Ep 3404: Ireland Hammer Australia, Mack Is A Catch, Which 10 For SA, The Red Boks - 17/11/25

lundi 17 novembre 2025Duration 51:56

The Irish lineout was near perfect, their kicking game was on point, a few key players are back in form, they have a new fullback option in Mack Hansen, both 10's played well, they beat Australia by a record margin and the fans in Lansdowne Road went home happy for the second time in four days... the good times just keep rolling in Irish sport.

We chat to Shane Horgan and Andrew Trimble about the many positives from Saturday night, Mack at 15, the art of catching, where the tries came from, Prendergast's attacking game and his defensive frailties, who should start against South Africa and if the red cards in the last two weeks for Mostert and De Jager will soften Rassie's cough when it comes to collisions next weekend.

Believe The Hype, Orla's Year, Parker And Lee, Ruthless Giants

vendredi 24 octobre 2025Duration 27:10

Orla Comerford has just come off a sensational year, one which started in Paris in September 2024 when she took a Paralympic bronze medal in the 100m and finished 3 weeks ago with double World Championship golds in the 100 and 200m. She joined us in studio this week to chat through the madness of the last 13 months.

It’s almost World Series time, and reigning champions the LA Dodgers got there courtesy of the single greatest display in the history of American sports. For once, the hype is justified. We discussed the Ohtani miracle with US Murph. We also chatted to Andy Lee and Joseph Parker at our live show. Parker is a World heavyweight champion but his career was drifting until he hooked up with Andy in the last few years and he’s back in the ring this Saturday night in London.

Plus there's former Derry u-20 footballer Jude McAtamney getting selected for, and then ruthlessly let go, by the NY Giants, the Guardian’s Jonathan Liew told us why he thinks a ban on Maccabi Tel-Aviv is not a ban on Jewish football fans.

Next week Ken is back, there's Ire V NZ in Chicago and build up to Ireland's historic Under-17 World Cup appearance.

Monday’s shows are free to all. To listen to our programming throughout the rest of the week, join the Second Captains World Service. There’s no contracts, no hidden fees and shows can be listened to on all good podcast apps, on Spotify or through our website. Ep 3188: Inter Fort Lauderdale, Messi: Still Good - 03/03/25

lundi 3 mars 2025Duration 49:16

Maybe he picked the wrong week to be away. Last week brought probably the decisive matches of the Premier League and a fight pitting Ian Harte against all the League of Ireland managers. This weekend was the FA Cup, arguments about the quality of balls, a story about a player disrespectfully bringing his dog to training.

With the Champions League promising bigger things later in the week, Ken reviews his time in Miami and his trip to the really-quite-far-away Chase Stadium: did the jewel of South Florida live up to Will Smith's billing?

We also talk about Manchester United's latest defeat, as is tradition.

Ep 1244: "Hurling's Just Mad" - The All-Ireland Final Edition, Limerick's Wait Is Over - 20/08/2018

lundi 20 août 2018Duration 47:43

Even in a bad game, in this extraordinary year hurling found a way to be exceptional, as Limerick dominated the All-Ireland champions Galway for 70 minutes, and still nearly got caught in injury time. Thus ends a 45-year wait for an All-Ireland title for Limerick, and they celebrated in style. We try and celebrate the year in review with two All-Ireland winners of our own, Eoin Kelly and Michael Duignan, and we discuss Limerick's winning blend of aggression and style which won the hardest-earned All-Ireland of them all. Ken smugly reminds us of his confident pre-match prediction of a crushing Limerick victory, Murph convinces himself that in fact Galway wuz robbed, and we hail the stunning co-commentary stylings of Anthony Daly. Plus Shane Dowling is having a party and everyone's invited, Ken ponders a trip to Limerick to hang out with his celebrity pal, and Limerick face down their demons and win anyway.

Ep 1238: Are The Dubs Bored Of Winning, Tyrone's Final, Koepka's Knocks, Rhys' Gold - 13/08/2018

lundi 13 août 2018Duration 48:58

This year's All-Ireland football final will be between Dublin and Tyrone, after Tyrone pipped Monaghan by a point, and the Dubs eased past Galway in the semis. The question is starting to be asked though - are even the Dublin fans bored by Dublin's dominance at this stage? Ken launches a stirring defence of his boys with a passionate charm offensive, before Mike Quirke and Oisin McConville join us to discuss if Dublin will be forced to break sweat at all this year. We talk about Brooks Koepka's consistent efforts to look for slights real or imagined, even as a three-time major champion. We also discuss Rhys McClenaghan's brilliance in winning gold for Ireland on the pommel horse, and the incredible Ingebrigtsens. Plus there's misunderstood Murph, natural born Dubs, and what do Mayo have that the rest don't?
