Stretching Your Capacity for “No:” The Cost of Rejection17 Oct 202500:25:34

This is part one of the Emotions Are Expensive: the emotional cost of doing business and how to stop paying it Series.

In Emotions Are Expensive, we’ll be digging into the five biggest feels that keep founders spinning out, riding emotional highs and lows around launch goals and marketing metrics, dancing in and out of our least favorite place: burnout, apathetic, I-think-I-might-hate-my-business land.

I’ll send an essay and some resources on each big feel on Tuesdays, and drop a complementary podcast on my freshly re-launched podcast, The Resonance Effect, on Fridays. Emails will be more theory, podcasts more practice on how to work with and digest each emotion.

Click here to read the essay on rejection and get on my list.

EPISODE OVERVIEW

If rejection still rattles your confidence, this one’s for you. In the first episode of the Emotions Are Expensive series, Chelsea guides you through a nervous-system training that helps you expand your capacity to feel rejection without collapsing, people-pleasing, or spiraling into burnout. You’ll learn how to “stretch” your emotional tolerance for “no,” reframe what rejection means inside your business, and practice selling, pitching, and showing up with more steadiness and safety in your body.

IN THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN...

  • Why rejection registers as a real threat to your nervous system

  • How to use nervous system “stretching” to build emotional resilience

  • A guided practice to release the physical stress of rejection

  • How to stop paying the emotional cost of no’s, unsubscribes, and missed goals

  • A weeklong experiment to safely invite small rejections and increase tolerance

  • How rejection tolerance translates into stronger, steadier sales energy

KEY TAKEAWAYS AND CONCEPTS

  • Emotional Capacity: your nervous system’s threshold for discomfort determines how consistently you can sell and stay visible

  • Stretching vs. Forcing: resilience is built through gentle exposure and regulation, not white-knuckling or avoiding discomfort

  • Rejection Practice: a guided somatic process to feel “I’m safe even when rejected”

  • The Experiment: invite one low-stakes no each day for seven days to build tolerance and normalize rejection

Launch Less, Sell More: Trust-Safe Urgency in a Skeptical Market17 Oct 202500:38:24

EPISODE SUMMARY

If your sales only spike during launches, this one’s for you. Chelsea breaks down her Sales Spices framework — two simple, trust-safe levers that make people move today, not someday: Why Now (natural urgency) and Why You / Why This Offer (natural differentiation). You’ll learn how to weave both into everyday content, DMs, and sales conversations so you can sell on evergreen… without discounts, fake scarcity, or make-or-break launch cycles.

IN THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN...

  • What “natural urgency” really is and why it builds trust (not pressure)

  • How to find timely, specific Why Now angles using Emotional Scheduling

  • How to articulate Why You / Why This Offer with your frameworks, beliefs, results, and delivery

  • Where sales stall when you separate timing and differentiation… and how to blend them

  • Practical ways to use Sales Spices across emails, stories, DMs, and calls

  • Common mistakes: launch dependence, stale angles, and overstuffing every post

KEY TAKEAWAYS AND CONCEPTS

  • Sales Spices: Why Now (natural urgency) + Why You / Why This Offer (natural differentiation)

  • Emotional Scheduling: map temporal landmarks and seasons to your buyer’s lived experience

  • PRISM Positioning Map: pull the clearest reasons your offer is the obvious choice

Try-it-today prompts...

  1. Why Now — ask and answer:

    • What’s happening in my buyer’s life right now that makes this the perfect time?

    • What do they risk by waiting (time, energy, revenue, confidence, opportunities)?

    • Which temporal landmarks matter here (end of quarter, back-to-school, New Year, fiscal dates, seasonal shifts)?

  2. Why You / Why This Offer — list:

    • Beliefs, philosophies, or methods you hold that others don’t

    • Frameworks and processes only you deliver (name them)

    • Results clients get here that they didn’t get elsewhere

    • Features that change the experience or speed (format, cadence, turnaround, access)

How to use this in your content this week...

  • Write one email that’s 80% Why Now with a specific temporal lens

  • Post a carousel that stacks three Why You / Why This Offer proof points (framework, result, belief).

  • In DMs or discovery calls, literally ask: “What’s making this feel urgent for you right now?” then mirror back their answer.

  • Blend both in a short story or Thread: name the season or moment (Why Now) and add one differentiator (Why You).

Ep. 13: What Is A Chakra + Speaking to YOUR People03 Mar 201900:40:59

>> Join me for the Energetics of Worth free livestream extravaganza <<

Hi gorgeous! Happy March - I’m so excited for everything this month has in store.

In case you haven’t seen, it’s my birth month, and I’m actually getting ready to share the most incredible healing program I’ve ever shared.

And in preparation for that, I was at a workshop last weekend with a bunch of people from outside of this spiritual coaching, healing and personal development world. As I was sharing with people the work I do and the program I’m about to share with the world, one of the women in the workshop asked me an incredible question: what’s a chakra?

I’ll be honest guys. It blew my mind a bit.

And in this episode, I’m breaking down two things:

1. As an entrepreneur, are you falling into the trap of only sharing and speaking to people who are already in your world? Who are already where you are? Are you using language that makes you magnetic to your clients, the people you’re here to help? Or are you leaving them confused?

And 2. What is a chakra, why does it matter and how can you use them? If you're interested in this work, you've GOT to join us for the Energetics of Worth free training extravaganza. We'll have three livestreams starting the week of my birthday. Register for the training at www.chelseaquint.com/energeticsofworth, and let me know when you're in. Ep. 12: Healing Your Energy Field, Nervous System Patterns, and the Frequency of Worth24 Feb 201900:42:25
>> Join me for the Energetics of Worth free livestream extravaganza << Welcome back my love! I am... extra excited about this week's episode.  Do I say that every week? Why yes, yes I do. Because I am truly, madly, deeply obsessed with this podcast and supporting with you in this way.  If you've been in my world for a while, I'm sure you've seen and heard me talk about your energy field, your nervous system and how everything that happens in your life is the direct result of what's going on in your energy field.  And... I also recognize that sometimes I (and many of my colleagues and peers in the spiritual coaching + personal development world) get into the habit of using certain words, but we don't always break down WHAT exactly we mean.  In this episode I'm sharing exactly what I'm talking about when I talk about your nervous system, healing patterns in your energy field and using your frequency to manifest.  If you're interested in this work, you've GOT to join us for the Energetics of Worth free training extravaganza. Alignment Tip #2: Name The Thing 20 Feb 201900:17:36
We’re back at it with another alignment tip!  I wanted to share a lesson I was reminded of last week. My hubs and I were heading home, and all of the sudden I felt myself itching to pick a fight with him.  Have you ever had that moment?  Where you’re not totally sure WHY, but you feel yourself about to say something rude, without feeling like it’s totally justified or even makes sense?  And there is a time when I would’ve leaned right into that urge, picked a fight and perpetuated my funky energy.  Listen to hear what I did instead! ---------------------------- Please subscribe, rate and review the podcast, and share it with anyone who would appreciate what we're doing.  Always share your insights and tag me when you're listening!  PS when we get to 100 ratings + reviews, I'll be giving away 3 abundance activation sessions! Ep. 11: Amplify Your Life + Biz with Human Design16 Feb 201900:39:34
Meet one of my favorite secrets for success: Human Design.  I didn't come by a love for all things woo naturally - and to this day, I bring a whole lot of skepticism and a love for science to my spiritual growth and practice.  Part of what makes me a pro at balancing all the things - I bring equal masculine action + practicality to my feminine creativity + flow, and equal science and questioning to my love of the spiritual depths.  Because when you're a survivor, the reality is you've had to BUILD your own solid foundation. You didn't get a ton of it from childhood or your family, and now you've had to rely on yourself to take care of things, feel safe and create security in you life, love and work.  Here's where Human Design comes in... this is a POWERFUL system for understanding who you are really and why you are here. I think of Human Design as your cosmic blueprint - a map to understanding the karma (spiritual lessons + tasks) and dharma (purpose, your work in the world) you came into this world to live out.  It's also a full permission slip for you to be WHO YOU ARE - and unapologetically own it!  I use HD as one of the foundational pieces of my Soul Aligned Abundance 1:1 mentorship, using this as the map to unlock your potential AND identify places where there's karmic healing and funky programming to be cleared. So good!  This episode is just going to scratch the surface of Human Design and all its many nuances - I could literally create an entire podcast just about Human Design. But for the sake of helping you understand how to leverage your design for growth in your life's purpose, your business, your work in the world, I kept things streamlined and stuck to the basics. A few things you'll want to do before you listen: Run your Human Design chart! You can do so for free here: https://www.mybodygraph.com Grab a notebook and a pen - you'll probably want to take notes for this one!   Want to go deeper and truly understand how to use your design as your secret success weapon in life + biz? ALIGNMENT TIP #113 Feb 201900:19:38

Hello hello dear human!

I am beyond excited to be sharing a NEW segment for the podcast - your weekly alignment tips.

Now this first alignment tip episode is a bit longer, just because I went into all the juicy details about what these episodes are and what you can expect.

But I recognize that it's easy to convince yourself that you don't have time to sit down and meditate for 20 minutes, but it's harder to convince yourself that you really don't have 5 minutes.

So just like that, I want to support YOU with this podcast, and recognize that you don't always have 30-45 minute to listen to a podcast.

And thus, Alignment tips were born.

These will be short (less than 10 minutes) episodes sharing a quick, simple practice, tool or tip for you to drop back into alignment with your highest self.

You can still expect weekly deep dive episodes every Sunday, and your longer guided practice every month.

I'm obsessed with you, this podcast and all the amazing feedback I'm getting... so I figure why not go bigger.

PS did you know I have a TON of free resources for you on my website? Head to www.chelseaquint.com and click the FREE RESOURCES tab to get in on this magic.

Ep. 10: Letting the Love In Guided Practice10 Feb 201900:38:02

When I was feeling into what you guys needed this month, I felt that we needed to talk about love.

Whatever your romantic relationship status, February seems to be a time that romantic love comes into the forefront of everyone's mind. And whatever your opinion of Valentine's Day, it can be a beautiful time to take a look at your relationships, how you give and receive love and just how much love feels comfortable for you to receive.

Here's the thing: love is a frequency, just like anything else.

And the amount of love you receive and feel in your life is directly connected to the amount of love your nervous system can hold.

It's like the first time you do a challenging yoga pose. It feels weird, uncomfortable, maybe even triggering. Your thoughts start to spin and you want to get out of it. 5 breaths can feel like 5 minutes.

Same deal with any frequency that your energy field isn't used to. The first time you feel it, it's difficult. Feels like a stretch.

But the more your practice, stay present with the discomfort and give it time to move, the more you'll rewire your nervous system to be able to hold that vibration.

And then, you become a magnet for more love - in all forms. You can feel love in your life in a moment, and have the power to create it at any time.

That's exactly what this guided practice is designed to help you do. Think of it like a stretch for your energy field - one that makes more space for you to receive love into your life.

Take time with this practice, and let me know how it goes for you.

If you're new to the podcast, this episode is one of your guided practices - meditations, energy clearing, soul healing practices and more. I share one of these practices every month, and I hope that you'll use them to expand your healing and spiritual toolkits, to connect to yourself and shine like the bright, incredible, passionate human you are.

Ep. 9: Love, Worthiness + Money03 Feb 201900:32:16

This week’s episode is all about love and money - two sides of the worthiness coin.

Talking all about the energy of love and money, how your self worth determines how much of each you can receive, masculine worth and feminine worth and more. Love and money are simply energies - energies that we view as valuable.

The way I see it, any time you’re desiring something valuable, there’s an instant self judgement about your own worthiness and value in comparison to the thing you want.

So often with love and money - two energies we collectively view as very valuable - we can quickly slip into a tailspin of oh I’m not worthy enough to date that person, to have a loving partner, to charge that much or ask for this raise. You decide from old patterns that you’re not worthy, and immediately cut off your ability to receive the energy and support you desire and deserve.

Thank you so much for listening!

If you want to supercharge your self worth around money, learn from the money manifesting queen herself, my friend + mentor Amanda Frances. Get details on her Money Mentality Makeover.

Everyone who registers through me will get extra support, bonus tapping resources to clear fear and shame and stop being a match for debt, tapping to increase your money magnetism and a chakra wealth activation protocol.

Ep. 8: Sex, Money, Magic27 Jan 201900:37:37

It's a funny thing, but in spite of how much time + energy I've invested in healing my own relationship to sexuality, it's not something I talk about much in my work.

That is, until today.

In this episode, we're diving into how your creative, cocreative and sexual energies all come from the same place, why so many of us are cut off from that creative energy, how energetically making love to your money, business, desires and dreams can massively speed up your manifestations and more.

So much sacral chakra love. I cannot wait to hear what you think!

As a sexual trauma survivor, it's massively important to me to be responsible anytime I'm talking about sex and going into territory that may be triggering for other survivors.

As always, please be your own advocate here. If it doesn't feel right to listen to this episode, honor that. If it doesn't feel good or okay or even possible to consider reclaiming or healing your sexual energy + power, that is okay. It's taken me years of therapy, spiritual practice and focused healing work to get to this place.

I trust your journey completely, and fully honor your process. Taking care of you is the most important thing.

Ep 7: Connecting to Yourself to Activate Your Intuition20 Jan 201900:32:53

Intuition is such a buzz word - but what does it actually mean, and how do you drop into and use your intuition?

In my book, your intuition is your connection to the infinite wisdom, guidance and support that's available to all of us. It's like Phone a Friend on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire... and the friend always knows the answer.

But we live in an externally focused, busy, hustling world. A world that doesn't teach us to value quiet, stillness, taking time to connect to ourselves. Unless of course we share it on Instagram with #selfcare.

But your intuition is one of the most valuable resources you have to help you shift out of survival mode and start consciously, intentionally creating and living a life you're madly in love with.

This week's episode is all about how you can deepen your connection to yourself and what to do with that connection.

It feels especially potent at this time of year - when so many of us shift into external overdrive. Trying to set intentions and resolutions and goals to do more, be more, achieve more.

My question to you: what if everything you need, want, desire is already within you? What if it's already done?

Hint: it is.

Loving you.

Ep. 6: Aligned Action + Activating Your Highest Self Guided Practice13 Jan 201900:59:43

In this week's episode, we're talking about the third step in your manifesting practice - aligned action - and I'm sharing a guided practice for you to start taking aligned action toward your desires every single day.

Here's the deal: manifesting your desires isn't JUST a game of meditating, journaling, making a vision board and sitting around waiting for it to show up.

You need CLARITY, HEALING, and ACTION to take your desires from thought to form.

This episode will share what the hell aligned action actually means, how to start taking aligned, inspired action regularly, and in the last half I'm sharing a guided practice to help you activate your highest self and tap into the limitless source on inspiration you always have access too.

You know when people say 'act as if' or 'feel the feelings of it already being yours'? This practice will help you start to understand what that means, and amplify your manifestation practice.

Which gets to feel really, really good.

Loving you, dear one.

Ep. 5: The Dark Side of Finding Your Purpose09 Jan 201900:25:04

When I originally planned this episode, I wanted to talk to you about how to find your purpose and start living it, infusing it into your work, your relationships and your every day life.

These big questions of who am I really, why am I here, what do I want? What will my legacy be?

But as I was feeling into this episode, I realized that there may be something we need more in this moment - thought of course we’ll come back to all of the above, because it’s juicy and something I get asked about all the time.

But right now, I’m the early days of 2019, it feels like everyone around us is in do do do mode.

Do more, create more, expand more, change more. All of that doing can be great... but it’s such a slippery slope. When does the doing, striving toward purpose and fulfillment slip into us creating more “evidence” about how we’re not enough.

More shame that we’re not there yet.

So today, I wanted to talk about some of the underneath stuff of finding and living your purpose. How to look at the shame of not reaching your goals (yet), deciding what to share and what not to, and what it means when you fail. I can’t wait to hear what you think.

It’s the beginning of a new year, and so many people have set goals, intentions and desires around their physical body.  People are joining gyms and getting back on their yoga mat, cooking more and eating our less. Which is all great... except when it’s fostering a negative relationship with your body.  In this episode, we’re talking about how being present with and accepting what is currently true with your body and how you feel about it, as well as how to start eating and moving your body from an intuitive, loving place. If you’re called to go deeper, check out my digital course that teaches you how to eat, move, and act like you love yourself. Ep. 17 How to Use AI To Make Business Easier (and whether or not you should)16 Apr 202300:48:24

Let’s face it: AI has come in HOT to the creative and small business worlds. Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no denying that AI platforms are popping up everywhere, with hundreds of gurus and content creators popping up to tell you how to use AI, or promoting specific platforms you HAVE to start using now.

So today I want to help you answer the question of whether you want to use AI tools in your business, and if so help you find the best tools to support you and make a plan on how to use them and integrate AI into your workflow so it makes things easier.

AI’s Potential Downsides

  • Can't tell your stories
  • You can change the tone, but it's not going to sound just like you
  • Some algorithms are designed to look for AI based language, meaning you may be ranked more poorly if you use all AI
  • AI controversies - copyright, stealing from other creatives
  • AI’s information isn’t always correct; in an era of ubiquitous misinformation online, is AI potentially harmful? Even to your brand, your reputation.
  • From a more energetic or metaphysical perspective, does it have the same fingerprint, the same artistic or creative oomph when you didn’t make it from scratch?

Should you use AI?

Some of this is going to come down to personal preference. I’ve spoken with people who LOVE AI tools and are so excited about them, and others who hate the idea of replacing humans, moving away from creative practices or artistry. Or maybe you’re just indifferent. All valid thoughts, and I’m not here to tell you what to think! Just here to present some information, through out some concepts and ultimately you can decide what’s best for you and your business moving forward.

To decide whether or not you should use AI, ask yourself these questions:

  1. How do you feel about using AI platforms? Does it align with your values?
  2. Are there moments you regularly find yourself wishing you had a team, had more time or could remove or delegate a project or task in your business?
  3. Are these tasks, projects or to dos you always procrastinate, avoid or completely neglect all together?
  4. Are there areas of your business where it’s hard for you to stay consistent, or where you feel like you’re always behind and can’t quite **stay on top of everything?

If a) you’re open to using AI tools and it aligns with your values, and b) you’re saying yes to any of the other questions, AI could be incredibly helpful.

How I Know What to Sell (and When to Sell It): Emotional Scheduling17 Oct 202500:38:45

EPISODE SUMMARY

If your content feels solid but sales still rely on referrals or launches, this episode is your fix. Chelsea unpacks Emotional Scheduling, the empathy-driven messaging and positioning framework that helps your message hit right when your audience is ready for it.

You’ll learn how to map emotions to time, align your marketing with your audience’s real-world rhythms, and use timing to create resonance that sells on a random Tuesday. No big-data creepiness, or fake urgency required... just empathy, psychology, and well-timed, hella strategic storytelling.

IN THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN...

  • What Emotional Scheduling is (and what it isn’t)

  • How to use temporal landmarks to predict when your people are most receptive

  • A 3-part process for matching your message to their current emotional and mental state

  • How to choose what to sell when, and position it for maximum resonance

  • How Emotional Scheduling creates natural urgency — sales that feel inevitable, not forced or pressure filled

  • Real examples for Q4 ]

  • Common mistakes — over-planning, using it like a holiday calendar, ignoring your own emotional rhythm

KEY TAKEAWAYS AND CONCEPTS

Emotional Scheduling: Match your message to your audience’s emotional, temporal, and psychological rhythms — across a season, quarter, or week — so your marketing lands when they’re actually ready to move.

The 3-Part Process...

  • Emotional Landscape Check-In — Where is your audience emotionally, mentally, and energetically this month or quarter?
  • Behavior Pattern Spotting — What are they doing, avoiding, or spiraling on? What micro-behaviors reveal readiness?
  • Match the Message to the Moment — Choose the story, offer angle, or reminder that meets them here and makes taking action feel safe.

Natural Urgency: Instead of “buy now” tactics, use emotional timing to show why now makes sense for them — their goals, energy, or season of life.

Prompts From the Episode

→ What are my best-fit people thinking, feeling, craving, or Googling right now?

→ What’s happening in their world (seasonally, culturally, personally) that’s shaping that?

→ Given that, what story, reminder, or tool would make them feel seen and safe taking action today?

→ How does this relate to my offer’s promise — what’s the natural entry point?

Ep. 16: How to Build a PR Marketing Strategy: Earned Media, Podcast Guesting and More10 Apr 202300:48:03

Say it with me: Social media is not the end all be all marketing platform. Social media platforms offer a lot of possible benefits, yes, but you do NOT have to be active on social media or have an account to have a successful business. And in this episode, we're talking about one of the best ways you can market and grow your business without ever touching social media.

--

Want to explore working together? Email me at chelsea@chelseaquint.com, or send me a message on Instagram

--

Enter: earned media. We'll breakdown the difference between earned, paid and owned media, unpack the key benefits of earned media and how to get it, then walk you through the four core steps of building your own earned media marketing strategy.

Want to read those steps? Keep scrolling.

How to Design Your PR Strategy

  1. Set the goals for your business. Ideally, your PR and earned media goals are going to line up with your overall business goals. Because yes, wanting to land a big TV segment or an interview on a big podcast are totally valid goals, but if you aren’t clear and intentional about how those tactics are going to grow your brand’s presence, increase awareness of your message and products, or drive people toward what you sell, your efforts may fall flat. So decide what you want in business, then make sure your strategy lines up. This also requires knowing your offers, audience personas, and those other foundational business basics.
  2. Design Your Strategy. Simply put, your strategy is the plan you’ll follow to achieve your goals. So with a PR strategy, you start with your goal, then decide what actions you’ll take to move closer to that goal. Example: if you want to grow your audience, you’ll need to decide which platform(s) you want to drive people toward, identify the key messages and storylines you want people to understand, and define what platform(s) you’ll be reaching out to (podcasts, TV, blogs, magazines, speaking events, etc.) - making sure those things are aligned with what your ideal customers want. In short: what will you do (big picture) to achieve your goal, thinking about it in terms of accessing earned media.
  3. Define Your Tasks and Tactics. Here we get more specific. Your strategy is the big picture, North Star direction, tasks and tactics are where you start to create your to do list. So if you decide that podcast guesting and securing interviews is a key strategy for growing your audience or promoting a specific product launch, you need to do research on podcasts to pitch and make a list of the contact information and show details to personalize your pitches. You’ll also need to block off time to listen to each show - at least a few episodes - to get a sense of the show and where your brand can fit and be truly valuable and unique. You’ll need to define a few story angles that offer variety but still connect to your key goals, and really refine the message so it’s concise and potent when you’re sending a pitch.
  4. Create Your Timeline. I always have clients start by assessing their current capacity. How much do you have going on in other areas of your business outside of the PR marketing space? How about the rest of your life? How about travel, mental and physical health, kids, family, etc.? So first explore your capacity, then identify how much time and energy you have to commit to your PR strategy. Maybe break that down into how much time you can devote to your tasks each week or month, then start to slot those into your weeks. Cool?
Ep. 15: How to Get a Blue Check... and why you shouldn't (Meta Verified Subscription Pros + Cons)02 Apr 202300:39:10

Ah, the long-coveted blue check of social media.

No denying that having one gives your brand a sense of prestige and legitimacy... but with Meta opening the ability to buy a check, it's time to look at what the check means, how to get one and whether you should buy the Meta subscription to get verified and buy a blue check.

In this episode of the podcast, we're looking at the elusive blue check, a symbol used on social media platforms to indicate that a page, account or handle has been verified. We're exploring the clout economy and the idea that followers, fame and the blue check are all currencies, and sharing insights into the new subscription-based verification process and what it used to take to be verified.

They also discuss the pros and cons of subscribing to get verified, as well as a related poll they posted on their stories. And in a hot take moment, we're looking at thoughts from a former mentor of mine about buying a blue check being “peak capitalism,” and sharing my thoughts.

Ep. 14: How to Run Your Business When Sh*t Hits the Fan19 Mar 202300:44:05
If you were this person in high school...14 Dec 202200:27:10

If you were someone who procrastinated every paper or assignment that you got, because you knew you could get a good enough grade, even if you waited until the night before to do the thing, chances are you’re still doing that inside of your business and it is getting in the way of you making your best work and thriving the way your business is meant to thrive.

Click here to join the Deep Remote retreat.

So what you likely learned in school is that you’re supposed to follow these certain rules, meet these certain guidelines, and as long as you meet those  guidelines, get the good enough grade, you’ll move forward. But in business, a lot of what you’re trying to do is break through a lot of noise and communicate what’s different about you. you’re not trying to fit in or mold yourself to a certain template, you’re trying to stand out.

The  rules are so different than where they were in school. And given how many people are out there making content, making TikToks, making reels on Instagram, emails everything.

And yes, there’s room for all of us, and it’s silly not to acnkowledge there’s competition for attention. You have to compete for other people’s attention, which means that the more prolific and deep and impactful and creative and artistic.your work is the more your business is going to thrive. But as long as you are creating offers or content or doing any of your business tasks in a way that is reactive, you’re doing the equivalent of waiting until the night before to write your paper.

You’re keeping yourself in the shallow end of your gifts, which probably feels safer, might actually be safer, but you are also drastically limiting how successful and creative and important you and your work get to be. So the TLDR is, there’s really incredible work you’re here to do, and by avoiding creating deep work space for yourself, you are staying in the shallow end of your skillsets and your gifts, which means you’re depriving you of success and impact in your depriving us of your art.

Ep. 11: My Attempt to Buy Belonging from the Cool Girls of Online Business12 Apr 202200:20:58

In the early days of my business, I started following anyone I could find who would tell me they had answers to the questions I was struggling with. How to grow an audience, how to create content that got more than crickets, how to get clients, how to make more money, how to take myself and my business seriously.

And quickly, thanks to Instagram's algorithm and retargeted ads, I found a myriad of people whose lives looked amazing, and who promised so many answers and results through their courses, programs and communities. But then something quite sticky happened... not only did this women seem to have the answers I wanted, but they also seemed very, very cool.

At the same time, I was feeling more isolated than ever before. I was working from home, didn't have the same connection to coworkers, and spending a lot less time around other humans. I was lonely, my friends and family didn't really understand or even believe in what I was trying to build, and the need for connection was getting bigger and bigger.

Slowly but surely, I started trying to meet my need for community through the online business world. It was no longer just my hope for financial security and freedom, now it was my hope for community, connection, belonging. And inside of that, my inner adolescent came out, and all her desperation to be cool came right to the forefront of my decision making.

I saw these women whose Instagram's showed that they had it all: luxury, freedom, beauty, popularity. Meaningful work, and people paying attention to them. Confidence in their message. Words and posts and programs that seemed to make a difference - at least according to the glowing testimonials on their sales pages. And they were cool, celebrated, popular. I wanted it, and for the price of an $1,111 course or $444 session, it felt like it was for sale.

So many of us start businesses with one intention, but subconsciously start wanting our businesses to fill other needs. The need for community, creative expression and the validation of being seen as ourselves. It's a lot of pressure to put on our businesses, and slips us sneakily into a web of capitalist problems, where the next solution to our need is only one BUY NOW button away.

This episode touches on my experience of trying to buy my way to belonging, and discovering the ways that my business was never really meant to meet some of my needs.

Ep. 10: Monetizing Vulnerability08 Jul 202100:34:30
Hi friend - I’m back. Back from months of really feeling like I couldn’t. Couldn’t be in the industry I’ve spent years breaking into. Couldn’t post on Instagram. Couldn’t tell the truth about what was going on, but couldn’t lie behind filters or gaslighting myself into believing it was all okay anymore. But here’s the thing about my experience of depression: I don’t know when I’ll be back in the hole. I don’t know what will prompt it, or where I’ll be, or how long it will last. I don’t know how well I’ll be able to function, or if I’ll be able to keep “showing up” online. I don’t know if I’ll manage to convince myself to get out of bed, record the podcast, send the email, do the dishes, make the bed. It’s scary not knowing. It’s scary running a business that depends on me when I live alongside my struggles with anxiety, depression, PTSD. And the only true antidote I’ve found is to be gentle. Gentle with starting again. Like easing into water when you’re not quite sure how cold it will be. First a toe. Then a foot. Two feet. Ankles. Up to the knees. Slow but steady. Because slow may not be as sexy as fast, but it is so much more sustainable.
Ep. 9: The Business of Self Love with Melody Godfred17 May 202101:14:08

Welcome, friends, to the first of an ongoing series I’m making for us all about the many ways to build a business.

Over the years, I’ve had client after client get frustrated, feeling like they have to create business a certain way. Like they have to change who they are, how they work, what they value in order to succeed.

So, I want to interview folks and take a peek underneath the hood of their businesses, to learn how things work, what they did to make it work, and who they are behind the scenes in and out of their business.

We start with a woman I deeply admire, whose business I’ve been following and loving for years. Melody Godfred is the founder of Fred and Far, a self-love movement that builds community, connection and celebration amongst women. Fred and Far is the home of the self love pinky ring - a ring inspired by the idea of the engagement ring as a promise to someone else, but this time flipped into a promise to yourself.

In this episode, Melody talks about…

  • How she built a physical product based business from something she needed herself
  • The good, the bad and the ugly of building a business
  • How to prepare for your success
  • The toxicity of connecting your worth to what you charge in business
  • Pricing your offerings and products
  • And so much more.

If you watch my stories on Instagram, you’ve likely seen my citrine self love pinky ring a time or two.

Melody is also an author, and has written two books of poetry as part of her movement, and as I discovered in this episode she’s also a fiction writer. Grab any (or all) of her books below.

At the end of our conversation, Melody shared a note about choosing between staying safe, comfortable, and going after what it is you really want. I’ve copied those questions below, and invite you to reflect on them and, if you feel so inclined, share what comes through and tag Fred and Far on social media.

MG: “What is my big picture dream? What is that fantasy? What is it that I want for myself more than anything? And then follow that with, and what am I willing to give up today to get there?

Because the thing you have to give up might be very safe. It might be very familiar and comfortable, and you may not know what stands on the other side of letting that thing go, but sometimes sacrificing is necessary and that's what I'm trying to get comfortable with.

It's like, how can I sacrifice the known for a greater unknown?”

Now without further ado, settle in and enjoy the show.

Ep. 5: Ethical Marketing + Cancelling Sales Shame19 Feb 202100:39:00
Join Better Business School: chelseaquint.com/business-school Most of online business learned marketing from online business - so even the programs claiming to do sales with integrity or soulful selling end up teaching tools rooted in manipulative or unethical marketing practices. Dames with sales. For a long time, I let that make me bitter, and I’d sit on social ranting and complaining about it, judging those who used those practices (while often envying their bigger launches while I was struggling to pay my bills). Complaining isn’t cute. So, finally, I’ve committed to creating, using and teaching a better way. Enter: Better Business School. In this episode we’re talking about conscious sales and that ever present question for all heart centered business owners: how do I sell without being salesy? So many people teach on this - the problem is that most of them focus on changing your mindset (ie seeing sales a service, it’s a disservice not to sell and make your services available), not your skill set. This episode teaches a key shift that will upgrade your sales skillset and leave you AND your potential clients feeling great after a sales conversation.
