How to Leverage being a Podcast Guest for Business Growth with Jessica Rhodes20 Dec 202400:36:47

When your message is seen and heard by the right people, it will grow your business

Jessica Rhodes is the Founder of Interview Connections, a pioneering podcast guest booking agency, author, and podcaster. She wanted to build a life she wanted and she left a successful career in the non-profit to become a stay-at-home mom. Jessica has built Interview Connections into a nearly seven-figure business and has now booked over 30,000 podcast interviews for more than 800 clients.

Podcast guesting is a human-to-human relationship-building strategy, where entrepreneurs show up authentically and with presence, making a genuine connection with podcast hosts. Podcast guesting for online entrepreneurs is very important, especially for women entrepreneurs who want to expand their networks, build thought leadership, and attract ideal clients. She discusses how podcast guesting can help businesses gain visibility, make connections, and drive sales.Ā

Jessica initially worked with podcast hosts to book guests but later shifted to focusing on helping entrepreneurs become successful podcast guests due to demand. She stresses the importance of being mindful and present during podcast interviews, having good preparation, and taking action rather than waiting for everything to be perfect. You will fall in love with your voice with time!Ā

Women need to stop over-preparing and start taking action in sharing their message. It is important to see how men take immediate action while women often wait until they feel fully qualified. It is time to take action, be visible, and embrace the messiness of the journey!

Snow Notes:

Breaking Barriers and Redefining Womanhood: Merging Fashion and Impact with Mona Patel19 Oct 202400:57:22

You don't have to be a certain brand of woman in order to deliver your message.

Mona is the founder of Couture for Cause, a nonprofit organization using fashion to fundraise and raise awareness for girls’ education and empowerment worldwide. She shares her journey from childhood in India to the recent Met Gala, where she turned heads in a stunning Iris van Herpen dress. With a blend of humor and vulnerability, she reflects on her struggles with identity, a tomboy image, and searching for her authentic self.

Mona has a strong entrepreneurial mind and a love for freedom mixed with a love for fashion She talks specifically of creativity and aesthetics, which she refers to as "aesthetic intelligenceā€ which she used at Met Gala to showcase her nonprofit work. Multiple businesses she built taught her lessons about flexibility, learning skills, and the power of real estate.

Mona knows the power of connection and community along with the extensive education she got helped her to get out of the social pressures women face, especially in India, thanks to her parents’ open-mindedness which was the key to her empowerment. She had a desire to turn a "guilty pleasure" of fashion into something meaningful. Through her organization, she combines her passion for couture with efforts to support grassroots initiatives in India, particularly for young women and girls affected by sex trafficking and other challenges. Mona’s life was marked with resilience, seeking freedom, and breaking the norms in business and life but her mom taught her to balance between ambition and humility and that lesson has been a significant part of her growth.Ā

Show notes:
šŸ‘— Mona made a splash at the Met Gala in a beautiful Iris van Herpen dress. 02:33
šŸ‘§šŸ½ Mona's story as a child in India: her father's influence and help were significant. 08:12
šŸ‘  Only as an adult did she realize she didn't have to pretend to be a tomboy to be an empowered woman. 13:47
šŸ° Her parents have been her fortress: they were very open-minded. 17:02
šŸ¦… In the US, she truly felt freedom: she wanted to be known for who she was. 21:32
šŸ‘©šŸ½ā€šŸ’¼ Mona's journey started with getting a broker's license in Florida in 2004. 24:36
šŸŽÆ She had an entrepreneurial mindset: "You control your destiny by not working for someone." 25:44
šŸ† The first step to having a successful mindset is being the highest version of yourself. 27:55
šŸ”„ Her mother's lesson: "Don't let the things that you own—own you." 34:05
šŸ˜ Mona and her husband have highly complementary skill sets: their partnership led them from one business to another. 38:51
šŸ˜‡ Couture for a Cause: that's a form of art. 43:09
šŸ€ She wanted to start initiatives that help women leave a legacy or impact. 46:27
🤩 During Covid, Mona had a reflective moment: "How can I serve the world?" 49:35
🌻 Perfectionism and high standards used to make her procrastinate, but now she has grown beyond that. 55:30

From Hustle to Flow: Authentic Business Strategies through Human Design with Mel McSherry11 Oct 202400:43:14

When you start living in alignment with your design, everything feels lighter—opportunities come more naturally, and there's no longer a need to push or force things.

Mel McSherry is a CEO, author, podcaster, business and life coach who helps overwhelmed entrepreneurs align their lives and businesses by integrating human design with traditional business development. Mel predominantly works with women business owners who are exhausted and overwhelmed by combining spiritual gifts, as well as their 14+ years of business-building experience.

Women entrepreneurs are disadvantaged when trying to mold themselves into systems designed for men. Mel shares how Human Design provides a way to design businesses that align with women’s natural strengths and energy patterns. Human Design can lead to more authentic business strategies and healthier work-life balance which are needed for women to thrive. Even though there are five overarching types, as Mel explains, nothing is a cookie-cutter solution because Human Design reflects deeper, unchanging truths and explains why certain behaviors don’t work for everyone.

Mel shares that from 2027 we will be witnessing a huge change in the energetic shift from hierarchical systems to more fluid ones, based on communities. Mel advocates for authenticity and finding your own purpose while leveraging Human Design as a compass for success.

Success isn't just about what you achieve—it’s about how authentically you’re living while you do it.

Show Notes:

Delegate to Elevate: Entrepreneurial Finance and the Path to a Million-Dollar Company with Pam Jordan04 Oct 202400:40:35

"It's not about what you make, it's about what you keep. You can be a $2 million company and broke, or a $650,000 company and rolling in the money."

Pam, the CEO of Pivot Business Group, is a no-nonsense financial expert and speaker who specializes in analyzing and streamlining the back end of fast-growing companies, while efficiently creating more profit and strategic growth. Pam decided to create Pivot Business Group to ensure that no small business owner would face bankruptcy simply because they didn’t understand their numbers.

Pam shares her valuable experience and insights, noting that many entrepreneurs, especially women, undercharge for their services, undervalue their worth, and fail to set prices correctly. They also often neglect to pay themselves properly, have the wrong legal and tax structure for their company, and don’t track their numbers correctly.

For women, it is crucial to understand these financial aspects and stop undervaluing themselves. We aren’t always educated about the financial tools and strategies available, but there are professionals who can help avoid these pitfalls. Investing in their expertise from day one is worth the cost and saves you from future pain and financial mess.

Understand what your costs are, track your money in real time, and make sure you're setting money aside for yourself, delegate and enjoy your journey to success.

Notes:

šŸ‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Elizabeth took a leap into entrepreneurship in 2012 and bought an all-women's gym. 8:13

šŸ’« Elizabeth was known as a turnaround expert in the corporate world and she was always inclined to operations, but she sees that women are often 'groomed out' of operational roles. 11:20

šŸ’µ By buying a business, you have an automatic revenue stream, and a paycheck which is rarely the case with startups.15:30

33. Leadership is Feminine, with Kris Plachy09 Apr 202100:47:11

🌺 When a woman thrives, everything and everyone around her thrive too. 2:12

šŸ˜‡ We're in the process of the entire system crumbling, and that's good news! 4:52

šŸ‘©ā€šŸ’¼ Leadership is feminine because it comes through empathy and invention. 10:30

šŸŽÆ Don't play their rules, just go to a different place where leadership is a connection and a relationship. 14:39

šŸ‘” Posturing and positioning incorporate vs humanizing. 16:10

šŸ‘„ 'We will take care of our workers' shows also a high rate of disengagement among workers.Ā  19:39

šŸ± A cool office and organic snack can't substitute for good leadership and relationships. 21:18

šŸ™†ā€ā™€ļø Women usually struggle to give themselves permission to nurture themselves and their goals and dreams without feeling guilt 23:47

šŸ‘  Do you ask your husband for permission or you will have an opinion and claim the space that you own in the world? 25:19

Aligning Purpose with Passion: Building a Legacy in Business and Life with Michelle Charpentier27 Sep 202400:36:31

"As women, we're always making excuses for why we can't do things for ourselves. But if you don't make the time, it won't ever happen."

Michelle Charpentier brings over 15 years of diverse experience, from startups to luxury brands. She founded Charp Consulting with a mission to empower all brands to reach their full potential. She is a leadership coach at Braven, a board member of the Columbia College Chicago National Alumni Board, where she contributes to mentorship and dynamic programming. Her focus is on supporting nonprofits, women-owned businesses, and fellow mom-preneurs through innovative consulting services and community-building initiatives. She's also a mom of three and an author.

Michelle’s journey to entrepreneurship started after spending nine years in the corporate world. Firstly in the fashion industry before leaping into entrepreneurship during the pandemic. Her love for mentoring and community building led her to found Charp Consulting.

Her upcoming book is a labor of love and will guide people through self-discovery, helping them unlock their potential at every stage of life. Michelle believes that by doing inner work, understanding your personal beliefs, and aligning them with your career, you can find your true calling, whether you're an entrepreneur or working for someone else.

The real fulfillment in your career doesn’t come from finding a job but from finding one that resonates with who you are. If you're unhappy, it’s not always about the company; it’s about being misaligned with your purpose.

From The Farm to the Best Planner Ever with Jennifer Dawn19 Feb 202100:40:44

šŸ‘  Welcome, Jennifer. 1:55

šŸ‘©ā€šŸ‘“šŸ¦³ Growing up and spending summers with her grandparents around their chiropractic offices tickled her entrepreneurship ideas out.Ā  3:19

What It Means To Reinvent Yourself, With Lesley Jane Seymour04 Dec 202000:53:59

šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø Lesley was a speaker at the She Leads NYC conference and her story was an absolute hit! 1:19
⭐ On Covey Club’s ā€˜Positive Morning’ call, Lesley realized that she built another family for women in the second half of their lives. 2:13
šŸ“° When she was a 10-year old, Lesley turned to magazines to remedy the isolation she experienced due to parent’s divorce. 5:05
šŸ’œ Covey Club was created after More Magazine folded and loyal readers approached Lesley’s social media channels, asking her to create something new for them. 7:39
šŸ§šā€ā™€ļø Everybody has a thread and it's not accidental, even if you get knocked off course, you will come back to the thread somehow. 11:35
šŸ™Œ The most important thing is to spend time finding the thing that highly motivates you.14:25
😲 The fashion industry told her ā€˜You're never going to make it here. You're too nice.’ 16:31
šŸ‘„ Getting over a ā€˜Good girl’ complex. 19:55
šŸ’µ In your own business, you have to deal with everything, especially the money and charging for your services. 21:51
šŸ˜‡ Lesley is very open person who likes to welcome people around her as part of her family. 23:58
šŸ’ƒ When you are an entrepreneur you get to pick and choose your team and clients, and it is giving you such a relief. 26:36
šŸ¤øā€ā™€ļø Reinvention is behind almost everything Covey Club does. 27:38
šŸŽ™ļø Lesley is the host of the ā€˜Reinvent Yourself with Lesley Jane Seymour’ podcast where women talk about their amazing life stories and how they reinvented themselves. 29:13
šŸ™ There is so much to be grateful for in life even during the pandemic. 32:43
🚚 Lesley fell in love in New Orleans and moved away from New York after 40 years. 34:56
šŸ¦øā€ā™€ļø In New Orleans you’re living very close to history and you either love it or not. 40:00

29. Using The ā€œ3C’sā€ to Get To Authentic & Genuine Communication, with Jill Katz27 Nov 202000:30:50

🤩Jill’s company focuses on the four critical C's of all company life, which is culture, communication, conflict and change. 2:33

🚦 Like every other entrepreneur, for years, Jill wanted to start her own business, but stopped herself on several occasions. 4:01

🤯 Jill observes the exact same issues across multiple industries.Ā  That’s why she focuses on opportunities to solve people’s problems. 5:20

šŸ›‘ People are oftentimes fearful in their workplaces, because of company culture, limited feedback mechanisms, which leads to workers shutting down communications completely. 7:46

šŸ’ƒ Jill’s 3C’s model of sharing feedback with Candor, Courage, and Care is bringing back personal authenticity to work lives and helps both productivity and stress reduction. 11:28

šŸ«‚ The 3C’s model is not good only for work but it highly improves all relationships because it is all about people. 14:00

āœŒļø HR Assemble is company agnostic, but focus on choosing to work with leaders that have the right mindset. 16:18

šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø We need a more humane corporate world and innovative leaders who recognize this. 18:16

šŸ™ƒ It's not always easy to explain to a group of cross functional partners or a leadership team that everything's going to be done in a different way. 20:26

🌸 At the end of day, culture is how we live and what we choose to do.  Every business owner should define it from the start of creating a business or it will define itself.  24:57

28. The Unspoken Realty of Women NOT Helping Women20 Nov 202000:37:55

Notes
šŸ”„ Adrienne boldly reached out to Antonia after reading her Swaay article about women who do not support other women. 1:03
🧱 Antonia is an Experience Collector. Her choices in life and career were centered around having incredible experiences and building something new. 2:46
šŸ“£ We need to talk about hypocrisy: Women are being disloyal to other women, but it’s not often spoken about. 9:07
😔 What to do when you experience a ā€˜mean girl from highschool’ comment? 10:54
ā˜ļø Having systemic support and practicing diplomatic responses to inappropriate comments at work is essential. 14:52
🤯 The reactions to Antonia’s article were huge, but all reactions were sent in private messages, as this is still taboo. 16:58
šŸ™ˆ Women focus on talking about men holding them down, but do not apply the same standard to other women. 21:06Ā
šŸ˜‡ Concept of kindness and custodianship vs the concept of the power of a pronoun.Ā  25:11
āš–ļø These days leaders have to be able to adapt to new concepts: bias for action, and balance towards thoughtfulness. 28:07

Pitching with Purpose: How to Craft a Winning Pitch Deck Story for Investors with Heather Lawver20 Sep 202400:39:46

As your company's founder, you are BeyoncƩ, and your slides in the pitch deck are your backup singers.

Heather Lawver, the founder and CEO of Ceemo.ai, has helped underrepresented founders raise over $172 million in venture capital. Heather shares her entrepreneurial journey, starting from graduating high school at 12, launching her first startup at 13, and creating a platform designed to automate brand marketing and pitch deck creation, which helps founders look polished and market-ready.

She says that pitch decks are like children's books for grown-ups who love money, while underrepresented founders often face a lack of early funding and expertise in branding and marketing. Heather decided to help fix this gap with Ceemo.ai. The approach to pitch decks is usually totally wrong because the founder, not the slides, should be the focus, as well as the emotional core that grabs an investor’s attention. Founders should rethink stories by viewing them from various angles, incorporating classic storytelling methods, and avoiding getting lost in the weeds, which is the first mistake entrepreneurs make.

Unfortunately, research shows there is a difference in how messages are received. Male founders often receive more positive, promotional questions, while women are asked defensive, preventative questions, even when delivering the same pitch. Women bring knowledge, kindness, and empathy, and we don’t need to adopt toxic traits commonly attributed to male leaders. However, we often struggle with self-doubt and hesitation.

It's time for women to reclaim their confidence and speak with the certainty and power we deserve. Language matters – saying "WHEN I reach my goals" instead of "IF I reach my goals" changes everything. Let’s shed doubt and take up space!

Notes:
⭐ Ceemo is preparing founders for pitch decks: underrepresented founders start ā€˜one day behind’ even if they have the funds. 03:37
šŸ‘” If you don’t pitch to investors, you need strategic brand material for banks, family investors, and non-profits. 08:27
🤯 Elements of a good pitch deck: you are the star, not the slides - you have one minute to show it all in the first two slides. 11:59
āš ļø Founders usually get lost; these are the most important questions founders should ask to get a perfect pitch deck. 13:57
šŸ†š Being aware of the problem vs the solution: emotional feeling is the key. 17:29
šŸ˜‡ When the person is the base: you have that ā€˜specialness’ when you address friends and family, angels, pre-seed, and seed ventures. 19:34
šŸ¤“ Ceemo will create an AI pitch generator: framing and creating unique stories while challenging the narrative owners created. 22:19
šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Differences in pitches between women and men: declarative, confident language vs. cautious and doubting. 30:19
šŸ† Stella Foundation is an amazing organization and Heather is their finalist this year. 37:09
