House Of The Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 "The Red Sowing" Breakdown - the Salty Nerds are back with another breakdown review and recap of HBO's Game Of Thrones spin-off, House Of The Dragon. After Addam of Hull reveals he can ride Seasmoke, Rhaenyra puts out the call for all "lowborn" Targaryen offshoots to come try and claim a dragon, and wouldn't you know it? Hugh the Hammer and Ulf answer the call! But not before Jace gets all mopey about it. Oh, and Rhaena is on the hunt for her own dragon, Sheepstealer, in the Vale. Happy Thanksgiving 2022 everyone!  In this Thanksgiving special episode, the nerds dive into Poultrygeist: Night Of The Chicken Dead, and instantly regret it.  

When an ancient Indian burial ground is bulldozed in order to open a fried chicken fast food chain, the spirits get angry and possess the chickens used to make the meals at the restaurant, possessing those who eat the disgusting meals.  Oh, and the movie is a musical as well, so there are plenty of terrible musical numbers as well as tasteless, offensive jokes and lots of gross bodily fluids.  This movie has the distinction of being one of THE WORST movies the Nerds have ever been subjected to.  So of course it stands to reason they'd want to tell you all about it!  Be thankful we watched this so you don't have to!

The Vampire Lovers movie review from the Salty Nerds has them stunned that a horror exploitation film from the 1970s could be so much fun.  

Based on a novella that pre-dates Dracula, The Vampire Lovers is the first instance of lesbian vampires on screen (or in literature).  Sired by a mysterious vampire, Marcilla goes from one Noble's house to another, systematically seducing their young daughters while feeding off them and eventually killing them.  At least until she gets to the Morton household, where the butler Renton catches onto her scheme and moves to protect the young mistress long enough for Peter Cushing's General von Spielsdorf to lead his crew of vampire hunters to take Marcilla and her LGBTQ tendencies out!

The Valley of Gwangi movie review from the Salty Nerds has them tearing into Alex's pick for the retro re-watch of November 2022.  The Valley of Gwangi 1969 is basically a re-hash of King Kong, but with dinosaurs and cowboys.  

Spearheaded by the legendary special effects master Ray Harryhausen as a tribute to his former mentor Willis O'Brien, this was the last movie Harryhausen ever animated dinosaurs for due to the huge failure of the movie at the box office and the disrespect Warner Brothers showed for the film.  The movie is about a cowboy named Tuck Kirby who seeks fame and fortune by capturing a dinosaur that lives in the Forbidden Valley and featuring it in a Mexican circus.  However, things go bad when the dinosaur, called Gwangi, gets loose and starts a deadly rampage through town.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1956 movie review from the Salty Nerds has them diving deep into this B-movie that became a sci-fi classic, which has been re-made and re-imagined multiple times!  

Based on the Collier's magazine serial by author Jack Finney, this movie is made by Dirty Harry director Don Siegel and stars Kevin McCarthy and Dana Wynter.  Made for an extremely low budget and shot on an accelerated schedule, this classic science fiction film shouldn't be as good as it is.  In fact, it's entire special effects budget was just $30,000.  

Invasion of the Body Snatchers is about spores from outer space that grow pods which replicate the bodies of people nearby.  Copying them while they sleep, the pods spawn perfect replicas that actually take over the original.  But there's a problem - the copies lack the emotion of their originals, and their hive-mind-like goal of replacing everyone on Earth makes them an immanent threat.  Can Dr. Miles Bennell warn the authorities before he gets replaced?

Part Marry Shelly's Frankenstein, part Jurassic Park, SPLICE is a film about humanity's genetic future and the consequences of playing God.  Starring Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley, and David Hewlett, this movie tells the story of two scientists who create a whole new species only to discover that their creation is far more dangerous than they first believed.  Written and directed by Vincenzo Natali, this is a unique and terrifying film that's sure to make everyone who sees it never want to watch it again!  But in that sense, it has a unique charm you can't find in most horror films.

The second in a proposed trilogy of Hellboy films from legendary director Guillermo del Toro, Ron Perlman is back as the titular "demon cop" with both Selma Blair and Doug Jones reprising their roles as Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien, respectively.  This time around, some pesky Elves are looking to destroy humanity by gaining control of the Golden Army, a legion of robot soldiers that are quite indestructible.  The only question is if the BPRD will be able to stop them in time.

The last ever episode of SEE, Jason Momoa's fantasy AppleTV series, is finally here!  It's been a long ride with this show about a future where everyone is blind, and the Salty Nerds are sad to see it go, but also glad that they won't have to deal with its ridiculousness anymore.  

In this series finale, Boba Voss and Ranger assault Sybeth's camp and murder a ton of Trevantians.  Meanwhile, the greatest Ayura ever can hear the Pensans escaping underground, so Sybeth starts bombing the city again until Mahgra and her crew show up to save the day.  There's lots of explosions and all the loose-threads are tied up.  Oh, and Kofun is still terrible.

Hellboy 2004 review from the Salty Nerds has them debating as to whether this comic book adaptation from Guillermo del Toro is incredibly brilliant, or incredibly boring.  

Starring Ron Pearlman, Doug Jones, and Selma Blair, Hellboy tells the story of a demon summoned during World War II who grows up to become a supernatural law enforcement officer who protects humanity from a variety of Lovecraftian threats.  But he also might be the very thing that destroys humanity as well.  Adapted from the comic book from artist Mike Mignola, Hellboy 2004 has amazing visuals and is quite faithful to the comics, but is the story interesting enough to keep audiences interested?

Battlestar Galactica season 1 episode 3 Bastille Day sees the return of the ORIGINAL Apollo, Richard Hatch!  

The fleet's water crisis is reaching critical levels and they need manual labor to help mine ice to replenish their supplies.  Lee Adama comes up with a solution to have the 1500 men who are incarcerated on a prison transport earn their freedom by doing the labor.  The only problem is that revolutionary William Zarek has organizes the prisoners and refuses to let them help the fleet.  Zarek's charisma has also won over the guards, and when the emissaries from Galactica are taken hostage, the situation has the potential to spiral out of control unless Apollo can figure out a way to appease Zarek, rescue the hostages, and get the prisoners agree to mine the ice the fleet needs to survive.

The Salty Nerds talk about the PENULTIMATE episode of House of the Dragon.  After the King's death, those loyal to the Queen immediately set about scheming to get Aegon II onto the throne.  But not everyone is in lock-step, as a power struggle between Alicent and her father over control of Aegon and how to deal with Rhaenyra plays out.  Meanwhile, Aegon has no interest in being King and flees the Red Keep, setting off a desperate search to be the first to find him between those loyal to Alicent and those loyal to her father Otto.  And in-between them, Larys Strong and Mysaria the White Worm jockey for position as their competing spy networks are put into play.

Wyrmwood Apocalypse movie review from the Salty Nerds have them gushing over how awesome this mash-up between Bad Taste, Mad Max, and The Walking Dead is!  

From the twisted mind of filmmaker Kiah Roache-Turner comes a post-apocalyptic vision of Australia where a zombie outbreak has decimated the population and evil military agencies are experimenting on zombies and survivors alike.  But a rag-tag group of survivors are learning to control the zombies and use them to survive.  Who will win and who will die?  Who knows!  It's all awesome, though.  

Starring Luke McKenzie, Jay Gallagher, and Bianca Bradey, this is a fantastic follow-up to Wyrmwood Road Of The Dead and has some of the most unique worldbuilding in a zombie film the Salty Nerds have ever seen.  Filled with action, humor, and more than a little bit of grossness, this is the best zombie movie most people don't even know exists!

Things are coming to a head in House of the Dragon as a succession crisis for House Velaryon forces all the game-players to return to King's Landing to argue their case for Driftmark.  The battle lines between the Greens and the Blacks are starkly drawn, and it's up to the severely ill King Viserys to try and quell the conflict before it begins.

And now that the kids are all grown up, the family feud has been passed down to them.  Rhaenyra's kids Jace and Luke are at odds with Alicent's kids Aegon and Aemond, and it seems that no matter what Viserys does, the House of the Dragon is destined to be divided.

RRR Movie Review from the Salty Nerds have them marveling at how a Tollywood action movie can give Hollywood Blockbusters a run for their money, not only in terms of visuals, but in story as well!  

RRR stands for Rise, Roar, Revolt, and tells a fictitious story about two legendary Indian revolutionaries as they strike up a complicated and unlikely friendship while taking on the oppressive British Empire in scenes that need to be seen to be believed.  Full of action, adventure, dance numbers, and heart, RRR is definitely a unique movie.  Directed by S.S. Rajamouli and starring Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan Teja, and Ajay Devgn, this is the most epic movie made in all of 2022.
