Part 5 has begun, and you can feel the pace ramping up. Has the Sanderlanche truly begun? Perhaps. Perhaps not, but if it hasn't, you can certainly feel the stormwall's approach on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

Joe is out for a few weeks to spend time with his new baby. This time around we thought we'd try to go a little more on-brand for Sanderlanche content. So we're reading new Sanderson stuff! I've picked out some stand-alone short stories and novellas we can read for a few weeks without Joe feeling like he's missing out on much. First up is Firstborn, the first sci-fi story Brandon ever published. Even in this early piece of writing Brandon manages to pull some interesting little tricks, even if the ending is a bit abrupt.

We've arrived at a mysterious temple high up in the mountains, and things are taking a decided Indiana Jones-esque turn in this book. Or The Golden Child? Maybe it's Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls. If there's a slinky scene next week I'm either all the way in or all the way out. Anyway, as we creep up on the end of the book, the crew is spinning some wonderful theories this week. We finally meet Telsin, and every person on our podcast crew is convinced she must be a secret bad guy. Are they right? Well, too soon to tell. It's time to invade a ... warehouse. Ok, so that's not terribly dramatic sounding, but believe me, it's pretty intense. In these chapters our characters learn some interesting things about an eldritch device or two and then plan an infiltration. The podcast crew has mixed reactions. The chapters feel very much like setup, but what they're setting up also seems quite intriguing. So find out what our newbies think of these two chapters on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

Joe missed this episode but did send in a few thoughts that you can find inserted toward the end. Otherwise this is a wacky, action-packed entry. Just about all our characters get their chance to shine in these chapters. Marasi, Wayne, and Steris all get some terrific moments for the crew to appreciate. We're back from our break, and we've got some interesting stuff to talk about with these chapters. What is Amaram really up to? Was Gavilar part of it? And what are the Ghostbloods up to? We have no idea, but it's fun to guess on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

On this week's episode we arrive at New Seran and are treated to something out of a sketch comedy show. Seriously, Wax and co should take this act on the road. In addition to that, an interesting email has our whole crew reliving their acting accomplishments. It's something of a rare insight into the histories of our hosts on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

These chapters feature some very cute relationship moments and the train robbery that contributed heavily to the choice of song for this book. In addition, Steris just keeps climbing the ladder of favorite characters for the crew. See it happen again on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

It probably won't come as a shock to too many listeners, especially after last week, but the crew is getting a little bit tired of Wayne and his selfish antics. Jaymee had to sit this one out. So it's an all-guy show. There's some interesting little tidbits coming out in these chapters, but really it's a lot of talking. We're all really loving MeLaan, though. The kandra is stealing the show on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

How much of what Waxillium Ladrian does is him being a hero and how much is just a rich man refusing to follow the rules to do whatever he wants? Wax finds a dead body and then has a little chat with god. So, you know, not a particularly eventful couple of chapters or anything. The crew is really getting drawn into the story now that our apparent villain is coming into focus. Though the name "Bleeder" doesn't exactly wow them. What is this kandra planning, and why does it seem to involve Wax? Find out in this book (one would hope), but certainly not in this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

Joe missed this one, but you'll find a little addition from him spliced awkwardly into the beginning of the episode. Are my editing skills absolutely par or what? ... Sub you say? Huh. Alright then. Anyway, Jaymee, Dac and I try to pick up the slack by really getting into these chapters and particularly ripping apart the use of High Imperial. We get into the book proper this week, and there are mixed reactions. We're jumping right into some action which is always good, but there's also lots of setup here and no completely clear path as to what to expect next. In this episode we meet Allomancer Jak, hero of the roughs. There are ... strong feelings about him amongst the crew. There's a reveal of the dark, terrible secret behind the existence of the Koloss (they're people; the secret is they're people, shocking, I know). We also get another wacky Wax/Lessie adventure. We finally solve the mystery of the Vanishers and how they ... you know, vanish things. That's a verb, right? Anyway, also there's another big firefight. Wax shoots and blows up some guys. Wayne beats them up. Even Marasi gets in on the action. With only one more episode left in this book, though, the real fun is hearing what the crew thinks will happen to manage to wrap this story up by the end. This week we meet Ranette, who is an interesting character, if not quite what some of the crew had been hoping for. And then Wax has a plan. We're rapidly approaching the end of the book now, but exactly what that end will look like is still shrouded in mystery for our newbies. Some great theories this week, though. Is Mr. Suit not human? Is Miles an old friend in disguise? Is Marasi still the secret bad guy? Who knows? Not us on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

This week our crew gets to meet the infamous Miles Hundredlives, and then they get to see Wax fight him on top of a moving train. Also, Clamps appears. I can't stress enough how much we all love that there's a guy called Clamps in this book. Hear the myriad Futurama references that inevitably follow on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

This week there's a couple of attempted murders, which, let's be honest, is kind of a step back from all the actual killing in the previous episode. On top of that, we get some very emotional backstory on Wayne, which has each of our crew feeling like actual feelings for this wacky, off-the-wall sidekick. All this and Brandon's Kickstarter on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!

The flashback in this section contains some very interesting possibilities. The current-day chapter has almost as many. And is that Hoid that we're seeing here, there, and everywhere? It might just be.

So, yeah, that sums up the first chapter pretty well. And then there's a nice little chat about chemistry and human nature, just for a change of pace. Kind of whiplashy couple of chapters for our crew, but they came through them ok. Still a lot of suspicious looks being thrown Marasi's way. There's just something off about that girl. Jaymee is out this week. So the boys get together to discuss a chatty couple of chapters. Marasi's character starts to develop a bit more, and the Wax and Wayne relationship is really coming to life - that is until the party is stormed by bandits, a guy gets murdered, and Steris and Marasi are both kidnapped. This week we meet Wayne and the Harms family. We also learn about the mysterious railroad-robbing Vanishers gang. And while the mysteries of who the Vanishers are, and how and why they're pulling off these robberies is definitely enticing, the real gem for our crew this week was Steris. This week we return to Scadrial for The Alloy of Law. Our crew is delighted by the western vibe and intrigued by Waxillium Ladrian, our new allomancer-about-town. But mysteries abound.
