In part 1 of this two-part episode, EmLee and Kate sit down with Mallory and Buja to discuss their queer love story! We discuss how they met and how the early stages of their relationship developed. Throughout their story, you learn how they intentionally relate to one another and those around them.

Buja(They/Them): is an educator and passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ liberation. Currently sitting as board chair for PRISM Detroit, they support the creation of affirming spaces like Gender-Sexuality Alliances (GSA’s) in schools.

Mal (She/they): is a nurse practitioner working in Detroit and advocate for LGBTQ+ safety and wellbeing within healthcare systems. She is a member of GLMA:Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ+ equity.

On Part 2 of our interview with Bleue Deveaux and Joona Bae, we continue our conversation about burlesque. Bleue and Joona share how they connected through burlesque and talk about the importance of queer relationships in all their forms.

Joona Bae is a nationally traveling performer from Chicago, IL who adds a much-needed spoonful of gochujang to the burlesque world by sharing their sensuous, seductive, and one-of-a-kind art. Since debuting in 2023, Joona has participated in eight different burlesque festivals, including Minneapolis, Show Me, and Ohio Burlesque Festivals, and performed in thirteen different states!

In Part 2 of our episode with HiJiN(X) where we will discuss their activism and the way that colonialism has impacted their life.

HiJiN(X) (they/them) is an anti-binary Corean immigrant cultural worker driven by their disconnection and connection with the diaspora created by US imperialism and colonization. Born in Corea, they currently reside in Waawiyatanong (also known as Turtle Island or Detroit). They are a trauma informed visual problem solver and agitator who is driven by trans rage, and their hope to build community together and through beautiful queer liberatory connections.
