40 Years On With Maurice Malpas: When Roma Cheated Dundee Utd Out Of European Glory
27 Apr 2024
00:30:01
It's all about league title success for Dundee United right now but this time 40 years ago the focus was all on European football.
The Tannadice side could have got to the final of the European Cup if it wasn't for a hugely controversial referee bribery taking place in their semi final second leg away to Roma.
In the story that could have been, United legend Maurice Malpas joins us for a look back on an incredible era in the club's history.
‘Stotland’ Players Are Falling Apart
23 Apr 2024
00:59:05
We may not get an Old Firm title decider in the league but Celtic and Rangers will go head to head in the Scottish Cup final for the first time in 22 years.
Laura Brannan and John Blaesdale join host Andrew Slaven for a look back on an incredible semi final between Aberdeen and Celtic and a not-so-dramatic clash between Rangers and Hearts.
The Scotland players are being hit by injuries just a month before the Euros squad is announced, we just can't bear to watch the end of the season anymore.
And Dundee United have all but wrapped up the Championship title. But as well as that, we look back to 40 years ago when they almost won the European Cup.
Maurice Malpas joins us to reflect on a wonderful era at Tannadice and a not-so-wonderful semi final tie with Roma that ended in controversy.
RUNNING ORDER: 00:00 - Intro: Have you ever seen A Shot At Glory? 04:16 - Funnies: Grammer mistakes and Ally McCoist loves AC/DC. 08:26 - News: Scotland's injury crisis, the Cerebral palsy World Cup, Buckie Thistle win the Highland League and the PFA Team of the Year. 23:27 - Scottish Cup semi final round up 34:45 - Which clubs will reach Europe now? 40:09 - Dundee United's glory days with Maurice Malpas 53:30 - Pitch invasions before you've even won the league 57:16 - Goodbyes

See You Jimmy
15 Apr 2024
00:41:16
Rangers title tilt was trashed by Ross County who, themselves, ended their hoodoo with their first every victory over the Gers. How much does that affect the top and bottom of the Premiership tables?
Motherwell’s equaliser against Hibernian meant that neither club made the top six - the result instead confirming Dundee position in the top half of the table for the final matches of the season.
And could Aberdeen be about to announce Elfsborg Manager, Jimmy Thelin as their new boss?
Andrew Slaven is joined by commentator & author Andy Bargh and Melbourne City’s Creative Director, Findlay Marks, to discuss all of this and much more.
RUNNING ORDER: 00:00 - HEADLINES 00:28 - INTRO // Jaap Stam, James Horncastle and rubbish punditry 04:43 - FUNNIES // We need to talk about Robbie Nielsen, and farewell to the Spaghettihad 08:36 - ABERDEEN // Who is their proposed new manager, Jimmy Thelin? 17:09 - MOTHERWELL // Could a new investor be incoming? 22:00 - SCOTTISH CUP // Previewing Aberdeen v Celtic and Hearts v Rangers 28:17 - SPFL // Sensational Staggies, determined Dundee and the Marley Watkins situation at Killie... 40:08 - OUTRO
Drama at the top, drama in the middle and another league title is wrapped up, what a weekend in Scottish football.
Rangers and Celtic fought it out in a 3-3 draw to keep the title race hot and spicy, while the top six split was sizzling away nicely ahead of next weekend’s finale.
Stenhousemuir clinched their first ever league title and promotion to League One, Falkirk continue to stretch for the Invincibles title and St Mirren secured back-to-back top six finishes.
Meanwhile the team chat about Dundee’s pitch and whether they should be allowed to host games, Robbie Neilson’s dodgy French accent and Craig Levein’s latest soundbite.
Join Andrew Slaven, Findlay Marks, Laura Brannan and Anthony Joseph for the latest stories across Scottish football.

We’re talking Old Firm and in this case, everyone wins. The away fans are coming back - the SPFL have helped Celtic and Rangers come to an agreement that’ll see the derby return to normal next season.
What is going on at Aberdeen? Another week and yet still no manager, why does no one seem to want the job?
Andrew is joined by Sky Sports Anthony Joseph and TNT Sports Laura Brannan as they review the weekend’s events, including newly crowned League One Champions Falkirk, the spectacular Hibs pinball machine and whether the top six dream is over for Motherwell.
RUNNING ORDER: 00:00: Intro 02:38: The latest funny stories 09:49: Ticket allocation at Old Firm games 19:44: Falkirk clinch League One 23:57: Scotland squad injury update 27:17: What's going on at Pittodrie? 35:04: Motherwell's top six dream 37:37: St Johnstone draw with Dundee 40:15: Championship round up 41:21: League 1 round up 42:37: League 2 round up 44:27: Outro
It’s that time of year when it’s all about the silverware, but we still can’t get away from some classic shithousery at the same time.
Airdrie lifted the Challenge Cup, denying the embarrassing prospect of a Welsh team winning a Scottish competition. And both Falkirk and Stenhousemuir could wrap up the League One and Two titles respectively this coming weekend.
Clyde 1 producer and Bairns fan from the Falkirk Daft podcast, John McInally joins us to chat about the possibility of finishing the season as Invincibles.
It was also another big international week as Scotland played two of their four warm up friendlies for Euro 2024 this summer, but let's face it, after an hour in the Netherlands things just went from bad to worse over the next 120 minutes.
And what about Rangers redecorating the Hearts dressing room without permission? We question whether the badge gate outrage was justified.

Raith Rovers are continuing to defy the odds, pushing favourites Dundee United all the way in the Championship, so we sat down with the Chief Executive, Andrew Barrowman, to find out what's been going on behind the scenes at Starks Park.
There's a big vote at Fir Park this week as members of the Well Society are asked if they'd consider giving up their majority shareholding and ultimately end Motherwell's time as a fan owned club.

Banish those January blues because the football has finally fully resumed after the winter break.
And with that, the gang are back together too. The Scottish Cup Fourth Round brought a much needed tonic for Andrew Slaven, Laura Brannan and Findlay Marks who hail the goal of the round from The Spartans' James Craigan and the dramatic victories for Airdrie, Bonnyrigg Rose and Partick Thistle.

The festive spirit is strong as we approach Christmas, but not in Scottish football.
Derek Adams has put every single one of his players on the naughty list after their stoppage time defeat to Dundee.
And his post match comments weren’t the only ones raising eyebrows this week. A lump of coal is firmly on it’s way to Barry Robson as well after some wild post cup final remarks.
And what about Santa himself? He was booed off the pitch at Celtic Park and ripped his hair off in front of the shocked children.
Ahh, Scottish football.
There was also a cup final this weekend, with Rangers securing the first silverware of the season.
And as we approach the 16 year anniversary of Phil O’Donnell’s death, and just days after Luton Town defender Tom Lockyer suffered a heart attack on the pitch, we speak to Hearts’ club doctor, Dr Michael Campbell about what clubs are doing to to spot and prevent these issues.

It’s the final week of the most incredible qualification campaign, can Scotland bow out on a high against Georgia and Norway?
Tartan Scarf’s Gordon Sheach joins Andrew Slaven, Findlay Marks and Laura Brannan for the build up to another Scotland double header.
Meanwhile, Kilmarnock look set to bin their plastic pitch, Aberdeen are up in arms over their unfair treatment going into the League Cup Final and have you heard the real reason John McGinn celebrates with goggles over his eyes?
Oh, and Robbie Neilson is now officially a fanny. Tune in to find out why.
After the incredible display by Rangers away in Dundee, pyro has been a hotly debated topic again across our game.
While most of the coverage has been incendiary (no pun intended), we wanted to try to move the conversation forward and look at whether safe pyro can ever be introduced in Scotland, so Andrew Slaven and Laura Brannan caught up with Tommy Cordsen, a Danish expert on pyrotechnics who invented Tifontaine; a form of cold pyro.
Andrew Slaven, Findlay Marks and Andy Bargh discuss all the latest happenings on the park as well, as Aberdeen and Rangers booked their places in the first Cup Final of the season.
Celtic, meanwhile, extended their lead at the top of the table in the Premiership. The Parkhead club's decision to extend their ban of the Green Brigade to home matches as well has gathered much attention off the park, but are they justified in their actions?
And St Johnstone have acted swiftly in appointing Craig Levein as their new manger, but will his appointment lead to division amongst Saints fans?
RUNNING ORDER: 00:00 - Intro 03:46 - Funnies 08:50 - St Johnstone appoint Craig Levein as their new manager 14:27 - Celtic ban the Green Brigade from all fixtures 21:47 - Cold pyro with Danish pyrotechnic expert Tommy Cordsen 34:17 - Viaplay League Cup semi-final reaction 39:17 - SPFL Premiership round-up 43:49 - SPFL Championship, League 1 & League 2 round-up 46:58 - Outro
There could be a dramatic change ahead for Scottish football. The rules around dual ownership of clubs could be relaxed, which might see some sides snapped up by the likes of Red Bull and City Group in the future.
Laura Brannan, Findlay Marks and Andrew Dickson look at whether this injection of cash would benefit our game or if it’s too raw and honest for the plastic route.
We also ask why Celtic, Rangers and Motherwell are getting annoyed at the festive fixtures, and how Christmas impacts the playing squad.
And St Johnstone part ways with manager Steven MacLean after a 4-0 defeat away to St Mirren, but was it inevitable?
RUNNING ORDER: 00:00 - Intro 00:31 - Funnies 06:26 - Reaction to St Johnstone sacking Steven MacLean 13:52 - Dual ownership rules changing for Scottish clubs 33:48 - Premiership clubs angry at Christmas fixture schedule 41:14 - SPFL Round-up
It’s one year since VAR was introduced to Scottish football, have you enjoyed the journey so far?
Join Andrew Slaven, Findlay Marks and Laura Brannan as they catch up with former referee Des Roache from Get Involved Referee! Podcast again to assess how smooth he thinks the process has been.
There’s trouble in Paradise as tensions rise between Celtic and their supporters. They’ve locked out the Green Brigade from away games indefinitely.
And we look back on Scotland’s defeat to France, and the images that came out of the players celebrating qualification to Euro 2024 in Blue Lagoon… which led to the revelation Laura does not like chips.

We've done it… Scotland's place at Euro 2024 is now secured and we can all finally get on with planning a mad wan tae Germany next summer.
Join Findlay Marks, Laura Brannan and Alba\Matter’s Andy Laing for a comprehensive look at the international break.
And with the news that Philippe Clement is the new man in the Ibrox hotseat, we're joined by Scott Coyne from The Belgian Football Podcast to discuss what Rangers fans can expect from the Belgian.
It’s international week and Scotland are off to sunny Spain in search of at least one point that will clinch them qualification to Euro 2024.
But who will replace Keiran Tierney? Would you take Lyndon Dykes in goal? And is John McGinn and Scott McTominay’s last minute goals this week a good omen?
Meanwhile, Duncan Ferguson’s been dripping in Dream Rings as his new job at Inverness Caley Thistle saw him posing for a completely normal and not-at-all awkward photo with donuts.
And we have more from Rory Hamilton and Derek Rae, this time on commentating on Scotland games and what to expect from the party in Germany next summer.

Aberdeen’s 3-1 win at Ibrox proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Michael Beale who will now be replaced by Steven Davis in the dugout.
The host broadcaster chose not to televise any game… which is a shame considering there were a couple of classics in there.
And the SPFL’s League Cup semi final ticket allocation is controversially denying Hearts a 50/50 split of Hampden.
But in more positive news, we’re joined by commentary royalty as Derek Rae and Rory Hamilton tell us about how they got into the industry, some of their most iconic moments and what actually goes into their pre match preparation.

A week of firsts in the SPFL; a first win of the Premiership season for Aberdeen, a maiden home victory for Nick Montgomery in his second game charge of Hibs, and record-breaking first appearances for a couple of young Hibs & St Johnstone players.
It's not all plain sailing however in the top flight. Three wins in a week for Rangers but many fans are irked by what they're seeing at Ibrox under Michael Beale, including the manager himself.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle have announced Duncan Ferguson as their new manager. Caley fan Andrew Young from The Wyness Shuffle Podcast joins us to reflect on what's been going on at the Highland club.

At the other end of the managerial success scale though, Billy Dodds and his assistant Barry Wilson have departed Inverness Caledonian Thistle after a poor start to the season.
