltd who have recently partnered with the Richmond Foundation to support mental health initiatives in Malta and to implement their own well-being measures.

Christabelle Borg, now Christabelle Camilleri is the CEO of the industrial company V&C, an investor in Malta’s Shark Tank and then went on to launch passion project brands Health and Co and more recently co-founder of luxury brand 6FIFTYTWO.

Daniela Calleja Bitar is the CEO of the Richmond Foundation and has worked with Richmond for over 25 years. The Richmond foundation was founded to support people experiencing mental health problems and those around them, throughout various aspects of life.

In this powerful episode the four women discuss how to identify a colleague or employee who is struggling, toxicity in the workplace, the work life balance, generational differences, relationships at work, working environments for women and how best to support women at work.

The guests also take a deep dive into Burnout, what it really is and how to spot it in yourself as well as those around you, drawing on Christabelle’s own personal experience.

This show hits topics that affect almost every single one of us at some point. Watch the show to be seen and to see the others around you.

This show is brought to you in association with P Cutajar and The Richmond Foundation

SHE WARRIORS Trudy Kerr with Monika Schembri - A story of positivity in the face of heartbreak and adversity. 23 oct. 202501:20:03

Let’s face it. No-one expects a Breast Cancer Diagnosis. If we are really honest, I should imagine that most of us expect breast cancer to happen to someone else.

But with Breast cancer affecting approximately 1 in 10 women worldwide, and being the most common cancer in women and the second most common cancer overall, it is very likely that if you are not directly affected by breast cancer, someone close to you will be.

But a breast cancer diagnosis is not the end, and in this episode of SHE WARRIORS Trudy sits down with Monica Schembri who has not already faced breast cancer and overcome it, but is dealing with a second diagnosis. But as Monica has so often demonstrated, grace and a positive attitude makes a life changing difference in the face of adversity, not only to herself but to those around her.

In this brutally honest interview, Lithuanian born Monika openly talks about her breast cancer journey, from first noticing a lump on her chest, to the moment of hearing the diagnosis. She talks through her treatment, the all clear verdict, the news of her miracle pregnancy, the marriage that didn’t survive and the cancer diagnosis second time round. But rather than a story of sadness and despair, Monika’s is full of hope. Trudy digs deeper to find the source of Monika’s trademark attitude, and in doing so, finds profoundly wise words for anyone facing a challenge, or heartbreaking news.

Watch this edition of SHE WARRIORS to be inspired by an ordinary woman with an extraordinary story. The good, the bad and the hopeful.

The SHE Word S6/EP15 - International Women, The Maltese - English Edition16 oct. 202501:37:55

This brilliantly entertaining show is for the women who have lived across more than one country, who have more than one identity. Women who have family stretched across continents, friends in far off places, who have split their lives across different cultures. This show is for those who have more than one home, more than one love, more than one language.

In this brilliantly lively edition of The SHE Word the four women sitting at the table have one thing in common; they are all both Maltese AND British citizens. Content Creator and Marketing Specialist Katherine Neave is British born with a Maltese Nannu and moved to Malta during COVID to live, work, and experience the islands before returning to the UK after the pandemic. Kate strongly identifies with her Maltese heritage, whilst also deeply connected to England.

Chelsea Bagnall-Falzon is no stranger to the Maltese Islands. Having grown up in the UK, sporting a strong Hertfordshire accent, Chelsea moved to Malta in her early twenties with her Maltese Mum to start a (small) island life and return to her Mediterranean roots.

Emily Jones is a regular of The SHE Word, but what many might not know is that Emily is truly dual nationality, with an English Mum and Maltese Dad. Emily grew up in Malta, with her full high school and university education in Malta, and despite her very British accent Emily is fluent in Maltese.

Trudy is the only naturalised Maltese, the British born TSW host moved to Malta 19 years ago, and chose to make Malta her home, only achieving naturalised Maltese citizenship in 2024. What she lacks in her mastering of the Maltese language, she more than makes up for with her love of the Maltese islands and passion for the history of this remarkable archipelago.

The guests explore the hot topic of language, (including swearing!) - both Maltese and English. The ladies discuss dating, relationships, body count and English vs Maltese men. The four dive into identity, friendships, religion, humour, glaring cultural differences, alongside the commonalities, they cover prejudice and assumptions as well as respect and appreciation for the countries they call home.

The relationship between Malta and England dates back to 1800 and like all love stories, there have been good times and tougher times in this trans continental bond. With 420,000 Maltese living across the globe, and a significant community of Maltese in the UK, along with a healthy presence of British in Malta, it is little wonder that this cultural romance has given birth to many who have both Maltese and British nationality, dual identity, women and men who live across two cultures.

So many of us identify with more than one culture. Across the ages millions moved across the globe for a variety of reasons and motivations, be it love, lifestyle, work, war, finances, family and more now than ever before. Sitting across more than one culture brings a rich diversity and colourful life, but it also brings its own challenges.

It is undoubtably exciting to have the opportunity to call more than one country home, but it definitely isn’t plain sailing. Tune in to hear what the guests have to say about the British and Maltese alike and how their double identity has shaped them as women.

The SHE Word S6/EP14 - Women, Girls and The Body Shaming Culture09 oct. 202501:38:22

In Danae Mercer Ricci’s 2024 talk At The SHE Word Event she dropped an astounding statistic - Danae stated that the diet business is worth 90 Billion Dollar; a business that thrives on us feeling we need to be something else, that we are not enough. The Body Shaming Culture is affecting girls as young as 6 years old who are turning to dieting as a result of being actively targeted by the industry.

25–50% of teenagers reporting weight-based discrimination with another report stating that up to 67% students experience body shaming. One study reports that at age thirteen, 53% of girls are “unhappy with their bodies.” This grows to 78% by the time girls reach seventeen. The Body Shaming Culture has reached epidemic levels and we simply aren’t talking about this enough.

In this episode of The SHE Word, Trudy sits down with three women who have not only experienced body shaming, but have taken steps to actively combat this culture. Corrine Muscat is well known for her radio and voice over artist voice, but in the past few years trained and qualified as a personal trainer specifically working with women and men struggling to get started, just as she did in the past. Leeanne Bartolo is the name and face behind the Gym, Sports and Fitness brand Warehouse, but despite being WFF Bikini World Champion has struggled with her own appearance and the way that she has felt about herself. Caroline Abela is a full time mum at full time work and shares her own battles with body image and being body shamed.

The women powerfully share their own journeys, from childhood body shaming, teenager bullying, online trolling and the struggles to deal with the Filtered Untruth we are challenged by every day. The conversation is full of heart breaking stories, personal accounts, honest and brave accounts and words of hope and encouragement.

Feel seen in this show by women who are having a conversation that women really rarely have, that we really should have, not just for ourselves, but for the millions of young women and girls that are also affected by the body shaming culture.

The SHE Word Mums S1/Ep6 - Mums and Parenting in the Public Eye02 oct. 202501:11:20

The SHE Word Mums S1/EP6 - Mums and Parenting in the Public Eye

The She Word Mums is back with a bang after some time off in September. But we are back bigger than ever as we discuss Mums in the public eye. How do they do it? Do they feel more pressure? Or is it really just a walk in the park where they get a bunch of freebies and special treatment?

In this episode, Nerissa Massa is joined by 3 fantastic guests- Hon. Minister Miriam Dalli, Hon. Rebekah Borg and actress and TV presenter Lara Azzopardi.

All three women were in the public eye before they had kids and Hon Dalli and Lara have graced our TV screens since their youth so they know a thing or two about being in the spotlight.

In this show we have an honest, open discussion about the rollercoaster ride that is motherhood- but doing this in public. We discuss the common misconceptions people have of mums in the public eye and what these mums actually go through.

We discuss the juggle of work, and public commitments and motherhood, having no maternity leave in the Maltese and European Parliament and how important - no matter your role- to accept help when it is available.

These women open up about judgement and pressures they feel and about funny experiences they have gone through as they navigate motherhood in the public eye. An eye opener episode which every mum - whether in the public eye or not, can relate to.

The SHE Word S6/13- After Hours with Special Guest Max Vassallo25 sept. 202501:34:59

Yes, you read it right. In this Afterhours Special of The SHE Word, Trudy, Tez and Sue sit down with Max Vassalo of Bajd U Beiken for possibly the most unexpected episode of The SHE Word.

Max and the hosts of The SHE Word have been known to disagree on topics and content of each other’s shows, and to be fair when they do publicly comment they’ve often hit the headlines. However, as is so often the case, there is much more to the individuals involved than is portrayed in the media.

Host Trudy invites Max as a special guest to this adult version of the show to add his thoughts on a wide range of topics. This episode demonstrates that it is not just possible to discuss, debate and still disagree, but to also like and respect someone you don’t always see eye to eye with.

But this show isn’t a demonstration of differences. In this episode the four at the table find that there is a great deal of common ground. Trudy, Max, Sue and Tez dive into finding out what the opposite sex thinks about key topics such as sex, red flags, women’s and men’s roles in the home, parenting, love languages, same sex and opposite sex friendships, and much more.

This show is not only brilliantly funny and unexpectedly honest; this special episode also shows an emotional side of Max that few will be familiar with. Laugh along with the guests as they drop innuendos and crack jokes, but also delve into surprising sensitive topics with often very unexpected outcomes.

As the guest list and the name suggests, the conversation is littered with ADULT references and language - so please be warned!

TSW Young Women's Edition S4/06 - Young Women in Media18 sept. 202501:31:00

What’s it really like to be a young woman working in media today? It’s a world that can be unpredictable, funny, and sometimes downright chaotic, full of bloopers, slip-ups, and unexpected encounters that make for the best stories.

But it also comes with very real challenges: balancing public and private life, handling criticism, and finding your own voice in an industry that isn’t always built to listen.

In this episode of The SHE Word’s Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha, a former journalist who continues to work in media, is joined by three incredible guests: Naomi Scicluna, Head of Creative at FreeHour Malta and content creator; Angelica Farrugia, journalist and newscaster at TVM News; and Martha Attard, radio host and broadcasting producer at Vibe FM.

Together, the four women swap hilarious on-air mishaps and behind-the-scenes stories, while also reflecting on what it means to represent young women in spaces that remain largely male-dominated.

The conversation flows between laughter and honesty, from the pressure to always “look the part,” to the nerves of going live for the first time, to the joy of creating work that genuinely connects with people.

It’s about boundaries, burnout, ambition, and above all, the importance of finding joy in the middle of it all.

Lively, hilarious, and empowering, this episode captures what it really takes for young women in media to not just survive, but thrive.

Every woman has a story, but some are more ambitious and adventurous than others.

The SHE Word S6/12 - Women Overcoming Trauma04 sept. 202501:48:13

This outstandingly powerful episode of The SHE Word touches on a topic that affects us all but is very rarely openly spoken about; Trauma. Trauma is impossible to avoid, and what one person might find deeply traumatic, another might breeze through. Likewise, an experience that might be seemingly small and insignificant to some might leave deep wounds for another. Simply put, none of us walk the same path and navigate the same trauma. Even children growing up in the same home do not experience the same childhood - and this applies throughout life.

In this show Trudy is joined by TSW regular Sue Caruana, political figure and counselor Rachel Williams, and author and business woman Pamela Michaux for a raw, honest and moving time of sharing and discussion. Each of the women openly and powerfully share their trauma experiences and describe how this shaped their lives and affected their decisions.

The women bond over common threads and repeated behaviour; the gas lighting reactions; the 'walking into the room responses'. Watch and be seen as the women (sometimes tearfully) speak about the sadness, loneliness, abuse and isolation that has affected them. Listen and identify as Trudy guides the guests navigate what trauma is and the validity of their own experiences; from surviving childhood beatings, to abandonment and complete lack of love, from abusive relationships and marriages to lack of self worth and long lasting anger.

In this show Trudy also delves into the positive lasting legacies that make Sue, Rachel and Pamela the powerful women they are today. The episode looks at the fire that drives them, the freedom that comes with forgiveness and the power that overcoming trauma can bring.

TSW Young Women's Edition S4/05 - Young Women - Empowering Your Voice28 août 202501:34:40

What does it mean to speak up, be heard, and sustain your voice in a world that often tries to silence young women?

In this episode of The She Word, Sasha sits down with three incredible young activists who have turned their voices into powerful tools for change. Journalist and Environment Editor at the European Correspondent, Belle de Jong, has been at the forefront of Malta’s My Voice, My Choice abortion rights campaign while championing social and environmental justice on issues from reproductive rights to the climate crisis.

Rachelle Bezzina is a writer, multidisciplinary artist, and co-founder of Young Progressive Beings, a youth-led movement for reproductive justice, who uses art and language as acts of resistance, care, and collective empowerment.

Joining them is Francesca Zammit, a multidisciplinary artist working across dance, film, poetry, performance, and community interventions, whose practice bridges art and activism to inspire social change and who also co-founded Young Progressive Beings. Together, they explore what drives young women to speak up, how activism intersects with journalism and art, and the unique challenges of fighting for reproductive rights in Malta.

They share stories of courage, moments of burnout, and the importance of setting boundaries while continuing to use their voices as a catalyst for change. From debating a woman’s right to her own body, to the role of protest as empowerment, to navigating activism in the digital age, this conversation is both deeply personal and profoundly political.

The SHE Word Mums S1/EP5 - Mums, Labour and Birth07 août 202501:14:30

In this episode of the She Word Mums, we are diving into all things surrounding labour and birth and what really goes on in those delivery suites.

Host Nerissa Massa is joined by Maxine Attard for this week’s episode and they sit down with Catriona Grech, a midwife and mum of 2 and Jenny Orlando Spalling- mum of three.

They reminisce about their own birth experience and talk about how no one child is birthed the same, but how every child brings a sense of “newness” both a brand new human but also as a rebirth of the mother. They also agree how empowering going though labour is and how you discover inner strength.

Tears are shed, and laughter is shared amongst these four women who bond over an experience only a female can ever encounter.

Watch this episode if you’re preparing to give birth, supporting someone who is, been through it yourself or are just curious to know more about yourself the run up and build up of bringing a baby into the world.
