Pride & Allyship in Fundraising13 Jun 202400:47:14

It's Pride Season! So let's dive in. Pssst. May we have an itty bitty chat about the acronym LGBTQ? Or is it LGBTQ+? Where do we include the 2S? What does allyship look like from a fundraising perspective? What's the best approach to pronouns in the workplace? This conversation provides valuable insights into the challenges faced by the queer community and what we can do collectively to drive positive change.

This episode features three leaders in the Canadian fundraising space. Our two guests are Evan Maydaniuk (he/him) and Michaël Robach (he/him). Both Evan and Michaël are Directors of Development at their respective non-profits working alongside the queer community. Michaël works with QMUNITY in Vancouver, and Evan is with Rainbow Resource Centre in Winnipeg.

Located on Treaty One Territory and on the National Homeland of the Red River Metis, Rainbow Resource Centre is Canada’s longest-running 2SLGBTQ+ centre founded in 1973.

QMUNITY is a 2SLGBTQIA+ Resource Centre that delivers queer, trans, and Two-Spirit programs & Services across BC.

Evan is a proud Ukrainian-Canadian and citizen of the Red River Métis Nation who is excited to bring his fundraising talents to the Rainbow Resource Centre. He holds a BBA degree from the University of Winnipeg where he focused his studies on non-profit management and has since earned his CFRE (Certified Fund-Raising Executive).

With a focus on education and capacity-building, Michael has dedicated his career to serving marginalized communities within the charitable sector. His past work spans a range of critical issues, including child protection, rare diseases, and reconciliation. Through learning and awareness, Michael seeks to empower individuals to become allies, advocates, and agents of change. He believes that when we educate ourselves and others, we not only promote tolerance but also create a foundation for building a more accepting and inclusive society where everyone can thrive.

This episode is hosted by Global's own Pat Estey, (he/him) Senior Consultant based in British Columbia.

The Cookie Queens of Canada27 Apr 202300:42:32

Today’s episode has us jetting off to the quaint town of Dunnville, in Ontario’s Niagara peninsula to chat with Penny Banks of the Dunnville Hospital and Healthcare Foundation. Penny is the passionate and upbeat Executive Director of the foundation and enthusiastically spends a good portion of Smile Cookie Week elbow deep in cookie dough. Penny’s organization teamed up with the Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie campaign and the union paid off – literally. Since 1996, $77 million has been raised for organizations through smile cookies, and Dunnville’s tiny hospital foundation has fundraised more money than any other organization in Canada. Dunnville, Ontario is now the “Cookie Capital of Canada” crowning Penny and her team the “Cookie Queens of Canada”. Today’s episode is hosted by Global Philanthropic Canada’s resident storyteller and Senior Consultant, Janine Foster-Elmslie.  Want to learn more? Trust and interconnectivity in Canadian fundraising01 Apr 202500:29:50

What makes philanthropy tick in the Canadian landscape? How do we collectively squeeze the most juice out of associations and memberships to elevate your non-profit's mission and your fundraising career? What does it mean to be a fundraising generalist?

In this episode, we dive in to discuss fundraising in Canada from the perspective of Lisa Dayanandan, CFRE. Lisa is a self-described storyteller, connector and big picture thinker. A former teacher, she found her way into fundraising and never looked back. Currently, she works as Philanthropy Advisor with the Edmonton Community Foundation while also volunteering with AFP Edmonton and Area Chapter and the Canadian Association of Gift Planners.

This episode is hosted by Corrie Fortner. If Lisa is a storyteller, connector and big picture thinker, Corrie is an empath, problem-solver extraordinaire and a visionary leader. She is a compassionate and strategic fund development professional with a strong history of success working with donors, leading teams, and supporting organizations to attain and surpass their goals. She currently works with Global Philanthropic Canada as Vice President, Prairies & Territories and Senior Consultant for many Canadian non-profits.

The 3 Cs of Fundraising: Culture, Capacity and Competency30 Jul 202500:33:47

Let's discuss ways to enhance your nonprofit's efficiency and achieve optimal outcomes. When evaluating the philanthropic health and potential of your nonprofit organization, have you assessed the 3 Cs: Culture, Capacity and Competency? These three dimensions offer a comprehensive and practical framework for assessing readiness to effectively fundraise, particularly through the lens of both staffing and volunteer leadership.

Each “C” provides critical insight into how to engage with the full solicitation cycle—from identification and qualification to cultivation and solicitation, and finally through stewardship and renewal.

This episode is hosted by Global Philanthropic Canada's own Jeff Sodowsky. Jeff is Vice President, Pacific and Senior Consultant. This episode features two special guests: Barney Ellis-Perry, CEO of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation and Kirsten Koppang Telford, CEO of The Forum.
