Austin is experiencing The Crow for the first time—well, sort of! On the other hand, for Jason, The Crow is one of his formative films, shaping his love for dark, atmospheric cinema, and this rewatch holds a special kind of nostalgia. We had to re-record this episode due to a technical issue, but in true Crow fashion, we’ve managed to come back even stronger—one-upping our previous outing in the process. In this episode, we’ll discuss the tragic legacy of Brandon Lee, the film’s deep themes of grief, vengeance, and redemption, and the stunningly dark visuals that made it a 90s touchstone. But that’s not all—this episode also features a discussion of the 2024 remake of The Crow, a topic that’s sure to spark some passionate debate. Can it live up to the iconic original? On today’s episode the returning Nick and Michael sit down to tackle a big shame list entry… yes, they’re watching HIGHLANDER. Connor MacLeod is an immortal that’s been wandering the globe since 1536. He’s been everywhere from Scotland to New York City defending himself in sword fights against other immortals. MacLeod’s existence has been a secret this whole time, but after beheading one of his immortal challengers, his situation gets far more hectic when a beautiful forensics officer starts investigating these beheadings and the ancient weapons found at the scene of the crimes. MacLeod reflects on his life, his former love and his mentor all the while being hunted by the NYC Police and a ruthless immortal known as The Kurgan who aims to claim his prize for being the final immortal. Directed by Russel Mulcahy in 1986 from a script by Gregory Widen, Peter Bellwood and Larry Ferguson based on a script Gregory Widen wrote in college. The film has a relatively successful release with some solid reviews, but took a whole new life on Home Video and has now reached cult status. HIGHLANDER has spawned 5 sequels, two different live-action TV shows, novels, animated series, comics and more. Let’s also not forget about the amazing grouping of songs that Queen produced for the film. I dare you to put on “Princes of the Universe” and not crank it to 11. HIGHLANDER stars Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown, Roxanne Hart, Beatie Edney and Sean Connery as MacLeod’s mentor Juan Sanches Villa-Lobos Ramirez. As always, please rate, review, and subscribe. | The Shame List Picture Show S2E19 – MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET (1947) | 07 Dec 2018 | 01:00:38
Season 2, Episode 19 (Originally released on December 06, 2018) HO HO HO! HAPPY HOLIDAYS! We here at the SLPS hope you’re having a great Christmas season. As is tradition, Nick and Michael will be spending our anniversary episode discussing a Christmas film! After this episode we’ll be taking a month off and will be back with Season 3 in January! On today’s episode we’ll be discussing a classic Christmas film that’s been on Michael’s shame list for ages, George Seaton’s MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET Made in 1947 under the title THE BIG HEART, MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET uses Macy’s Department Store, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as it’s backdrop. A man who looks a lot like Santa Claus whom we only know as Kris Kringle is wondering around New York set on finding the man who is to play Santa in the parade. Once he notices the imposter Santa is a drunk, Kringle finds the manager to the parade and insists he play the role instead. He does such a great job, Mr. Macy himself requests this man take on the role of Santa in their department store. As the film progresses Kringle is adamant on spreading Holiday cheer and showing that Christmas isn’t just about commercialism and proving to a young girl that Santa Claus does, in fact, exist. Oh, and to top it all off, Santa is taken to court and to prove in a court of law that he is Santa Claus. Part heartwarming comedy, part court-room drama, this film has it all. MIRACLE is considered one of the greatest films of all-time and has consistently topped multiple AFI lists of greatest films ever made in multiple categories. The films stars Maureen O’Hara, Natalie Wood, John Payne and Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle. Don’t forget that the newest film by Zach Shildwachter and BJ Colangelo, POWERBOMB, debuts on Thursday December 6th at 7pm at the Capital Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio As always, please rate, review, and subscribe.

| The Shame List Picture Show S2E18 – THE CELL (2000) | 24 Nov 2018 | 00:52:48 | |
Season 2, Episode 18 (originally released on November 23, 2018) On today’s episode we’ll be discussing two movies over the span of two episodes. First up is a movie on my shame list that was recommended to me back on our Dark City episode, Tarsem Singh’s THE CELL. THE CELL is a twisted serial killer film that’s part Police procedural and part fantastical, sci-fi inspired acid trip. It’s definitely an odd combination, but comes together is an oddly satisfying way. The film is about Dr. Catherine Deane who helps treat Coma patients with an experimental virtual reality machine that allows her to go into the dreams of her patients to help communicate with them. While all this is going on, FBI agents Peter Novak and Gordon Ramsey are hot on the tails of a serial killer that has a fascination with turning his female victims into dolls. The FBI are finally able to catch the killer, but a rare disease causes him to fall into a coma… so the FBI must get Dr. Deane to help find where a missing girl is held by going into the dark and twisted dreams of a serial killer. The film had a mixed reaction from critics calling it a mess of stunning visuals but lacking in substance. That being said, the film has taken on a new cult following and is arguably one of the most interesting films J-Lo ever starred in. It also features a fascinating score by Howard Shore. The film stars Jennifer Lopez, Vince Vaughn, Marianne Jean Baptist and Vincent D’Onfrio as serial killer Carl Rudolph Stargher. POWERBOMB (www.clevelandcinemas.com) Don’t forget that the newest film by Zach Shildwachter and BJ Colangelo, POWERBOMB, debuts on Thursday December 6th at 7pm at the Capital Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio Also worth mentioning is that Vinegar Syndrome is doing their massive Black Friday sale this weekend.
