Harnessing Human-AI Collaboration at Work with Paula Goldman
Wednesday, October 28, 2026 • Duration 32:04
How can leaders get the best from AI without losing the human things that make teams work? In this episode, Kevin talks with Paula Goldman about what it really means to "manage the machine" and why successful AI adoption depends as much on people as it does on technology. They discuss how leaders can think about AI as a powerful collaborator, where human oversight and clear guardrails still matter. Organizations need to be intentional about where AI should (and should not) make decisions. Paula also shares how AI can strengthen team dynamics by surfacing overlooked perspectives, challenging assumptions, and helping teams make better decisions in real time.
Paula's Story: Paula Goldman is the author of Manage the Machine: How to Harness Human-AI Collaboration at Work. She is the first-ever chief ethical and humane use officer at Salesforce, where she is a leading figure in implementing AI responsibly. She was also a member of the US National AI Advisory Committee, established by Congress to advise the president, and was named to Fast Company's AI 20. Goldman lives in San Francisco's East Bay.

Leaders as Students of Human Nature - Thoughts from Kevin
Monday, October 26, 2026 • Duration 05:23
How well do you understand the people you lead?
Leadership is getting results with and through other people. There is no leadership without people. Yet people are often the hardest thing to study, because human nature is all around us.
This episode starts a short series on the leader as a student. I share five ways to become a student of human nature on purpose: be more observant, ask more, talk less, use plausible cause analysis, and self-reflect. I also give you one thing to practice this week.
One of the best ways to understand yourself and others better is to learn about behavioral and communication styles. You can take a free DISC assessment at DISCPersonalityTesting.com.
Have something you think leaders should be a student of? Leave a comment or email info@KevinEikenberry.com. If I do an episode on your idea, I'll recognize you on it and send you a gift.

Improving Your Leadership Intelligence with Caroline Webb
Wednesday, October 21, 2026 • Duration 31:30
How can leaders make smarter decisions, motivate people, and stay effective when things get difficult? Kevin is joined by Caroline Webb to explore three dimensions of leadership intelligence: deliberate wisdom, intrinsic inspiration, and reasoned resilience. She explains why better decisions begin with intentionally widening your perspective while reducing cognitive overload, and how leaders can strengthen motivation by increasing people's sense of competence and connection. Kevin and Caroline also discuss how AI can support better thinking without replacing human judgment, empathy, and accountability that leadership still requires.
Caroline's Story: Caroline Webb is the author of Leadership Intelligence: Science-Backed Strategies for Mastering 21 Everyday Management Challenges and How To Have A Good Day. She is a leadership coach, economist, and speaker known for being one of the world's leading experts in using insights from behavioral science to improve professional life. She is a global bestseller whose book has been published in 18 editions and in over 60 countries. She is also a senior advisor to McKinsey, where she was previously a partner, and has been rated one of Thinkers50's top 50 executive coaches in the world. Caroline's book is a core text for Professor Jonathan Haidt's 'Work, Wisdom & Happiness' course at NYU Stern School of Business, and she has also guest lectured at Harvard, Chicago Booth, Columbia Business School, London School of Economics and London Business School on applications of behavioral science to leadership and workplace effectiveness. Caroline is originally from the UK, and has degrees in economics from Cambridge and Oxford Universities. She is based in New York but travels widely to coach clients and deliver keynote speeches.
You have priorities. But if your team doesn't know what they are, they're not really priorities at all.
You might have put them in a memo, an email, or on a slide. That's not what your people remember. They remember what they see you doing every day: what you ask about, what you praise, what gets on your calendar. And when your priorities are hidden, your good, talented, committed people fill the gap with their own guesses.
In this episode, I walk through a simple process to bring your priorities into the open: write them down (no more than three), have your team do the same, compare and share what you learn, and then make sure your behavior matches what you say matters most.
Setting clear priorities is one skill every new and frontline leader needs. Our Bud to Boss programs help with that and all the other skills they need to be better and more confident. Learn more at https://KevinEikenberry.com/budtoboss

Leading with Wisdom in an Age of Algorithms with Johan Roos
Wednesday, October 14, 2026 • Duration 31:49
How can leaders use AI without allowing it to erode the human skills that make leadership effective? In this episode, Kevin talks with Johan Roos about the choice leaders face between amplification and erosion as AI becomes more integrated into our work. Johan identifies five essential human capabilities (curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration) and explains how leaders can use technology to strengthen rather than weaken them. They discuss the warning signs of cognitive offloading, why leaders need to model thoughtful AI use themselves, and how practical wisdom and human judgment remain essential for deciding what matters, what is right, and what will work in practice.
Johan's Story: From strategic alliances and knowledge management to Human Magic, Johan Roos has written more than a dozen books across three decades on how organizations think, decide, and renew themselves. His latest book is Human Magic: Leading with Wisdom in an Age of Algorithms. Johan co-founded the Imagination Lab Foundation with the third-generation owner of the LEGO Group. He is Senior Advisor to the Global Peter Drucker Forum and Partner for R&D at Interface, and he advises and invests in leaders and institutions building for the next decade. He has taught strategy and leadership at business schools across Europe and the United States, and helped lead four of them. He is Professor and Senior Strategic Advisor at Luxembourg School of Business, and Associate Faculty at Hult Ashridge. His work lives where rigorous research meets the realities of running an institution.

Can AI Do This? You're Asking the Wrong Question - Thoughts from Kevin
Monday, October 12, 2026 • Duration 04:17
"Can AI do this?" It's a question I hear all the time, and I've certainly asked it. The answer is often yes. But the most important question isn't whether it can. It's whether we want it to.
In this episode, I share the four questions I ask myself before handing work to AI, and that I urge you to ask as a leader. I also share an organizational thought: why training people on AI tools isn't enough, and what actually gets results.
However amazing AI is, you own the result. Your name is on what AI produces.
The answer to most of these questions depends on the AI tools you're actually using. Claridus is the first AI leadership platform that learns who you are as a leader to help you make better decisions. Learn more at https://claridus.ai

Making the Most of In-Person Work with Natalia Emanuel & Emma Harrington
Wednesday, October 7, 2026 • Duration 36:18
How can you make work work for your team? Kevin sits down with Natalia Emanuel and Emma Harrington to discuss what research reveals about in-person, remote, and hybrid work and why the best answer is rarely one-size-fits-all. They talk about the "proximity effect" and how face-to-face interaction can strengthen creativity, collaboration, and well-being, while also acknowledging the flexibility and accessibility benefits of remote work. Natalia and Emma explain why simply requiring people to come into an office isn't enough; leaders need to coordinate when teams are together and intentionally use that time for brainstorming, mentorship, and other activities that benefit from human connection. They also share practical ways to improve virtual collaboration, including creating permission to look away from the screen and move

How to Unify a Divided Team - Thoughts from Kevin
Monday, October 5, 2026 • Duration 04:24
A unified team sounds like a dream. But unity might not be what you think.
It isn't compliance, and it isn't everyone getting along all the time. Unity is a choice people make, one person at a time, one day at a time, based on what they see and feel from you and others on the team. You can't require it, but you can absolutely influence it.
In this episode, I share four ways to build unity on your team: point people toward a shared purpose, invest in relationships, set clear agreements and expectations, and check team health regularly.

What does it take to stay optimistic when life is difficult, uncertain, or simply not going according to plan? Kevin sits down with Michelle Gielan to explore the science of resilient optimism. Michelle explains how resilient optimism combines a realistic view of challenges with the belief that our actions can make a difference. Michelle also shares practical strategies for triaging commitments based on impact rather than urgency, creating opportunities to truly recharge, and developing a simple "best moments" practice that trains the brain to notice progress and possibility.

The Leader's Role in Navigating Negativity - Thoughts from Kevin
Monday, September 28, 2026 • Duration 04:17
Should leaders be the morale police? Persistent negativity is a problem for teams, and leaders do need to navigate it. But I don't think policing it is the answer.
In this episode I share five reasons why, and what to do instead. It comes down to modeling the morale you want, paying attention to context, acting before negativity becomes persistent, and focusing on behaviors rather than labels.
